Kernel Panic Then Broken Bluetooth

I've used bluetooth to transfer photos and movies on and off my LG VX8600 for months, but tonight while I was doing so, my computer had a 'kernel panic' (it forced me to due a restart with the power button), and now it seems there's something wrong. My computer and phone can find one another and even seem to connect, but will not communicate correctly. When I go to browse the phone, I get the error "The last operation failed: bad request." I have never had this problem before, and now I get it every time. I have tried unpairing and repairing, but the problem persists

Feh, of course right after posting this, I figured it out.
I had an ssh-agent socket hanging around, apparently that did it.

  • Kernel panic, then x11.app won't launch.

I had a kernel panic a hour or two ago while doing a bunch of stuff (compiling pkgsrc bootstrap, running virtual pc, and surfing w/firefox), and now X11.app won't launch. The only error messages I can find are in the console log:

Any thoughts? This is right after a clean reboot, too...

  • 1st Kernel Panic, then repeated freezing...

Hey I have a G5 tower and randomy since last night my computer did that whole kernel panic thing then i restarted... sometimes it didnt boot up the computer just sat there. Other times it loaded and the computer would work for sometimes 5 to 30 mins before freezing again. What do you think it is?
Do i have to verify disk permission? Do i need more harddrive space?
    thanks!

There is no doubt from the symptoms given that you have an issue with the Logic Board and/or Processor. Like Thomas Bryant said, "Kernal panics are most often hardware related... the fact that it doesn't want to run the install disc. I'd pull some ram and try again"
    Alternative Root?
Try pulling one RAM module at a time. *If you only have one RAM module, get a hold of another one to test with.*
However, I'm convinced that if more than one person is telling you Logic Board/Processor, and if Apple themselves are telling you Logic Board/Processor... your computer is more likely to have a problem with the Logic Board/Processor.
    Cheers

  • Kernel panics on new MBP 2.66 I7 - mostly bluetooth

    Hi -
I've been through the forums and can't seem to find this problem anywhere else; if I've missed it and it's solved - please redirect me. tx!
I received a 15" 2.66 i7 from Apple at the end of November 2010 as an applecare replacement for my mid-2008 2.6 MBP.
Since then I've been getting kernel panics related to bluetooth(first one 3 days after I got it) which are fairly random but increasing in frequency (4 in the last 3 weeks), and had abysmal wifi performance. It holds a connection while busy streaming or downloading just fine, but if I'm using sporadically (ie surfing) it drops, and the range is very poor(about half what my old MBP had). As I recently discovered this generation of MBP now combines the bluetooth and airport cards (4 senior techs I spoke with over the last 2 months at apple didn't know that).
I have Applecare and I've been making a nuisance of myself to apple, but we're getting nowhere. It passes all hardware tests, and since I can't make it panic on command they haven't been willing to see a problem. But the continuing panics indicate otherwise.
This is what has been done so far:
    SMC reset
    PRam Zap
    Safe start
Apple hardware tests - short and long - too many to count - all passed
Verify/Repair permissions - just the get usual java nonsense.
    Disk Verify - no problems
(3x) System wipe (w/zero pass to be sure) & reinstall system & all software cleanly from original disk. 3rd party software is Adobe CS, Microsoft office and Skype ONLY (has panic'd with only Adobe).
Capture data & all panic errors (I keep them) sent to apple engineering - also 3 times. The only suggestion they've come back with is possibly 3rd party hardware. I don't have any. My bluetooth are an apple wireless mighty mouse & wireless keyboard.
I've taken it to an ASP for diagnosis, and after days of testing they couldn't find a hardware problem. I finally had a bit of a tantrum with apple (not something I'm proud of, but after 2 months something had to be done) and they agreed to replace the bluetooth card. It wasn't until the asp ordered the part that anyone realized it was now combined w/airport.
The bluetooth/airport card replacement was done 7 days ago. To ensure there would be no left over effects from previous panics, I wiped my drive and reloaded my system & all software to give everything a clean start, hoping it would now all be rainbows and sunshine. (note - I copy all data files off manually to an external drive rather than backup/restore so I know exactly what is on my machine & where it is).
Two days ago, after powering the machine on and getting as far as loading safari, it seemed to stall for a few seconds, flashed a blue screen and went instantly dead. It powered back on just fine (no incorrect shutdown message) and seemed to work normally. I called applecare and pretty much got "it happens." After extended use and a load of 3rd party software it does, but right after a clean install....
A few hours later, another bluetooth kernel panic. The system is 'flakey'.... I have random things that I can't reproduce (yesterday it 'restarted' part way through startup....?)...
I'll post the most recent panic log. They all seem to be about the same( panic(cpu # varies ) and occur when I'm using safari although not necessarily loading anything (one happened when I wasn't even in the room).
*I did also have a graphics-related kernel panic after a clean install, but only one. Unless it happens again I won't worry about it.
*When this problem started in December it was with 10.6.5, and has continued with 10.6.6
Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated....
    sorry to be so wordy-
    cheers!
    J
Adobe CS & Microsoft Office only software loaded, apple wireless mighty mouse & wireless keyboard only extra hardware (though not in use at the time).

Thanks for you time and help!
I am confident it's not OSx corruption at any rate; it's just been reinstalled too many times for it to have garbled the same way each time. If it's just coded badly or incompatible there's nothing I can do about it. The only 3rd party software on this machine is Adobe and MSOffice, and they certainly shouldn't cause problems.
I took my mouse & keyboard with me to the ASP when it went for testing as that is a logical place to look, but they declined the need and didn't try them. When it panics I'm usually on the edge of the range of the mouse/keyboard and I will often see sporadic connect/disconnect messages. However, this happens quite a bit in relation to how often I get panics so could easily be unrelated. I mentioned this to the ASP but they didn't consider it relevant.
RAM's a likely culprit on new machines and test are notorious for not finding it (I ran Rember a while back -passed), but again the ASP pointed to bluetooth and said it was unlikely.
I think at this point I have to just dig in with apple and insist they diagnose and fix (with a timeline), or replace. Even if they don't replace it, if it motivates them and it gets fixed we'll have a solution.
    Thanks again for your help-

  • MAC kernel panic after Mountain Lion install

Mac Kernel Panic has now started on my tower after i installed Moountain Lion.
I could not live with it and run my business so i had to get a new machine.
The tempertures are running the same on the new machine so it is NOT the temperture.
Apple support tried replacing one of my Nvita graphics cards to no avail.
Now they want to replace the second one.
    Really??
    What do you think???

Disconnect all external devices besides Apple keyboard and mouse, then see what happens.
If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices.

  • Recurring kernel panic - possible 8800GT hang?

Hope you can help me out. I think I have a problem with the 8800GT in my macpro3.1. I got the machine as a refurb/off-lease about a month ago. All checked out fine in TechTool 6, and I've been using it with no problems.
Two days ago started having flickering screen...horizontal blanking-out...then kernel panic, then stuck at grey screen. Happened in both OS 10.6.8 and 10.8.3, and also after starting up with TechTool (OS 6.7). I don't have an AHT disc, but was able to run the video memory test in TechTool, which passed, before it crashed.
If the card was overheating would that explain being able to start-up, run for a bit, then crash, and not start-up again?
Long shot...the machine came without the stock Apple power cord, just an 18awg power cord, but it should handle up to 9 amps?
Managed to access the KP log - attached. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't get past Kernel Panic!

I left my macbook running acquistion yesterday for about 2 hours and when I returned I could not wake it from sleep. I forced a shutdown holding the power button and now every time I turn on the macbook I am instructed to restart it, in several different languages. This screen comes up just after the "ping" when I turn it on and after the apple logo appears.
So far I have tried taking the battery out and holding the power button down for 5 seconds. Resetting the PRAM with "apple" "option" "p" and "r". Restarting in safe mode holding the "shift" key. Attempting to reboot from the instal CD disk 1 holding either the "option" key, the "x" key or the "c" key - when I do this the spinning gear appears for about 90 seconds and then reverts back to the restart kernel panic screen. I have also tried starting from the power source alone without the battery inseted. No Luck. And I ran a check of the hardware, holdig dowm the "d" key on start up with the disk inserted. No problems found.
I have no other external devices attached and I have made no modifactions to my Core 2 duo macbook that I got out of the box 3 weeks ago.
I am going to take it down to the store tomorrow unless anyone can think of a fix I have not yet tried.
    Thank you for your help!

Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD. If you still get the kernel panic, then you have a major hardware problem. Take it in for service.
If you can boot successfully from the Snow Leopard DVD:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now, boot the computer into Safe Mode and operate for a while to see if the kernel panics cease. You can
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Also, see OS X- How to log a kernel panic. Locate the panic log and post it here for us to examine.

  • Kernel panic after Mountain Lion download?

After I downloaded Mountain Lion on my older MB Pro 17", (which was running Lion 10.7.4 previously), upon the Restart that goes with the install, I got a Kernel Panic screen, telling me to restart again, which I did, returning to the same condition. I tried a Cmd-R restart and performed Disk Repair from Disk Utilities, then re-downloaded ML, but then got the same result.
For what it's worth: Here's the Kernel ID showing on my paralyzed screen:
    Kernel UUID: A8ED611D-FB0F-3729-8392-E7A32C5E7D74
    System model name: MacBookPro5,2 (Mac-F2268EC8)
Is my build too old for the Mountain Lion install?

Disconnect all external devices besides Apple keyboard and mouse, then see what happens.
If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices.

  • No "Low Battery" warning on new (November 07) MacBook - Kernel Panic

    Hello,
I'm not sure is this is the right forum for this, but since the problem occurs during a specific battery state, I'm going to post it here.
I just got one of the new November 07 MacBooks. The machine is great, and screams with the pre-installed Leopard.
First thing I did was plug it in to charge as I started configuring software. Once it was fully charged, I pulled the plug, and began using it on battery. My plan was to calibrate the battery, by running it all the way until it forced a sleep, then shutting down and plugging it in again, as Apple recommends.
Problem is, I never got the "Low Battery" warning, or even the sleep warning. At around 10 minutes of power left, I simply got a kernel panic. A few seconds later, the laptop just switched off.
I plugged in again for a few minutes, then ran it down again to see if I could reproduce the error, and I did get the low battery warning.
The next time the battery ran down, it gave me the kernel panic.
Is this happening to anyone else? Is it a new MacBook problem, or a leopard power management problem? I'm having no other issues at all with the MacBook or Leopard. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm a little hesitant to force a firmware update on a MacBook it wasn't meant for. These are brand new models, and I would think Apple didn't ship them with the known faulty batteries or bad firmware.
The frustrating thing is I have no way of knowing who the culprit is. Is it the brand new OS that I'm sure has a fair share of bugs? Is it the new hardware having a power control issue? Or is it a combination of Leopard and the new hardware? I was hoping to find some users who had the same problem so I could narrow it down. Battery drains out, kernel panic, then the machine shuts off after a few seconds. Funny thing is, the indicator says I have like 10 minutes or so left, but it appears that the battery must be completely dead, since it forces a panic and the machine just dies. So it might be a calibration error. The Mac thinks it has some juice, but in reality it's just about dead.
I made an appointment for the Apple store tomorrow, so we'll see what they have to say. It's otherwise running beautifully, thankfully.

  • Major Problem with kernel panic on new iMac: HELP!

My housemates 24" core 2 duo imac kernel panicked when playing Call of duty 2 (side question: if anyone has any reason why it keeps freezing and the screen getting full of horizontal lines would love to hear from you)
Now I can not start the computer. Whenever I restart, it plays the chime, but then has another kernel panic. Spoke to apple.. i reset the pram.. and then it came back.. ive zero data deleted my hardrive then re-installed osx.. and it is still doing it!! (i ran hardware tests and said everything was working fine..)
The graphics card is nvidia 7600GT
Also.. When starting up the imac, just after the apple logo white screen turns to the desktop, the screen flashes a lime green for a split second.. i know that shouldnt happen!
It wont let me send a report to apple wen i get a window saying "imac shut down unexpectantly".. when the button clicks.. no report comes up.
The operating is a 24" 2.16 Ghz iMac intel 2 core duo, 1GB RAM!
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I had the same problems. New iMac 24" arrived last week (a replacement because the first one had a faulty screen and keyboard). Set it up at the weekend and it seemed fine for 48 hours until I started watching a DVD on Christmas Day. About 2 minutes into the DVD I got a kernel panic, then the computer would not restart. I left it about an hour and tried again. It started successfully, but had another kernel panic when I opened the Dashboard. Again, it failed to restart. I think that something is overheating whenever the computer tries to do any 'work' and then it crashes. I too got panics when trying to boot from the installation disc. Spoke to customer support over the phone and nothing we tried worked, so I've had to send back for another replacement system.

Backups and redundancy aren't synonyms. RAID is about availability, never about data security.
    +100
Incremental backups are good for anything that changes just a bit every day, like my personal docs. Instead of backing up my music collection every day, I have an additional 50KB of compressed txt files to back up.

  • Kernel Panics-repeated.

    Hi,
I have had repeated kernel panics on my 2012 11 inch macbook air.  All software and firmware are up to date.  Checks using Disk Utility and TechTool Pro 6  have revealed no errors.  The usb ports on the  macbook air have also stopped working several times, and I have to restart the computer to get them to work.
Here is the latest kernel panic log:

  • Kernel Panic on Mounting volume read and write

First I installed Windows with Boot Camp and Windows, than installed Parallels for the Mac, and it booted windows. As it was configuring Windows to be used with Parallels it froze the machine, and the only choice I had was to reboot the system by holding down the power button.
Now, each time I boot it up Darwin panics. After a call to apple support, I booted it into single user mode, and checked with fsck and it said it was fine. I than tried rebooted it and got the verbose message, and it happened when it attempted to mount the disk.
I went Back into single user mode. I tried to remount the partition read/write and it caused a panic. I think the partition is corrupt and I was wondering what I can do since it does the same thing on the install disk. Are there any Apple or open source solutions that may help me fix this disk?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you try to boot from the OS X Installer Disc and the computer panics then the problem is more likely hardware related.
You might try getting to the diagnostics: Insert the OS X Installer Disc One into the optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended diagnostics.
If you are unable to do even this without a kernel panic then take the computer in for repair.

  • 2010 mac mini kernel panics with kg os, mlb, ram, powersupply, etc what now?

This is Rodney Watson. tch id(sc28f02f0b). Please contact me at********** I have no access to tsps. I have no contact information that successfully gets me feedback and I very much would love to get this machine back to its owner within two weeks if possible. I have a file of crash reports and other potentially useful data regarding this repair.
The initial issue with the system was that after a short time on a browser, the system would kernel panic, then the system would restart. I tried the quick fixes, resets, (updates are current for the user's volume) I tried a startup volume with a known good operating system, (OS X 10.8.3). I used known good ram, power supply, logic board,  hard drive w fresh install of OS X 10.8.3. I still get the same behavior from thi sunit. It either boots to the desktop and crashes and restarts only to kernel panic and restart again, or it never gets to the desktop and repeatedly crashes/ restarts.

Hmmm, which exact Mini is it, a 2010 Mini should take 16 GB of RAM... but not just any  RAM...

  • Readynas duo mounted over ethernet causes kernel panics

I've found out what is causing kernel panics on my machines, but i'm not sure how to resolve it. I have a g4 laptop and a new mac mini, both mount the readynas via mount_afp using a LoginHook. When the laptop or the mini go to sleep, the ethernet connection is powered off and at some point the readynas goes to sleep as well. So, when the laptop/mini wake from sleep, they have trouble re-establishing the mount to the readynas (as it needs time to spin it's drives up) and then the laptop/mini kernel panic...shouldn't this really be just a lost connection message, rather than a full fledged panic!

This is where we have a difference of opinion...If i can mount an external box over ethernet/firewire/usb and it causes the machine to kernel panic, then the software is not robust enough to handle the exception cases. Running 10.4.x for years with the same external hardware never yielded such results.
