Kernel panic on MacBook Air 5,2 (2012) Gotomeeting, Skype, audio
Hi,
I'm experiencing Kernel Panics while using applications like GoToMeeting and Skype.
Using Console.app and reading the kernel panic log, I read something like:
last loaded kext com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC
and also these drivers:
com.apple.driver.AudioAUUC
com.apple.driver.Apple.ThunderboltDPInAdapter
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHD4000Graphics
How do I know which driver is the problem? Is there a way to report this kernel panic
to AppleCare? The MBA is on warranty
Thanks
Oliver
Is seems that the problem appears after enabling video calling, both in Skype and GotoMeeting.
Also, in the Apple Store the Genius migrated from a MBP 10.6 to the MBA, I don't know if he migrated drivers or something.
Thanks
Oliver

Hi all. I had been getting plagued by kernel panics with my relatively new Macbook Air (which I otherwise have had no issues with) when I did the following in sequence:
While connected to a power supply, lock screen
Close the lid
Disconnect power supply
Open the lid
For me, this seemed to have been caused by the Automatically adjust brightness option. To access it, go to System Preferences > Displays > Automatically adjust brightness, and uncheck the box. I also unchecked similar options that dim the screen before sleep in Energy Saver. This seems to have fixed it. I'm including the full kernel panic report -- if you're having problems with kernel panics, give it a try. I'm going to see for the next few days if this solves the issue. My guess is that this option and the display driver for this computer are really not playing well together in this version of Lion. I tried various other things:
Disabling bluetooth
Using pmset to set the hibernatemode to 0 as well as 25
Restting SMC
and none of them fixed it. This did, though, or at least it seems that way -- I am going to check for the next few days and see how it does. I am not running any third party kexts, though I do have a few third party launch agents for daemons, servers and such which have been installed via Homebrew. Feel free to comment. I am definitely a little underwhelmed by this kind of behavior coming from what is a several thousand dollar piece investment that is the most important piece of equipment for me to do my work on any given day, but if I can bypass it for now without too much of a loss in functionality, so be it.

Dear All,
I purchased my Macbook Air in the US in August 2011. Now it is only less than two years. Starting from two weeks ago, my Mac air starts to have the four language restart box very often. I took it to the Apple Genuis Bar and got my whole system clean reinstalled. Update all the software. But the problem happened again, and the four lanague restart box changes to a five lanague restrat box.
I did not install windows in my mac.
The first time that the panic happened when I waked my Mac up from sleeping. Later, the panic happens randomly, sometimes when I use Word, sometimes when I use safari. After I retalled the whole system, the panic happened twice when I tried to install new software, such as Itune.
I would be very grateful if anybody can give me an idea how to resolve the problem.

At the end of the restorement, the 5-lanague restart box appeared again. The technician told me that probably the hardware was broken down. He has seen six max air recently with kernel panics because of hardware problems.
I bought my mac air in the US in August 2011. Use it very carefully. Terribly, less than 2 years, it broke down. -
Hi,
I open a thread in the 'Snow Leopard' discussions about an issue I'm trying to troubleshoot concerning kernel panics on a MacBook Air (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2361830 for details); it was suggested I try this forum too.
Additonal notes:
1) The issue started after 10.6.2 was released - problem with the smbfs kext in 10.6.2?
2) The MacBook Air has had the OS re-installed after the issue started.
3) The smb mount is to a Windows 2008 clustered file server.
Any one seen similar behaviour?

Cannot reboot after kernel panic on Macbook Air 11
MBA 11 had kernel panic and gave me the "you must shut down" warning. Now it won't reboot. Hangs at gray screen with circle/slash in middle.
I have the external optical drive, but I don't have the installation disk or the flash key that came with it.
What are my options?Never mind. I fixed the issue via Safe Boot, then Restart. Seems OK now. I was a little panicky when I posted as I'd come off a bad day.

Lcd Needs to Be replaced on macbook air 13 mid 2012 model a1466. Is an screen from MBA 13 mid 2011 model a1369 also compatible?
Well that's only a possibility, not likely. I'll stick with Mac as much as I can, which I imagine will mostly be ok. If I have to, I'll use their computers in class and do PC homework assignments from home on my more powerful iMac. The only thing I really thought about before buying it was its portability and the fact that I won't be using it for actual programming jobs after school. This is merely to get me through school.

Hi, my built in webcam has stopped working on Skype following an update. Does this mean my macbook air has blocked videochat on skype? How can I fix this problem?
See this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
FIX:
1. You need Time Machine
2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
If that doesnt pass,
Suggest looking here, much success has been found:

I get "kernel Panic" the moment I'm connecting an external (m-audio) audio drive
I believe m-audio installs some kexts (drivers) so my guess is it's what's causing your KP's.
Maybe you have an incompatible version or the stuff just plain doesn't work in lion. -
My FaceTime Camera of my MacBook Air doesn't work in Skype.
My FaceTime Camera of my MacBook Air doesn't work in Skype. I try to make a videocall but my camera doesn't work.
Be sure to check PHOTOBOOTH and FACETIME in more than one user account. However, don't use the "Guest" account for testing. If your Mac only has one account, create a new user account for testing.
• If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
• Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
• Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight. For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
The same Troubleshooting help for built-in iSight works for FaceTime (and FaceTime HD) cameras, too.
If your camera works with Apple apps in every user account you test, search or post for help in Skype's dedicated forum. The Skype users who post there may have already know the solution for your particular problem.

Kernel Panics when waking from sleep? 2012 MBA Base Model
I've been having some trouble with my 2012 MacBook Air. It was running perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when waking from sleep, I am getting Kernel Panics that force the restart of my Mac. I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on the issue.
An example log file is below:

Alternatively you can boot into Safe Mode which will not load those device drivers, and see if you panics cease. If they do, then you can uninstall the software. BTW, the current version of Virtual Box is VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-OSX. -
GPU panic on MacBook Air (2014) with Yosemite
Hello, my new MacBook Air (system details below) has been having intermittent GPU panics when using Safari. These seem to be correlated with sites on the Gawker network (e.g. http://www.gawker.com, http://www.lifehacker.com) when they play a pop up video ad. Here's a slice of the report from the console:

The problem seems similar to this one: Kernel GPU Reset, Yosemite, MacBook Pro 13 Retina Early 2013
Sometimes the system recovers on its own, most recently I had to hold down the power button to restart.
Details of my system:

Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1)The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
Constant Kernel Panics Black Macbook
Hi I recently acquired a black 2007-2008~ black macbook and I'm having issues figuring out what the issues are with this machine. Without fail, this macbook will popup the "You need to restart your computer" message at random points, though typically I'm unable to even get it to boot to the login screen before it tells me it's hit a kernel panic.
That being said, I did manage to get it to stay working long enough to email myself the crash log from one of the most recent crashes.
I consider myself pretty computer literate, but I can't find anything to get this to work. Also, I've attempted runing the AHT (Holding 'D' key on startup), but I haven't been able to get it to run. I've tried pulling the disc, wiping it, installing all the necessary programs on a nearly identical macbook, but nothing has seemed to work.
I've swapped the ram, keyboard, and airport card into another confirmed working macbook and have had no issues with crashes.
Please help

That said, I stil think you may have a corrupt bluetooth driver. You might first try a safe boot to see if that clears out the problem, if that doesn't help I would try reinstalling OS X. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564

Frequent Kernel Panics on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
My Macbook Pro is about 10 months old, and I've infrequently had kernel panics (about 3-4 a month) that began about 2 days after initial purchase. Is that often enough to be reason for concern? I'm asking because if there is a problem I'd hope to act on it now while still under initial warranty.
It's hard to tell what the common thread could be between them, I don't have much third party software installed or peripherals attached. The only possible culprit that comes to mind is VLC, but I've definitely had crashes when VLC wasn't running. Any advice would be appreciated. Below is the most recent panic:
