Kernel panic updating to 10.7.1 or 10.7.2... (mac mini 4,1)

I have this problem since 10.7.1 came up and tried to upgrade; mac restarts to a kernel panic and have to restore a backup. At first I thought that when 10.7.2 became available it would solve it but still get the kernel panic at startup. I've tried downloading 10.7.2 to a LaCie firewire drive to do a clean install on my mac mini's hard drive but still get a kernel panic when it starts up from the installer on the LaCie.
Whatever I've found and read in discussions around the internet haven't helped. I appreciate somebody's help!
This is the log I get:

As I said, the LaCie may be at fault.  Run the hardware test that came with the computer to eliminate a built-in hardware issue, except possibly the RAM.  The test is found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If you have nothing attached to the computer except Apple keyboard wired, mouse wired, and any display, and persist in getting four language screens even when booted off DVD that came with the computer, then you likely have a RAM issue if the hardware test can't detect anything.

  • Can't install the 1.5.2 update to DVDSP 1.5 on my 1.42 Mac Mini - G4 error?

    I have a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 Mack Mini running OS X 10.4.5
I try to update DVD SP 1.5 to 1.5.2 and it states:
"DVD Studio Pro Updater cannot be installed on this computer. DVD Studio Pro is only supported on G4 processors."
I've installed the ProAppRuntime 3.1. But cannot update DVDSP.

Thanks. I deleted every trace of DVD Studio Pro 1.5 off my Mac Mini. I've been modding the iDVDs Themes to do what I want, so I will never have to worry about Apple not supporting their own Pro programs ever again. IMHO paying money for a Pro App that expires in 2-3 years is insane.
Apple: make a version of DVD SP that is between Pro and iDVD like you did for FCP. Here's an excellent idea for a name: DVD Studio Express.

  • Network connection timed out during iPhone4 update to ios 7.1.2 in iTunes on mac mini

I've tried several times to update my iPhone 4 to the iOS 7.1.2 update using iTunes on my Mac mini.  Each time, after about an hour or two, I get the message that the network connection has timed out.  I don't have any security software installed, so that can't be the issue.  I have the most recent version of iTunes, so that can't be it either.  I can't update directly on my phone, because I don't have enough space left.  Any suggestions as to why the network is timing out??
Thanks for anyone's help in advance.

simple hold the power button and the home button for 15 seconds and release the home to the iphone to turn on.
them try to connect to the computer in the itunes and when ask to update you choose to only download not update , when finish update the iphone .

  • Updating my ipod leads to a kernel panic

Hey guys, Im down to my last strand of hair so would really appreciate some advice. Basically the other day I came to update my Ipod, I had 3 extra albums to put on. When the updater comes to this one particular album my computer suffers a kernel panic and I have to shut down. I know this may sound silly, but can a corrupt mp3 or something really cause a kernel panic?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • MacBook Pro getting constant kernel panics right since updating to 10.8.5

    Hello,
I have my personal MacBook Pro and I've noticed that since I've updated the OS to Mountain Lion, I'm getting kernel panics for the first time since I've been using Macs, and it's getting more constant, up to the poin I've just had 3 in a row.
I've been reading that MacBooks from Mid 2011 may have a problem with the graphic card, and as far as I remember, I got mine about that time, and all my .panic files seem to point into the GPU direction.
I have the panic files for the panics that happened this last month, and I'm copying the last one, that happened just 15 minutes ago.

Is this one of those Macbooks or this may be a different problem?
    Thank you

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair. The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • IMac 7,1 running 10.5.8 can not access recovery mode, during update to 10.6.8 kernel panic

    Good day everybody.
I'm facing next issue. Having iMac v.7,1 running 10.5.8. EFI and SMC firmware update is done.
Trying to update to 10.6.8 thru bootable USB drive. After rebooting showing kernel panic. Made Apple Hardware Test (long one, took around 90 mins) no issues found. Trying booting in Single User Mode, showing "0x7" error.
My attempts to boot in Recovery Mode (cmd+r) completely ignored. Im not sure if there is one.
I tried to Boot in Recovery Mode via Bootable USB with 10.6.8 on it, holding "option" (alt) button, two scenarios, other complete ignore and keep booting to login screen OR again same Kernel Panic.
    Guys need some help.
Im ready to change parts, but no idea was that HD or RAM or whatever else.
    Some photos attached.
    Thanks to everybody in advance.

Recovery mode is only available in Lion (10.7) and later OSs. You can only upgrade to Snow Leopard by booting with an SL disc. You can get it from http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • 2007 Macbook pro kernel panic, hard drive problem?

    Hello!
I've been trying to sort this for a few weeks now, and I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the situation.
    Problem:
I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 15/2.2/2GB/120GB) which a few weeks ago suddenly died on me. It has what I believe is called a kernel panic. On startup a grey screen falls down with a box saying that I need to restart the computer.
I took it to my local apple store where they booted an OSX (not sure which) from an external drive (I think it was using a firewire cable). The MacBook appeared to work fine from this external hard drive, but when disk utility was run on the internal hard drive, the disk utility eventually froze.
Based on this info, the guy there deduced (fairly reasonably I suppose) that the problem must be my hard drive, and replacing my hard drive should solve this. So  bought a
    Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,6.35 cm (2.5").
The equipment I now have to try and get my MacBook to work:
    - An iMac 2.7 Ghz i5 (8gb Ram) running Mac OSX 10.7.5
    - A replacement hard drive for the MacBook (Seagate Momentus)
    - A SATA HArd drive USB docking station
    - A 500gb iOmega Hard drive with Firewire 800 cables
    - The 2 original install disks for Tiger that came with the MacBook Pro
    - A working .dmg of retail snow leopard
What I have tried so far:
I have formatted the replacement hard drive correctly (GUID) for Mac OSX. If I turn the macbook pro on with the new hard drive in, a folder icon with a question mark in it flashes in the middle of the screen... If I put in the original install disk, it starts to read it (apple logo and spinning wheel) and then eventually kernel panics. When I hold option on start up, the 'Mac OSX Install Disk 1" is the only option available (the cd/dvd drive must be working if it recognises the disk here i assume?) but when I select it, it spins for a bit, then kernel panics.
My next approach was to try and create an installable and bootable version of an OSX on an external hard drive. (I have tried this with both the original Tiger install disk, and with the leopard.dmg)... I followed the readily available instructions online on how to do this, and was able to restore the first partion on the external hard drive with the OSX install disk image.... The problem I have then face is installing the osx onto the second partition.
This seems to be because my newish iMac/OSX wont let me boot any OSX installer CD/firewire or otherwise, other than the original operating system for the iMac.
I thought this wouldn't matter, as I would be able to run the installer when I plugged the iOmega into my MacBook pro. The problem I now have is that the Macbook wont recogninise the iOmega when it is connected by firewire. It will only recognise it when connected by USB, but when I try and run the installer, it spins for a while then kernel panics. I believe this is because MacBook pros of this age will only run OSX Install/bootable through firewire.
So... hardware wise, could this be anything other than a problem with the hard drive? As we know the MacBook pro will boot from an external drive...
If anyone has actually managed to read this far into this incredibly boring, waffling description of my problem, I am already grateful, and if anyone can give any help or advice at all regarding this, I will be eternally in your debt....
    Thank you

    I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 15/2.2/2GB/120GB)
    The MacBook Pro 3,1
    So I bought a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,6.35 cm (2.5").
Right the standard hard drive (not the XT which is a hybrid and can be problematic)
a folder icon with a question mark in it flashes in the middle of the screen...
That's the firmware telling you it can't find the/a bootable OS.
The 2 original install disks for Tiger that came with the MacBook Pro
If I put in the original install disk, it starts to read it (apple logo and spinning wheel) and then eventually kernel panics
but when I select it, it spins for a bit, then kernel panics.
Your machines firmware was updated, it will only now boot from 10.6 either on a bootable USB thumb drive or via the white 10.6.3 retail disks you can get by calling Apple by phone.
This seems to be because my newish iMac/OSX wont let me boot any OSX installer CD/firewire or otherwise, other than the original operating system for the iMac.
True. If the iMac could boot from the 10.6.3 disk, then you could install 10.6.3 via Firewire Target Disk Mode onto the other Mac if for instance the Superdrive didn't work.
MacBook pros of this age will only run OSX Install/bootable through firewire.
    True.
Just order the 10.6.3 white retail disk from Apple via phone, forget 10.4 and 10.5 as they are not getting updates anyway.
However you can extract iLife from the 10.4/10.5 machine specific disks using Pacifist from CharlesSoft.
    Follow these install instructions
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6

  • My solution to kernel panics with Flash player 10.2

I'm running 10.6.7 on my iMac with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card and I've been going through the grinder with Safari crashing when viewing Flash videos. Sometimes it works and other times it just greys the screen and I have to do a full restart on the power button which can't be doing the drive and OS any good. I tried downloading the beta version of Flash player 10.3 but the same problem occurs.
My solution was just to right click on any Flash movie, go to settings in the Flash preferences that appear and disable hardware acceleration. By the iStats menu I have installed I can see the CPU starts taking the load again as opposed to the GPU and this seem to have stopped the infuriating crashes... so far. Not convinced until I test it some more but early signs look promising.
It's a nice feature using the GPU to take the load but I can only assume that my iMac's graphics card must be unsupported in the latest Flash player and after a while it just wraps up the OS in a kernel panic. It's bad that it freezes the whole Mac instead of just crashing Safari though.
Hopefully it works for others if you have the same problem.
    Cheers
    Gaz

    OMG you are so awesome!
I've been trying to solve this for 2 days now. I've done every virus/spyware scan known to man, reinstalled flash atleast 3 times, install all the windows updates and have searched around the internet for just as long trying to find the answer. I was about an hour away from just completely reinstalling windows to try and fix this problem!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU! <3

    Hey weichunqian,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help in troubleshooting Kernal Panic’s for OS X Mavericks:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with the Mac itself. They are usually caused by software that was installed, or a problem with connected hardware.
To help avoid kernel panics, install all available software updates until Software Update reports, "Your software is up to date." OS X updates help your Mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. For most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do.
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.  If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • WD Hard drive causing Kernel Panics

I recently came home to find one of my hard drives missing from the desktop, I restarted and the drive reappeared. Ran Disk Utility on the drive and it's reported as fine, also S.M.A.R.T. says its fine. But within 2 to 6 minutes the computer will kernel panic (sometimes only getting a 3rd of the way down the screen), panic.log is never updated either so I can't post that info. I've reset PRAM to no avail. When I restart the drive sometimes doesn't appear at all or takes some time to appear.
The only thing that stops the kernel panic is to remove the offending 500GB Western Digital sata in bay 3. I need to to get the information off of that drive but can't keep the computer on long enough before a KP happens again. Disk Warrior and Drive Genius report no errors though running a hardware test in Disk Warrior immediately freezes the machine.
Occasionally the drive will appear and occasionally it won't show up anywhere - not even Disk Utility. I must have some sort of HD controller issue with the drive.
Does anyone know how I could get the info from the drive - maybe put it into a USB caddy? Anyone else experienced anything like this? It certainly doesn't seem very common.

Thanks, The hatter, I'll get a enclosure tomorrow, I need the data off the drive more than anything else. Perfectly happy to trash said WD drive afterwards, I've come close already
I only get k/ps when drive is in bay. Drive occasionally won't show up with Disk Utility and sometimes will, which strikes me that it's a serious hardware problem. Root mode boot and safe mode change nothing - sometimes I'll get a Kernel panic while the apple logo is still showing. Take drive out and system is perfectly fine.
Have started to get data off but get k/p after about 5 mins so will take a while. Some is backed up (it's my iTunes library but I backed it up 4 months ago), but could do with around 250Gb of raw firewire movie files dumped from (now blanked) tape that I've yet to process. The data seems fine, just something is causing the k/p. Reboot occasionally shows drive, occasionally doesn't in Disk Utility...
Also tried MacDrive on Bootcamp partition - but XP crashes pretty quickly with a freeze. Will check out WDs Windows/Dos utitlity now you've mentioned it, it is a WD drive after all. So not much better under XP.
Have done extensive RAM tests just to make sure it wasn't that, including reseating and PRAM and SMC reset, but things are fine without drive in bay (and I've another 3 drives in bays working fine including my main Boot drive).
I'd let Disk Warrior do it's work if I didn't think I'd get a kernel panic halfway through... which worries me.. I'd tried booting from Disk Warrior's bootdisk CD and got a kernel panic during boot.
I've now been using this mac for 5 hours now without drive in bay so it's not the mac itself.
Is there anyway of deleting possibly corrupt journal (spotlight does seems to constantly re-index on startup - but only when said drive is in bay) maybe with Terminal?
I'm wary of repartioning as I'll surely get a k/p during the process...

    hi, every one..!
    Any help??

  • Strange system behavior on MBP, no way to install OS, kernel panics keeps happening

    Hi ,
I have a MBP mid 2009, with 8G Ram and 500 GB hard disk, the problem started 2 month ago when I was copying my files into my external hard drive due to strange crashes and kernel panics, that was the last time when My MBP was alive, a kernel panic happened and  No safe mode, no PRAM resetting and no clean install nothing was working, I could not use disk verification or repair using original Snow leopard disk utility so i had to go to a repair center for formatting the hard disk.
By the time first crashes started I was using lion installed from app store. But i never could install it again, i had to change the hard disk which was not identified by any other computer as well,  so now I use a brand new hard disk, but even now the installation fails every time I try to clean install, the only way to make it work is to install the  snow leopard on my USB disk and then restore the image on internal drive which Has a single partition,  however the main problem is still there,
For further information i have to add that I am not using bootcamp for windows or any VM tools,I have used the memtest for testing RAM and all tests passed, the disk repair and permission repair also finished successfully. The performance is ok there is no delay  in performing tasks but randomly application start to quit unexpectedly and sometimes there is one kernel panic a day but some times there are 3 in 15 min!
Any suggestion that what might be wrong?

    Thanks for prompt response clinton,
I dont have acess to terminal now becuase i am using apple test for checking hardware again,
i have used AHT several times before with no alert or error but just now i got the following error when there was 2 4 Gb ram installed
    4mem/4/400000000 0 ac 112098
And when i checked the Rams one by one I got this error for both of them
    4mem/4/400000000 0xac 10b618
I have tested rams using memtest before and it passed all the tests,
the strange point is for all three tests which i have done so far using AHT they took less than 2 min but now i am checking first ram in upper slot and its almost 15 min and its less than 20% progress, could it be a sign that lower slot got problem?
I will post requested info asap.

  • Mac Mini 2005 / Kernel Panic

My mac mini kept getting the kernel panic every time it booted up. Took it into the apple store and they said most likely the HD was going out. Of course when it was in the store it had no kernel panic problems. I ended up replacing the HD in the mini and after loading system software, etc. I get the kernel panic again! Can it be the RAM went bad? Any suggestions?

Take a look at this article and follow the suggestions: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
