Kernel_data_inpage_error & non-system disk error but everything running OK for a while

Hi,
can someone please help me out since I have a deadline in coming up and need my laptop to work properly!
I have windows 7 64bit running on a HP ProBook 6550b. My PC runs fine for about an hour, after an hour the screen freezes for 10 seconds and then I get the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. He reboots and then I get the message 'Non-system disk or disk error'
Then I just shut down my PC and start it back up and everything works perfectly fine again for about 45 minutes. Then again the same problem.
I have tried multiple things. I executed a chkdsk /f /r This did find some problems. I tried and followed some instructions about changing the paging file settings. I ran a memtest. No errors with the memtest.
Finally I went in the BIOS and I did a HP harddrive test. This one failed almost immediately but I can just close the BIOS and start my PC and windows runs fine.
What can I do to resolve this problem other then buying a new harddrive. (I intend to buy a new laptop anyways in couple of months after I have passed my deadline and test period has finished. But for short term I really needs this to work.)

Just in case someone else encouters this.
The problem was due to my SSD M4 hard drive. There was a problem with the firmware causing hourly crashes after the disk has been in use for more then +-5200 hours. Upgrading the firmware fixed this for me.

everytime i try to install windows 8 on my macbook air mid 2012 via usb i keep getting that error after bootcamp partition and reboot...
does anyone know how to solve it ? its not my flash drive cuz i've already tested 2, and both have the exact same error.

Non system disk error or disk error when turned on

I have a BIG problem with my laptop, it doesnt load my operating system! :dead:
I have a 100GB hard drive in my laptop and it was working perfectly fine until a blue screen came up and turned my laptop off!! I turned it back on and it came up with a message saying: ''non-system disk or disk error; Replace and strike any key when ready'' Before that, I have the RAM of 256MB . The RAM themselves had a test and showed no problem at all. When I did go into bios, it didnt give me an option where my laptop hard drive could do a self test, when it should have. So i decided to buy a new hard drive which was 160GB seagate. I put it into my laptop and had my Windows XP CD ready to put into my CD drive to install. BUT...........the same message came up ''non-system disk or disk error; Replace and strike any key when ready'' and didnt read my CD. It keeps doing it now and doesn't read anything from the CD SOMEONE PLEASE...............HELP!!!..................!!!! Does anyone know what I am talking about? If so, please help. Thanks

I kind of know but we really need to know what kind of laptop you are working on here. Seems like it is an old one with XP and 256 megs of RAM.

I'm trying to run Windows 7 Pro on a partition on my Macbook pro retina display. I have reached the step where through bootcamp you reboot from the wondows disk. I have the windows disk in an external optical drive and have tried both 32 and 64 bit installation disks and still getting the same error"

When I hit any key nothing happends, have to turn off computer by holding power button.
I have also tried turning the computer on and holding cammad R, and selecting the boot disk manually, same error occurs.
Any suggestions?

Reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until the Boot Selection screen comes up.
Choose to boot into oSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and reset OSX to be the default.
Btw.: there are no OSX Lion discs unless you made one yourself.

Bootcamp, Non-system disk error while installing Win 7. iMac Late 2012

Hello,
I am having an issue while trying install OEM Win 7 Home Prem. 64bit on my new iMac 27 inch late 2012 with bootcamp. I am using all brand new products with an Apple SuperDrive. After downloading the Windows Support files onto a USB and paritioning the hard drive, the system reboots to begin the Windows 7 install; however, a black screen appears and it simply says, 'Non-system disk. Press any key to reboot'. I am not sure what to do here and any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like the Boot camp system that looks for the Windows install system can't see the Apple superdrive. Which doesn't surprise me all that much as Apple has limited the external superdrive to working with only some Mac computers. Yes yours is included when you are booted into OSX but we are talking boot camp and Windows here.
You may need to place the Win install files on a USB thumb drive by making an ISO of the install files and or downloading an ISO file from the "My Digital Life" website for the version of Win 7 you have and then using a program like ISO to USB to place the Win install files on a USB thumb drive. Bad part of all of that is you may need a Windows PC to do that. I am not sure if it can be done on a Mac using Disk Utility and or even if Disk Utility can expand the ISO file whether it can make it bootable.

Ordered new recovery disks from HP after installing brand new hard drive. Getting errors trying to boot/install. Now what?

It sounds like the boot device order is not set correctly. Please try this:
1. Remove the recovery disk (cd) from the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) if you have it loaded. Make sure the only
peripherals (cables) you have connected to the tower are the monitor, mouse, keyboard and main power.
2. Start the computer and immediately strike the F10 key to boot into the BIOS Screen
3. Once in the BIOS screen, strike the F5 key to reload the BIOS default settings.
4. A message will pop up asking if you wish to SAVE & EXIT BIOS?
5. Respond YES and exit.
The computer should attempt to boot up at this point. Go ahead and open the CD/DVD drive tray and insert
the 1 of system recovery disk and close the drive tray. Immediately force power off on the tower by pushing and
holding the power button. Once power goes off, allow appx 10-20 seconds and power the tower back on. If
reloading the default BIOS settings has corrected the system boot device order, the computer should now boot
immediately from the Optical Drive (CD drive) and begin the system recovery.

Late 2012 imac bootcamp error"Non system disk, press any key to reboot"

I'm having all sorts of issues with getting windows 7 installed through bootcamp. I have the late 2012 imac 27 inch fusion i7 16 gigs of ram 680gtx. I downloaded the latest bootcamp drivers to my usb after i re-formated it. Partitioned the drive 200 gig windows 700 gigs mac. It restarts and then i get this error screen, "non-system disk.(see photo below) Press any key to reboot." which of course is unresponsive. I hard reset with the Option held into boot back into mac. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Please, any help would be appreciated. I have a unopened copy of Bioshock Infinite waiting for me

The Macs with a built-in Optical drive use the Windows DVD, because that is what BC tells it to be set to. The USB is not made bootable on such machines.
The exceptions to this rule are (from Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions)
Can I use a downloaded (ISO) version of Windows with Boot Camp?

Hello. I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a new-model Mac Mini ('Late 2012'), which I just bought from Apple. [Specs: 1 TB Fusion drive, 2.6 GHz intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, OS X Mavericks (latest), Graphics: Intel HD graphics 4000, Screen: LG Flatron 24"].
After following instructions on Bootcamp, I tried installing it through my external USB Apple Superdrive (DVD), but for some reason as soon as the system finishes getting things ready and reboots to begin installing Windows 7, I get a black screen with an error message as follows: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". Pressing the keys on my keyboard does nothing (even though it's a wired model, not a wireless one.) I'm forced to do a hard shutdown using the power button and hold down the Option key in order to get the system to show the Mac HD where OS X is. It also shows the Windows DVD as another option, but when I select it and the system boots, I just get the same error message again. So I go back to a hard shutdown and reboot to go into OS X again.
Not sure what to do, I did some online research and in one post in the Frequently Asked Questions for Bootcamp, it says for installing Win 7 and Win 8, the computer won't work with external USB drives (*totally nuts in my opinion - Apple has to fix this stuff if they want to entice Windows users into buying their sleek, quiet hardware). Instead, the post recommends creating a Windows 7 ISO file from my Windows 7 DVD and putting it on a USB thumbdrive that Bootcamp is going to use to put all the Apple/Windows drivers on for the installation process. I'm also told I have to unplug my Superdrive (no explanation given for why). So I do all this and get Bootcamp Assistant running again. Unfortunately, as soon as the system reboots after going through all the usual preparation steps, I get another black screen with a new error message: "Non-system disk Press any key to reboot". So I'm at a loss for what to do next.
(I've also have an iMac that I bought more than a year ago that I also put Windows 7 on, with no problems that time. Go figure.)

"Non-System Disk" Boot Camp Windows 7 on 5K iMac

I've been trying to install Windows 7 as a Boot Camp partition on my 5K iMac for a few days now. It's driving me crazy.
I've tried:
Installing from multiple different USB devices – all USB 2.0, 16gb or 32gb. I've tried 4 different sticks now. I just tried a Sandisk 16gb as someone here pointed out none of theirs worked except their Sandisk drive, but no luck with that either.
Using multiple different ISO's, all x64 – all Windows 7 but different versions (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate). These are all downloaded from the Digital River sources.
I contacted Apple Support and they advised attempting the Boot Camp setup while in Safe Mode. With this method, I was unable to even begin the process as the error message 'Must be Windows 7 or higher' comes up instead. I'm pretty sure this is just because I can't mount drives in Safe Mode.
Here's what happens:
Format the USB drive with 1 partition, set it to Master Boot Record, FAT32.
Run Boot Camp Assistant.
I leave all three options selected: create USB, download Windows software from Apple, and then create the partition.
Select the x64 Windows ISO.
Select the USB drive. Actually, there are no other drives connected, so it just auto-selects.
Hit 'go'. Let it do its thing. It asks for a password twice during the process, and takes about 20 minutes.
I then create a partition. I've been using 96gb, but have tried going up to 128gb to see if that makes any difference. Nope.
iMac reboots when that's done. It sits there for a little while with the backlight on and a black screen, then shows "Non-system disk. Press any key to restart.".
I hit my head on the desk a few times.
I try restarting the iMac and bringing up the boot manager to see what disks are available. There's only one: Macintosh HD. No recovery HD, and no 'Windows' drive I've seen on some other posts.
I restart the iMac and let it try booting normally again. This time, and all subsequent attempts, I get a "No bootable disk" error.
At this point I find some sorta-relevant post that recommends trying something else, so I remove the partition and try that – a different USB, a different ISO (of the same thing). I do not have a disk drive of any kind and cannot use Windows that way.
I've updated to the latest version of Yosemite, but that changed nothing. I've also tried inserting the bootable USB in my rMBP 13", but that doesn't show it as a boot disk either.
Not sure if maybe I'm missing a step? I've been following Apple's step-by-step guide in their Support pages.
If anyone has any experience with this problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look at this. I haven't been able to find a Windows 8.1 ISO to try as I don't have a license for that, only Windows 7.
Also, the USB stick I'm using now is a Sandisk Cruzer. I've seen it used elsewhere here with success, so figured it must be a suitable device.
Any ideas of what else to try?

Disable monitoring for non-system disks.

Hi all,
Our backup server dynamically mounts disks (with drive letters) when it's backing up a Virtual Machine.
These disks are giving a lot of alerts in our monitoring that we don't need, therefore we want to disable monitoring for these disks. What is the best way to disable monitoring for these non-system disks ? As I said, these disks are dynamically mounted and
unmounted ...
Any experience with this case ?

This is a bit surprising, since the logical disk discovery only runs once a day, plus it's not supposed to discover network and removable drives.
That means that your disks are mounted when the discovery runs and that they appear as "real" logical disks...
Unfortunately there is no "sync time" parameter for this discovery, which would have allowed you to specify the time of the day at which the discovery runs; thus allowing you to set a time at which you know the drives are not mounted.
Is there any other parameter that could help identifying these specific disks, besides their letter, so you could add them to a dynamic group?
Otherwise, what you could maybe try is to create your own logical disk discovery based on the native one, but with specific settings that would exclude your drives and then disable the native discovery.
But this again implies that you have something that would let you identify specifically your mounted drives... Also the native discovery is a quite complex VBS, I wouldn't actually recommend disabling/modifiying it.
Maybe I could have another idea with more details about your environment...

Non-system disk after installing Windows

Hello everyone,
I have a rMBP15 inch (late 2013) and am running 10.10 Beta 2. I tried installing Windows 7 via bootcamp but it keeps failing on me. After going through the Bootcamp Assistant (and assigning how much space I want to give the bootcamp partition) my Macbook reboots, and displays 'Non-system disk, press any key to reboot'. When I try to press any key, it doesn't respond.
When I turn off my Macbook and turn it on again, the same message displays. When I boot into the Startup Manager (by pressing Alt when booting up) it only shows Macintosh HD, and no Windows installation (which seems to make sense, I didn't install Windows yet, only made the partition...). What am I doing wrong and why is it not installing Windows like it should? I can't boot into the USB Stick I'm using either.
I would really appreciate any help as I really need to have Windows working on my machine too.

You cannot have two OS X installations and Bootcamp on a single disk. This is because Bootcamp uses MBR to install, which has limit of four partitions (EFI/ESP, Recovery HD, OS X, Windows).
W7 will have issues if you use EFI, but if you have choice, using W8.1 will let you get EFI based installation on this machine without the Hybrid MBR/CSM-BIOS method. I have it running via EFI on the same model.

Hard disk errors, but can't boot from the install DVD

My mini reports disk errors when I run the Disk Utility Verify on the main boot hard drive. However, I have not been able to boot the computer from the install DVD. I try restarting while holding down the C key, and still it boots from the internal drive. I've tried option-restart, and do not get the opportunity to select a boot disk. An external USB drive, on which I periodically clone the main disk, now does not mount. Disk Utility says it too has errors, and it is unable to repair them. A third external USB drive appears to be OK.
The computer is still operating, apparently normally, otherwise. This computer should still be under warranty. I bought it in April, as I recall.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I've attempted most of these things.
The drive on which I had the system clone died at essentially the same time as the problem came up with the errors on the main drive. I suspect this was due to the same root cause, or a related problem, just because of the timing. I'd cloned the main drive approximately a week previously with apparently no problem.
I also have been unable to boot from the install DVD.
The other external drive, the one that still works, is one I use mostly for rolling backups of my documents, photo and music folders. It is not big enough to hold a clone of the main drive. In any case, I'm assuming that if I attempted to clone it now, it would either not work, or I'd simply copy the errors to the clone.
I haven't used the Time Machine, since I didn't feel I had an external drive large enough to make it useful.
What 3rd party software do you recommend? Keep in mind, as I also mentioned earlier, that the computer is still under warranty, and I'm loath to do anything that could be construed as voiding the warranty.
I'm also on a pretty restricted budget, due to recent car repairs.

Boot camp, non-system disk windows 7 pro

I have a 13" Macbook Pro (7,1) mid 2010. I am attempting to use bootcamp to install windows 7 pro. at first, i could not select the "create windows 7 install disk" option. i then added my model and ROM version to the bootcamp info.plist after seeing multiple recomendations that this would solve the issue. i now have all options and can run bootcamp to install support files to usb and partion the disk. however, once my computer restarts i get a black screen that says "non-system disk. press any key to continue". I am forced to shutdown and hold option key to select mac hd to restart.
from other threads i have seen it sounds like since my mac has an optical drive it won't boot from usb, even after changing the info.plist in boot camp to try trick it. what do i need to do to complete the windows install? is it as simple as putting the windows .iso onto a cd/dvd and inserting it while i run bootcamp?

You should visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp rather than posting here in the Macbook Pro forum. The Boot Camp gurus hang out there and your issue has been answered several times. You must burn the iso onto a disk at the lowest speed (2x).

Non system disk installation

I would like to install CS4 production premium on a non-system disk, but no option for that seems to come up during the installation. Is it possible to do this?
