Kernel Panic on Macbook 1,1 running 10.5.8
I did a quick search through the forum and didn't see anything specific about this problem. It just started to occur yesterday and nothing has changed on the computer. (Nothing new installed and no external hardware plugged in.)
Basically, it just pops up with the grey screen advising to restart. Sometimes it occurs after waking from sleep, sometimes it occurs after starting up, and sometimes it occurs in the middle of a task. I haven't noticed a specific pattern.
I ran the AHT and everything passed. I also ran Rember and the memory seemed fine in the test. I reset the PRAM and VRAM and the SMC after speaking with Apple. Finally, I reinstalled the OSX clean on the machine and the panics are still occurring.
This is the last panic report from the Macbook 1,1 2.0 with 1.25 GB RAM. I'm hoping it is the RAM and not something with the logic board, but am not sure if that can be ascertained without finding replacement RAM first.

EDIT: I just unplugged the power adapter from the wall and after about a minute or so, the computer restarted on its own. The battery was fully charged, but perhaps that information could shed some more light on the issue.

Gratuitous kernel panic on my iMac G3 running Tiger. How can I prevent this
Ok, I know I probably shouldn't have installed Tiger on my G3 iMac so you don't need to remind me. However, it runs pretty good and I hardly ever even see the beachball spinning when I ask it to do something. What I am shocked, shocked by is the ridiculous amount of frequency that I end up with a kernel panic that gives me the 'gray screen' telling me I have to restart my Mac. I have been able to keep this down to a minimum by pointedly only running programs and commands one at a time with a good sized pause in between but even with that I am diappointed with how often it happens. Call me a heretic, but I think it would have killed Apple to stick with their classic OS framework rather than go to UNIX. I would like some tips about things I could do to minimize this occurence above what I already do. It really ***** to have had to reinstall Tiger about 3 or 4 times since I upgraded and have to change up the screen position, dock, desktop, mouse, screen saver, and reinstall all my programs after my iMac has croaked and finally accepted another reload of Tiger.
I'll ignore the major portion of your post which comes across as a rant and try to stick with the title: "kernel panic on my iMac G3 running Tiger. How can I prevent this?"
Kernel panics are usually caused by bad or marginal RAM or RAM that isn't seated properly, or by buggy or damaged software or drivers. In the past, problems with marginal RAM for Macs has shown up when people upgraded to new versions of the OS -- which might fit your situation.
Although your CPU is slow, you have lots of RAM, so Tiger should run OK, if the RAM is not defective. You don't mention how much free space you have on your hard drive. Typically you're going to need at least 5 Gig free to give Tiger breathing room.
Running a system maintenance utility like Yasu would probably also be beneficial:
http://jimmitchell.org/projects/yasu/
What does the hardware test for your Mac say about your system? This might help us determine if there is a hardware cause for the kernel panics. -
Frequent Kernel Panics on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
My Macbook Pro is about 10 months old, and I've infrequently had kernel panics (about 3-4 a month) that began about 2 days after initial purchase. Is that often enough to be reason for concern? I'm asking because if there is a problem I'd hope to act on it now while still under initial warranty.
It's hard to tell what the common thread could be between them, I don't have much third party software installed or peripherals attached. The only possible culprit that comes to mind is VLC, but I've definitely had crashes when VLC wasn't running. Any advice would be appreciated. Below is the most recent panic:

Frequent Kernel Panics on Macbook Pro Retina 15" late 2013
Since a few weeks my Macbook Pro is suffering from frequent kernel panics. The logic board has already been replaced by the Apple but the panics keep occurring.
Machine specs: Macbook Pro retina 15" late 2013, 2.6Ghz Core I7, 16GB Ram, 1TB SSD. This is the model with the discrete Nvidia graphics card.
Already tried, clean install from usb, internet recovery, reset of SMC, PRAM, the machine passes the build in diagnostics and the Apple Store diagnostics.
The following panics occur without specific action from my part so they can happen when the Macbook is idle or when in use. There is no other software installed in the machine than OS X Yosemite and the latest updates.
Every kernel panic (currently 12 in the last 5 hours) show the latest loaded Kext, AppleHWSensor and latest unloaded Kext AppleFileSystemDriver which seems like more than a coincidence.
Hopefully someone can point me in the direction of cause of the problem.

I suspect tha your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. (bring the kernel panic report with you)
Ciao. -
Hi all. I had been getting plagued by kernel panics with my relatively new Macbook Air (which I otherwise have had no issues with) when I did the following in sequence:
While connected to a power supply, lock screen
Close the lid
Disconnect power supply
Open the lid
For me, this seemed to have been caused by the Automatically adjust brightness option. To access it, go to System Preferences > Displays > Automatically adjust brightness, and uncheck the box. I also unchecked similar options that dim the screen before sleep in Energy Saver. This seems to have fixed it. I'm including the full kernel panic report -- if you're having problems with kernel panics, give it a try. I'm going to see for the next few days if this solves the issue. My guess is that this option and the display driver for this computer are really not playing well together in this version of Lion. I tried various other things:
Disabling bluetooth
Using pmset to set the hibernatemode to 0 as well as 25
Restting SMC
and none of them fixed it. This did, though, or at least it seems that way -- I am going to check for the next few days and see how it does. I am not running any third party kexts, though I do have a few third party launch agents for daemons, servers and such which have been installed via Homebrew. Feel free to comment. I am definitely a little underwhelmed by this kind of behavior coming from what is a several thousand dollar piece investment that is the most important piece of equipment for me to do my work on any given day, but if I can bypass it for now without too much of a loss in functionality, so be it.

Kernel panic on Macbook, possibly since 10.6.8
Hello,
I have a 2008 white Macbook, relatively vanilla (nothing funky installed, no external hardrive, screen, keyboard or mouse) and have been experiencing irregular kernal panics for about 7 to 10 days, which I believe is when I updated to 10.6.8.
These panics usually happen when I leave my computer totally idle, after maybe 10 to 20 minutes. This is not my sleep settings, though, so it's not when the computer is supposed to put itself to sleep.
I tried to run Onyx and Rember, but got kernel panics while running both.
I will very soon have to put my laptop to stress for my work, and I am worried that it might not perform. Therefore, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction.
Here are three kernel panics logs from today. Anybody got an idea?

(Intel and PowerPC based)..iMAC,MacBook/Pro,MacPro Mac OS X (10.4.8)Thank you for the info. Here are the details of our MacBook Pro.
It was acquired recently, last November. And we returned it to our supplier and they forwarded it to an apple store. The Apple store found no defective hardware and returned it back to us. I reformated the thing (erase everything) and reinstalled everything. At first, with no 3rd party programs, it was running ok. The problem started when (actually i'm not the one using it) we installed Adobe CS2, especially Adobe InCopy trial version. It became worst when someone calibrated the screen with Eyeone. I am going to reformat it again and install softwares batch by batch and demote the macbook owner to user level to limit his rights to install anything so I can monitor what he's doing on the book. yesterday, the owner informed me that it crashed again 5 times. If someone can decode this panic.log or you want me to post additional panic.log to better understand the problem, please let me know so I know when or where to stop installing things out and what I do not need to install or is it hardware problem? Thanks! Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi,
Over the past two months or so, my MacBook has experienced two Kernel Panics. They came within a week of each other, but the last one has been about a month and a half ago. Everything has been working fine since. Just curious what would cause something like this? And is my system at risk?
Thanks.
C h r i s t o p hSince you haven't provided any information on these panics nor the panic.log information there's little we can do to answer your question, so I suggest you visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.
Some additional information:
What Is a Kernel Panic.
Interpreting Intel Kernel Panic Info
CR0, CR1, CR2, CR3, and CR4 followed by hexadecimal addresses state of the Control Registers in the Xeon processor when each panic occurs.
For example, the CR0 indicates operating mode and states of the processor. CR2 indicates the address that caused a page fault.
EAX, EBX, ECX, EDX, EBP, EDI and ESI state each the extended 32-bit registers at the time of a type 14 page-fault exception.
"No mapping exists for frame pointer" means that a page invoked by a program code is not mapped in physical memory for the page frame pointer.
A kernel trap "type 14=page fault" can be proved that the cause is most likely either of the following scenarios:
1. The processor detects that an attempt to execute an instruction at an invalid memory address.
2. The processor detects that an instruction by a program [#1] or a computation by you does not have sufficient privilege to access the indicated page. #1: A software attempts to access a kernel memory space that does not have the privilege.
3. The processor detects that a program code attempt to write to a read-only page.
4. The processor detects an instruction fetch that attempts to a physical address in a memory page cannot be executed due to unable-bit flag.
5. I cannot explain you about the last scenario because too complicated.
Possible cause: Either incompatible software or bad RAM.
Suggested troubleshooting procedure:
1. Verify topology such as the power resource and a LAN network.
2. Run Apple Hardware Test disc with Extended mode if available. If disc is not available, swapping them to reseat to each restart the computer.
3. Troubleshoot incompatible third-party software.
There is some number of Knowledge Base articles for Kernel Panic you may want to refer. It may be a good idea what computation you were doing shortly before the first panic. -
Constant Kernel Panics Black Macbook
Hi I recently acquired a black 2007-2008~ black macbook and I'm having issues figuring out what the issues are with this machine. Without fail, this macbook will popup the "You need to restart your computer" message at random points, though typically I'm unable to even get it to boot to the login screen before it tells me it's hit a kernel panic.
That being said, I did manage to get it to stay working long enough to email myself the crash log from one of the most recent crashes.
I consider myself pretty computer literate, but I can't find anything to get this to work. Also, I've attempted runing the AHT (Holding 'D' key on startup), but I haven't been able to get it to run. I've tried pulling the disc, wiping it, installing all the necessary programs on a nearly identical macbook, but nothing has seemed to work.
I've swapped the ram, keyboard, and airport card into another confirmed working macbook and have had no issues with crashes.
Please help

You might first try a safe boot to see if that clears out the problem, if that doesn't help I would try reinstalling OS X. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564

Frequent Kernel Panics for Macbook Pro (Late 2013)
Hi,
After a clean install of Yosemite, I'm experiencing frequent kernel panics. I'm using MBP (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with 2 Ghz and 8 GB RAM. Looking at the problem details, there is no third party software that affects the system.
Things that I did:
Reset PRAM
Did a clean install of Yosemite
Ran hardware diagnostics (No issues)
Thanks. I appreciate any help.

Kernel panic when I try to run Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update
Hi,
I'm trying to run the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update and every time I try, as soon as I've entered my admin password I get a kernel panic. I've tried it 5 times and it's the same every time - I click Update, I put in the password and bam.
Anyone else had this?If you don't get the KP when booting from the internal, then suspect a corrupt installation on the SSD or that the SSD is causing the issue. See

Constantly having kernel panics on Macbook Pro
Hi all,
For the last couple of weeks I'm having kernel panics on my MBP. The last couple of days I'm having more and more of these panics. It's starting to drive me crazy and was wondering if someone could help me with my last rapport. Is it a third party or is it something with my RAM or graphic card? I searched for the reason a while, but I have no idea what is going on and I saw some people posted their reports, so I'm gonna try the same thing.
Who's gonna be my hero?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair. The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Kernel Panic - my MacBook keeps crashing
Hi, all:
I have been getting frequent (2-3 times a day) kernel panics. I'm relatively new to Macs; switched about a year ago... this reminds me of the dark side's dreaded Blue Screen of Death.
Here's what was on the most recent report. I note that SmithMicro's NetBlockade is listed in there, and I've figured out that the stuff at the end is all descriptive of my computer. Oh, and I do have Windows XP installed under Parallels.
If anyone can shed some light as to what I should try next, I'd be grateful.

Oh No! Kernel Panic on MacBook Pro 2010
The horror starts again (I had this issue with my first MacBook Pro some years ago):
My brandnew MacBook Pro i7
17inch, 2,8 GHZ, 8GB Ram installed by Apple-Shop,
is starting to give me at least 2 Kernel Panics a day.
Who knows why?

Kernel Panics with Macbook Pro 2011 on Lion 10.7.1
Ok so I've been getting a lot of kernel panics since I installed Lion, sometimes up to twice a day.
First, I did an Apple hardware check, which didn't show anything. Then I did a clean reinstall of Lion, but I'm still getting the kernel panic.
They are quite random, the only pattern I see is that I will get a kernel panic half the time I start up Parallels. But I also got a kernel panic when I was just browsing the web before I reinstalled Parallels after the clean install.
Here is one of them below. All three that I've had since the clean install mention com.apple.filesystems.smbfs as the last loaded kext. Does anybody know what the problem may be?
