Kernel panic at least daily since 10.7.4 update
Since 12th May when updated to 10.7.4 have at least one kernel panic per day sometimes four per day which means iMac i3 is useless for running a server platform. Multiple entries about this form may users is there a bug in OSX update? My recovery partition holds 10.7.2 any idea if this is bug prone as well?

Not sure what that above line means ?
You can either fall back or reinstall the 10.7.4 Combo update on top of your existing 10.7.4
The combo update can side step some problems if the delta update is giving you problems. Some would recommend repairing permissions prior to the install, some would boot into Safe Boot Mode before the install if there are issues.
If it is the Lion Server, be sure to install the server update: http://www.support.apple.com/kb/DL1529
if it is the Client: http://www.support.apple.com/kb/DL1524
If you are still having problems you can use the Recovery to reinstall the OS: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Your user folders/data should remain untouched in a reinstall however
always good to have a back up.

Kernel panic with mac os x 10.7.5 update
My mid 2009 Macbook Pro has been suffering kernel panics on boot ever since the OS 10.7.5 update at the beginning of November. It will do this twice when I start it up in the morning (interestingly, it will not do this for any subsequent reboots during the day), and then work fine. It seems to be associated with the video card drivers. Is this a known issue? Perhaps with a workaround (other than restarting twice? Latest kernel panic report follows:

Kernel panic on first boot after 10.6.8 update
Hi,
Here are the fact:
1) I systematically get a kernel panic on first boot after an attempt to update to 10.6.8 (was able to revert to 10.6.7 using Time Machine; now I'm running my tests on a clone). While doing the update, there are NO USB connexion to my laptop, nor ethernet connexion. Only the power cable.
2) I DO NOT use the software Hands Off which is known to cause such an issue
3) I've tested this on two different hard drive (with a clone of my system)
4) I disabled all third app on startup just to be sure this wasn't a conflict problem
5) After a kernel panic, I'm always able to boot in safe mode
6) I did try both the normal update and the combo update (same result)
Now I'm kinda stuck. The next test I'm thinking performing is to update while in safe mode. But I don't know if it will help.
And yes, my permissions are all fine. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I believe I need to be in 10.6.8 in order to update to Lion?
Many thanks in advance!
ParneixHi,
Sorry about that. Below you'll find the log of my latest kernel panic.
I did follow instructions suggested by user "ds store". The only "kext" file that I've got (by running the commands in the Terminal) was related to the software LittleSnitch. I downloaded it again in order to run the uninstaller. I'll try again to update to 10.6.8 under those conditions and report here.

I've been running a 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) for about a year and a half. It's factory stock (no hardware modifications) with a 2.8 Core 2 Duo processor and 4gig RAM with a 500GB HD. It came with 10.5 installed. I upgraded to 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8 respectively. Each time a new operating system came out, I did a clean install. My system has been 100% reliable up until I installed the 10.8.1 update. Since then, I've had a Kernel Panic and two separate crashes.
I doubt it's a hardware issue as it's never been suspect before. Also, I've run Disk Utility and verified the disk and permissions. No Problems there.
The first problem was the Kernel Panic, which occurred while I was in the guest account watching YouTube videos. The system went to a gray screen then gave me the typical "Panic" message and rebooted itself.
The second problem must have occurred while the computer was in sleep mode, as I don't recall any particular issue, but I found a CRASH log in the logs folder.
Finally, I encountered the most recent crash while I was exiting out of the ADMIN account on my computer. The system went to a gray screen with a rotating bezel indicator, and wouldn't return to the log-in screen. I had to manually cycle the power button in order for the computer to reboot.
I'm not sure what's going on.Hi. Since updating to 10.8 I've had numerous kernel panics on start-up. A restart always worked successfully, but it's getting annoying. I started out by replacing the HD with an SSD. That didn't work. Then I resent the PRAM/NVRAM. That seemed to work. Then I upgraded to 10.8.1 - and we're back to kernel panics.
Here's the log, and below it are photos of the initial kernel panic. :

Kernel panic on Macbook, possibly since 10.6.8
Hello,
I have a 2008 white Macbook, relatively vanilla (nothing funky installed, no external hardrive, screen, keyboard or mouse) and have been experiencing irregular kernal panics for about 7 to 10 days, which I believe is when I updated to 10.6.8.
These panics usually happen when I leave my computer totally idle, after maybe 10 to 20 minutes. This is not my sleep settings, though, so it's not when the computer is supposed to put itself to sleep.
I tried to run Onyx and Rember, but got kernel panics while running both.
I will very soon have to put my laptop to stress for my work, and I am worried that it might not perform. Therefore, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction.
Here are three kernel panics logs from today. Anybody got an idea?

Ever since the 4.3 update, which I waited until end of January 2014 to download, My phone has been messed up. Some of the problems I solved on my own since Verizon and Samsung both refused to help me. I fixed the charging problem by using an HTC Incredible charger since Samsung's charger is garbage since the update. Battery drain is also a constant issue. Ram is ALWAYS full which should be a good thing but clearing it out completely and killing off all Google apps seems to make my phone all of a sudden fly and work super fast. As the day goes on I am unable to clear all of these unwanted items from being open and bogging down my phone. Most of the apps doing this are the preloaded ones you don't need. I am forced to restart my phone to get the memory cleared at least 2-4 times a day. Verizon tells me this is normal. Samsung hangs up on me when I call. Why do I have to restart this phone just to get it to work like it should after a few hours of being on? Does Verizon care about customers or just money?
@Verizon Wireless Customer Support. I have the 4.3 version that I got with the awful update. I waited until the end of January to download it and guess what was never fixed? Your update. Its been months and battery drain is not better at all. I have replaced with a new battery and it was the same problem. I have used safe mode numerous times and it does not do anything either other than annoy me some more. I have done a factory reset on my phone since the update I downloaded in January 47 times so far. It didn't do anything but erase everything and I had to start all over. Google apps are a major reason my phone is lagging. Once I force stop them the phone has incredible speed, when the Google apps are on, the phone lags. The internet browser is also super slow. 56k dial up has faster speeds than my mobile browser and I have full 4g lte bars. Its beyond annoying because when ever I call Verizon customer service I am told nothing is wrong. If I break the phone into a million pieces you would still tell me its working properly. This problem persists on a daily basis. I now restart my phone 4 to 6 times daily. I am starting to wonder why the quality of your company is getting worse and worse? I have been around with Verizon wireless since early 2000 when you first merged with Vodafone, but in the past 4 years things have changed dramatically and I have stopped feeling appreciated like Verizon once made me feel

Kernel panic & loss of sound resulting from interrupted software update
Help, please...I'm at a loss!
In a nutshell:
I had a software update (I think it was Safari) installing on my iMac when a power outage occurred. When I tried to start my computer, I got a gray screen with text (which I lacked the forethought to copy down, but it did have the words "kernel", "panic" and "mis-matched version" in it, I think), and a dark box in the center of the screen telling me "You may need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
I tried powering down a few times, but kept getting the same screen.
I then tried starting up in safe mode, which at least got me to my desktop. Upon restarting normally, I can use/access the internet and almost all of my programs (EXCEPT Adobe CS3 - which now gives me a "the application quit unexpectedly" message every time I try to use any of the programs). I noticed also that my sound is GONE. When I try to adjust the volume, I get the gray "broken file" sign.
I attempted to reset the PRAM, but nothing seems to have changed. I still have no sound.
I can hear the start up sound (really loudly), so I know that, at least, is working, but nothing else.
I'm not sure what I need to do next - do I need to have a Firmware Restoration CD? If so, which version? The 1.7 version does not list my computer's model identifier, and I definitely don't want to try to restore with the wrong version.
Is there anything else I can do to resolve this issue? I don't live anywhere near an Apple store or any place that services Macs (I'm in rural Windows-only country), and I do not have AppleCare, so I'd really like to try to resolve this on my own if at all possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! What ever was being installed during the power outage has messed up a lot with your installation of Mac OS X when the installation abruptly stopped. I think that you should do an Archive and Install, which will Archive your old System and Install a new system with Mac OS X, leaving your personal files and user accounts as they are.
You do this from you Install DVD that came with your Mac. These instructions are from Mac Help in the Help Menu of the Finder.
+1. Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.+
+2. Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).+
+3. Click Options.+
+*a. If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”*+
+b. If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.+
+4. Click Continue.+
+5. Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).+
+NOTE: If you selected “Erase and Install” in step 3, you may need to use the Applications Install DVD that came with your computer to reinstall your iLife applications (GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb). If you are prompted to use the Applications Install DVD, insert the Applications Install DVD, double-click the Install Bundled Software icon, and then follow the onscreen instructions.+
You will need to update to the most recent versions of all your Apple apps and Mac OS X, as this A & I will dial the clock back to the versions of all the Apple software on your install DVD. You may need to reinstall 3rd party apps, such as from Adobe. You can drag & drop the archive system to the trash and discard it. It is no longer usable by your Mac. However, there are sometimes things in the archived system that folks fish out, but that really involves knowing for what you are fishing!
The only way to avoid all of this work is if you happen to have a clone of your Mac saved to a backup dating from just before you started installing the update that was in progress when you were effected by the power outage.

Kernel Panic Subsequent to Mac OS X Snow Leopard Update
I can no longer start my Mac Mini since an automatic update of Mac OS X 10.6 today, Sunday, March 27th 2011. I have tried restarting 3 times and cannot through a kernel panic. What's up?
Mikemikefromhuntingtonstation wrote:

I have no idea what you are talking about here. I have never heard of such a thing as hardware being obsoleted by an upgrade.
I have heard of hardware failing and that causing kernel panics but never heard of anything like you are suggesting.
It sounds like you need more tin foil in your protective hat there.

Kernel panic after Mac OS 10.6.4 Software Update?
I was in the process of installing SimCity 4 Rush Hour on my 15" MacBook Pro Summer-2008. I have NEVER had any problems with MacBook. I was having issues installing Rush Hour, so I decided I needed to restart. But first I ran the software update that came up earlier today. I'm pretty sure this was the update to 10.6.4, but I'm not totally sure. I just know it was installing iTunes 9. So the update seemed to finish fine and I had walked away while it was restarting. When I came back, I had a black screen with one line of half white text/half grey text at the very bottom:
Debugger called: <double panic>to current thread: Unknowa) on stack)
I've tried restarting, resetting the PRAM, starting in Safe Mode -- each time I get as far as the Apple logo and then I get a kernel panic that covers the screen in text and then progressively darker screens until I get to the final black screen with the line of text at the bottom.
I don't have a Hardware Test Disc, and even if I did, my SimCity disc is still inside.
HELP!!!!Restart holding down the mouse button. That should eject the stuck disc. No AHT disc? Then, call AppleCare and request a replacement one. That disc's essential for checking hardware for KPs.

Kernel Panic Since ATI Radeon HD 5770 was installed
Hi
I have a Mac Pro 3,1. I recently installed ATI Radeon HD 5770 card powering 2 x Apple Cinema Displays. I also have 2 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT pwering 2 17" non Apple monitors.
Since installing the 5770, the Mac has regular kernel panics - at least once a day, sometimes several times. The Cinema Diplays which go blank - the other 2 just freeze. I've captured the log form the most recent one - pasted below. I'd appreciate any advice from any clever people!
Thanks

Daily kernel panics on 11" MacBook Air
Hi,
I bought an 11" MBA a couple of weeks ago. It came with iWork pre-installed, and the only other thing I did was run the Software Update. A couple of days later, the machine started experiencing kernel panics on a daily basis. They mostly happen when the I open the computer lid, and everyone of them was caused by a different process.
I took the MBA to the Apple store, and they gave me a new one. A couple of days later, the new one started doing the same thing, so I took it back. The Apple store employee kept the MBA overnight, and told me he'll re-install a fresh MacOS X image and run some tests. After I got the MBA back, it worked fine for a couple of days, and then went back to kernel panicking.
I see that some other people have posted similar problems, but didn't see an official reply from Apple.
Has Apple acknowledged the problem?
If they have, then I'm willing to wait for a fix. If they have not, then this machine is going back for a refund.
Thanks,
DanaThanks for the replies. I already replaced the machine once, with the same results.
My access point is a a Linksys WRTU54G-TM wireless router (the one used for Tmobile@home).
I looked at the crash report, and every one is different. Here's the latest one:

A dozen+ Kernel Panics, suspect system issues - what to try?
Hello!
Well, in the last few weeks, my poor little Powerbook has lost its mind. I keep having Kernel panics for no apparent reason. Here's the story so far:
1. I upgraded to Leopard (archive/install) from Tiger, in November.
2. In early January, I had at least one kernel panic. Not sure what happened. By the middle of January, I had 3 or 4, and on (about) the 15th, I had three kernel panics in the span of an hour - and the lower ram card wasn't being recognized. I took it to the Apple store, where the tech said that it was the infamous "lower ram-slot issue" that plague my model Powerbook.
3. Once I got the powerbook back from the shop, it seemed to work quite well - fast, stable, panic-free. This week, however, I've had at least 6 or 7 kernel panics - at least 4 of them in the last 24 hours. A few of these weren't the usual "you need to restart your mac" window, but rather a long list of console-like text from the BSD subsystem itself
It seems to be related to the software - or perhaps Dashboard. Dashboard client has been running out of control this week - and started to go nuts about when the kernel panics started to occur. In fact, one of these "BSD" panics said that the dashboard client hung the computer. Thus, I moved all of my user (non-apple) widgets out of the library folder - effectively removing them from dashboard. This has prevented dashboard client from going nuts, but hasn't stopped the kenel panics. The ones that have occurred since seem to occur when using Safari or MS Word 2004, and one (another BSD panic) said that Window Server hung.
I've repaired permissions many times, used Disk Utility to verify the boot volume (it was OK), and zapped the PRAM and PMU - no luck.
I've had some other hardware and software issues:
First, Spotlight crashes when I attempt to search for something with a common name and have my 4 external hard drives attached... (One with Time Machine backups, one with other backups, and the rest with large volumes of video editing files). This issue probably isn't related to the kernel panic issue though, since it only occurs if I spotlight gets really bogged down - say, I search on "mac" and get 5000 returns...
Sometimes, if I have the power adapter plugged in and then boot up or wake the Mac, it sometimes won't recognize the adapter and thus run off battery. The solution? Unplug the adapter from the Mac and the wall, then plug both sides in. This occurs at least once a day, having become a much worse issue since sending it into Apple. This makes me think that I may have a issue with the power supply system in the Powerbook, and may be one of the causes of the panics. Again, zapping the PMU and PRAM, hasn't helped. Nor has deleting every power-related plist file.
The ram issue seems to have stopped, and I'm not sure the power issue could cause this - so I don't know what to do about this. It's happening a lot, but it's not exactly predictable - it would be difficult to reproduce for the Mac Genius, should I run to the Apple store. Since I suspect it's a software issue, I'm also not sure they can do anything about it. If Apple can't do anything about it, I plan on doing an Erase-install of Leopard, then carefully installing software - one thing at a time - to see if I can find the culprit. If worst comes to worst, I'll downgrade to Tiger...
So then, the questions, summed up are:
1. Do you have any idea what could be going on?
2. Can apple do anything about a software-related kernel panic issue?
3. If Apple can't fix it, and an erase-install won't work, when else can I try?
Sorry for the long post, and thanks a bunch for the help, I appreciate it.
-DanK, well i'll try to find the log on the backup clone I made - the Powerbook is currently in the Apple store for diagnostics. Hopefully, then can figure out what the deal is, but it will likely require an archive/install.
When I was there, he opened one of the logs in console - and it showed literally thousands of errors - all from "kernel". Wow, i have no idea what happened. He said that it may be bit-rot on the part of some of my applications, but there's probably not much they can do if it's not a hardware problem. sigh
Anyway, I'll look for the log on the backup volume when I get a chance. Thanks, I suppose you're right about you being forced to guess without the log. Didn't think about that... O:-) -
Kernel panics during TM backup
I have been having problems with kernel panics during Time Machine backups and I would like to find out if others have had similar experiences. If this is a problem unique to my configuration, then I need to do more work. If others are having the same issue, then perhaps I just need to wait until a fix is issued.
Some background, I am using TM on two computers, an early 2006 iMac and a first generation Aluminum 15" Powerbook. On the iMac, TM is now very reliable, on the PB, it will ALWAYS kernel panic at least once during a large backup, sometimes 2 or 3 times before it manages to finish the backup. Since I have been playing around with backup disk configurations, I've made several initial backups, so I've also seen quite a few kernel panics, but ONLY when TM is running a large backup.
Are you hit with kernel panics during TM backups? I see some discussion along those lines in this forum.
The most recent initial backup was with Spotlight disabled and it DIDN'T panic. This was unusual. As TM is adding files to the backup disk, Spotlight is busy indexing the new files at the same time. It is possible that the two are not playing well together on the lower performance machines, such as this 1.25 GHz G4. By adding the backup disk to Spotlight's privacy list, Spotlight is inhibited from indexing the backup disk.
- gwsFor information, this problem appears to be due to some unique problem with my particular computer.
I had been having 2 or 3 kernel panics every day. Finally, I did a Safe Boot and the panics ceased completely. Not one in the last month. Looks like it was some kind of corrupt data that the Safe Boot cleaned up.
