Kernel Panic in Lion after every boot up
http://www.mediafire.com/?8r8y6bz0vsy4803
Anybody know what's up with my installation? I just upgraded my 2011 MBP through app store from newest Snow Leopard, everything updated (I think) - to Lion, and I can only boot in safe mode so far...Kernel Panic list in the link above
Start by uninstalling the software responsible for these extensions. Or you can boot into Safe Mode which will disable third-party extensions to see if that stops the panics. Most likely your problem is incompatible software.

[OSS-worked-around] Kernel modules being unzipped after every reboot?
I've been having this issue for a while, but didn't bother to track it down until now...
Every time I log into my desktop environment (xfce4, xfwm, through slim) the process monitor widget shows one full core of CPU usage for almost a minute after the desktop loads. I open it up to look at what's going on, and immediately after I update oss it is gcc rebuilding those modeles, but every other time it appears to be running a whole bunch of "sh gunzip <path to various places in the kernel tree>". Now, I update fairly regularly and generally only reboot after an update, but I checked it and this happens after every boot even if I haven't recently updated anything.
Is there a reason for this? I would think that it should cache these unzipped modules so it doesn't take up a full core for a minute every boot, but I could be wrong, since I can't find any reference to this anywhere online...
Last edited by cshake (2013-05-27 01:02:19)I haven't done anything custom that I know of - installed fresh around 2 years ago and have kept it updated since, (through the migration from sysv to systemd, sysvinit is completely gone now and the -compat package has been removed) everything through pacman (yaourt) and a few through AUR (like dropbox and skype at one point, though skype is gone now). I have to use OSS for sound because of the chipset (alsa doesn't find the headphone jack), and that likes to compile itself after an update, but I expected that.
Where could I find what is making this happen? In the startup manager for xfce4 the only auto-started applications are network manager applet, power manager, xscreensaver daemon, and policykit. I don't save sessions between boots, so nothing extra starts from there. Nothing is started in the .xinitrc besides startxfce4. In /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants there's acpid.service, dcron.service, laptop-mode.service, ModemManager.service, NetworkManager.serice, ntpd.serivice, oss.service, remote-fs.target, sshdgenkeys.service, sshd.service.
I guess this gets moved to newbie corner, because I'm clearly missing something... -
Kernel panic on startup after Software Update
My mother's iBook G4 is unable to startup due to a kernel panic that began after the last software update.
On boot, the computer goes to the kernel panic (You need to restart your computer) screen after a few seconds of the Apple logo screen. It cannot boot in Safe Mode or Single User mode (it hangs after reporting system uptime.)
It can boot into Target Disk mode.
The iBook updated its software (Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 6, Security Update 2009-006, HP Printer Drivers Update 1.1.1 and Safari 4.0.4) yesterday, then restarted and kernel panicked.
This happened to my girlfriend's PowerBook right after an update too, and because she didn't have her system disks, I asked my Mom to send her copy of 10.5 to me from SF to Portland. Now, the same thing has happened while I was in SF, and the system disk is in Portland (meaning I don't have an OS disk.)
Is there some way to fix this? I have full access to the disk on the iBook through a FireWire cable and target disk mode on my MacBook Pro (but disk utility can't check permissions.) Seems that I should be able to fix it somehow. Ideas? Is there some way to fix this? Install the combo update that you can download from the Apple download site at http://www.apple.com/downloads/ . Sometimes the software update function doesn't install the updates correctly, causing just odd behaviors. The combo update has all prior updates from that OS X version included. If possible, it's good to repair permissions before and after the combo update. -

MacBook pro 8,2 late-2011 after series of kernel panics and video glitches stopped booting
Hello, friends... I am shattered, my MacBook Pro stopped booting today. It all started two days ago, when I came to India and got USB modem dongle from Tata Docomo. It was making Lion kernel panic whenever it was connected to Internet, but had no effect while disconnected or unplugged from the laptop. Then yesterday I had a kernel panic while playing a video in VLC, then while using Skype, and after a while I figured out the pattern, it would crash every time computer switched on the graphic card instead of the on-board CPU graphics. It would also crash with striped blue screen and misplace it horizontally. All this time I was looking for the solution on the internet, and ran two hardware tests, both normal and extended, both showed no issues, tried booting into safe mode getting the striped blue kernel panic screen after the progress bar filled. Resetting the ram also didn't help. Now it will not boot at all, only the hardware test is still working. After the logo screen in normal mode it just goes power off or hangs in grey screen for infinity.
Please, I need your help guys, I'm desperate, went to India for a few months and laptop breaking down almost straight away, and I'm also a dj, so its like a musical instrument to me, that I cannot work without...
Again - MacBook Pro 8,2 Late-2011, 2,4 ghz, 750gb hdd, 4gb ram, ati 1gb graphic card and running Lion 10.7.3, thanks!Try the fixes here, take it back for a warranty call

Kernel Panic on shutdown after OS Lion install - why?
Hi,
I just installed Lion on my MBP and restored programs/data from time machine.
After the 2nd or so start up, I get a kernel panic everytime now upon shutting down my MacBook. Message included below.
Other users on the same machine work okay so far.
Any ideas from the report below? I cannot make sense of it...
Thanks!

I'd also look for an update for your Logitech driver or uninstall it if you're no longer using a Logitech device.

All tentatives to upgrade from SL to LION or MAVERICKS on my MBP17" causes a KERNEL panic.
SL was reinstalled on several HDD and SSD WITHOUT anything else.
Any update to LiON or MAVERICKS will result in an immediate Kernel Panic.
Any clue?
ThanksThanks for your quick answer.
I am the only administrator of my personnal MAC (only one account)
I can't even start in safe mode, there is no firevault nor firmware password , nor RAID volume.
Therefore I had to format the disk and reinstall SL that works like a charm. No way to access the console ….
Any attempt to install LION or MAVERICKS results in a KERNEL PANIC during installation ...
There is no apps installed, no peripheral attached,
By chance I managed somehow to print a log report (see below)

Hi!
It has been 24 hours now since I've installed Lion on my iMac. Previously with Snow Leopard everything worked smoothly but now every 30 min and sometimes less than that I get kernel panics that keep me from using my computer.
This is the report generated after the panic. Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?
Thanks in advance

So far lion as cost me 24,99€+18€ (Ethernet cable - one I have absolutely no to use when everything works as it should)
I admit, I have more patience with apple's mistakes. If it was some other brand I would, by now, taking other actions. But you see Apple, the promise you make us is: It just works. And usually it does. But you broke your promise on this one and with something so simple and basic as wifi. I'll continue to buy your stuff and watching keynotes with more enthusiasm than I watch the FIFA world cup final. But next time I have to be your ambassador with my friends my words won't come as easy as they did 1 week ago.
For now I just ask you to be as quick as you can possibly be dealing with this issue that affects not only me but many others. -
I was getting increasing KP,s in Lion so I took my early 2009 MBPro to the Genius. They returned it after 2 days and didn't tell me if they fixed it. Brought it home and it looked like they reinstalled 10.7.4. I had gone back to 10.7.3 and both 10.7.3 and 10.7.4 had frequent KP's when hardly running anything, including downloading from the App Store. I was getting KP's about every 10-15 minutes. Took several restarts to successfully download Mountain Lion. Installed it a few days ago and have had no KP's since.
I suspect that with the imminent release of ML, Apple did not want to solve the KP issue that so many have complained about. By my evaluation, this was not a Chrome or Safari issue, it was a bad 10.7.3 or 10.7.4 combo upgrade.
Anyway, if you want to get rid of KP's, try Mountain Lion. It solved my problem.Installing an upgraded OS never solves a current OS problem. After posting the latest KP, see these:

Kernel Panic GPU-related after 10.8.4 update
Hello,
I would appreciate some help. Since I updated to Mac Os X 10.8.4, I'm experimenting kernel panics on my Macbook Air (2011). I think it's a GPU-related issue.

The kexts don't seem to referenciate any third party software. It looks like I've problems with the GPU and/or iPhoto, but I don't understand this kind of things properly. I must point here that, before the update, I don't have any problemas at all. Also, I've seen in the support forums that there are bugs on Nvidia graphic cards in Mountain Lion. So... my questions are: a) Is this some kind of bug? b) Can I do something to solve this issue (I've already checked Activity Monitor, reset PRAM, repaired permissions, erased Macintosh HD and restored my hard drive... without results)? c) Could you help me?
Thanks! That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Frequent kernel panics in Lion
Since I upgraded to Lion I'm getting quite frequent kernel panics (one every few days, usually, and sometimes even more than once per day). I also tried to do a fresh install of Lion getting rid of many applications and utilities I was using rarely, but after a couple of days since the upgrade I got a new kernel panic. I'm really stuck and don't know what to do at this point. Here's the latest kernel panic log, if anyone has some suggestions...

FireWire Device: Duet, Apogee Electronics, 400mbit_speedhi Linc thanks. I've tried uninstalling those. and actually i've face the progression bar at the bootup thing. it won't go away. So i've format the drive and reinstall Lion OS again.
Everything well smoothly after that...and tried to run the system for long hours. Seems ok to me for the last 3 days. However I'm back with another kernel panic. Check this out, do u have any idea about this?

G5 Quad kernel panic at 10.4 server boot
I just took G5 Quad out of box, checked everything out, downloaded updates. No problem. But I need 10.4 Server running on this machine. Booted 2 differnt 10.4 Server Dvd's and the unit kernel panics every time. Zapped PRAM. No Avail???? What do I do now???
6 DP 2Ghz G5 2 Gb ram, G5 Quad 2Gb ram Mac OS X (10.4.4) This is my second unit, first one failed thermal cal tests.I called tech support and they told me, to up date machine to 10.4.4 Client then install Server on top of Client and manually download and install 10.4.4 Combo update.
I wonder if the target mode fix will have problems in the long run, since the target machine and client machine differ in hardware?
Are there any machine specific files to delete to make sure there are no problems down the road? -
Mac Mini mid 2011 kernel panic with Lion Internet Recovery
My Mac Mini froze while using Safari and watching a youtube video, so I restarted the machine by holding down the power button, then on startup I reloaded Safari, and it completely froze again. This time around, I got a kernel panic on boot. I tried booting into single user mode by holding down the shift key, but that still gave me a kernel panic. So I tried using the Lion Internet Recovery mode by holding down command-option-R when booting. The OS showed the Internet Recovery progress bar, but when it completed and the machine rebooted, I got a kernel panic again.
Is there anything else I can try to recover this machine, or do I need to take it into an Apple store to have them fix it? It's a mid-2011 model, so I don't have a DVD drive in it, so I can't use a boot disc, although I guess I could use a bootable USB, but I don't have another machine to create one with.
I figure if it kernel panics from an Internet Recovery, then that takes my hard drive and anything that was installed on it out of the equation. I've also disconnected all external devices, drives, etc, and only have a monitor and keyboard/mouse attached to it, so that rules out any other devices that might be causing problems.
Thanks for any advice
AdamMake sure the monitor is plugged in firmly as well as your keyboard/mouse.
Try resetting the PRAM.
Reset your computer’s PRAM
It's less likely to be helpful but if resetting PRAM doesn't help try resetting the SMC.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If neither of those things work it's probably time to visit the Genius bar. -
Kernel Panic in Lion - not wifi related
Hi All
Have had my mac pro for over a year now. Updated to Lion on the first day and never really had any issues with it.
But recently had 5 kernel panics in 3 days and this has never happened before. In fact i have never had any kernel panics on this machine ever.
Below is the log. I would greatly appreciate any suggestion on what is causing it and if there is a way to fix it
Thank you all in advance.
