Dear All
Can anyone please tell me what Other location we can put the kernal file while upgrading the kernal apart from usr\sap\sys\exe??

Please give more information if you want people to help you out.
Which SAP Product, which Release version and so on.
If you are working with a recent SAP Product version I would advise you to patch the kernel using JSPM (in case of dual stack SAP system of Java based SAP system). JSPM can perform the neccesary steps for you.
If you are working on an ABAP only SAP system you only need to update the kernel files in the kernel directory itself.

Hi,
Whatever the other two friends have explained is correct. We do kernal upgrade only on CI when the Operating systems of the CI and the Application Instances are same.
if the CI and AI are in different operating systems then we may have to upgrade kernel in both CI and AI.
Sapcpe.exe would synchronize the kernel only when the SAP systems have homogenous OS.

Clarification regarding kernal upgrade

Hi Experts,
In our production system (OS:AIX) we have database and central instance in host A and the dialog instance on host B.
As per my understanding I need to extract the kernal patch in
hostA : DVEVMGS00/exe and SYS/exe/run
hostB : D01/exe.
I have never done a kernal upgrade in this type of schenario. Kindly confirm if this process is right or anything else I need to do.

Plzz don't do like that HOST -A & HOST- B.
your central instance is there in HOST-A. Then do like this.
1. Go to market place download the latest kernal.
2. Stop your Sap Application Central (HOST-A) & Dailog (HOST-B) aslo.
3. Take the backup of u r kernal dir that is RUN dir in HOST-A
    backup means copy of run dir..
4. Then uncar the downloaded files in HOST-A.
5. Copy the all uncared files in RUN directory in HOST-A no need to copy HOST-B.
6. Than start u r central instance (HOST-A).
7. After complted successfully server up, then start u r Dailog instance (HOST-B).
8. Automatic kernal will be exfected. No need to copy kernal in Dailog.
Plzz do this i was already did my company. It working successfully.

Kernal upgrade error

Hi,
In ecc6 i am trying to do kernal upgrade. befor upgrade it was 52 now wants to do 278. following error showing while extracting this file SAPEXE_278-20000972.SAR
SAPCAR: could not open for writing dsrlib.dll (error 28). The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Pls help me in this.

Hello,
To upgrade the kernel the follow the steps as details below:
u2022 Stop the SAP application, including the database
u2022 Login as user sidadm
u2022 Make a copy of the files in /sapmnt/SID/exe
u2022 Copy the new kernel archive file in the directory /sapmnt/sid/DVEBMGS00exe
u2022 Uncar the new kernel in the directory /sapmnt/SID/exe as follows:
o cd /sapmnt/SID/exe
o SAPCAR u2013xvf

Kernal upgradation issue

I tried to kernal upgrade in one of server for consistency kernal form pacakge level 75 to package level 95.But it is not going to upgraded it is in same package level.
i tried with below steps please let me if iam doing some thing wrong.
www.service.sap.comdownloadssupport package and patches entry by application groupadditinal componentsapkenal-sapkenal 7.00
After that i downloaded the all the components in download manager and i uncar it then i stop sap sytem,database,services and i copied the executables to kernal directory.
after that when i login and check the package level it is showing 75 only.

Hi,
If its a cluster or single instance, the procedure is the same.
As a thumb rule always execute the program RSPARAM from se38 and find the directory structure of the parameter DIR_CT_RUN.
The default value is generally /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run
Download the SAPEXE<NO>.SAR and SAPEXEDB<no>.SAR and extract i in the above directory.
Before you do it make sure thats:
Stop the SAP R/3 resource in the cluster. Leave the SAP disk online.
Replace the Kernel
Start the instance
Replicate executables in the c:windowssapcluster or c:winntsapcluster (on both nodes)
You are done

Planning upgrade LCA build 41.12 to 41.17 + kernal upgrade

Can we do the Service pack and kernel upgrade without a manual of- and re-load of data? All notes states that an initialize is not needed a simple restart is sufficient.
My idea is:
1)       backup live cash
2)       Stop LCA
3)       Install service packs and kernel upgrade
4)       Restart LCA
5)       Reload data from backup

On SCM 4.1 system & you are planning to run the upgrade to LCA build 17 PL 002/liveCache version 7.5.00.44 using the SAP Note 1070304 .
=> please proceed as described in SAP Note 713381 ("Importing liveCache version...") to import SCM 4.1 LCA Build 17 patch level 002 and the corresponding liveCache Kernel 7.5.0 Build 044.

1. we are trying to apply kernel from 640 to 700.i have followed below path to download the kernel.
support and patch up gradation>SAP net weaver>netweaver04s>entry by component>kernel 7.00 32 bit Unicode.
is this correct path?????????
2. in this what files shall i download (there are lot of files).
please give me clear idea.i am little confuse

Unicode.
SQ L database.

Steps to upgarde kernal:
Best practice to go ahead is:
Step 1: Create a new folder /sapmnt/<SID>/newkernel
Step 2: Copy all contents of /sapmnt/<SID>/exe to /sapmnt/<SID>/newkernel
Step 3: Download the database independent & database dependent files.
Step 4: Uncar these files in /sapmnt/<SID>/newkernel (This will overwrite old kernel files from newkernel, thus upgrading the kernel)
Step 5: Shutdown SAP & Database (Make sure all process are stopped e.g. saposcol, Database listener, etc)
Step 6: Rename /sapmnt/<SID>/exe to /sapmnt/<SID>/oldkernel
Step 7: Rename /sapmnt/<SID>/newkernel to /sapmnt/<SID>/exe
Step 8: Start Database & SAP system (Make sure you upgrade the kernel files on Application server as well)
Incase, you require to revert back to old kernel, just Bring down SAP & database copy back the exe folder to newkernel & oldkernel folder to exe)

Workflow not Trigerring after kernal upgrade

Hi Experts,
Recently basis team has upgraded the Kernal in SRM environment.I was going through whether entire process in SRM is working fine or not.
I found that workflow is not working properly.Once i create a SC in SRM,system shows the status as Awaiting approval but if i check the same in BBP_PD there is no workitem found.
i have cross verified the workflow settings they are looking fine.I found a queue in SM58 with the staus "Screen out with out connection to error." and the Fm it is showing against the item is BP_PDH_WFL_DB_UPDATE_BACK and target system is %%ashost=ctnhsapdsr,sysnr=00
Do i need to delete this Queue or else how to proceed?Kindly guide me in this

DHT is no longer working since Kernal upgrade

I'm running through a router using a direct conection I use the Blue frog, and Deluge, the router is set up for port forwarding with ports for both applications and has worked flawlessly for the last 2 years. since the last kernel upgrade the ports are closed I assume its to do with Arch config. as the router works ok with other distros

Is this a usb drive?
It will probably never recognise that drive ever again.. Mountain Lion has this little bug where it cannot recognise some USB drives.. I don't understand it.. but it just happened to me and a quick google shows it is not uncommon.
Your backups are not lost.. they are just not accessible.. you need to plug the drive into a computer with a better.. older OS. Find a new USB drive that Mountain Lion can actually read.. and even write to.. and copy the files across.

but which command i executed after this.

Kernal upgrade problem

i have downloaded the latest version of kernal from service.sap.com for solution manager 7.0 EHP1 ,
when i extract them it shows 3 dir named cfw,jkit & servicebut in the location where i have to replace with other files at
f:\usr\sap\sma\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64 it shows 4 dir mssjdbc is extra when i am replacing them sap is not starting , when i copy the old kernal again to its place it works fine tell me what to do .

Use the command: stopsap name=<SID> nr=<SYSNR> SAPDIAHOST=<host> Then look at the stopsap log file to see if there are any messages.
As for your MMC won't close, look at the event log.
Worst case, go into your DB, shut it down with SAP up, set all your services to disabled and do a hard restart of your box. Then once it's up, enable each service one by one and trouble shoot why the MMC is hanging.

SMQ2 Time limit exceeded

Hi Experts,
IDOC to IDOC Scenarion--There are some entries in SMQ2 are showing "time limit exceeded". i tried to unlok the Queue every time i get the error and after that queue is going into Running status for some time and again it is giving the same error and status is "SYSFAIL". Queue registration is also done.we are facing this problem in production.
All other interfaces messages are processing fine except for one interface. some IDocs are processed even for the same interface. I assumed that the size of the message is large. so it is not processing, mapping step is not executed.
see the example below for one message which is not processed from XI

The size of the messages also not huge, we have tested it testing system and it is taking less than one minute to process the message. And we have checked at the Gate way & JCO connections are working fine. The problem is still there as i explained in my first post.
Every time it is giving time limit exceeded after unlocking the Queue.
Is there any other suggestions to resolve this issue.

Cannot identify '/dev/video0': 2, No such file or directory

hi! i have a cheap webcam that used to work perfectly on arch, but some update broke it because /dev/video no longer exists (i don't know which upgrade, it has been some months since i used it last time)
when i try to run my webcam applications, it goes like that:

That would have been the last kernal upgrade, wiped out my USB mouse which caused XWindows to crash, They had to change back to the UDEV system. I believe the maintainer for the devFS system quit but anyways it was taken out of the kernal.
What I had to do was to change the configuration from /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mouse0, i beileve you can also do ln -s /dev/input/mouse0 /dev/mouse. Try looking in /dev/input/ for your camera.
