Kernel panic after Mountain Lion download?
After I downloaded Mountain Lion on my older MB Pro 17", (which was running Lion 10.7.4 previously), upon the Restart that goes with the install, I got a Kernel Panic screen, telling me to restart again, which I did, returning to the same condition. I tried a Cmd-R restart and performed Disk Repair from Disk Utilities, then re-downloaded ML, but then got the same result.
For what it's worth: Here's the Kernel ID showing on my paralyzed screen:
Kernel UUID: A8ED611D-FB0F-3729-8392-E7A32C5E7D74
System model name: MacBookPro5,2 (Mac-F2268EC8)
Is my build too old for the Mountain Lion install?
Disconnect all external devices besides Apple keyboard and mouse, then see what happens.
If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices.

Frequent kernel panics after Mountain Lion upgrade
Hi All, I'm hoping somebody could please help as I am at the end of my tether with my MBP. Apologies for 'War & Peace' below, but I've tried a number of options already.
I won't go into every boring detail, but it started a couple of months ago when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on my 15" mid-2010 MBP (I had previously upgraded the RAM to 8Gb & the HDD 750Gb. Both were home upgrades, but all hardware was reputable and Snow Leopard ran on it absolutely trouble-free for 18 months)
After literally a couple of hours it crashed with a kernel panic (my first ever since I started using Macs in 2007), then just continued to do it regularly. I took it to a Genius Bar and I was advised that it could be because I had upgraded it rather than a clean install, so they wiped the disc and performed a fresh install and I restored the data from a previous back up.
- Not long after that the panics started again, so thinking it was software related I wiped it again & peformed a fresh install with a brand new profile. As I gradually installed all new versions of software it all worked for a week or so, then started the panics again. I stuck with this for a month or so - maybe 2 panics per night and they gradually became more frequent - maybe 5 times per night, until it just stopped booting.
- Took it back to the Genius Bar where they ran a hardware test and told me it was the HDD, but then said as I the disc wasn't Apple certified, they couldn't help me fix it (even though they had wiped it previously!?). They said they would order me a new Apple-certified HDD for me (320Gb @ £125 + VAT!!!), or I should go back to the original configuration (I had the old HDD & RAM at home)
- So in the last 48 hours I have replaced the 750Gb HDD with another and reinstalled OS X, still panics. Reinstalled the original RAM - still panics. I finally reinstalled the original 320Gb HDD this morning, with a fresh copy of OS X, brand new profile and without installing any software and guess what - still panics.
I have searched and searched forums and, on top of all these actions, I have gone through the whole repair permissions, disconnected peripherals, reset PRAM etc. Any suggestions very welcome as I just don't know what else I can do and I can't find anyone that seems to have experienced anything similar. I'm now thinking that it must be the system board, but surely it would be a more drastic failure?? Anyone help please??

MAC kernel panic after Mountain Lion install
Mac Kernel Panic has now started on my tower after i installed Moountain Lion.
I could not live with it and run my business so i had to get a new machine.
The tempertures are running the same on the new machine so it is NOT the temperture.
Apple support tried replacing one of my Nvita graphics cards to no avail.
Now they want to replace the second one.
Really??
What do you think???

If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices. -

Slow internet after mountain lion download
web pages open slowly or not at all after mountain lion download
I'm having the same problem but only at home with a slow internet service. At work with faster internet my macbook pro works fine. I wonder if Mountain Lion requires some minimum internet speed? Our old macbook pro (not using Mountain Lion) still works fine with our slow home internet. This change happened when I installed Mountain Lion. Also I can boot from by back up disk and bypass Mountain Lion and work with my slow internet at home. ???

After Mountain Lion download, FaceTime is not working anymore. Any ideas?
I have reinstalled mountain Lion again . This time, Facetime works when somebody calls me, and I can do calls from my Mac again. But the problem was still that I was not able to call my iPad, what I was able to do with Lion (I had one Apple-ID and two call adresses). The solution was this time to generate a second Apple-ID from the Facetime in my Mac (this doesn't affect your main Apple-ID, it's only used for Facetime). Now, it works! ;-)

HT4718 Can't find iLife after Mountain Lion download?
After my mountain lion download (done by a genius at the apple store so I know I didn't mess it up!), ilife isn't here. It's also not under the "purchase" section of the app store like support.apple.com says it should be. help?
New Macs come with iLife. However, if you did a clean install you're not going to have iLife.
However, the original install disk that came with your Mac should have an iLife installer included. -
Can I revert back to lion after mountain lion download
can I revert back to lion after mountain lion download
You actually can. If you call in to apple and ask for lion, they will email you an app store code that can be redeemed.

Kernel panic in Mountain Lion after walking up
Hi, everyone!
After upgrading Mountain Lion to version 10.8.3 I've got kernel panic from time to time. It happens after walking up from sleep mode (after openning laptop) or even when its screen is just turned off.
I investigated kernel panic reports in Console and realize that two kind of errors take turns. I cannot understand what it means; so, I need help of community. Please, help
My two error reports are listed bellow.

It could be RAM or maybe the GPU.
You could try reinstalling the OS and see if that clears it up.
If not, take it into an Apple Store or Service Center. -
Kernel panic installing mountain lion
I own 2 iMac's (24 and 27 inch), 2 Macbook Air, 2 Macbooks. All these machines crashed with a kernerl panic when upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion.
Apple have screwed up here somewhere. However, the fix is simple enough.
Here's what happens:
1. Download the Mountain Lion App
2. Install
3. System restarts
4. System crashes with a kernel panic on re-start
The fix...
1. Turn off the machine by holding down the power button
2. Turn on the machine and immediately press the 'option' key (located between the CTRL and CMD key)
3. The machine will prompt you to select the boot disk, options are 'Mac HD' and 'Installer'
4. Select the 'Installer' disk
Thats it, the upgrade will continue.
As this happened to all my machines I figure a lot of other people are having similar problems hence my reason for posting this.MacBook Pro mid 2010
well the first time i upgraded to ML it gave me a kernel panic at the restart part of the installation process. then i did a clean install after i restored from a backup and it was working fine i could actually log in and use my files, applications and documents with no problems so i shut it down for the day but then when i started it up again it gave me a kernel panic again so i had to restore AGAIN! so i tried the clean install again but this time i didnt transfer my files at the time of installation instead i wantd to see if the kernel panic would happen again so i installed it like a brand new mbp and restarted my computer guess what NO KERNEL PANIC!! so i then tried transfering my files and stuff and restoring using migration assistant and restarted again and i got the kernel panic i got my hopes up for nothing. i reintalled it again and i cant turn of my computer i have to wait for an update or a fix and i know for sure that its a software problem not hardware hopefully. -
MAc book crashing after Mountain Lion download
My MacBook Pro crashes when I move icons on my desktop. after it loads I get error message with a bunch of nonsense and GPU Panic which applecare peeps seem to think is a problem with graphics? I downloaded Mountain Lion yesterday. Help! it keeps crashing. I am panicking!
You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It has a defective logic board that may be covered by this recall program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending soon. Some units may have been sold by Apple as refurbished after that date.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Kernal Panic after mountain lion install
Tried various solutions on fixing this and its just become annoying and inconvient. Tried doing the Pram reset. Tried reinstalling mountain lion 3 times. This is just crazy. Every time I buy a new OS its always problems. I can't stand it. Next time I'm going to wait a few months before getting another OS from apple. This panic happens on a restart and when I shut down. Also happens to freeze after I close the laptop while its on and refuses to wake up.

As you have a Mac, OS X won't be damaged and it will start properly after deleting them. Your log clearly shows that the SMC and CPU power management extensions are causing the kernel panics, and you also have third-party extensions that belongs to SMC and CPU power management for PCs, so that's the problem -
Kernel Panics with Mountain Lion
Hello everyone!
I am having some problems with my Macbook Pro. I purchased it in late 2010 for school and ever since I upgraded the software to Mountain Lion, I've noticed some kernel panic crashes. Around April, shortly after upgrading, I noticed that it was crashing once a day. That progressed to crashing every hour. After checking the Console Log, I realized that an antivirus program I installed (Sophos) was constantly scanning every time it crashed. After I uninstalled it, I had no more crashes until very recently.
Now my MBP is back to crashing once every few hours. Based on the panic report, is this possibly related to the known graphics card problem with this model? If so, then why has it not surfaced until after I upgraded? I'm really hoping that is not the case. I tried going into Safe Mode and fixing the disk permissions and that doesn't seem to have affected anything.
Attached is the most recent report.
Any help is appreciated!

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Intermittent kernel panics in Mountain Lion on iMac
Hi, everyone!
I'm having intermittent kernel panics on my early 2009 iMac running Mountain Lion.
There's some kind of blink and the system immediately freezes and after a second or so Mac spontaneously restarts. Sometimes it happens when I simply surf the web, sometimes when I copy files (eg restoring backups from Time Machine). Twice it happend when the system was restarting after the freeze.
I didn't have any problems with Leopard that came with my computer. Kernel panics started with upgrade to Snow Leopard. I decided to give it a try and installed Mountain Lion.
Roughly at the time of upgrade to Snow Leopard I also upgraded my RAM from 4 to 8 GB.
What I've done already:
I repaired disk and permissions on your Mac OS X startup disk.
I updated my system and all applications.
I tried to rule out incompatible third-party kernel extensions (although I'm not aware of any) with Safe Mode, but again had some kernel panics.
I ran the Apple Hardware Test from the disc that came with my Mac (AHT version 3A157, 3.3.1), with the Extended Test option checked, in Loop Mode.
Last time I did it, It made 7 loops with the Apple RAM with no issues.
I repeated the test with the new, third-party RAM (Corsair), it made several loops as well, no issues found.
But I remember when I tried for the first time to run the test (with the third-party RAM), it froze during the third loop.
I also ran Memtest-86 v4.1.0. The first time I tried it, it passed 3 loops with no errors.
A few days later I tried again and it hung during the second loop (no issues found in first loop).
I removed my external disc drive (Time Machine), UPS and scanner cables.
So apart from the mouse (Razer Orochi, I broke my Apple mouse) I don't have now any peripherals nor hardware additions.
Lastly I erased the internal drive and installed Mountain Lion.
My last kernel panic log bellow.
Please note: there are 'kaspersky' and 'virtualbox' parts in the kernel panic log below, but kernel panics were happenning without Kaspersky and VirtualBox installed.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
Robert

When I finally tried it, I thought at first it helped to simply uninstall VB and Kaspersky – there were no kernel panics for about a day of work. It did puzzle me, though, why the crashes were occurring while in Safe Mode and not now.
But than again today I had a kernel panic while watching a short video online (Flash).
If I understood well Linc Davis comment, it means I have a faulty graphics adapter which means I have to replace the logic board.
Do you think I should try and find some third party tools to confirm that or look for a firmware patch? I don't want to spend weeks searching and wasting your and my time but maybe there's something else I didn't do or look for.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
My last kernel panic log below.
