Kernel panic on restart
Hi guys. Sometimes when I restart my iMac 21.5 Mid 2011 I get a kernel panic. I took the information of the kernel panic from the Console, I hope this give you some information about the origin of the issue. Everytime that happens I just shut down the computer, go away for a while and then just work fine,, but it's annoying. Thanks in advance.... My operate system is OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

can any one help me out here, tomorrow I am going to boot it into target disk mode and install from a G5 onto the powerbooks HD doing a CLEAN install and then I am going to try booting it from a DVD and doing another CLEAN intstall just cause I dont trust a firewire install for some reason. I would like to avoid all this mess if possible. ANY HELP PLEASE, either respond or email me tend0 at mac dot com. thankshaha oh man thanks for startin slow with me, but we are passed that tested RAM, start up items, prefs, tried makin a new user account, as I stated before I can not boot from a DVD/CD.. that was one of the problems so I cant run anything that involves tageting the main HDD while its mounted. I have also repaired perms, ran fsck, tried booting up DiskWarrior(didnt boot from the CD), etc. if any one knows this perticular kernel panic string and can point out what the conflict is I can resolve it but other than that I have ran the run of the mill check to see if everything is in order procedure again and again.

12-inch G4 powerbook 1.0GHz has kernel panics every restart
I have a 12-inch G4 powerbook 1.0Ghz machine that keeps having kernel panics every restart.
I have run the Apple Hardware Test, and this comes back fine saying there is nothing wrong with any of the hardware. I have reset the PRAM, and repaired the disc permissions.
I thought it might be a software issue, so I archived and re-installed the system software. Still didnt work. Then I tried the erase and install, still didnt work.
Is there anything else I can check to see what is causing the kernel panic. Anything else I can use to test the hardware to make sure. I have a bad feeling it is the logicboard even though the Apple Hardware Test said it was fine.
The kernel panic is also not even creating a log, so I cannot even let you know why it is causing the kernel panic. Any help will be much appreciatedgazo:
Glad removing the Airport Extreme card worked. You can try wiping off the contacts with a lint free cloth, and replacing the Airport card making sure it is securely seated. Sometimes heating and cooling along with the normal handling of a laptop dislodges the card enough to cause problems. If that doesn't help you will need to get a new card.

What is wrong with my user account?? Why do I get kernel panic when restart
Hi there. I got Leopard and was quite unhappy (don't think it was meant for a powerbook). So I started using Tiger again, and I flip flopped once or twice after the update came out for Leopard, thinking/hoping it would fix my problems. It didn't. I have given up on Leopard.
But, now Tiger seems to have a few problems of its own. I get the kernel panic when I restart my computer (telling me to restart), so I have to hold down the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on. Not a big deal, but if it shouldn't be doing that, I don't want it to, ya know? Never did it before Leopard.
My user account seems to be dysfunctional when it comes to downloading plug-ins for safari or firefox. I had to create a new user account and download the plug in from that account and then drag it into the HD to use it on my user account. I repaired disk permissions and booted from Tiger and did the same thing on there. After that, my user account is still not able to download that plug-in without getting errors (256)?
Is there a way to do a reinstall of Tiger from a blank slate, and be sure there won't be any problems?
Thanks!Leopard will work with your Powerbook, the question is, is all your software and hardware ready for it?
Is there a way to do a reinstall of Tiger from a blank slate, and be sure there won't be any problems?
You can start from a blank slate, but if you have a hardware problem that started to generate itself, a blank slate won't solve it. It is called an erase and install. The first thing to do is backup your data*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Once that is done at least twice, we can start looking at solutions for kernel panics*:

Help! While doing workaday tasks on my 15" MacBook Pro with 10.6, I got the dreaded slowly unfolding darkened screen with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off." Kernel panic, I guess.
In the past, in the few times this has ever happened to me, I held down the Power button as instructed, and the Mac turned off.
HOWEVER, this time around, holding down the Power button does absolutely nothing! It doesn't make the computer turn off, no matter how long I hold it down, nor if I try holding it down in combination with other keys.
Needless to say, the OS is completely frozen otherwise, and no keyboard or trackpad actions have any effect.
And since this is the new kind of MacBook Pro -- there's no way to remove the battery!
So, is the only solution, to unplug it from the power supply and simply wait for 8 hours (or whatever) until the battery runs out of juice? Say it ain't so!
(I'm writing this on someone else's computer, needless to say.)
I NEED access to my computer's files TODAY for important work-related matters. Am I out of luck, or is there some secret way to get this darn thing turned off and restarted? If you insist! :

This aritlce has some tips that should help you identify and resolve the issue.
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac restarts and a message appears
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
If your Mac restarts unexpectedly, an error known as a “kernel panic” occurred. After the restart, you’ll see a message that your computer restarted because of a problem.
The most likely cause is faulty software. A kernel panic can also be caused by damaged or incompatible hardware, including external devices attached to your Mac.
Note: To print these instructions, open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear), then choose Print.
If the kernel panic is caused by a known problem, the faulty software is identified. To make sure that this software doesn’t continue to cause kernel panics, move it to the Trash. If the faulty software is not identified and your Mac continues to experience kernel panics, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Restart the Mac in safe mode. If the Mac successfully starts up in safe mode, choose Apple menu > Software Update, then download and install any updates available for your Mac.Start up in safe mode
Uninstall any plug-ins or other enhancement software from manufacturers other than Apple. If you recently updated OS X or an app, plug-ins and other software that worked in the past may no longer be compatible. Read the manufacturer’s documentation (including Read Me notes) to be sure the software is compatible with your version of OS X.
Reset parameter random-access memory (PRAM).Reset your computer’s PRAMApple Support article: Mac OS X: What’s stored in PRAM?
Use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk or your disk permissions, or both.
Disconnect all USB and FireWire devices, except for the Apple keyboard and mouse. Remove hardware upgrades from other manufacturers, such as random–access memory (RAM) and Peripheral Component Interconnect cards. Then try restarting your Mac.If this resolves the issue, reconnect one device at a time, restarting your Mac after reconnecting each one, until you determine which device is causing the problem.
Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test. These apps can tell you if hardware you installed, such as additional memory, is incompatible, improperly installed, or defective.Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test
If the steps above don’t help, try reinstalling OS X.Reinstall OS XNote: If you moved or renamed an OS X system file or folder, you must reinstall OS X. It won’t work to just replace or rename the specific item.

Kernel Panics Forcing Restart (HELP!)
Hi, I recently purchased my first Apple computer and everything has been going great until recently. I do a lot of video editing so I have been utilizing Adobe's Master Collection.
My Macbook Pro i7 2.66 came up 4GB Ram, however, I just upgraded to 8GB 1067 DD3. I noticed after my installation of the ram I have been getting these Kernel panics which is making my system freeze and command me to restart. I have the log attached...any help will be great!

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/8566DDR3S8GP/
If you still have the RAM that originally came in the computer OWC will give take it in trade.
One last thing you can try is a PRAM reset, that might work but I doubt it. If you have never done one the instructions are:
_PRAM RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys. -
Kernel panics on restart either HDs or Optical Drive
Out of the blue I started having kernel panics (Grey screen with "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button...).
These started when trying to booth from an attached external HD (running OS 5). I could not booth from the HD.
Also started having kernel panics when I inserted the Lion CD in the cd drive. When I tried to booth from the CD to do a harware evaluation/diagnosis, I also could not booth from it.
I have a 2008 Mac Pro, 6 GB memory, running OS 10.7.5.
Otherwise I don't seen to have any problems, except thhat it seems it's taking longer tp booth up when successft with OS 10.7.5. Also Safari seems to be sluggish.
Any suggestions would be welcome. ThanksJust wanted to add to the above problem post that, apart from not being able to booth from the external firewire drive and the SuperDive, they work fine. It's just the boothing that cases a kernel panic.

TS3742 Kernel Panic/System Restart when disconnecting thunderbolt drive
I have isolated the kernel panic to the connected thunderbolt devices. More specifically, every time I disconnect an external thunderbolt drive, there is a kernel panic and the system restarts. Any ideas?
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro6,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
Processor Speed: 3.5 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 6
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 12 MB
Memory: 32 GB
Yosemite 10.10.2Are you ejecting the device before disconnecting it? If not, then you need to.

I am writting to ask for help with my old version MacBook Pro early 2008 with Kernel Panic 9C2028 10.5.2 Darwin 9.2.1. My MacBook Pro freezes up with a panic and have to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button. When I restard the comp it keep showing the same Kernel Panic. Will any body outthere heppe me get out this freezes up panic kernel Darwin 9.2.1.
Thanks YouLooks like a RAM failure or maybe another hardware failure.
Can you take out the battery and with the charger connected start up? Same failure?
Have you tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset? do both twice. -
Following an Apple Support Team member's advice, I retrieved as many files as I could and erased and repaired the HD before completing a fresh install from a bootable USB. Once I restored all of my software I set it backing up to Time Machine over night only to find that it had crashed and restarted over night before that had completed. I attach the crash report below:

You may find the troubleshooting steps toward the bottom of the article below helpful. Please keep in mind, diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

External Drive causes Kernel Panic
I've been struggling with Time Machine on a Seagate external 1TB drive. Backups have failed consistently since I upgraded to Lion, taking a really long time or generating error messages and failing.
I read Pondini ( http://pondini.org/TM/D2.html ), and tried installing http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599, which apparently worked, according to the log:

Some additional background:
I disabled spotlight on the external, except for the backups.
I had installed MicroMat's CheckMate. I'm wondering if there was some sort of collision between Checkmate and Time Machine that could have trashed the external drive.
This is a drag, because my iTunes and iPhoto libraries are also on that same external drive. I would like to find out how to recover the external drive... is there way to plug it in without it mounting in order to repair it with Disk Utility, for example? Most likely, one of these are the culprits.

Kernel panic after 10.5.8 Update
Hi,
I have the black intel Macbook which was bought slightly over a year ago. A few days ago I was prompted to do the 10.5.8 update. Software Update was doing its work and I left it running with the Macbook plugged in. About an hour later, I checked and it stated that the update failed and I have to restart. I restarted and was presented with a kernel panic and a message to restart. Restarting brings me back to the same kernel panic and restart message.
These are things that I have tried:
1) Reset PRAM.
2) Used Disk Utility off the install disk - I did a Disk Repair. It failed but gave me an option to Verify Disk. I verified the disk (by this time Repair Disk is greyed out) and got the "invalid node structure" and "Volume check failed" messages. Verified a few times and this is all I got. I tried to reinstall the OS but the installer does not see the hard disk.
3) Cmd-S for single user mode not accessible. So I can't run fcsk.
4) Tried to boot Disk Warrior CD but it went into a booting loop (chime-blue screen-blank screen-chime).
5) Used my iBook G4 800 (also running Leopard) as host with the Macbook as the firewire target. The Macbook harddisk did not mount. Disk Utility can see the harddisk but cannot access it.
6) Used Disk Warrior from the iBook through firewire target mode. Disk Warrior came back with "Directory cannot be rebuilt due to disk hardware failure (-36, 2268)".
7) Used Disk Utility off the install disk again - at first it shows SMART was ok, the number of files on the harddisk and how much space is used. Once I did a Verify Disk (the only option available), I get the "invalid node structure" error and the status on SMART, number of files and space went blank.
8) I ran Apple Hardware Test and it says everything is ok but it didn't show that a test was performed on the hard disk.
The biggest problem I have here is that I need files from that harddisk. I have no backup of those files. No Time Machine or any other form of backup. Anybody has any idea for me to try before I send it to the Apple Store people?
Thanks in advance.Hi--
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
3) Cmd-S for single user mode not accessible. So I can't run fcsk.
Do you get any error messages when you try to boot to single user mode? What happens if you just try to boot into with the verbose option (cmd-V)? Does that give you any text on the screen?
4) Tried to boot Disk Warrior CD but it went into a booting loop (chime-blue screen-blank screen-chime).
Look closely at your DiskWarrior CD and make sure it's capable of booting your Macbook. If you've had the CD, it may be too old to boot your Macbook. Check at DiskWarrior's web site (Alsoft is the company name). They used to have a pretty good listing of what version of the DW CD will boot what computer.
Steps 5,6, and 7 make me suspect a hardware failure of some kind, not just a bad upgrade.
8) I ran Apple Hardware Test and it says everything is ok but it didn't show that a test was performed on the hard disk.
The Apple Hardware Test doesn't do extensive disk testing. I suspect it just checks the controller to see if the disk is there is about all. I'm pretty sure MicroMat's TechTool Pro will perform more extensive scans on hard drives, including a surface scan. But I don't think you should do any surface scans until you get files off the drive: if you have bad blocks, a surface scan could just spread the problem across more blocks.
The biggest problem I have here is that I need files from that harddisk. I have no backup of those files. No Time Machine or any other form of backup.
In the past I had good luck with Data Rescue on an iMac whose drive failed with symptoms similar to yours:
http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
It was able to get all of the files I wanted off the drive before they swapped it out (there were a whole section that couldn't be rescued, but luckily they were audio loops installed from a DVD, so they could be restored easily enough). It didn't seem to matter that the partition wouldn't mount, either. They have a demo you can download that will tell you if it can recover any files before you pay for it.
As for backing up, trust me, there's no better feeling than being able to tell the Apple Genius that it doesn't matter what they do, you can just restore from a backup.

HT6114 Kernel Panic in OS X 10.9.2 copying a file to a file server
Hi,
i've made the update to OS X 10.9.2 3 days ago and it looked like we had all our problems with this OS X solved.
Today, I deleted from a share in a NAS (file server) a small file and tried to copy another one with the same name, but the moment the copy should start the OS X did a kernel panic and restarted the iMac.
It's a Mid 2011 27'' iMac with 8 GB RAM and the 1 TB standard HD.
The Kernel Panic report is as following:
