Kernel panic during install - how to continue?

Mountain Lion downloaded and installed for a long time but then it started rebooting. It comes then with a Kernel panic page
"Panic, Kernel trap at XXX, type 14=page fault" ....
It then reboots and the whole thing keeps repeating itself over and over.
How should I proceed? My iMac has never had any problems prior to this install.
Thanks

I too am having the exact same problem, I guess I should have listened to my spideysense saying don't be the first one to upgrade. I have been on these threads all day and have tried everything, not making any money today....
1. I have the latest and greatest 2 month old MacPro tower, 12 processors, upgraded videocards, 24 gigs of RAM, etc, etc. so I am ruling out a hadware deficiency
2. I tried the Option - R reboot, ran permissions, fixed one permission, same problem, constant re-boot, on it's own
3. I tried the PRAM reset, actually two or three times, same problem, constant re-boot, on it's own
4. I tried the Safe Mode reboot, same problem, constant re-boot, on it's own
5. I didn't set up a Time Machine yet so I couldn't try that.
6. I removed any and all unecessary peripherals, only used the one monitor, got in safe mode and turned off the Wi-Fi. same problem, constant re-boot, on it's own
7. My last option is to reboot with Option - R and re-download and reinstall ML but our office internet is having issues and it says it will take 14 hours to re-download, any other possible solutions out there ?

  • Kernel Panic after installing Mac OSX Lion

I have a late 2009, 15" Macbook Pro that I've upgraded to mountain lion about three weeks ago and when I upgraded the first time I kept getting kernel panics like no tommorrow. I used my flash drive which had lion uploaded to it to "downgrade" to lion in case this happens. I also had mountain lion on the flash drive to so I did a clean install of mountain lion through my flash drive. After that, kernel panics still seem to appear. I got frustrated and called apple support, and lets say that after many hours of testing, installing, and configuring that they just told me to simply go to an apple store, which was a two hour drive from Pine Plains, NY to Danbury, CT only to have them reenstall mountain lion (again) through a network. When I finally got it back and tested it for an hour I thought things would be fine... But lo and behold, another kernel panic appeared. I've taken the liberty to track the programs that I've installed and used during the testing as well as the kernel panic that was reoccuring.

I'll try to figure out how to read this as soon as possible, but until then I need your help to solve this problem.

That panic was not caused by third-party software.
If the panic is recurrent, the possibilities are (1) a damaged OS X installation; (2) a hardware fault, which could be internal or in a wired peripheral device; and (3) an obscure bug in OS X.
You can rule out the first possibility by reinstalling the OS. Probably there will be no change. In that case, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or unless it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at leasttwo independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Kernel Panic during Installation

Recently, Tiger (in my macbook) has been experiencing crazy problems. Programs refuse to start, quit suddenly, the OS X get kernel panics, and other issues. So I went to the this Apple message board and ask. I tried various solutions; they all work, BUT the problems would return and new ones arise. The main solution was reparing disk and its permissions. It worked at first but troubles persist. So then I decided to reinstall Tiger through archive and install. It almost finished but once it was setting up iwork, everything stopped for an hour until I manually shut the computer down. I attempted another try, same problem. So I moved onto erase and install. Everything worked out well until I came to the setup info screen. Things were going fine until BAM, kernel panic. I shut down the mac again and it loads os x. Now i'm afraid things will repeat itself. How often would one get a kernel panic during installation (in this case info setup)? I just want everything normal.
Mac mini, MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1GB, 1.25GB Ram (respectively)

    How often
would one get a kernel panic during installation (in
    this case info setup)?
Um...never? Kernel Panics are never something you should encounter on any sort of regular basis. Sounds like it could be a bad hardware component, most likely the RAM. Has it been upgraded since you got it?
Anyway, I'd take it to an Apple Store or get on the line with AppleCare asap.

  • Kernel panic during Leopard 10.5.3/4 net-installation

    Hi,
We have built universal Leopard images on net-install server. I am getting kernel panic during net-installation of 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 images on old iMac bubble G4 machines. These images's net-installation works perfect on latest machines like G5, Intel MacPro, iMac G5.
I am not getting any problem with 10.5.2 image with this old bubble machine. But this problem occurs only after 10.5.3 images. Here is a small part panic trace, (Sorry, I couldn't get full trace since there was no way to copy it)

    Hi Rohit;
It appears your Leopard question has been posted in the OS 9 forum. You might have a better chance for an answer if you report over in the Leopard forum.

can any one help me out here, tomorrow I am going to boot it into target disk mode and install from a G5 onto the powerbooks HD doing a CLEAN install and then I am going to try booting it from a DVD and doing another CLEAN intstall just cause I dont trust a firewire install for some reason. I would like to avoid all this mess if possible. ANY HELP PLEASE, either respond or email me tend0 at mac dot com. thanks

haha oh man thanks for startin slow with me, but we are passed that tested RAM, start up items, prefs, tried makin a new user account, as I stated before I can not boot from a DVD/CD.. that was one of the problems so I cant run anything that involves tageting the main HDD while its mounted. I have also repaired perms, ran fsck, tried booting up DiskWarrior(didnt boot from the CD), etc. if any one knows this perticular kernel panic string and can point out what the conflict is I can resolve it but other than that I have ran the run of the mill check to see if everything is in order procedure again and again.

  • Six kernel panics since installing Lion

So I've had six kernel panics since installing Lion on my sandy bridge MBP.  Usually running safari, mail, and excel when they occur.   Weird third-party process or something?  I actually don't have many applications installed on this computer.  Any thoughts?
Perhaps this has something to do with it but I don't know, when looking at my login items there's a flag next to iTunesHelper.  I don't know what the flag means.
    Thanks

The flag simply means hide this application after it automatically launches.  It should have nothing to do with your kernal panic. You need to post the relevant log message for folks to analyse.
There are others who can help with that; I'm not really good at reading the logs.
Although it shouldn't be responsible, you might want to take gfxCardStatus out of your startup just in case.  You can always put it back in if that's not the culprit.  Others have used it without any kernal panics, so it's probably a bad WAG.

  • Why do I get a kernel panic during large downloads?

Since I got my new MacBook Pro, it's been doing kernel panics during large file downloads.
Getting rid of Chrome seemed to help but today the panics are back.  I just started up in Safe Boot mode and the downloads (two files, approx. 500 and 300 MB, respectively) completed downloading without incident.
While I'm checking out my startup items, has anyone else seen this problem?  I didn't have this problem with my Core 2 Duo.

I took a look at the dump and saw a reference to an Elmedia Player kext.  I remembered that in another thread someone mentioned this giving some trouble, I uninstalled it.  I'll keep an eye on it to see if the problem comes back.

  • Kernel panics during TM backup

I have been having problems with kernel panics during Time Machine backups and I would like to find out if others have had similar experiences. If this is a problem unique to my configuration, then I need to do more work. If others are having the same issue, then perhaps I just need to wait until a fix is issued.
Some background, I am using TM on two computers, an early 2006 iMac and a first generation Aluminum 15" Powerbook. On the iMac, TM is now very reliable, on the PB, it will ALWAYS kernel panic at least once during a large backup, sometimes 2 or 3 times before it manages to finish the backup. Since I have been playing around with backup disk configurations, I've made several initial backups, so I've also seen quite a few kernel panics, but ONLY when TM is running a large backup.
Are you hit with kernel panics during TM backups? I see some discussion along those lines in this forum.
The most recent initial backup was with Spotlight disabled and it DIDN'T panic. This was unusual. As TM is adding files to the backup disk, Spotlight is busy indexing the new files at the same time. It is possible that the two are not playing well together on the lower performance machines, such as this 1.25 GHz G4. By adding the backup disk to Spotlight's privacy list, Spotlight is inhibited from indexing the backup disk.

For information, this problem appears to be due to some unique problem with my particular computer.
I had been having 2 or 3 kernel panics every day. Finally, I did a Safe Boot and the panics ceased completely. Not one in the last month. Looks like it was some kind of corrupt data that the Safe Boot cleaned up.

  • Pass kernel arguments during install to force sata detection

Is it possible to pass kernel arguments during install of the 0.7.1 noodle base iso? I want the installer to detect my harddisc (with is a pata drive but I have a sata controller in my laptop) as sata. (Needed because of this problem http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=17696)
    Update
I managed to pass the kernel argument (just typed arch hdc=noprobe) but I have to do hdd=noprobe as well because otherwise my harddisc is not recognized at all. But as a result, I'm unable to get my dvd-drive working and for that I'm unable to use the reiserfs to format my root disc. Also my ethernet module can't be loaded so I'm still unable to install
    Solved
Problem solved, I managed to chroot into my install with the install cd (after doing the install but not having installed bootloader) and with passing kernel arguments hdc=noprobe hdd=noprobe I was able to install lilo on sda. I edited fstab and the kernel 2.6.15 handles the disc and the dvd-station very well. So I'm happy

Hmm, I saw that klibc before I installed to the pata drive.  I just ran pacman -Rd klibc before upgrading and had no problems.  Though, since klibc is a dependency of mkinitcpio, I should try removing the symlink rather than the package itself.

  • Frequent kernel panic during boot up

    Hi,
I am having frequent kernel panic during system bootup. It takes atleast 3-5 attempts for the machine to boot-up without a panic. It is not consistent. I have disabled dropbox and removed firefox and chrome which I suspected was causing the problem.
Any idea what could be causing the panic? Once the system boots up, it some times stays up for a long time before a panic happens again.
The error report is below. Let me know what other details are required to trouble shoot this issue.

Thanks for the pointers and suggestions. The system was up and running with out any panics. So I decided to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I was able to download it through App Store and start the installation. Everything went through fine and finally when it had to restart, it took a long time and stopped at the grey screen showing the prohibitory sign.
After waiting for quite a long time decided to hard restart the machine. Same issue. So used the option keys at bootup and went into disk utility.
Verify disk permission threw up some errors. Then Verify Disk started throwing up errors and stopped in between and suggested to run Repair Disk.
When I ran the Repair Disk it threw up an error mid way and said:
Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restor your backed-up files.
I ran Repair Disk again and it went through fine. No issues this time. Ran fix permission option as well. That also went through fine. Then restarted the system.
No use - It still shows the prohibitory sign and progress circle....just stays there....
    Any advice on what next?
    Thanks,
    Sudhir

  • Kernel panic during remote install

i have a mac book air 13 inch from 2008 that upon start up shows kernel panic. i tried everything to get it to run again but to no avail. i decided to reinstall snow leopard, but i lost the usb drive that has it. Using a snowleopard disk from my imac, i tried remote installing over my wireless network. after booting the macbook using the option key and clicking on the snow leopard install disk, it starts to install, but right after showing the spinning globe and the apple symbol the macbook air kernel panics again and tells me to restart the computer. other than bringing the air into the apple store for repair, what else can i do?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Kernel Panics during system boot, and no kind of network connectivity

I've tried quite a lot of things here, so please read them all before you suggest something - and thanks for taking a look at my question (-:
I recently got my Mac Pro back from the AlaskaMacStore (not an actual apple retail store, and they aren't very good at that), having brought it in for loss of FW800. They sent it to Apple, and I received it back, supposedly with a new motherboard - and my FW800 working. However, it proceeded to kernel panic (complete visual system freeze, not greyscreenofdeath - oddly enough, iTunes would never stop playing during them) at least once a day after that.
Not wanting to deal with them again, I just used it like that and put up with it - but soon enough, I lost any sort of network connectivity as well. With AirPort connected to my Time Capsule's network (which worked fine on my Macbook Air and iPhone and various other devices), I was being told "...Self-Assigned IP address, and thus may not be able to connect to the internet...". Even connected directly via Ethernet to the Time Capsule, or directly via Ethernet to the cable modem, or directly via Ethernet to another Mac, or connected to another Mac's ad-hoc network, I could get absolutely no network communication going on of any sort.
This was too much for me, as all of my work requires frequent and heavy internet access, so I gave in and took it back to the local mac store equivalent - they charged me 100$, and kept it two days, just to tell me they 'couldn't reproduce the problem'. I took the Mac Pro to a friend's house, and went through the same tests - connected to his modem, with his Ethernet cords, and to his wireless and other macs. Same deal, no connection or indication of a networking being connected beyond that blasted 'self-assigned IP' in Network prefs.
Having no desire to be defrauded by the local fools again, I decided I didn't really have anything important on my internal hard drive, and decided to wipe the internals and re-install Leopard. My horrible luck continuing, I found my only Leopard disc to be cracked, prompting me to drive out and purchase a new one. Inserting this into my Mac Pro's drive, I found myself faced with yet another horrible problem.
During the boot to the Leopard DVD, the grey loading screen (with the apple logo and the spinner) simply froze with the spinner pointing left. I left it for a while, expecting this to be part of what I'd previously experienced with the slow boot-from-DVD on a Macintosh... but after 30 minutes of waiting, I got quite worried, and booted back into my normal OS by holding down Option and selecting my RAID.
Now, note this for later - it booted absolutely fine, and though I still had no network connectivity, the system had no problems. I changed the startup-disk to my RAID and then back to the Leopard DVD, naïvely thinking this would solve the problem, and ran into the same problem after restarting and booting to the Leopard DVD again.
Dismissing this as a optical drive problem (haven't had occasion to use optical media in nearly 3 years, don't really trust it in general), I booted the Mac Pro into Firewire Target Disk mode, and connected it to my Macbook Pro, and then booted the Macbook Pro from the installation DVD. Again, note carefully here - there was nothing wrong with the DVD itself, as the Macbook Pro had no trouble booting to the DVD.
I used Disk Utility to preform some planned modifications to the internal drives of my Mac Pro (erasing my previous inefficient RAID setup in favor of a new, faster (but less secure) RAID0 striped setup for my main two 1TB drives), and then proceeded to install a fresh Leopard onto the newly minted RAID. I usually cancel the 'disc checksum' that the Leopard DVD runs on itself, not really worrying about it, but in light of recent possible problems with the DVD, I went ahead and let it run - no problems, it completed and went straight into the normal install.
The install itself completed in a timely manner, and my Macbook Pro re-booted automatically, to the newly Leopard-ed RAIDed internals on the Mac Pro. It booted to the new install without a hitch, played the Leopard intro video, and continued to the setup cube. I opted to shut down (by hitting command-q and selecting the shut down option), so I could set it up on the Mac Pro instead.
Surprised was I, when I experienced the same grey loading screen freeze on the Mac Pro, booting to the newly clean install on the new RAID, that I had seen trying to boot to the Leopard disc. Worrying that my Leopard disc was, infact, corrupted in some way, I tried placing the Macbook Pro into firewire Target Disc Mode, and booting that drive over FW800 on the Mac Pro. Same freezing problem occurred.
Well, now, the only installation that HADN'T kernel panicked on boot was the old install, and that had been erased for the new RAID configuration, so I was left without a way to boot to a working install and test things from the Term. This left me with Single User Mode, which I immediately booted into.
Interestingly enough, there was no problem booting into Single User Mode - so I poked around a bit before mounting, and I had seemingly fine access to the entire filesystem of the new Leopard install, and nothing looked screwed up to my (albiet untrained) eye. After mounting and continuing the boot, it froze - but since this was verbose SUM, and not simple normal boot, I was able to see exactly where it froze: something about 'mDNSResponder starting', and then no input or output was accepted, leaving me assuming it had kernel panicked again.
To test this, I again attempted to boot from the Leopard DVD on the Mac Pro, this time in verbose startup mode, and watched it freeze up at exactly the same point. After a little googling, I found some suggestions to disable the launchd plist for mDNSResponder - I tried SUM again, and did so, then continued with the boot. This time, there was no output relating to mDNSResponder, so the launchd change had worked; however, it still froze - this time, right after three lines, first something along the lines of 'Login Window Application Starting', and then two lines printing Ethernet IDs of some sort. After those Ethernet related lines, it again froze.
What with the DNS and Ethernet bits showing up in the freezing, I was getting worried this was still tied into my NIC in some way, so I unplugged my Ethernet cords and tried the exact same boot again, and again disabled mDNSResponder. This time the only sensible thing before the freeze was the 'Login Window Application Starting' line, which seemed perfectly normal. I doubt there is/was anything wrong with that, so I'm assuming there's still some networking-related process freezing/panicking the computer, and it just doesn't happen to log in a visible way during startup.
Does anybody have any suggestion as to what such a process might be, and how I can at least pause or kill it from SUM, so I can at least finish booting the computer?
If I can't figure out a solution to this, I'll have to buy a new Mac Pro tomorrow morning... I have very, very pressing matters that can't wait for a new Mac Pro to ship, nor can they wait for me to ship this one to Apple and back (I live in Alaska, we have at least a weeks wait if nothing is seriously wrong when sending an Apple product in for repairs on our own), and nor can I wait 2 days for the local Apple store to tell me there's nothing wrong with it and then have to wait another week to, again, send it to Apple myself. I don't want to have to shell out for a new, expensive computer when there's a (most likely) perfectly good one sitting here... so any help would be MUCH appreciated.
If you've read this far, phew, you deserve a cookie. That was one... long... post.
(If you care, this post was cross-posted to my blog, at http://blog.elliottcable.name/posts/macpro_epicfail.xhtml)

    Talk about bad luck.
The point at which the system "freezes" with the gray spinner (and just after the login window app starts) is right about the point the accelerated drivers should kick in for the video card.
So a couple things could be going on.
    1) bad video card dragging down the bus
    2) The system board is fubar - this I think is likely - issues with onboard ethernet, and whats seems to be video card related.
I would hazard to guess that the PCI-express bus has something wrong with it, ethernet and video live on the bus, SATA, and USB live in the southbridge.
So, looks like a trip to a certified apple dealer/repair center is next for your Mac Pro - probably for a new system board, again?
Something tells me that your system really didn't get to Apple for a new board.
You can verify by looking at the serial ID tag on the system board, note the rev and serial # before and after such repairs.

  • Macbook kernel panic during boot + other kernel panics! HELP PLEASE

    Hello,
I have a w macbook 2,0 ghz duo (2006 edition), 2gb ram, original HD. Operating system: Tiger OsX (updated).
A couple of weeks ago my mb started to display (during a normal session and even after a stand-by) a big message on screen "Please hold down the power button to restart your computer" etc = kernel panic message.
I took a look at the panic.log file and it said:
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: firefox-bin
So I thought there was something with firefox and, to resolve definetely this problems, I checked my hd using utility then I tried to install Leopard using the DVD(updated again). After installing Leopard I did not receive kernel panic errors related to firefox-bin thread but now I still have kernel panic problems.
    These are the error messages:
    1. When I boot up the mb, it shows the "restart" message or it FREEZES (doesn't boot up)
    2. The log says that the panic error is related to "ACPI" and Io.apple.firewirefamily (what is it???)
    3. The panic.log file just says:

  • [SOLVED] Random kernel panics during boot (Waiting for UDev uevents..)

Update 2012-03-31: Workaround confirmed to work, see tenthirteen's post.
Update 2012-02-03: I've narrowed down the problem to the 3.x kernels. Downgrading to kernel26-2.6.38.5-1, with the other packages up-to-date (using nouveau instead of nvidia driver), solves the problem. Still, I still consider this a problem since it forces me to use an older kernel, so if anyone has any idea how to find the problem I would be very thankful!
When I came back home after the summer vacations I did a huge upgrade with pacman -Syu (of course I read the announcements before). This included linux (3.0.3-1) from kernel26 (2.6.38.5-1) and udev (167-2 -> 173-3). After this point, the boot process randomly fails from time to time; today I had to restart more than 20 times before my machine would boot successfully.
It always occurs during "Waiting for UDev uvents to be processed". Some of the errors are:
    1. The computer freezes when the message is shown (cursor stops to blink).
    2. Nothing happens for a long time, then Waiting for UDev uvents to be processed [ FAIL ]s.
    3. Short and long error messages that look similar to this guy's (except for the last line).
I greped for some of the error messages in /var/log but they don't seem to be logged, so the examples below are from my handwritten notes and thus not very complete (there are a lot of other error messages except these lines). It's also possible that there are some mistakes. Note that they're from different boots.
    BUG: Soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 23 s! [modprobe:256]
    BUG: Unable to handle kernel

BUG: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000286
BUG: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)
These errors are seemingly arbitrary which makes it very hard to find the problem. Sometimes it works without a single complaint, sometimes it says something about "No caching mode page present, Assuming drive cache: write through", and sometimes I get different errors (the examples above are only from today!). As you can imagine, it gets pretty annoying.
    So far I've tried to:
    * Use the fallback mode - nope.
    * Rerun mkinitcpio -p linux - nope.
    * Append noapic and nomodeset to the kernel in GRUB - nope.
    * Install and try kernel26-lts - seems to work, although I don't understand what other differences there are (e.g., it doesn't start X). At least this seems to suggest that it's not a hardware problem.
    * Unplug all USB devices before boot - sometimes works, sometimes not. Doesn't seem to be a direct connection.
    * Remove my custom settings in /etc/modprobe.d - nope.
    * A lot of other things I've forgotten.
Edit: I forgot to mention, once it's booted, the system works perfectly fine. No kernel panics etc. That's the second reason why I suspect it's not a hardware failure.
I've been thinking about trying to downgrade the kernel and udev, but with the renaming and all dependencies I'm not sure how to do that.
Since I've run out of ideas how to troubleshoot this issue, I would appreciate if I could get some suggestions here. I've search around and found similar posts but no solution that works for me.

I've temporarily fixed the problem by doing the following:
    removed cryptsetup (1.3.1-2)
    removed lvm2 (2.02.88-1)
    removed mdadm (3.2.2-4)
    removed linux (3.0.6-2)
    upgraded mkinitcpio-busybox (1.18.5-1 -> 1.18.2-1)
    installed gen-init-cpio (2.6.36-1)
    upgraded udev (173-3 -> 167-2)
    upgraded mkinitcpio (0.7.3-1 -> 0.6.11-1)
    installed kernel26 (2.6.38.5-1)
    upgraded nvidia-173xx-utils (173.14.31-1 -> 173.14.30-1)
    upgraded nvidia-173xx (173.14.31-2 -> 173.14.30-1)
    upgraded initscripts (2011.07.3-1 -> 2011.04.1-2)
    upgraded net-tools (1.60.20110819cvs-1 -> 1.60-18)
    I also restored my old /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, /etc/inittab and /etc/rc.conf.
I'm still interested in a solution to the original problem. Is it a problem with my configuration, the new kernel, the udev version or something else?
The difference in inittab is just a -s option and the mkinitcpio.conf files are the same except for some comments. rc.conf has the biggest changes and is now (removed comments):

  • Kernel panic after installing a USB 3.0 PCIe card

    Hello everybody,
I have a recent issue with my Mac Pro (early 2008). I just bought a USB 3.0 PCIe card from eBay for my Mac Pro and as the seller mentioned there are drivers for Mountain Lion. After installing the cards drivers that the seller sent me and plugged the PCIe card, whenever I connect a USB 3.0 device (I have only one) the Mac Pro is forced to reboot. If I leave the drive connected after the reboot I get a kernel panic message during the "Grey Apple Boot Screen" and the computer continues to reboot again and again. I have no issues with USB 2.0 devices at the same card. The kernel I get is the following. Does anyone have any idea? it seems like the kext installed with the card {net.osx86.kexts.VLIUSBXHCI(1.2.4)} causes the problem but the seller told me he has sold a lot of them, and i 'm the first with such a problem.
    Thank you in advance.
