"fault, registers" genreally indicate a bad module or incompatible modules.
Your 2010 Mac Mini 4,1 uses
PC3-8500 DDR3
unbuffered
non-parity
204-pin module
1066 MHz
If you have upgrade it with different RAM, then you need to reinstall the original RAM modules and order the correct ones.
Or if you have not upgrade the RAM, the you may have a bad module that needs to be replaced.
For quality RAM upgrades, go to either OWC macsales.com or Crucial.com and order RAM for a Mid 2010 Mac Mini.

  • 1-2 Kernel panics a day after 10.5.7 update

After updating to 10.5.7 I'm getting 1-2 kernel panics per day. I have tried the following:
    * Downloaded 10.5.7 combo and reinstalled
    * Run the memory test by booting up on the CD that came with the machine
    * Run disk utility and verirified the hard disk is ok
    * Repaired all permissions
    * Reset the PRAM by pressing Command, Option, P, and R during boot up
None of the above has worked.
The kernel panic occurs during various processes but the log always says the following:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(76.0.0)@0xb11000->0xb2ffff
Below is one example of the panic log.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

I'm guessing something is corrupted assuming it's not a hardware problem. I would try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Kernel Panic GPU-related after 10.8.4 update

    Hello,
I would appreciate some help. Since I updated to Mac Os X 10.8.4, I'm experimenting kernel panics on my Macbook Air (2011). I think it's a GPU-related issue.

The kexts don't seem to referenciate any third party software. It looks like I've problems with the GPU and/or iPhoto, but I don't understand this kind of things properly. I must point here that, before the update, I don't have any problemas at all. Also, I've seen in the support forums that there are bugs on Nvidia graphic cards in Mountain Lion. So... my questions are: a) Is this some kind of bug? b) Can I do something to solve this issue (I've already checked Activity Monitor, reset PRAM, repaired permissions, erased Macintosh HD and restored my hard drive... without results)? c) Could you help me?
    Thanks!

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Kernel panic upon shutdown after 10.5.2 update caused by virusscan 8.6

Hi I am wondering if anyone has experienced kernel panic due to virusscan manager (virusscan 8.6)
    especially during shutdown.
    I have had 4 panics since I went 10.5.2

The panics don't occur every time I shutdown It happens once in two days. This doesnt happen on my wife's computer the only differnece is hers is the latest 2.2Ghz model running 10.5.2 with just a single user mine is the mid 2007 mb 2.0 ghz with two users.
I run the virusscan as I am expected to run it If I have to use my mac in my school.

  • Kernel panic on startup after 10.6.8 update

My 12-core 2010 Mac Pro was OK until I updated to 10.6.8 I get this error message "Unable to find driver for this plateform: ACPI.
Any idea ?? I tried disk utility, zapping PRAM, safe boot... Did not help.

    To start try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Next download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo and reinstall using this updater.

  • Kernel panic on startup after Software Update

My mother's iBook G4 is unable to startup due to a kernel panic that began after the last software update.
On boot, the computer goes to the kernel panic (You need to restart your computer) screen after a few seconds of the Apple logo screen. It cannot boot in Safe Mode or Single User mode (it hangs after reporting system uptime.)
It can boot into Target Disk mode.
The iBook updated its software (Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 6, Security Update 2009-006, HP Printer Drivers Update 1.1.1 and Safari 4.0.4) yesterday, then restarted and kernel panicked.
This happened to my girlfriend's PowerBook right after an update too, and because she didn't have her system disks, I asked my Mom to send her copy of 10.5 to me from SF to Portland. Now, the same thing has happened while I was in SF, and the system disk is in Portland (meaning I don't have an OS disk.)
Is there some way to fix this? I have full access to the disk on the iBook through a FireWire cable and target disk mode on my MacBook Pro (but disk utility can't check permissions.) Seems that I should be able to fix it somehow. Ideas?

Install the combo update that you can download from the Apple download site at http://www.apple.com/downloads/ . Sometimes the software update function doesn't install the updates correctly, causing just odd behaviors. The combo update has all prior updates from that OS X version included. If possible, it's good to repair permissions before and after the combo update.

  • Kernel panic on first boot after 10.6.8 update

    Hi,
    Here are the fact:
    1) I systematically get a kernel panic on first boot after an attempt to update to 10.6.8 (was able to revert to 10.6.7 using Time Machine; now I'm running my tests on a clone). While doing the update, there are NO USB connexion to my laptop, nor ethernet connexion. Only the power cable.
    2) I DO NOT use the software Hands Off which is known to cause such an issue
    3) I've tested this on two different hard drive (with a clone of my system)
    4) I disabled all third app on startup just to be sure this wasn't a conflict problem
    5) After a kernel panic, I'm always able to boot in safe mode
    6) I did try both the normal update and the combo update (same result)
Now I'm kinda stuck. The next test I'm thinking performing is to update while in safe mode. But I don't know if it will help.
And yes, my permissions are all fine. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I believe I need to be in 10.6.8 in order to update to Lion?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Parneix

    Hi,
Sorry about that. Below you'll find the log of my latest kernel panic.
I did follow instructions suggested by user "ds store". The only "kext" file that I've got (by running the commands in the Terminal) was related to the software LittleSnitch. I downloaded it again in order to run the uninstaller. I'll try again to update to 10.6.8 under those conditions and report here.

  • Random kernel panic at boot

    Hello guys,
I recently installed Arch to my GF's laptop because she wanted to learn some stuff about how to use it, how it works etc... Unfortunately, there are some (seems like) random kernel panics at boot, I haven't found if it's related to some event or not because I've been trying to reboot it 10x in a row or after a whole day of usage etc. to find out if it's caused by some action but it still seems to be random during the boot. Inspecting the stack trace confused me even more because it doesn't look same with each panic. I captured 3 of them for example (sorry, haven't found a way to get them in text format since they are not stored on disk :-/ ):

Reinstalling the system didn't helped (tried it like 3x), current system is fresh fully updated arch that I installed 2 days ago, There's only basic system with KDE, opensource ati drivers, cpufreq and blacklisted modules (pcspkr, bluetooth, toshiba_bluetooth), I made no other modifications (hopefully) which may affect the system boot.
    Here is the system info:

  • Kernel panics during boot and other fun

It started a few weeks ago when my iMac G5 wouldn't wake up from sleep (it had to be restarted). Last week I started getting random kernel panics, and yesterday after one such panic it would no longer boot.
Also last week the computer beeped three times instead of the normal boot sound, although that only happened once.
Usually it will get a kernel panic or simply freeze during the Apple logo/pinwheel screen. Sometimes it will crash before the screen even comes on (denoted by loud fans). A few times it froze on the blue screen.
I took out the RAM and reseated it, but that didn't solve anything. It is the original RAM that came with the computer, so that's probably not the problem. I zapped the PRAM, and that didn't help, nor did starting in Safe Mode. I guess I'll try booting from the Leopard disc next.
Any idea what this might be, and if I can fix it without bringing it in for service?

Thank you for your reply BDAqua.
Yes I ran short and the Extended Test. All pass. One of the first things I did is Safe Boot several times I also repaired permissions. Safe boot takes no longer than before the crashes and as long as I stay in safe boot mode it won't crash. What does that mean?I also ran MacJanitor and removed the SCCUZI card Apple put in when I bought the G4 as well as an M-Audio Delta 66 card which I do not use (both) anymore. I also started up on an external firewire drive 10.4.6. It also (crashes) does the same thing.
I was hoping somebody understands the crash report I enclosed? Isn't that suppose to say what went wrong?
Thank you again for your input BDAqua

  • Mac Mini (CoreSolo) kernel panics every night like clockwork

My new CoreSolo mini seems to kernel panic every night. Each morning, i find it displaying the 'reboot your computer' screen. The system.log is not particularly illuminating:
    Apr 10 23:32:36 the-computer mdimportserver[780]: NSDataMessageStore: couldn't find body

    Apr 11 11:35:20 localhost kernel[0]: PAE enabled
Apr 11 11:35:20 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
Basically, the last thing on the log last night was me putting it to sleep at 1:38AM, and then me at 11:35AM the next morning rebooting it because it was frozen.
This has happened almost every day this week. I have to hold down the power button to get it to shut off before rebooting.
I've run memtest in single user mode on the RAM (2GB), and it has passed over 7 runs without a hitch.
Any ideas? I'm already thinking of getting Apple to exchange this unit due to excessive fan noise, so maybe this is related. Overheating?

The one thing about lion preinstalled is, You can run disk utilities from the restore partition by holding down the R key at startup or run aht by holding down the D key at startup. And it's still under warranty for a year after purchase. If all else fails you can do a restore. If the apple store gets it, that's most likely what they will do. So you'd have to backup anything you want to keep.

  • Kernel Panic every time I plug in my external drive

I'm getting kernel panics every time I plug in an external drive. This is happening on a MacBook Pro as well as on a Mac Mini (G4). Both are running 10.5.6.
The drive is one of the Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB drives that are having all sorts of other problems. I have it in a CoolMax USB 2.0 enclosure (this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159076) I've been using this setup for a couple of weeks and didn't have any problems until this morning when I consistently get this kernel panic.
Obviously I can't run Disk Utility on it, unless there's a way to plug it in without it automounting. I could boot my MBP to XP, but the drive has two partitions and both are HFS+. Ideally I would like to preserve the data on the drive. They're only backups, but I don't have access to the originals at the moment, as my main machine is out of commission. Lots of hardware problems lately.
    Any ideas?

Ha, you're right, I didn't even notice that.

  • Please help me! I have kernel panic on boot

    Greetings.
I have to be honest with you and tell you that I have a problem with my iMac computer. I'm a big fan of Apple products, especially Mac computers. I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where there is no Apple store, and that's why I bought my iMac computer in Croatia that was used that had a "kernel panic" error. After several failed attempts I managed to install "hazard OSX Snow Leopard" and the computer boots up normally but when it goes to shutdown freezes and shows "kernel panic" and says "you need to restart your computer." When I installed OSX everything is working normally, but I have no sound, the computer continues to shutdown shows "kernel panic" or "system uptime in nanoseconds ..." freeze. I bought the original OSX Snow Leopard DVD because I want to have a legal iMac computer and legal software on it. When i try to boot from original "OSX Snow Leopard" i get "kernel panic" fast after Apple logo appears. I try other discs but i get same problem. I try reset pram, nvram, SMC, i try another HDD and no help. I bought 2 original memory sticks  2x2Gb in Germany and when i put one or both , turn on Imac but no startup chime and no picture.
Please help me solve this problem. thanks
    My iMac computer configuration is:
6.1 iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo 24 "White
    S.N. W8******VGP
    Memory: 3GB, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.2
    <Edited by Host>

I did all the tests with the program Tech Tool Pro and post pictures to see if everything is fine with my iMac computer. If there is still any advice please help me. I installed Snow Leopard Biohazard and boots properly except when off or reboot blue screen freeze up and only one point where the mouse is.

  • 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 - Kernel Panic on Boot with Filevault

My filevaulted systems are having kernel panic on boot with both 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 updates.  I have to connect the time capsule to get it to boot and fix disk permissions before I can pull the firewire out and reboot by itself.
    Anyone else?

Hi, Brian. I had only keyboard and mouse plugged into USB. I variously had a pair of LaCie 1TB drives in the FW800 in daisychain.
It is now working again after running the single-user mode scripts from Leopard Cache Cleaner.
It may arise again, but the initial cause remains mysterious, the intermediate cause perhaps being a polluted boot cache. I'm hoping I'm good from here. (fingers crossed)

  • Kernel Panic When Booting with Install DVD

I get a kernel panic when booting from the OSX 4 (tiger) install DVD. I am using a Quad G-5 with 8 gigs of ram.

Have to ask what version your Quad came with, whether same DVD you are using now. Apple now has Tiger DVDs w/ 10.4.6 for sale.
When booting, or when you get to the screen to select Languages on the initial screen (before you can select DU or Installer etc)?
How about Option booting to Apple Hardware Test and running extended test?
Did you run memtest or anything when you installed RAM (assuming you didn't buy it BTO w/ 8GB).
Any time adding or changing hardware, including memory, it is either a good policy or essential in some cases to boot into Open Firmware (command option of) on startup and type "reset-nvram" and 'reset-all" after installing. Same for PCIe or even swapping out disk drive (where sometimes a drive won't show up or allow you to partition).
