  • Multiple kernel panics a day - only using Lion, not Snow Leopard

    Hey,
would be nice if anyone could help me.
I recently updated to 10.7 - when installing, Lion crashed two times with kernel panics, since then I get kernel panics every 5-10 minutes (sometimes I can work several hours until the kernel panics appear).
    What I already tried:
    - reinstalling Snow Leopard (no kernel panics; too bad all my SL-TimeMachine-Backups are lost...)
    - reinstalling a clean Lion (even with nothing installed, many kernel panics...)
    - PRAM-reset
    - repaired volume and permissions with disk utility
here are the two last kernel panics:

  • Kernel panic during downgrade attempt from Lion to Snow Leopard

    Hi guys,
I am experiencing two issues with Lion so I decided to downgrade to Snow Leopard using my Time Machine backup.
So I rebooted, held the option key down, booted from recovery disk, selected the option to select a time machine backup. I picked the latest 10.6.8 save.
Then, I waited for recovery... After completion, I noticed that I could not access my System Preferences anymore in SL. So I realised that I should have done the first steps using the option from the SL disk instead of the recovery disk.
I restarted with the SL disk in, tried to boot from the disk and got a scary kernel panic every time I tried (right when it tried to boot from the SL disk). I do not know what to do, I simply want to go back to SL backup (from my time machine) before Lion upgrade.
But, my only option to boot up is with a Lion DVD...
Any help would be greatly welecomed!
    Thanks!

Just wanted to let you all know that I figured out why I was getting the kernel panic error: I was using an old SL upgrade DVD (the very first that was available in Apple stores when SL came out) instead of the install DVD that came with my iMac.
I just tried to boot from the right DVD and it worked fine. This thread can be marked as resolved.
    Thanks!

  • Multiple kernel panics related to java and NTFS

Over the past week, I have experienced at least three separate kernel panics, but only two have had their event recorded by the System Diagnostic Reports.  I was wondering if there are any known issues that could cause kernel panic, such as the ones my system has received.  I have attached the result of the most recent panic below.
Please note that I am running OS X 10.7.4 on a Mac Pro (early 2008) with 14GB RAM.  At the time the panics occurred, CrashPlan was in the process of backing up files (to CrashPlan Central) from my Boot Camp partition, which has Windows XP installed on a NTFS drive.  I mention this, because the fault appears to be related to NTFS and Java.  My understanding is that CrashPlan uses Java, and I don't believe I have many other (if any) applications running on it typically.
I should also mentioned that I may have had Parallels Desktop running at the same time, and had a Windows XP virtual running the CrashPlan client for Windows that was overseeing the backup on my Synology DiskStation NAS.  At this time, I do not believe this is related to the panic, as I have been using Parallels in such a manner for weeks prior, and never received a panic.  Also, while the CrashPlan client in Windows also uses java, due to the VM sandbox, I believe the java is handled internally by Parallels, and doesn't utilize any java thread outside of Parallels.
As I mentioned earlier, I have two recorded panics apparently caused by the same issue, having occurred in the "java" thread and related to "ntfs_attr_record_move_for_attr_list_attribute()".  I noticed that the other report also includes a section at the bottom for "System Profile" with information, such as:
    Model: MacPro3,1, BootROM MP31.006C.B05, 8 processors, Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz, 14 GB, SMC 1.25f4
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770, ATI Radeon HD 5770, PCIe, 1024 MB
    Memory Module: DIMM Riser B/DIMM 1, 2 GB, DDR2 FB-DIMM, 800 MHz, 0x0000, 0x000000463732353642363145353830304600
    Memory Module: DIMM Riser B/DIMM 2, 2 GB, DDR2 FB-DIMM, 800 MHz, 0x0000, 0x000000463732353642363145353830304600
    Memory Module: DIMM Riser A/DIMM 1, 4 GB, DDR2 FB-DIMM, 800 MHz, 0x80AD, 0x485900503132354637324350344E332D5336
    ... ETC ...
Why would some kernel panics include the system profile while others do not?  Are the panic logs "complete" or can they be incomplete due to the kernel locking up before writing the entire log?
I have been using this system since 2008, and gone through numerous OS and Parallels updates over the years.  At this time, I appear to be update-to-date on all software.  I do not recall ever having received a kernel panic in the past, and if I have, it would have been extremely infrequent with the last occurring many years ago.

What might I find by running XP natively?  I won't get kernel panics under XP.  I haven't run it natively in many months.
I thought that Parallels actually uses Paragon NTFS (or at least a variant of it) to read and write to the NTFS drives.  It's possible that I am mistaken, as many years have passed since I last looked at Paragon NTFS.
Is the Paragon driver intended to replace the OS X default NTFS driver or Parallels?  I'm not sure how Parallels will respond to the Paragon driver.
Parallels should be up-to-date.  It reports build 7.0.15094.
Regarding Windows XP, this is the only system I have that is still running XP on Boot Camp.  I rarely use it these days, and wouldn't be now, if I wasn't trying to back it up using CrashPlan.  My plan is upgrade when I have time.  All my other systems have Windows 7 on the Boot Camp drives.
I do have a few VMs that use XP, because I haven't had the chance to replace them with Windows 7 installs, and they are generally used for infrequent development tasks and for running Beyond Compare.  Also, I believe there may have been license issues with the version of Windows 7 that I'm own when used with VMs (meaning they're not allowed) ... but don't quote me on this.
I noticed that Riser B/DIMM 1 and 2 do not report the Manufacturer.  I'm pretty sure the 2GB and 4GB DIMMs are OWC.  The 1GB DIMMs are OEM from Apple.

  • More kernel panics in 10.4.9 than in previous versions of Tiger?

I've experienced 2 kernel panics in the past 3 months or so -- far more often than in previous versions of Tiger (I started with 10.4.3). One was during a wake up from safe sleep, another from regular sleep. In the first case, no other devices were connected, in the second, I had connected a 20" Apple Cinema Display and the power cable. My hard disk has been verified with Disk Utility and DiskWarrior 4.
Does anyone else think that 10.4.9 might be more prone to kernel panics?

    Hi
Don't know as I haven't experienced one yet, does anything here help?

Edit: You've tried everything there already, have you? Tried repairing permissions etc.

  • Kernel Panic with 10.4.3, 10.4.4

I have a Quicksilver dual 1GHz G4 with 1.25GB of ram. It was ridiculously stable until the 10.4.3 update. With the 10.4.4 update, things got even worse. I now have so many kernel panics as to make the machine unusable.
I've run through the "Resolving Kernel Panics" page step-by-step... run DiskWarrior, run the machine with "plugs-out" (NO FireWire or USB devices plugged in), archive & installed, ran with each stick of ram individually, repaired permissions, zapped the PRAM, run "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" in Open Firmware.... nothing fixes it, nothing seems to be the culprit.
Crash log below. Can anyone help PLEASE?

Sorry, forgot to include that info. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and the TechTool Pro suite of hardware tests.... all passed. (And yes, I had pulled everything FireWire and USB except the Apple keyboard and mouse, which were plugged directly into the Mac.) In addition to the Open Firmware "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", I also hit the CUDA switch on the motherboard. The machine is still giving me kernel panics. The only thing I haven't done yet is pull the hard drives and clean-install onto a new drive. (I hope to do that tonight.)
What's interesting is that the dim-out "You have to restart your computer" screen is gone, and has been replaced by white-on-black text generator text overwriting the GUI display, and after restart there's no "report to Apple" dialog, nor is there any log entry. Having Console and Activity Monitor show nothing out of the ordinary.
For what it's worth, I'm "forcing" the KP by running iTunes with the visualizer running, figuring that's the closest thing to me sitting at it doing stuff and waiting for it to crash out. When it panics, the music goes into a loop of the last 1/2-second of music (i.e. "dit-dit-dit-dit-dit-dit...")
Another item of note is that 10.4.0 (after clean install) and 10.4.2 do not have this problem. The panics only occur under 10.4.3 and 10.4.4.
The text of the white-on-black text is retyped as follows. Notice that the DAR record is the only thing different between the two:

  • Kernel Panic Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 CC14 MAC PRO 10.9.4 mavericks

I get kernels panics constantly when using CC14 lightroom and photoshop.. And this is causing  me to loose thousands of dollars. I have searched for months have lost thousands of dollars in work, have trued to contact support only to be sent to community forums which i get no response...o
    THEREFORE.....
Allow me to waste more time by contacting this unresponsive company.
i  constantly get Kernel Panics when using CC14 associated with my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048  while using cc14 photoshop and lightroom since I updated to Maverick 10.9.4.
I have been searching for fixes for months, i have updated everything, every driver,  and this has costed me THOUSANDS of dollars in pay i am unable to receive because my %^&* computer keeps crashing.
Now i am pissed! I have consulted APPLE and  even after pushing me up to the top level.  they still read off a piece of paper. ! i just wanted to go back to osx before mavericks which i was having NO ISSUES but no one seem to have a clue at apple how to even turn one on.
    1. i am NOT doing a master restore and I NEVER had a problem before Mavericks and CC14!!!
    2. Every driver is updated every firmware is updated
    3. there is NOTHING RUNNING IN HTE BACKGROUND
    4. i did an smc and reset pram
    5. ran disk utility -- no problems
    6. searched for answers for months.
    7. and by the way..... photoshop cc14 does not save your work on a crash. it saves what you already saved
I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO GET ANSWERS WHEN I ONLY GET IGNORED.
this is an issue with my nvidia quadro pro 4000 video card and -- adobe and - mavericks.
MY system is high end, mac pro 5,1 Processor  2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Late 2010 20 gig ram, quadro pro 4000 and an APPLE SSD TS512B
    solid state
and i spent 10 gran on this system. I am a professional and this is my BUSINESS... my only income.  not a kid playing games.
The video card was over a 1000.00!  Nvidia? ADOBE?
This needs to be fixed. this is my livelihood

Thanks for responding....of course I mean adobe. A community forum is NOT a company.
I read the link to the thread and this person says an application CANNOT cause kernel panics -- well Apple begs to differ. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
I have my own photography studio, ive spent over a half million dollars on my education (2 masters degrees) my equipment, and traveling the world to various workshops. I spend some evening researching new technology to stay on top of my craft but what I dont do and dont have time to do is follow forums regularly.
Therefore i dont know that this person has repeatedly said the same thing over and over in different threads about applications causing KP.
You suggested that I take my trouble shooting somewhere else...trust me this is not the first place ive tried to get answer.s I have been trying to resolve this issue since i updated to 10.9.4 and CC 14 and Nvidia Quadro pro 4000. It  has been months of phone calls research, forums, talking to anyone i know that knows anything and  I have lost thousands of dollars.  My digital lab ran perfect before the updates.
    so......
First...I DISAGREE with the guy in the thread because what he wrote is just his opinion. It doesnt matter wjho he works for, it a person converses a fact with NO REFERENCES then it looses credibility.  I always include a reference when I make a statement to anyone
second: as i said in my discussion -- i have done everything and the only time i get kernel panics is when using photoshop - nothing else running in the background, and the issue is with the video card drivers , 10.9.4 and photoshop and lightroom CC14.
lastly; I know my video card is fine because Ive had photoshoots where i tethered (as I alwasy do) to Phocus software for my Hasselblad H4d and there is never a crash or kernel panic issue. ever.
I ONLY GET KERNEL PANICS WHEN I USE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OR LIGHTROOM  CC14 AND IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I UPDATED TO 10.9.4 AND CC14
apple told me to do a restore --  they were just reading  me what they were supposed to say.

  • Kernel Panic Happened On Newly Brought 15-inch (i7 model) Macbook Pro

Kernel panic happened twice since I using my newly brought Macbook Pro for a few days. I hope someone or apple staff can help. This is very annoying and I get stuck on my work because of this. I going thru several generation of macs already and I hope I will not feel disappointed about the latest one...
I'm working on music so the major application I'm running are Logic/Protools/Native Instrument Software/East West Software. I didn't install any third-party hardware device (expect using external HD for storage) and this is my machine config:

Kernel Panic happened 2 times when I'm running Logic and browsing thru safari. That particular website contain online streaming audio (not background audio that loaded automatically). Here the Kernel Panic log I got:

Hi all fellows. First of all thanks for your reply!
I'm having the newest model as well (i.e. running OS 10.6.5) with upgraded i7 to 2.8G. I didn't change or added any RAM so it just running with the factory one. And of course I didn't do anything on hardware installation/replacement as well (just USB/Firewire device which for sure I tried to unplug all and see if problem persist). I run the EXTENDED Apple Hardware Test already and it found no problem...
Like all user and apple suggested I update everything from software update and also the EFI firmware which apple say it making issue on freezing system (according to the list from apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 I don't actually need to do so but I just download and run the installer). I tried to run the disk utilities and it report problem. So I start up the MBP from installation disk and run disk utilities to repair it. It said repaired successfully and I verify the disk again and it report "appear to be OK". However, kernel panic again...
I'm wondering if it something related to safari too! Since for the 2 kernel panic I experience (in 3 days use of a brand new MBP) it react instantly when I browse that website. And it happen after I installed the latest version of FLASH player (version 10). Sure I have installed quite a number of application as well Logic/Protools/NI Software/East West Software...etc but I have the exactly same set of application on my Macbook (intel core 2 duo 2008 black model with OS 10.5.8) and it so fine and solid thru the years...
I'm not a mac expert but it sounds like something goes wrong with compatibilities between application and the latest OS. I'm not planned to do clean reinstall or exchange for a new machine since the problem may persist if my guessing is right. And I'm in middle of my work so I can't bare spend a few days to setup everything again...
What I going to do now is backup the whole system and projects. Try to buy and run a more powerful disk repair application and rebuild the disk. Hope it works for the moment...wish me luck...

  • Time Machine Restore Leads to Kernel Panic and Time Machine Inaccuracies

Last night I had to do a full restore from time machine because I had disturbed system files. So I boot in the OSX disk and run time machine from utilities to a time before I messed things up. After it finishes I restart as the screen prompts me to do and I get in a kernel panic restart cycle.
So I reinstall snow leopard from the disk, and for some reason instead of being formatted everything appears as it did at the beginning of summer (I've had Snow Leopard since it came out). So I boot in the disk and try a time machine full restore to a different backup, and after it completes I again get into the kernel panic restart cycle.
So I reinstall snow leopard to the same effect, thinking I'll just go into time machine (star wars interface) and manually update all the important files, but even though I have regular updates that run all the way to may, they are inaccurate. For instance: my downloads folder remains identical in all of them, even though it is altered almost daily, also my documents don't change: for instance an essay I'm working on doesn't contain changes which I made and through all of the time machine backups has not been modified since may 10th (quite wrong). But oddly, programs which I had installed recently remain on the computer.
Disk Utility and Disk Warrior both report my internal hard drive and my external hard drive (where the time machine backups are stored in their own partition) are intact.
All I want is data restoration, and none of my methods have worked.... if there is a workaround to my time machine kernel panic issue and time machine would give an accurate restoration then I would do this... hopefully some of you have ideas... Thanks.
    Running:
    Macbook 2.13 Ghz
    2 gb ram
was running the most recent edition of Snow Leopard, after restore I'm running the original OSX 10.6

You might try the following to repair permissions in your Home folder. Disk Utility does not repair permissions in the Home folder.
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • MacPro 4,1 with ATI 5870 Kernel Panics with logs

    Hello,
My system is a MacPro 4,1 with 8GB of RAM, 4 Internal HDs, and an Apple ATI 5870 video card that I upgraded to from the stock Nvidia GT120 a little over a year ago.  I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
I've had very little problems with kernel panics in the past, but in the past few days, the screen just goes blank without warning and I need to force a power down and restart the computer.  It hangs in safe mode, in diagnostic mode and sometimes even during the startup process.  It never goes for more than 10-15 minutes now without a kernel panic.
I have zapped the PRAM, run the TechTool Pro memory test, fixed the disk permissions and the boot drive to no avail.  I even pressed the hardware SMC reset switch on the motherboard which I thought fixed the problem but a crash occured a soon after.
As a last resort, I removed the 5870 and re-installed the GT120 and things seem to be working fine, although video performance is obviously highly degraded.
Although I seem to know the the 5870 video card is the cause of these panics, I am unsure of why they suddenly began a few days ago.  Does anyone have any suggestions or similar bad experiences with this card?  Can it be repaired?  Are there any fixes for this problem?  Can you run diagnostics or fix the firmware on the card?  The card is very expensive and no longer under warranty.  I did notice that one of the gold contacts may be a little damaged, but I can't be sure.
I'm including two of the many logs I've saved.  I can attach more if need be.
    thanks,
    Nick

    thank you

What software is running when this happens? Does it happen at random, or only when you do some specific action? Can you provide more information about your system? Does it have any PCI cards installed? How about USB devices? Or FireWire? Extra RAM? Those kinds of things might help to point to a cause.
The cause is an "Uncorrectable machine check". That would seem to imply something wrong with hardware. If you search the 'net, you'll see that mentioned in connection with bad RAM, bad processor cache, bad or poorly seated AirPort cards. There's also a post or two that mention a conflict with Tiger and a recent version of Virtual PC causing that message in a panic log.
This page has a detailed guide to resolving kernel panics. Start at the top and run through the steps and see if anything turns up. Pay special attention to the part about running the Apple Hardware Test, since your panic log mentions a "machine check".

  • Kernel panics in 10.7.4 (also in safe & recovery mode, stay after re-install)

My late 2010 Macbook Pro (*) started to have random kernel panics while normal use, but not triggered by something specific, after the 10.7.4 update. The panics became more and more frequent. Resetting PVRAM, repair disk, etc did not help. The kernel panic even appeared when starting from the Snow Leopard install DVD.
Nevertheless, Apple retail store people  checked the Macbook and said it must be a software issue. They asked me to reinstall Lion, which I did. The kernel panics reappeared after a day of use.
Now, the kernel panics are even more frequent, preventing any normal usage, and also appear in recovery mode. Occasionally, the Macbook does not start at all and beeps (single beeps with 5 second pause).
Any help or hint would be much appreciated!
    (*) Macbook Pro 13.3 as from Apple with unmodified hardware (500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400, 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRM - 2x2GB, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).

Thanks, I did and they now indeed suspect a hardware issue, which remains to be seen.
Meanwhile I managed to copy over the system.log and kernel.log (though I could not find any panic log).
Would they be of any help?

  • Intermittent Kernel Panics - maybe related to iTunes? Something else?

I have been experiencing intermittent kernel panics the past few weeks - the ones where the screen goes grey and you get the message in multiple languages telling you that you have to restart your computer. I have been trying to figure out exactly what is causing them and, thus far, have been unable to come up with a definite pattern. It does seem that I am starting to narrow things down a bit.
The panics seem to occur when I have a lot of program running simultaneously. I usually have Eudora and Safari running most of the time, and will often fire up Power Point and Word. Then, I may add Excel, Preview, maybe Acrobat or Acrobat reader - I think you get the picture. However, it SEEMS that the culprit in all of this is that if I have had iTunes running, the kernel panics are more likely to occur. However, iTunes does not have to be running at the time of the panic (although I would guess that it has been in over half of the panics I’ve experienced). It just has to have been run recently. I
I have done a lot of troubleshooting, such as running Apple Hardware Test and other utilities and everything comes up just fine. I have done all the maintenance routines, I am using Apple RAM. I have done a lot of the other voodoo that folks suggest in these cases. I have read these forums and most of the posts relating to kernel panics are not quite what I am experiencing. (I did read about some of the audio issues that folks have been experiencing and I just uninstalled the SRS iWOW plugin from iTunes and will see if that makes a difference.)
One final thing. Recently, when I get a panic, there is no record of it in any logs that I can find. Therefore, I cannot trace what was happening just before my MacBook Pro went down. I did find one log (I forget which one now) that suggested that before the most recent panic this morning the last thing logged was activity by DefaultFolder. However, that may have just been the last thing I did that was actually logged. I had stepped away from my computer and when I came back the kernel panic screen was showing.
I am guessing I may need to do a clean reinstall, but before doing that I thought I’d call upon the collective wisdom of the members of these forums. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Bob Q.

We had a kernel panic last week - iTunes (v.7) was running at the time, so was Mail, but I was building a photo album in iPhoto when it happened. After reboot (took a LONG time to boot up) We repaired permissions and went on as normal. Previously, we had a hard shut down due to a power outage (don't ask: yes of course we have a UPS, but the outage had lasted all day. when the power finally came back on, i powered up the computer and launched Mail. Then the power failed again (grrr!), and apparently, after being out all day, the battery in the UPS didn't even have enough charge for me to have time to quit Mail and power down.)
Then we began to have spontaneous Sleep syndrome: the computer would just suddenly sleep during activity. After this happened a few times, we reset the PRAM, ran the maintenance scripts using Terminal, but the problem persisted. In fact, once it went beyond sleep and shut itself down.
This week, we went into the System Errors log and found this:
    kernel[0]: IOSMUPwrController:: OverTemp notification
kernel[0]: Power Management received emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
    kernel[0]: System Sleep
kernel[0]: IOBluetoothHCIController::restartShutdownWL this is a wake from sleep
    kernel[0]: System Wake
    kernel[0]: Wake event 0020
kernel[0]: USB caused wake event (OHCI)
kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Apple ID 52 built-in: handleSelfIDInt - received quads == 0. issuing bus reset
    kernel[0]: UniNEnet::monitorLinkStatus - Link is up at 100 Mbps - Full Duplex
mDNSResponder: Repeated transitions for interface en0 (192.168.2.6); delaying packets by 5 seconds
So at this point, we're thinking that the computer was overheating. We've since cleared some space on the internal HD (we only had about 5% available) and also physical space around the unit. Haven't had the problem in two days now. Never had a second kernel panic either...
But we have heard that possibly the fan might be failing... we're still under AppleCare warranty and are thinking that we should maybe call Apple to open a trouble ticket just in case.
    your thoughts?

  • SA_MAGIC header corrupt on ZFS causing kernel panic in S11.1 SRU5.5

I have a number of Sun Fire x4500s and x4540s running S11.1 SRU5.5. One of the x4540s has recently started kernel panicking within minutes of powering on and sharing its file systems over NFS (it provides user directories for a computing cluster). If I don't share via NFS, the kernel panics do not occur.
When I run mdb on the kernel panic coredump I get:
    \> ::panicinfo
    cpu 1
    thread fffffffc80e52c20
    message

    txg_sync_thread+0x244(ffffc1c0285493c0)
thread_start+8()In doing some google searching, I'm able to infer from similar lines of code in OpenSolaris (and various ZFS derivatives) that the point of this line of code is to ensure that a ZFS block has a particular header with the correct endianness. Lines of code just prior to this swap the endianness if its is incorrect (at least in these derivatives). For example:
[ZFS corruption probably from bad RAM|https://github.com/zfsonlinux/spl/issues/157]
    [FreeBSD kernel panic|http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2012-July/068882.html]
    [ZFSOnLinux Panic|https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1303]
So basically, this assert ought to work unless the header was written to disk incorrectly. I've recently done a resilver since a disk had failed and I'm currently in the middle of a scrub with estimated 90h to go. It did fix about 12kb of mistakes on the scrub even though it was right after the resilver.
Nevertheless, I don't think this should be able to happen unless the redundant copies of this header were also corrupted.
I wrote a little script that loops over process IDs and addresses in the core dump and prints this for each
    echo $addr | awk '{print $1,"::pfiles"}' | mdb $DMPNO
The files that are open are all device files (eg./devices/pseudo/...) or things in /var, /etc, /lib, things like that. The user directories/files do not appear to be actively open in the core dump. That said, I cannot match the thread above to a process ID. So maybe there are open files that are not captured in the core dump
Since the machine will panic when I make NFS available, I am currently doing two things to try to resolve the problem:
    (1) a zpool scrub
    (2) "zfs send"ing a snapshot of every filesystem straight to /dev/null
The idea behind (2) is that eventually I'll read the bad block and force the kernel panic to happen. I'll infer from the log of the script which filesystem is bad and NFS share all the others.
You should assume that I can spell mdb, but not much more than that and everything I've done thus far has been mimicking things I have found in google searching.
Thanks for any advice the community has to help me fix the bad file/filesystem. I am happy to provide more details from mdb or whatever is needed.

The output of fmdump is below. On March 27th, 3 disks were automatically identified as having too many errors and were pulled from their zpools. I replaced them on April 2nd (I believe) and, while they were resilvering, kernel panics started happening on April 6th. After several panic / reboot cycles, I disabled NFS and have not experienced any panics sense. The resilver finished sometime on April 7th (I think) and I started a zpool scrub relatively soon thereafter.

I note a number of events on April 9th in the output of fmdump -eV. Maybe these are the scrub fixing things?

  • Dropped iBook G4 (no damage), Now Kernel Panics

I recently dropped my 4 year old iBook G4 (while it was sleeping) onto a wood table from about a foot up. When I tried restarting it, I kept getting kernel panics. So I completely reinstalled the OS (Leopard). Now I can do most tasks on the computer, but I still get kernel panics on a regular basis. I think there is clearly a hardware issue, although there is apparently NO physical damage to the machine. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive, which is the only mechanical device that could possibly be damaged by a drop, right? Reinstalling Leopard didn't really solve the problem. (I'm looking for an Apple Hardware Test disc to see if that will help diagnose the problem...)
Any words of advice? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Here are the details for the kernel panic (after I reinstalled 10.5 -- I haven't updated to 10.5.6 yet):
