Kernel Error Panic
I recently bought a new MacBook 2 months ago. About a month or so after receiving it I began to receive kernel errors (the gray box with all the different languages in it). I bought the MacBook with 1GB RAM and a friend installed another 1GB for me (now it has 2GB). From things I have been reading, I am wondering if this is the cause of my kernel panics. It seems to happen mostly when I am using iChat. Everything else seems to be working fine. iChat freezes on me quite often. I have reformatted my computer once already and thought that things were going well until 20 minutes ago when I got a kernel error. I reformatted thinking that would solve my kernel error problems. I am not in the US right now and won't be able to take my MacBook into a store for another 6 weeks at the earliest. What should I do in the mean time? Should I reinstall the original RAM and then take the computer in when I get back to the states? Any advice would be appreciated... I am not that computer savvy. Thank you!
As pointed out by J.C., the most likely cause of your problem is the 3rd party RAM you've installed. Try replacing it with the original RAM that came with your system. This is exactly what the Apple techs will do if you take your machine to an Apple store. If the Kernel Panics stop, then this confirms that the 3rd party RAM was the cause. If not, you'll need to explore other options.

I had an iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, I downloaded and installed Lion, did not make me any questions. After the reboot I get this fatal error: Panic(cpu 0 ......) Kernel trap ......
Please post the Kernel Panic report. You will find it at /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports per
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2546
When we look at the KP report we may find some clues why it is occuring. -
New IMac is crashing randomly because of "Panic Kernel Error." Now IMac startup disk is not visible and will not mount. What the story with this machine. Running 10.6.7
Almost certainly, some sort of hardware problem on your logic board.
Make an appointment and take it to your local Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ -
Random Kernel Errors and need to repair disk
After trying to partition for Bootcamp, the computer locked into a Kernel error. I went to validate the disk and discovered that I need to repair the disk. I have tried booting from my OSX installation disk to access the repair disk functionality. I receive a kernel error each and every time I try to boot from disk. Details as follows - please advise.

The DVD however is in no way scratched or dirty. I will run the hardware test and report back.
Thank you for the leads. -

try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does the kernel error still appear? -
I have a white macbook not quite sure of OS think 10.4.2, it was bought mid 2006 so not sure if this matches. Am at work so can't check right now.
The last couple of days keep getting the kernel error and sometimes it turns back on straight away, sometimes if remove battery and replace then it works but generally it just keeps repeating the same error.
I have never added any RAM or anything, the only thing i can think is someone downloaded TVUplayer onto my mac the other day so it came up on the desktop .exe and then couldn't be opened obviously and was put in the trashcan.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank youHome from work the computer is Mac OSX 10.4.11 1.83 GHz intel 512 MB 667MHz
Took many attempts to turn on computer with kernel panic message coming on over and over again, finally am on this computer. No panic logs as it happens as it is starting up, please can someone explain what is happening.
Many Thanks -
MacBook Pro crashes with kernel errors
Hi, i'm havinge troubles with my 2009. macbook pro. It keeps crashing down with kernel errors.
I took it to apple, payed for a repair and they didn't fix it. Now i don't know what to do. I recently noticed that my right fan isnt working.
I'm leaving you with one of my error reports if you know how to read them.
Btw, hardware test simple and extended one reports ok. Disk warrior also. Could it be the temperature? Last time it crashet it was at about 76 celsius...crashes are not time reliable, sometimes i just turn it on and it crashes while loading os (its not yet hot), sometimes it can work for an hour or two then die again...

If you can't hear the fans running fast then I suggest you run the hardware tests from your install DVD (insert and reboot holding down d) to see if it shows any SNS (sensor) or MTR (fan motor) errors, if so get it to Apple for a fix. -
Ok, I've never had so many of these consecutively - since I upgraded to leopard I have had 3 kernel panics while I've been using the computer - each of them started with the internet not working, and each time I was running Azureus (if that's relevant). I've also had it not power up when the monitor was asleep (not the whole machine, which had been left on to complete a lengthy download - when I restarted download was not complete) - and when I try to send the error report to apple, it just comes up with "submission failed" and no explanation apart from "please try again later".
I am not happy. Is anyone else having these excessive problems with Leopard? I'm used to apple software being good...
EddOk - 2 minutes after I had posted that one it happened again. Arrgh! More details:
This time, I noticed that Azureus wasn't downloading, and safari was taking ages to load a page - I tried the ultimate test, google, and that didn't load either. I then went to turn my airport off and on and .. bingo - kernel error.
Here's the report log, which for some reason I can't send to Apple:

p.s. yes I know there's another thread with macbook kernel probs but I think this one is different... -
when I use java threats on intel Xserve cause this a kernel panic (interlock timeout for mutex)
I can reproduce Is problem with a simple java script ( see below)
Has anybody the same problem or a solution for this problem ?
how to test
save script as MutexSimulator.java and run
# javac MutexSimulator.java
# java MutexSimulator
result : the server gives a kernel error.. and reboots

}While I have found a few problems as well, I have gotten the intel xserve fairly stable (it did take a while and a lot of apple support calling)
I haven't had kernal panics, but I haven't been able to get the processors above 45% when doing compression. Also, I had some nasty lun masking problems with the fibre card which did result in corrpution of a HFS raid volume.
On the topic of xsan and the intel xserve, it is a BAD idea to try to install anything prior to 1.4.0. Had hangs, crashes and even corruption of the serial licensing daemon. Installing 1.4 and upgrading to 1.4.1 was a huge fix to those issues.
Overall, after a lot of work, it is working well, and does play back 100MB/s video extremely well off an xsan volume. Although, I would be fully content if I could get compressor's utilization of the CPU from 40 to 100%. -
OK. Have an iMac 27" 5 months old loaded. Did everything but kept getting kernel errors. First trip to Apple store they replaced the logic board but it kept happening. Second trip they replaced the hard drive and had to reinstall everything. Now the 3rd trip and the Apple tech is saying that it's a software issue. However when I got the iMac back I did not load my old software I resinstalled everything as new and did not install all my apps. He is now going to replace the RAM. In addition to kernel issues I could not copy folder to my external hard drive because of -50 errors and when I tried to shut down the Mac got the small black box that says something is wrong and need to restart. My question is as what point in time can I request a new machine and what happens if the tech continues to insist it's a software issue ?
This happened to me and I just got it fixed. A couple weeks ago, I ordered a refurb 21.5'' model. I got it and almost immediately experienced kernel panics to the point where I was seriously considering sending it back and using the money for a PC (yeah, it was that bad). Turns out it wasn't my computer neceessarily, but my wireless router. I was told that my 5 year old linksys router was conflicting with the way Mac OS X Lion communicates through wi-fi. Apparently, what Apple did with Lion was optimize it for new router technologies. However, in doing so, it seems they've caused compatibility issues with older cisco routers. I was told to update the router. About 5 minutes after doing so, it died (just my luck.) Went to the store and picked up a netgear brand one, and I haven't had one problem yet. It's been 4 days, and no kernel panic. Try to update your router, if you feel comfortable doing so. That may be the problem. Another solution would be to turn wi-fi off and just use ethernet until you can either get a new router or until Apple releases a fix.
-
Frequent Kernel Errors!?
In the past few weeks, I've been getting kernel errors about once every
day or two, which is a first in the entire time I've been using OSX on a
dozen machines. This Macbook Pro has 4G of memory, 3G addressable,
was purchased as a matched pair, has no other drives or USB connections
other than the wireless Timecapsule. It has passed the hardware diagnostics
with no errors of any kind. OSX has always been bulletproof in this regard
for me until recently. I once had one of the 2G chips not matched, and removing
that apparently prevented the two kernel errors I got a few years ago to never
reappear. And that problem was detected by the HW diagnostic. But this time...
Anyone else run into this? I'm running the latest Snowleopard build.By kernel errors do you mean a kernel panic (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742)?
* Exactly -- greyed screen, instruction to restart, etc.
What actually happens on the screen when these errors occur?
Are you using a particular program when they occur?
* Usually Safari, Mail, or possibly Graphicconverter.
Did you install any new software around the same time the issue started?
* No.
If so go to the panic log (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546) and see if there is an entry at the time when the panic occured and post it here.
* (See below)
In the mean time troubleshooting:
Backup your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Repair the drive using disk utility:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
Repair disk permissions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
* Did all of these.
Thanks!

Kernel error and forced shutdown
I have an early macbook pro 15" updated to Yosemite. I had kernel errors before the upgrade - as part of the upgrade erased the disk and used Time Machine to restore. There were no problems for sometime, but now the shutdowns from kernel error has started again. They don't seem to happen everyday, but every two days on average.
On Yosemite I did not find the log - but I have the Mac info and the latest panic report and hope that meets the need. Thanks!

Help - Kernel Error and Lost Disks
My Mac told me this a.m. that it needed software updating, so I clicked OK...it went to restart, and I got a Kernel error. Now...I can't find our original disks, which they say we need. We moved a year ago, and I have a terrible feeling they got tossed.
Do I have to buy new disks? Is that even possible? If so, could I buy any software I wanted?Mcubstea:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Exactly what did the kernel error look like?
Can you copy the kernel log and post it in your response?
You may or may not need install discs, depending on the kernel panic. If you don't mind, please post details of your computer system in your profile. Please include processor speed, display size, RAM installed, HDD capacity, HDD available capacity etc.
Thanks.
