Kernel Panic & DoubleCommand
I recently installed DoubleCommand and right away, it caused a Kernel Panic. I didn't associate the two before, but now I hear it causes them. Next, I tried partitioning my drive for XP, and halfway through the partition, another kernel panic. This screwed up my harddrive and I had to repair it with Disk utility. I tried it 2 more times, each time screwing up my hdd.
Does anyone know how to remove this program so it won't do anymore damage?

Multiple Kernel panics on iMac using OS 10.4.8
Hi, firts let me aplogize for the long post...
In the past week I have experienced 3 kernel panics. not sure why. I could have chalked it up to a sw update had the first one not happen a few hours before the update.
The only thing I know of that could possibly be an issue are my twain scanner drivers from epson as they were only compatible with ppc and not intel. and doublecommand which had some errors so i removed it.
during one of the crashes i was using remote desktop, which didnt really surprise me since its ms, but the last two were while I was using firefox which has had no new updates prior to this happening.
i have read the developers notes on apple for deciphering panics but they are all based on ppc and not intel, so not helpful.
I ran the hw test over an dover for about 2 hrs, nothing wrong there...
I downloaded and ran cocktail and deep cleaned my caches...
Disk util says all is ok... also ran the permissions fix.
below are the panics, they are all exactly the same with the exception that one occurred on the other cpu, any insight would be helpful. the timestamps in the system log that match the panic dont tell me much either, it appears the the tiemstamp om the panic is the actual shutdown/restart time and when i view the system log i see nothing popping out prior to the reboot, aside from a highmem trap and a few timestamps that look out of place.... i prefer troubsleshooting and debugging myself so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great!

I basically installed from scratch, then added programs/peripheals one at a time until the KP came back. I am going on over 2 days now with no KP, so I think I may have it narrowed down to some Logitech drivers.
I also swapped out my RAM to eliminate bad RAM... I got KP on both sets of RAM.
My suggestion is to remove all peripheals/drivers/programs that are "non" apple and add them one at a time until the KP comes back. Using stuff that is not Intel compliant could be the issue.
Does anyone know how to turn up debugging or make the console log more robust to collect more data? -
Nearly every time I shut down my computer, it seems to have a kernel panic right before turning off and just idles with fans on with no apparent activities. I was hoping that somebody could understand this kernel panic to help isolate the problem.

I don't really know what to look for in these, and if anyone can see anything or point me in the right direction (I've tried repairing disk permissions and resetting the power management). Thanks!http://www.google.com/search?ie=utf8&oe=utf8&q=Applekernelpanic
A number of trial and error things to do, check the FAQs from above.
Probably need to rule out device by device and suspect any cable, USB or FW or device connected.
Also, these could be damaging the filesystem and disk directory. -
Constant kernel panics, now immediately at startup
Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 15 early 2011.
a while ago I started getting kernel panics (mac restarting with the message "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press any key to continue or wait a couple of minutes to reboot"). After a few days it happened more often, very quickly upon startup and now it happens even before the login screen. White text appear on black rows on the screen beside the apple logo and the computer then restarts. I can start it in safe mode so I retrieved the panic logs.
Before i hand it in to an Apple official I'd just like to know if there is anything I can do myself (hope it's not hardware).
Thanks for any help!
Here is the latest panic report:

Constant kernel panics with USB
I have become increasingly frustrated and angry at my MacBook in the last few weeks. Nearly every time I plug in a USB hub, I get a kernel panic. When I send the report to apple, this is what comes up near the bottom of the window:

Sometimes there's a USBHUB written in there. What is going on? I've tried switching from a rather generic hub to a Belkin one, and most recently I just plugged in my aluminum keyboard and immediately got a KP. They've been happening with regularity over the past while, all when I unplug or plugin my USB hub with an iPod touch, keyboard/mouse, USB drive and headset (though recently I've been removing peripherals).
I'm about to do an archive and install (assuming my MB works long enough for me to download the combo updater) but want to kill this bug soon.I'm afraid not. Kernel panics are notoriously difficult to diagnose.
Have you changed your system in anyway since the panics began (a new peripheral/hub, installed new RAM etc)?
This site has a list of general ideas to help try and figure out what's going on:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Maybe something in there will work for you. Good luck! -
I have been getting kernel panics about twice a day lately, and I figured I might as well ask on here before taking it in to the Apple Store. This is my most recent kernel log. It always happens in Safari, and I think it's an issue with the graphics driver.

I don't have vmware installed and I don't see from your report how it could be related to that. It seems to me something related to the graphics driver and Safari since I also get these panics when I have Safari open or when I switch from one tab to another or load a page. It seems also to be related to the Intel driver which means it happens while your system is using the Intel GPU. If you have a MacBook Pro with dual GPU try turning off automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver system preferences so it only uses the Nvidia GPU. I just did that, hopefully it helps. -
Kernel Panic and Ethernet Cable
This seems too weird to be true, but my ethernet cable seems to have been responsible a kernel panic.
At least this is what http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464 says...
....If an Ethernet cable is connected to your computer, temporarily disconnect it and restart. If you have enabled NetInfo, you may need to temporarily disable it in the Directory Setup application....
What can this mean?
Here is the Kernel Panic log info and what I have been doing...
Last night I installed SnapZ Pro 2 and registered it. I made it available to all users on the computer.
Other suspicious activity... a co-worker sent a file that I thought was a AppleWorks doc, but was gibberish instead.
This morning the iBook would not boot. Each attempt resulted in "kernel panic" screen. Ran TechTools. Found only minor errors in the Finder test.
From another computer, I found article 106464 at doc.info.apple.com
I tried safe boot (shift-boot). No kernel panic, but no boot either.
I removed the ethernet cable.
It booted.

Try testing the Ethernet cable for the reproducibility with another computer that does not install "Baltaks DoubleCommand" kernel extension file. I am sure the Kernel Panic called the ISI Exception (0x00400) panic type will not occur. Although a configuration set for your Ethernet device with Baltaks DoubleCommand could impact on the Instruction Storage Interrupt exception.
Typically, this type of the panic exceptions is caused by an attempt to execute an instruction at an invalid memory address, jumping to location zero-- in your case, it is "PC=0x0000000000000000" value on the program counter register in the microprocessor.
You will now please focus on the exception state value 0x213CD000. The closest values to this exception are indicated with the following kernel extension files (.kext).
- com.baltaks.driver.DoubleCommand(1.6.2)@0x21bc7000
- com.apple.driver.AppleADBKeyboard(2.3.9)@0x212e0000
- dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOADBFamily(8.0.0)@0x21209000
Those loaded kernel extensions at the panic phase are a family that belongs to the same region of a source inside Mac OS X operating system. Thus, the first culprit is com.baltaks.driver.DoubleCommand. However, a preconfigured insufficient setting for/on the utility could face a mapping address collision to lead up to the panic.
If you can still start up the computer in a safe-mode without the Ethernet cable, try removing the questioned file and other related files (if you install).
Method 1: Using command lines should be the best way; I am afraid I do not know for the syntax. Find Michael Conniff for this help.
"sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions" could be necessary before restarting the computer.
Method 2: Manually remove the files onto the Desktop. Then, restart the computer.
Method 3: "Archive and Install" or "Erase and Install" solution. -
Intel HD3000 repeated kernel panics
I'm writing some software (an open-source microscope control system) that uses OpenGL, and I'm getting repeated kernel panics whenever I make even a minor mistake. That is, OpenGL is functional, but if I do something slightly wrong then my computer crashes. This makes debugging absurdly painful, as you can probably imagine.
The panic report log (pasted below) clearly implicates the HD3000 driver. My question is, what can I do about this? The program should crash if I do something wrong, absolutely, but it shouldn't take the computer with it. This is ruining my ability to get work done.
I suppose it's remotely possible that the card is at fault, but I was able to play a 3D game without any difficulty so I doubt that.
I'm running OSX 10.7.4 and Software Update says I'm fully up-to-date. Would it be possible to downgrade my graphics card drivers? Perhaps a previous version is more stable.

Hi there,
I've gotten kernel panics. Several a day since I upgraded to Leopard.
This is what the report says:
Backtrace continue...
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.baltalk. driver. DoubleCommand (1.6.5)@0x4fc33000-->0x4fc38fff
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(1.5)@0x6a5000
com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily(1.5)@0x6a5000->0x6dcfff
I used to have DoubleCommand installed and uninstalled/removed it. When I do a search in spotlight I can't find any reference to DoubleCOmmand.
Not sure how to interpret to anything else? Does anyone know what my next steps ought to be so I don't have kernel panics? Thanks a lot.Just got my first:

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

I have a 2010 macbook pro currently running 10.6.8 that has served me very well over the last 4 years, except in recent months it has been getting frequent kernel panics. Started every few weeks, now happens multiple times a day. It seems to happen more frequently when I'm doing something like playing a game which makes me think it might be related to the GPU or the computer overheating, but I can't find any specifics on how I'd go about troubleshooting from here. A typical report after a kernel panic is below:

You may be able to use gfxCardStatus 2.3 to switch to using the other GPU instead which should stop the frequent panics until you get the motherboard replaced or buy a new computer.
Of course don't dismiss the possibility that the software you have installed has installed extensions that are not compatible:
com.cisco.nke.ipsec 2.0.1
com.quark.driver.TetherBerry 1.0.0d6
com.parallels.kext.prl_vnic 7.0 14922.693916

com.parallels.kext.prl_usb_connect 7.0 14922.693916
Try running in Safe Mode to see if the panics stop. If they do, then you need to completely uninstall the software responsible for the above extensions: Cisco, Quark, and Parallels. -

Get kernel panic when I burn DVDs
when I burn several DVDs using the internal DVD burner on my 1.25 Ghz G4 running OS X 10.4.11, I am getting a kernel panic that tells me to reboot my computer. I'm using Toast Titanium 8 to burn with. Any ideas how to prevent this?
Here's the details:

Kernel Panic with 10.4.3, 10.4.4
I have a Quicksilver dual 1GHz G4 with 1.25GB of ram. It was ridiculously stable until the 10.4.3 update. With the 10.4.4 update, things got even worse. I now have so many kernel panics as to make the machine unusable.
I've run through the "Resolving Kernel Panics" page step-by-step... run DiskWarrior, run the machine with "plugs-out" (NO FireWire or USB devices plugged in), archive & installed, ran with each stick of ram individually, repaired permissions, zapped the PRAM, run "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" in Open Firmware.... nothing fixes it, nothing seems to be the culprit.
Crash log below. Can anyone help PLEASE?

Quicksilver G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)Sorry, forgot to include that info. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and the TechTool Pro suite of hardware tests.... all passed. (And yes, I had pulled everything FireWire and USB except the Apple keyboard and mouse, which were plugged directly into the Mac.) In addition to the Open Firmware "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", I also hit the CUDA switch on the motherboard. The machine is still giving me kernel panics. The only thing I haven't done yet is pull the hard drives and clean-install onto a new drive. (I hope to do that tonight.)
What's interesting is that the dim-out "You have to restart your computer" screen is gone, and has been replaced by white-on-black text generator text overwriting the GUI display, and after restart there's no "report to Apple" dialog, nor is there any log entry. Having Console and Activity Monitor show nothing out of the ordinary.
For what it's worth, I'm "forcing" the KP by running iTunes with the visualizer running, figuring that's the closest thing to me sitting at it doing stuff and waiting for it to crash out. When it panics, the music goes into a loop of the last 1/2-second of music (i.e. "dit-dit-dit-dit-dit-dit...")
Another item of note is that 10.4.0 (after clean install) and 10.4.2 do not have this problem. The panics only occur under 10.4.3 and 10.4.4.
The text of the white-on-black text is retyped as follows. Notice that the DAR record is the only thing different between the two:

Hi all -
So my Mac Pro 1,1 has been having kernel panics intermittently and I don't think they are tied to any specific OS upgrade. I used to get a couple a year until a few months ago and now I am getting them more frequently and I can't repro them.
I've Googled incessantly the past several days looking for possible solutions and cannot come up with anything. Does the kernel crash log mean anything to anybody?

Mac OS X kernel generally does not do this. But you are not running Mac OS X kernel, you have made a large number of modifications to it:

The backtrace points to Disk I/O routines as the place where the problem was detected. I would be very suspicious of your third-party drives that require non-standard drivers. I have external drives, but none requires a Driver, and I certainly do not see your crashes.
If you want Apple to take your problem seriously, you will need to duplicate the failure with no non-Apple kernel extensions present.
