Kernel Panic - imac rebooting please help?
Hello
My 2009 iMac continues to reboot due to kernel panic during the past couple of week. It happes several times a day. I cannot find any specific cause and it seems to happen randomly. That is even when the computer is on standby. I hvae searched the web, but cannot find a solution. The problem is getting worse.
I have tried apple hardware test that detected no problems. I have upgraded the imac last yaer with a Samsung SSD and its running 6 gb ram. It has worked flawless until now. Should I consider buying a new Imac?
Here is the log:

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall those, one at a time.. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember. See

Stuck with kernel panic, iMac reboots constantly
A couple of days ago I got a kernel panic when I tried to switch on my iMac, i.e. I got this screen: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392
I rebooted, got the same message again before I could do much.
There was a stuck DVD, so I could not even try to boot from DVD and run a hardware check.
I searched online, and somebody had written that this problem was fixed after changing a keyboard. I tried that, and it booted OK, was able to eject the disk, and THEN I got a kernel panic message. I rebooted and was able to work a bit, make a time machine backup, etc.
Yesterday the kernel panic appeared again. I inserted the MacOS Install disk 1, to make a hardware check, but after rebooting, the machine cycled rebooting and rebooting and rebooting.
Sometimes I got a kernel panic message, but not in most cases. It seems that the problem lies before I can choose the boot mode, since I cannot do it from disk, target mode, eject disk, etc...
Today I booted without keyboard-mouse connected, and it was OK. Soon after I connected the (new) keyboard & mouse, I got a kernel panic. After rebooting it was same story: it reboots automatically every 10 seconds or so...
I also tried resetting the PRAM (last resort from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2238 ), and it seems to me that the boot sound is louder, but keeps on rebooting the same...
I just have one RAM chip that came with the computer, so it's not some RAM incompatibility...
Any ideas?
Even if there is a way of ejecting the disk, that might help, I could try to restore the system a few days back with time machine, or run some updates, in case it is a software problem... Otherwise it seems it is a hardware problem...Can you boot from the restore disk and use the Disk Utility app to check the disk for errors?
Restart your Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your restore disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities > Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
Resolving Kernel Panics
Try ejecting the disk by booting while holding down the mouse, or, boot while holding the Eject key on the keyboard.

Kernel Panic When Printing -- Please Help
I used to have the Kernel Panic problem all the time because I stupidly did not keep my computer on a hard surface. Once I started leaving it directly on my desk, the kernel panic subsided.
Now it's back. Every time I try to print something, a few pages print, followed by Kernel Panic (my screen darkens with symbol of the power button and error message tells me to restart my computer). I have 23.1 GB left on my hard drive (out of 120). I don't think this is the problem but I figured I'd mention it anyways.
Last time this happened, I had all other applications closed. The only thing open was the printing que and kernel panic still happened.
Please, please help me. I just started school and I really need to be able to print things and not have my computer shut off every time. Thanks so much!
My printer is an HP Photosmart C6380 all-in-one.Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it more than you know! Here's actually my most recent three kernel panic attacks (with the most recent at the very bottom). If you could diagnose what's going on with my computer, that would be so amazing! Any advice you have... my apple care recently expired so I am feeling a little hopeless :(!
Thank you!!!

Hi, just now my computer just popped out an error message saying that "You need to restart your computer". I was able to power the iMac back (and i'm typing from my iMac). I did some research about it and it has something to do with the kernel panic..either hardware or software. Since i was able to power back my iMac, i supposed it was software-related problem? Here's the log from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
I'm sorry it was quite long and i have no idea how to attach the text file which i have saved. What could be the problem here? And any suggestions to avoid this from happening again? My heart skipped a beat just now.. Hopefully it was no something serious such as hardware problems..
thank you!

Kernel Panic in Japan - Please Help!
Hi all,
I just recently moved to Japan and my wife and I just bought iPhones 2 days ago. Before the Kernel message came, I was getting messages on the computer that read that 'sync' something was having trouble and did I want to report the problem?... etc. I assumed that it had something to do with mobile me which we just started working with a few days ago. So I wondered if I needed to update the software. I started to do so and it asked me to restart. After I restart it tells me that it needs a start up disk or something like that... what I usually do at this point is restart the computer and hold down the option key, which is what I did... then something new happened. This popped up:

So here I am. 5 days old in Japan (I'll be here for 3 years). I'm hoping that I'll get some info here on how to fix it myself. Otherwise I have to take it into the Tokyo store which is very very far away.
Thanks for looking,
ChrisHI Chris,
Kernel panics are sometimes causes by hardware issues. Probably a good idea at this point to check the boot disk for errors.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Select your disk, and click First Aid.
Click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairs, do one of the following:
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk.
Checking a hard disk to see if it’s going to fail
You can check the health of your hard disk by checking its Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) status in Disk Utility. Most disk drives include S.M.A.R.T. hardware. Developed by IBM, S.M.A.R.T. hardware allows hard disks to test themselves for potential problems.
Starting up in “safe mode” may help you to diagnose problems you’re having with your computer.
To start up in safe mode:
Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after your hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.

If the boot disk appears to be ok, you could try installing the 10.5.6 combo update available here;

I would also consider Download and install AppleJack - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Read the documentation then use the software according to its instructions. AppleJack will repair permissions, the hard drive, and remove some caches.

Macbook pro kernel panic cant startup please help..please!
MY MAC BOOK pro just had a kernel panic for no apparant reason, happened after i installed the new itunes, and then i got the weird white letter on black screen that said kernel panic among other things. sometimes i cant even get that, after the grey apple the screen goes blank
1. im in sweden and they said at the apple care place there is a 3 week wait, which is unreal.
2. how likely is it that i lost my data?
3. i dont have my install disc, is there any advice anyone can give me?You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
Since you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

Kernal Panic: iMac 2011: Please help.
Hi, everyone,
A few months ago, a friend's iMac started to crash during random events. Sometimes while on Facebook, sometimes while just surfing the Internet, and sometimes just word processing. I wrote about it in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19560212?ac_cid=op123456#19560212
He brought it to Apple Genius at Apple Store here in town. The Genius ran it through a series of hardware checks and a stress test and couldn't recreate the issue. His only advice was "to shut down once in a while."
Sure enough, the panics continued to happen, always for a different reason. I finally suggested to my friend after some tests from the above thread, to do a Erase and Install of the operating system. This seemed to have fix the issue, but sure enough, the panics resurfaced. Yesterday, the machine had four panics in one day. At this point, I think my friend should take it back to the Apple Store, speak with a Genius and ask them to review all these logs. Basically, making sure he doesn't leave the store until they agree to take a real look at the computer. At this point, he has 10 to 12 crash logs. Here is the latest one:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair. The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.

PowerBook G4 12" kernel panic on reboot.
Hello all.
I've recently obtained a PowerBook G4 12" (1.33 GHz) and I've installed Tiger on it.
I noticed it kernel panics on reboot and not a shutdown THEN reboot. (or in technical terms, a "cold book.")
I've also tried installing Leopard on it, but it runs very slugishly, but here's the catch: It doesn't kernel panics on reboot.
Another thing is that the kernel panic is linked to the AirPort Extreme Card. I repaired permissions and ran AHT, no problems found.
Could anybody help me figure this out?Can you post some of your crash logs? Might be a clue. See Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546
Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060309075929717
Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

Cheers, Tom -
Weekly Crashes, Kernel Panics, Freezes, Reboot, Shut Downs, HELP!
I've posted this problem everywhere but no one seems to care or have anything useful to say, so I'm asking you guys now.
_My current situation:_
I have a Unibody MacBook Pro 15 inch, 2.53 GHz, 4GB RAM, bought in Late 2008, so it's the first generation of Unibodies.
It came with Leopard and *everything was perfect and wonderful, until I upgraded to Snow Leopard*.
Since then, approximately once or twice a week, I get various problems that involve a hard reset of the computer. This is sometimes a *complete freeze, a spontaneous reboot, a power-off without warning, or a kernel panic*. So sometimes the computer will reboot on its own, sometimes it will power off without rebooting, and sometimes it just freezes requiring me to power it off by holding the power button.
For example, the problem I just had 10 minutes ago can be described as follows:
The mouse suddenly moves a lot faster than usual, and seems to freeze from time to time. The Skype audio conversation I am having still works perfectly fine. I try to click, press exposé, but nothing reacts. The mouse reacts to movement, but moves way too fast. Then, all of a sudden, the last bit of audio from Skype keeps *looping forever*, and everything has frozen, including the mouse. Then the computer goes black and starts to reboot automatically.
This has happened many times before. Often, the computer would start to reboot (totally on its own), I would hear the startup chime, and then it would go black again, and start booting *all over again*.
Sometimes the screensaver just freezes, with random thick grey horizontal lines scanning and flickering across the screen. It won't react to anything, even the Caps Lock key won't light up when pressed.
I have noticed that these problems only seem happen when I am using the *9600M graphics card*. Not when using the 9400M. This is not for sure, as I rarely use the 9400M.
However, before you say it's a graphics card failure, let me just clarify that NONE of this happened on Leopard for a year. Absolutely nothing. Now I don't believe that by coincidence, my graphics card failed for no reason right on the day I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I have talked with a genius and all he could say that he has no idea and that there's nothing he can do. He said it could be RAM or it could be the graphics card, but that's just based on what I told him. He could take the machine for some time and run tests on it, but I can't live without my computer at the moment, it is crucial for my studies, I'd rather have it crash every 4 days than not have a computer at all for a few days.
_What I have tried so far:_
I have run the basic Apple Hardware Test, I haven't run the Extended one yet.
I used Tech Tool Pro's non-booting interface and it shows no problems.
I repaired permissions more times that the number of atoms in the universe.
I checked the hard drive for errors using Disk Utility, nothing.
I will try reinstalling Snow Leopard if the upcoming 10.6.3 update doesn't solve the problem.
*Then I will reinstall Leopard.*
Until then, can anyone think of anything that could help? I'm looking for SOFTWARE related issues, not hardware. If my problem is hardware, I'm doomed, as I am out of warranty, and I'm NOT paying any amount of money to fix this as I've only bought this super expensive computer a year and a half ago.
So, please help me. I'm very annoyed. My 8 year old Pentium III with Windows 2000 is more stable than this. Here are two extracts from the Console.app, both generated during the time of two separate crashes, I would like someone who knows anything about the Console messages to have a look through it and check what's similar in both of them, and maybe point to what may be the cause. I found that each time there's something about "64 bit mode enabled" and also something like "launchd[1] has started up". I don't know what these mean but all I know is that these messages were generated during at least two crashes. The way the last two crashes happened were as follows: the mouse started being over sensitive, as I moved my finger over the trackpad, the pointer moved way too fast compared to normally. I could not click anything, and the rest of the screen was frozen, except for the strange mouse pointer. The Skype conversation in the background was still working fine, except that the person reported not seeing me anymore on the webcam. My green iSight light was still on though. Then the mouse froze and in one case the system rebooted on its own, in another case I had to do it manually.
Here are the two logs:

IMac 5K random kernel panics and rebooting
My brand new iMac 5k (I received 10 days ago) is randomly freezing, then showing kernel panic message and rebooting itself. It happens almost everyday at work with no apparent reason. Already tried reinstallling OS X, SMC and PRAM reset with no luck. The iMac is configured to never sleep, and it happens while using it, so no related with wake-up problems I read everywhere.
it's a maxed out iMac 5K (i7, 32GB of RAM, 3TB FD and the 295X 4GB VRAM) with updated Yosemite.
No peripherals attached (except an external USB 3.0 Lacie hard drive with video files for editing), no uncommon sofrware installed (only Final, Avid, Adobe Suite and Skype, Dropbox, etc.) and still happening randomly.
I had a chat with AppleCare and they told me I have 2 options:
- Taking it to service for revision.
- Asking for a refund or replacement.
Of course, I will not take it to revision (it's brand new!), but I don't know if ask for refund or replacement for a new one, because I readed too many iMac 5K users with similar problems. Does anyone knows if it is a common problem with iMacs 5K? If I ask for a replacement and still happens, can I ask then for a refund? The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
Kernel Panics at Startup. HELP PLEASE!
Hi,
My recently bought 17 inch, 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac started to show an erratic behavior, At startup it loads great the nice chime and everything, but, as soon as the Apple logo appears the Kernel Panic window pops up. It has appeared in all of the startups.
Yes, SMU, PRAM, both done without success, and I actually booted from the Mac OS X cd and worked. I dont know what happened since its not used by me, I have my MacBook and the iMac is for my sister and my mom, no idea if they did something bad to it (if they did they probably didint know since they are newbies to mac). My guess is I have to re-install the software but they will loose their 5000+ photos so...
This has never happened to me in my several years of joy with mac, so i guess one of you geniuses has the solution to these.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance
-VictorIf your sure that you followed the instructions from the Testing and repairing your startup disk link I gave above.
1. Start up your computer using another disk.
To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc and restart your computer holding down the Option key, then select the Install Mac OS X disc and click the arrow.
2. Open Disk Utility.
In the Mac OS X Installer, choose Utilities > Open Disk Utility.
3. Select the startup disk you want to repair in the list of disks and volumes, then click First Aid.
4. Click the button to verify or repair the disk or disk permissions.
The ram would be the next thing to check. Slide them gently in untill you feel them stop, then push hard with your thumbs untill you feel them click or seat into place. You will know by the feel when they are seated correctly!

Kernel Panic... And it has me in panic!! Please help.
Hi there. I am hoping someone has dealt with this and can help. From what I can tell my computer (Imac G5) is having Kernel Panic, it displays the "you need to restart your computer" in many languages when I try to start it up.
I have tried to turn off my login items, reinstall the mac os X, have done the disk utility, done the Apple hardware test, put the reinstall disc in and held down C key, restarted while holding down the keys for PRAM and everything has not worked. Finally I took it to Mac Genius bar and he ran the test and everything seemed to pass, he erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system and his comment was "This *****". He said that it could be harddrive, logic board or power supply. It starts up fine in Safe Mode and is fine.
Has anyone had this happen, could it be the logic board? I heard that can be $800 and am trying to find out if that is the cause. Thank you so much to anyone that can provide any guidance!!!After going down a checklist of things and reinstalling OS and erasing everything on my computer and running hardware tests and taking it to the Mac bar and everything else. I finally broke down and took it to a third party Mac repair shop. It was $75 to have it looked at. I got the call today expecting it to be $800 to repair and to my surprise it was only going to be $75... and why was that... because the airport card was loose!!! That was it. I am relieved that that was all it was, but I went through a week worth of worry and completely erasing my computer to find that out. I would hope the Mac genius' would look at this and take it into consideration in the future when looking at someones computer. Thanks for the help Barry and MGW
