Kernel 2.6.13 archck

i get a kernel panic when i use this kernel. it says something about the filesystem. i have tryed redoing the partitions but i still get a kernel panic with it. The 2.6.12 archck kernel worked great for me. i want my ati drivers back

giorgosc61 wrote:
Hi,
I did pacman -Syu and it upgraded to
kernel26archck 2.6.13.archck5-1 from community and after reboot
glxinfo shows no 3d acceleration.
I rebooted and checked and it does not load fglrx module in startup anymore.
I tried to compile the drivers to the new kernel and it gives me errors.
Is the new kernel compatible with ati-drivers pacakge in community. If not could you please fix this. I switched back to archck1 and 3d acceleration is back.
Thank you in advance.
I have not yet rebuilt them against the new archck kernel - the reason being the stock kernel will have the necessary support for the drivers from now and I am waiting for that to move to [current] then i will build the drivers against the stock kernel

  • Wich kernel suits for small file server / gateway+Python?

In short: are kernel-beyond or emission special features (latence, stability, ...) worth for a LAN file server? for a gateway + Python (Zope/Plone) PC? and for a gateway that do router/firewall/proxy behind a Linksys router/FW?
    Details:
We've got a PIV 1,7GHz with 512 to 1024 Mb sdram as a file server for <10 PCs (rsync, (duplicity), Samba, tar, gunzip, vsftpd).
Compiled kernel26-emission wain's PKGBUILD without X ; it takes just 7 Mb RAM after boot with sshd & vsftpd started
2nd PC is a Pentium II 350MHz with 192 Mb sdram on 2 smal SCSI HDDs
It serves as a router/firewall/DHCP & DNS server with ADSL connection, & hosts a Python (Zope/Plone) server that likes RAM & CPU.
Now runs Arch Linux with a custom kernel-2.6.15-archck kernel.

Let me correct myself, the key that is needed is called "aliasIP> One message on the net seems to imply that one could use something like :
    <key>aliasIP</key>
    <string>wan.ip.number.178</string>
for a dynamic IP address. Can anyone confirm this?

  • No sound after upgrade

I have upgraded to kernel 2.6.13 archck but can't get alsa to work. I have tried alsaconf but still not working. When i boot the pc i get an error about not being able to load snd-usb-audio.
    What else can i do.?

Do you have more than one sound device? Maybe the new ALSA started supporting something in your system that wasn't supported before, so it's trying to play sound out of the wrong device now.
Did you check your mixer volumes? When I upgraded, all my mixer settings were wiped out and defaulted back to mute.
If your speakers are connected to something fancy like a motherboard built-in coaxial SPDIF port, does sound output on that port need to be re-enabled? I had to use a text editor to hack /etc/asound.state in order to make the nForce4 output sound on that port.

  • Orinoco_usb after suspend

    Hello,
I'm using kernel  2.6.15-archck and orinoco_usb driver for my compaq evo N610c laptop. It's working properly but after a suspend the card is not detected anymore. Thanks for your help
    Tom

In the hibernate.conf, i've got these lines:
    UnloadAllModules yes
    UnloadBlacklistedModules yes
    LoadModules auto
Maybe the pb is due to the firmware that is loaded by hotplug. I don't know. And hotplug has been removed and it seems that the firmware is loaded by udev.
It was working with the 2.6.14ck kernel.
    Thanks for your help

  • ATI drivers - version

    Hi!
With Cerebral help I installed ATI drivers 8.22.5-1 and works very good. Now on the server is version 8.22.5-3. I put ati-drivers in the pacman.conf IgnorePkg. Is it safe tu update drivers?
    Thanks,
    Mitja

    extra/ati-drivers-archck 8.22.5-2
ATI precompiled drivers for r350, r300, r250 and r200 chipsets. Drivers for
    the ArchCK Linux kernel.
Which kernel do you have?  If you have stock kernel, then run
    pacman -S ati-drivers-arch
and if you have archck kernel, run
    pacman -S ati-drivers-archck
If you use both kernels, install both.

  • Suspend2 and the new archck kernel (2.6.15) with initrd

    Hi everybody,
Afret upgrade from archck 2.6.13 to 2.6.15 my system does not resume any longer. I think that I should follow the instruction at the http://suspend2.epfl.ch/HOWTO-2.html which says:
    Initrd/Initramfs's with Suspend2
Using an initrd with Suspend2 is possible. To use this, you MUST edit your linuxrc (or init) script to contain the line
    echo > /proc/suspend2/do_resume
BEFORE the script mounts your filesystem. If the line is missing, your system will not resume. If the line comes after mounting file systems, you will most likely suffer from filesystem corruption. You have been warned.
You can now recompile your kernel with Suspend2...
What file should I edit, I did not find any linuxrc file?
    Thanks in advance,
    mdv

  • Kernel with archck and win4lin patches?

I've tried to patch the kernel with archck and win4lin myself, but compilation fails :-( Without the win4lin patch compilation is successfull... but I need win4lin for some windows app.

phrakture wrote:Yeah, it's the correct place, the problem is that you didn't ask anything
I thought the subject of the posting was clear that I was looking for someone who is willing to build this kernel (or has a PKGBUILD for this kernel).
If I was looking for someone to help me build this kernel, I would have post in "Kernel & Hardware Issues" and I would've put the error message and .config file in my posting... But I was just asking someone to build this kernel for me... hoping someone is willing to do this for me or maybe if the guy who made archck read my posting, he will include win4lin in future versions. Yeah, I know, that's lazy, but this is the place for this kind of favours.
Maybe the body of my posting created the confusion, next time I'll be more clear, I should say something like: "I'm looking for 2.6.13+archck6.2+win4lin... anyone?" instead of: "I've tried to patch and compile but it fails..."
phrakture wrote:For instance, if you post the exact error message you get, along with what patches you used and how you changed the configuration, if anything, someone here will probably be able to track the error down in very short time.  However, saying "it doesn't work" doesn't help us much 8)
So, instead of saying "it doesn't work", I should have said "I want it, can you make it for me or give it to me?"
Anyway, now that this thread has evolved this way, I'll post the .config and error message when I have access to my own computer (that's after the weekend).

i tried the one in the repositories, as well as compiling it with ABS (and optimizing for K7 and turning SMP off).

  • Archck 2.6.15 lack of ipw2200, beyond kernel and other issue

    Hi!
I've installed archck 2.6.15 and ipw2200 and of course my wireless connections doesn't work. I see the gap because I suppose that archck kernels will be discontiuned and in this place beyond kernel will be in use but beyond is still in the /testing I think that is not ok for users, don't you think?
Now I have to switch to standard kernel ....
    Regards

beyond is fine for regular users. It's in testing because I havnt prepared ATI and all the other drivers for it yet.
ArchCK 2.6.15 should have ipw2200, but the latest ipw2200 package doesnt includes a newer firmware version than whats needed for archck 2.6.15.

  • Archck kernel vesafb/vesafb-tng issue

    http://iphitus.loudas.com/archck.php
According to this, the archck patchset uses vesafb-tng.
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gensplash
    According to this page,
#2.  Even if you are running 32bit x86 I DO NOT recommend vesafb-tng over vesafb, it is slow and requires different configs to vesafb, switching framebuffer types between kernels will cause you grief. If you have previously used vesafb keep using it!
What lead to the decision to use vesafb-tng? What makes the two different?
Second question relates to a gensplash. I have kernel26archck 2.6.13.archck1-1, gensplash from community, as well as the initscripts from community for silent boot. When I try to use vesafb-tng to boot with the splash, it just reverts to the default console...but when I use the vesafb config, it works fine...is there something im missing here.
Just to clarify: I am using kernel26archck that to my knowledge uses vesafb-tng.
    grub configs:
This does NOT work. This uses the vesafb-tng format.
    # Arch Linux kernel26archck using vesafb-tng
title Arch Linux with Splash (Verbose) vesafb-tng
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz26archck root=/dev/hda3 ro video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@85 splash=verbose,theme:darch console=tty1
    initrd (hd0,0)/fbsplash-darch-1024
This does work. This uses the vesafb format.
    # Arch Linux kernel26archck using vesafb
title Arch Linux with Splash (Verbose) (Community Kernel)
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz26archck root=/dev/hda3 ro devfs=nomount vga=0x318 splash=verbose,theme:darch console=tty1
    initrd (hd0,0)/fbsplash-darch-1024
Just to clarify one last time: I am using kernel26archck which uses vesafb-tng but when I configure grub to boot with vesafb-tng...it doesn't work in the sense that the framebuffer reverts to the default.  However when I configure grub to boot with the vesafb config...it works fine.
    WHAT THE HELL?!?!
    Edit:
And according to vesa-tng's page: http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/vesafb-tng/  ,what is happening to me...should NOT be happening.
NOTE: After patching the kernel, setting mode via the old vga= way WILL NOT WORK. You'll have to specify the mode you want to set through the video option, for example: video=vesafb:ypan,1024x768-32@85.

It's quite simple - the archck patchset contains the vesa-tng patch but the pkg in [community] does not use the vesa-tng driver the patch enables.  This is because I wrote the gensplash wiki and I don't rate vesa-tng at all
So, yeah, you have confused what is available and what is actually include.  Simple
Glad I read this thread now...

  • Archck - kernel panic

I've installed arch linux, then system upgrade + installation of archck. Reboot, and then kernel panic I've only configurated the system for the old kernel and added new lines in /boot/grub/menu.lst for the new kernel, nothing else.
No idea what to do now. How co configurate it?

FUBAR wrote:Can you still boot the old kernel?
No, becouse of udev. The old kernel is from the 0.7 install cd.
Now I know what I've missed.
    Arch Wiki wrote:
mkinitramfs' configuration options are stored in /etc/mkinitramfs.conf, some of which are listed above.
    To build an initramfs run:
    mkinitramfs kernel=2.6.16-beyond
I should do the same with archck? Am I right? Ok, but how to create it without booting arch? I can use live-cd. Mounting the disc and building initramfs for archck on live-cd will be ok?

  • ArchCK: gensplash issues and logout problems

    Hi,
i can't boot using gensplash anymore,my system is looking for a 640x480.cfg darch theme but it can't find it cause it doesn't exit. How can i tell my system to use the 1280x1024 one as it was used to when it was working?it seems that whatever i change it is not understood.
Second problem and possibly related is that when i logout from gnome X crash and everything stucks on my screen stupid graphical stuff comes out and have to hard reboot everytime, even without gdm running.

    # Add a theme to enable fbsplash, Try 'darch', it's included in the gensplashut$
    FBSPLASH_THEME=darch

  • [x86_64] please help with archck64 kernel

I need a recent kernel to get my onboard NIC working. I´m going to build the archck kernel for x86_64. I want to go with the pkgbuild from the stock arch64 kernel mixing with the existing 32bit archck kernel pkgbuild.
    1. Where can I find all the pkgbuilds for existing x86_64 packages?
    2. It would be nice if someone can point me all needed changes in the kernel config for 64bit. Or I will take the existing config and will look at it doing a diff to the 32bit one. Maybe the gentoo_AMD64 kernel can help me too.
What do you think? Is the archck patchset also the best to go with for arch64 or should we start with the ck-patchset?

Arch64.org is back up ... so you should soon be able to access svn ..
not sure if you can grab them from genesis.net  :?
If you wait for few more days we may see a archck64 kernel
In the menatime feel free to build your own (Have got PKGBUILD here if you need it!)

  • Exactly how does the CK patch improve on stock kernel

I have read that the Ck patchset improves the desktop experience of linux. I have both the Stock and ArchCk installed. I use ArchCk mostly and keep the Stock for backup purposes.
Thing is i don't see any difference betweem the two and i am wondering if the more experienced users can give some specifics.

CK doesnt 'make your computer faster'. It just improves the experience of using it.
You will find, that under any load, the CK based kernels tend to be more responsive. That's because Con's staricase scheduler is designed to do exactly this, whereas the default kernel scheduler is there to be a jack of all trades, desktops, servers, clusters, routers, whatever.
For example, start copying some files between some partitions, or get a kernel compile going. Heck, start firefox. You will find that under a CK kernel, your system will remain much more responsive than under a vanilla system. It is designed for the desktop.
Staircase is golden, but there are other improvements to CK, like swap prefetching. io scheduler settings and various vm (memory/swap) tweaks.
ArchCK adds onto CK, and just adds fancy features like fbsplash, reiser4 and suspend2 as well as a range of bugfixes and other features.
