Kernel Panic is driving me crazy!!!
Hello all,
The kernel panic is driving me crazy!! I did everything I know that could possibly work and fix this issue: I verified Disk and Disk permissions and fixed them. I started in safe mode but still get the panic alert. I even reinstalled the OX LION and nothing seems to work. Thanks in advance

Kernel Panics on 2006 MBP (OSX 10.6.8)
Hello everyone,
I've been rather vexed by this reocurring kernel panic issue that I've been having. I recently inherited my sister's old 2006 15" 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo MBP, which for all intents and purposes is brand new - save for the HDD, which is now 7 years old - after it was pretty much totalled by Safeware after a fall accident some time last year. It was having some weird problems when it came into my hands, so I swapped out the RAM (2GB DDR2 SDRAM) and completely reformatted the hard drive (to OSX 10.6.8) earlier this week. The previous issues with freezes seems to have been resolved, but now I'm dealing with intermittent kernel panics, particularly when I use Google Chrome.
Here is my last kernel panic log:

If anyone can please help me figure out what is wrong with this thing, I'd be terribly appreciative. This is my only laptop for personal use right now, and the kernel panics are driving me nuts. I made an appointment with the local Genius Bar, but their earliest available for my schedule was next Tuesday. If I can get this figured out this weekend before I have to make the trek over, I'd be very happy.
Thanks in advance! Thanks for the advice, Kappy. I'll give it a try.
Curiosity, though - and this probably is a stupid question - but is "Quit Using Chrome" a permanent solution, or a temporary one? I rather dislike Safari as a browser, and I stopped using FFox over two years ago. This is the first time I've ever had kernel panics associated with Chrome, and previous to using this machine I was on a slightly older 2006 CoreDuo MBP. I remember reading that a year or two back one of the Chrome releases caused issues with late model machines, but this thing is far from late mode. -
Hi there!
Please assist me with the following kernel panic. It seems to be active when I use MS powerpoint in Office for mac 2011. Even safe boot does not stop the crash. I have to keep force boot several times before it starts correctly again. Here is the most recent log:

I suggest you back up all data, then uninstall it according to the developer's instructions. Reboot and see whether there's any improvement.
Disk Warrior is an expensive and specialized application whose only use is to try to recover data from a damaged volume that Disk Utility can't repair, and for which there are no backups. It's not a maintenance tool; it's a recovery tool. If you have adequate backups — which means multiple backups — you’ll never need a recovery tool, and therefore Disk Warrior is useless to you. If you don't back up, you'll eventually lose all your data, and Disk Warrior won't be able to save you. Don't waste money on it or anything like it. Spend the money on backup drives instead. -
Crazy Inexplicable Kernel Panics a new Leopard Feature?

The BSD process named changes each time, and runs from kernel_task to ScreenSaverEngine to Adium. The kernel panics ONLY occur when I'm at home though, and not at my office.
The only difference in the environments is the wireless setup - at home I have an AEBS.

Constant Kernel Panics on Mavericks 10.9.5
Hey Everyone,
I really hope someone out there can help me out because these recent kernel panics I've been getting are driving me crazy because they always happen right in the middle of some important project I'm working on.
Before I share the latest kernel panic diagnostic let me give you a bit of history on my computer. I'm running a late 2011 MBP with Mavericks 10.9.5. I had issues with the logic board in the past and got it replaced. I've only had the computer for a little over 2-2.5 years now, and started noticing lots of issues with it after an overall short period of time, mainly related to performance. The computer would run hot with the fans blazing just from watching an HD video on Youtube. Admittedly I do heavy graphics work with Adobe software and 3D apps like Cinema4D. Some of the research I've been doing regarding these kernel panics has lead me to believe that this could potentially be a heating issue. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I decided that I would install more RAM in the computer, bringing it up from 8GB to 16GB. Apparently this Macbook model was only sold with a max of 8GB of RAM, but I heard that it could handle up to 16. So maybe this is potentially the issue, I am running more RAM than I'm "supposed" to, even though the system can technically handle it. Other people have reported issues with the Radeon graphics card (I've got the 6770 M installed).
It doesn't end there though, unfortunately. About two months or so ago I started having major problems with Dashboard. After running processor intensive applications (it would seem), Dashboard would start eating up crazy amounts of memory, stalling all my running programs. Some people said that turning off apps within Dashboard that constantly received data (like the weather app for example) could be causing this. I did that, but it didn't help. I would have to constantly go into Application Manager and kill Dashboard. Eventually I got fed up with doing this and found out how to permanently turn it off. That helped with the memory issues. But THEN the kernel panics started happening. They had happened very rarely in the past, but now it is literally every 2-3 days. And the last bit of info I can share to hopefully help someone figure this problem out for me is that I think the last two times they happened, it was while I was in the middle of typing up a document in Open Office. It definitely did just happen while using Open Office, but I can't confirm the previous one. I am going to be very careful to note exactly which application I am using when it happens from here on out.
Here's the Apple Diagnostic report from the last one:

I took a look into the Library/StartupItems folder and I can see the "tun" folder which correspondes to that foo.tun process. Should I just delete the folder? Doesn't seem to be any way to turn it "off". Also, I'm not sure how to turn off or disable Google Chrome Helper. I've been reading from various other people that it has been causing memory leak issues, but couldn't find any way to disable it. Some even said that after they uninstalled Chrome, the Helper app was still running. What should I do about that? Thanks. -
Kernel panic when i open logic
Hello people i need your help!
This is driving me crazy. Has anyone had this before? Does anyone know what to do?
When i open logic i get a kernel panic as the 'updating tree' dialouge gets halfway. I have now idea what, how and why its doing it. it was running fine untill yesterday. i moved a few folders around but that was it i did not install anything new so i cant understand why this is hapening?!
Please i need answers
Is there anyway of contacting apple directly?
thanks
andy9 times out of 10 a kernal panic is due to a hardware issue. For example, bad ram.
I had something similar happen to me after I clean installed Tiger. Everytime I tried to install logic it would hang at a certain point. I took it to the shop and they diagnosed deffective ram.
You might be able to use your apple hardware test cd/dvd that came with your mac to check your hardware. Also apps like Techtool pro also diagnose hardware issues.
I found the following numbers at the bottom of apple.com/uk
Call the Apple Store on 0800 039 1010 (UK) / 1800 92 38 98 (Republic of Ireland)
They may try to get rid of you if you're outside of warranty (hardware) this happened to me and I pushed them about it being a "software" issue. This got me put through the "Pro Apps" dept (Australia)
Good luck

PLEASE PLEASE help me on this issue.
Since I updated to Leopard (which has been the biggest mistake so far) every time I try to send an e-mail (using Apple Mail 3.0) through my company's server I get a Kernel Panic issue in four languages and I have to restart my computer. The funny thing is that sending the e-mail through Gmail's server works fine.
I don't know what to do, but its driving me crazy.
I appreciate all the help I can get to solve this problem.Thank you for your post!
Here are some troubleshooting steps for you to follow that may help you attempt to rectify your problem.
(1) Please ensure that you have ran all software updates: Apple, then Software Update, then install all updates that are shown. Once updates have been ran and you have rebooted, continue this process until it says no more updates are available at this time.
(2) What happens when you log into your companies webmail and attempt to send a message on the same connection? Does the same issue occur? If so consult with your IT administrator and see if other Macintosh users are having a similar problem.
(3) What happens when you attempt to send Mail in the activity pane? Click, (at top of screen) Window, then Activity pane before the panic occurs?
(4) Try creating a new user in System Preferences, then Accounts. Once you're in System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon. Then click on the padlock, and authenticate with your Administrative password. Click on the "+" sign, then the drop down that says "standard", and change that to Administrator. In each field type the word "test", and then click create account. Close out of System Preferences, then log out of your user account (Apple icon, then log-out). Once you've done this launch mail in the test user and reconfigure it with only your work mail account. Does the same issue persist in the new user when attempting to send mail? If so boot to your install disc for Leopard and run Disk Utilities Disk First Aid- Repair Disk and then proceed to Archive and Reinstalling your operating system preserving user and network settings.
Following this article is advised:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
(5) If you're able to send Mail successfully in the new user log out of test and log back into your user account as you've isolated the issue to be user specific. Go to System Preferences and delete the test user account then once you're sure no application is open such as Mail open a Finder window and then navigate to your Home folder, then Library, then Mail. Click and drag the Mail folder to the desktop. Then click Preferences, and find and remove com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop as well. Log out and log back in. Relaunch mail and reconfigure your mail account for work. If you click on Mail, then Preferences, then Accounts, make sure only your work account is listed in an attempt to remove any other variables. If the Google one is still listed remove it. Then re-add your work account after confirming the outgoing mail address with your IT administrator and the correct port number in addition to whether or not SSL is required and what type of authentication is necessary. If this works, then trash the .plist and leave the Mail folder on your desktop in the event you need to revert to your old database for whatever reason for at least a week or so till you're sure the problem has been permanently resolved.
Some other ideas that I have include:
* Are you hard wired via ethernet to your works network? Is there a wireless network that you can connect to via Airport disabling your ethernet connection? Attempt to send mail from that and see if the unit continues to kernel panic.
* Make sure any peripheral devices connected to your computer are removed (you never know, unlikely yes, but to be safe I'd remove them).
* If you upgraded from Tiger archiving and reinstalling preserving users and network settings may very well resolve your issue. Only do this after isolating that the problem is system wide across the OS.
* Leopard may not be compatible with your network at work for whatever reason, archiving and downgrading back down to Tiger 10.4 is always an option as well. Just make sure to use your Tiger disc and run software updates after to ensure you're on 10.4.11.
Making sure you have a complete backup prior to archiving or making any system modifications is equally as important especially if it's your work machine.
Hope this helps! :-D

Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

DaveHi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

This kernel panic non-sense is driving me CRAZY.
started happening about 3 weeks ago and they've been repeatedly happening. It's always when i'm doing something hard drive heavy that it happens. It hasn't BEEN happening and I've had it since December 2011.
I edit vids with final cut pro x, i watch videos on youtube and these kernal panics happen. I've been to the genius bar in the apple store, i've reinstalled the OSX, I've deleted EVERYTHING off of my macbook in an attempt to start over. I've even opened it and cleaned the fan and dust from inside the system and these panics still happen. I don't have $250 to spend on an apple care warranty and frankly i shouldn't have to. $1300 is enough for a **** laptop. Is there anyone that can give me a good solid solution to this so i don't have to take this laptop to the store and throw it at someone?Honestly if you have had Kernel Panics since you bought your Mac I would of taken it back at the first sign. I've had my 15" MBP since Dec 2011 and Never had a KP.
Having said that you have a Hardware problem. Hard drive, Memory or just a faulty MBP. Since you wiped the drive, re-installed the OS and it would seem you have done everything as far as software to stop the KPs and they haven't gone away then there is only one thing left. Faulty product. Keep taking it back to Apple with pictures and log file files or print outs of them and demand that they fix it or replace it.
As for Applecare I bought it as I am new to Mac and from reading this and other forums it would seem Mac's have the same hardware and software problem that all other computers have, IE they are no better then any other make or model computer (they only cost a ton more) and Apple charges an arm and a leg to fix Mac's that are out of warranty. -
Kernel Panic on MacBook Pro, brand new.
HI!
I have done a lot of research on the kernel panic. It happens on Safari, and I have done all I think I can do based on what I have read on these forums. (PRAM, reinstall OS, repair permissions, ditch safari prefs, etc)
Another odd thing is that it only happens when my 24 inch cinema display is plugged in.
Here is the part that seems to be the most important.
This is the part that is consistent in every crash...

Is there a way to replace this?
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHDGraphics(6.2.4)
--- I HAVE replaced the OS and it happened again.
Safari issue? Plug in issue? Flash issue? Like I said, it's only when I am browsing, and it happens .
Could it be a RAM or hardware issue? Something with the display?
Anyone?
THANKS!!!I have the exact same problem. New full-loaded 17" MBP, fully updated OSX, and Safari causes a kernel panic about once PER DAY! It's driving me crazy. I've reinstalled Safari, zapped PRAM, updated flash, all to no avail. Here's the kernel panic log:

Mavericks causing kernel panics
hi after the update my imac started to do random reboots every few hours its driving me crazy. i have already did a reset of my NVRAM/PRAM and did a memtest and the apple hardware test with no errors
here is the panic log

Thunderbolt Bus: iMac, Apple Inc., 25.1That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
HELP! Final Cut Crashes or Freezes on Export/Render System Kernel Panic
I am having issues with Final Cut on this computer since day 1 when I first purchased it! I do alot of video production for weddings and events and this is driving me nuts!
I have an Imac 2.16 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3GB 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM. The media is reading off of my external Firewire 800 1 TB Drive. Final Cut is version 5.1.4. Quicktime version is 7.4.5
I am editing an HDV project currently although I have had the same issue with other regular DV projects that have lengthy renders.
The current project is fairly simplistic in layout, with a white matte on the first video line, video and png stills on the second row each with a key around the edges to give a soft white border appearance on the video. PNG stills have motion settings.
The problem occurs when attempting to render the project. If attempting to render the entire project, the time states about 4 hrs (for a 30 min project). At around 18-25% the kernel error pops up asking the restart the imac. If I attempt to render in selections of about 10 minutes a piece, it also results in kernel panic. If I take smaller peices at a time and render and keep saving, I am able to slowly get through rendering the project.
Exporting the movie to quicktime as a self contained file, or even not self contained, also results in kernal panic about 40% of the way through.
I have read on various forums about this and it seems like everyone is thinking it may have something to do with quicktime. What could the problem really be? I'm going crazy! Is the Imac just not able to handle final cut?
Thanks!I've tried a few things to try and identify the problem, but none of them have helped.
For instance, I completely turned off the screen saver. In the preferences, under power saver, I selected, computer sleep to "never"; Display sleep to "never"; I unchecked the "put the hard disk to sleep when possible."
And then I tried to only very small portion of the timeline. The results were as follows:
At around 5 minutes, the final cut crashes. I tried this process several times, and it seems to render up until the 5 minute limit and then crashes again.
Does anyone know what to do? -
Booting from firewire target mode on a mac pro with kernel panic?
hello
i am wondering if it is possible to use firewire target mode to boot a mac pro that has never got past a multi language kernel panic on boot?
basically i have tried all the other options and cant get it to open the superdrive to insert my installation disk, as to repair the drivers with my snow leopard disk.
i've tried holding my mouse key down, the paperclip option on the drive itself and the firmware keycombo, so my idea is that the only way to fix it is with target mode. can this be done - and if so - could someone direct me towards a tutorial that will help me do this.
please advise if this is possible or if there is another method i should use? apart from taking it to the applestore (extreme last ditch option) i am quite low on ideas here.
many thanks!
p.s heres the message i wrote for the original problem which caused all the kernel panics;
"i recently bought a mac pro and upon starting it for the first time opted to transfer the all the data i could over via firewire from my macbook pro.
i used the standard 't' command with the firewire symbol.
Somewhere towards the end of the transfer (I am not sure at what pont - I wasnt there for all of it) - , the monitor went blank and the whole thing was unresponsive. my macbook's firewire sign continued to move around the screen.
after leaving it for some time i decided to turn off the macbook and then the mac pro.
i restarted the macbook and got some pretty crazy stuff happening to my calender - but so far everything seems to be fine.
i am more concerned about the "you need to restart your computer" message; this is the dreaded 'kernel panic' right?. i have never actually done anything with this computer yet, and it was purchased new.""i recently bought a mac pro and upon starting it for the first time opted to transfer the all the data i could over via firewire from my macbook pro.
Never opt to transfer until you have insured it works fine for a couple days, I would never use Setup or Migration Assistant until such time, and I would have a bootable backup clone.
Try pulling all the hard drives from inside your Mac Pro and boot from OS X DVD - latest OS build. -
Constant Kernel Panics- Please help!
Hi,
I am currently running Mountaint Lion 10.8.5 (haven't updated to mavericks quite yet) on a 2.53 GHz Intel core 2 duo Macbook Pro. I'm not sure of the year it was made but if that's really important I can look up the serial. Anyways, this thing is making me crazy. Kernel Panics ("your computer shut down because of a problem") have become an extraordinarily common part of my life. The more demanding the task (LOW resolution games would be the most demanding), the more frequent the Panics. Sometimes it even happens when I'm just browsing or watching netflix. Usually before the kernel panic occurs the computer has heated up quite a bit and the fan starts wurring like an engine. I do consistently use my laptop on my bed; I heard that may be affecting the airflow to the vents. But I assure you the Panics occur on flat surfaces as well. I bought this machine used so I don't know it's full history, but under my care, it has taken no spills, drops, or damages otherwise. I have tried many things to help: Repairing my hard drive with Disk Utility, resetting my PRAM, cleaning things up with MacKeeper, even global virus scans that come up clean. I don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I have tried all the tools at the disposal of my knowledge and I am really starting to get frustrated.
My last OS update was recent; far after panics started to be a problem.
I pray to god this is not a hardware issue.
Any help would be of the highest appreciation

PS I don't know if anyone could help with this, but my machine also runs unbelievably slow considering it has 8 whopping Gigabytes of RAM.Aaron is a boy,
you can replace your two 4 GB 1333 MHz memory modules with two 4 GB 1066 MHz memory modules, so that you can continue to have a total of 8 GB of RAM installed. Having the proper speed RAM installed in your MacBook Pro will make a world of difference compared to its current performance. The little white booklet that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro shows how to replace the memory modules, if you’re comfortable with performing minor upgrades; the important thing is to discharge any static electricity on you by touching something metallic before handling the memory modules or touching anything inside of your MacBook Pro. If you’d be more comfortable with someone else doing the memory module installation, then any competent computer shop would be able to do it.
