Kernel panic when waking PowerBook from sleep on a new network
I occasionally take my PowerBook from home to work, and lately there have been several instances of my PB having a kernel panic when I plug in the ethernet cable and wake it from sleep. I have not tested this extensively, but it seems to occur under the following conditions:
1. PB is disconnected from network location 1, and the lid is closed so that it goes to sleep.
2. PB is moved to network location 2, the ethernet cable at that location is plugged in, and then the computer lid is opened, causing the computer to awake from sleep.
3. The computer has a kernel panic immediately on awaking.
I believe, but am not absolutely positive, that this does not occur if I awake the computer first, and then plug in the ethernet cable. Unfortunately that order of doing things is counter-intuitive to me, as I tend to want to plug everything in before waking the computer up.
Possibly a factor: At my home location I have a manually assigned IP address and other location-specific settings, whereas at work I change the network settings to fully automatic once the computer starts up.
Hello DistantThunder
In most cases kernel panics are a result of a hardware error on some cases a software error.
I would suggest you look at an excellent procedure for resolving these issues on Dr Smoke's website.

My Macbook Pro Retina is having kernel panics when woken up from sleep mode
I want to say this started when I began hooking up my laptop to an old 23" monitor from 2005 (aluminum matte screen version). Here's the error message I get...

Thanks for the help in advance!Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to your problem:
VirtualBox
SX-Virtual Link
Little Snitch
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can identify which one is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes. -
Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.
An example of the latest kernel panic log as as follows:

Would anyone be able to help please???
Thank you very much !!
DaveHi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

Kernel panic when waking from sleep
My eMac (1Ghz, 256 Mb RAM, dual boot OS 9.2.2/OS X 10.2.8(upgraded from 10.2.4)) has a recurring but intermittent issue where it suffers from a kernel panic when waking from sleep.
In the past I managed to fix the issue by resetting PRAM and NVRAM, but this doesn't seem to work anymore.
Things I've found out until now:
- Apple Hardware Test and Techtool Deluxe can't find anything wrong (all tests are passed).
- No kernel panic log is written - apparently the kernel panic occurs before the log can be written.
- Crash appears to be network-related. My IP address and network card address are shown at the bottom of the panic window.
- After restarting, Finder windows revert to a state from two or three days ago...
- Login items aren't the problem. I removed them all - this doesn't make any difference.
- no weird things in the startup items folders, AFAIK.
I'm on the verge of reinstalling OS X, but I think I already did this a couple of years ago, and it didn't help.
Please help.
ThomasNominally, you'd download the OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 after reinstalling 10.2.4, then use Software Update to identify any additional security and other software updates. There was an issue with early builds of 10.2 failing the 10.2.8 udate if done directly, but working fine if one first updated to an intermediate version such as 10.2.6; I think that problem affected 10.2 through 10.2.3 and your 10.2.4 should be good to go directly to 10.2.8, but if there are any problems, you can go back to 10.2.4, then search the Apple Downloads link for 10.2.6, then 10.2.8
With 10.2.x, it's prudent to run Repair Permissions after each OS and security update before moving on to the next. -
Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
ThanksHello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password". Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.

High power comsumption and wrong setting when waking up from sleep
See here for some more information: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-RTM-Discussion/High-Power-Consumption-with-Windows-7/td-p/1668...
Settings: T400, integrated GPU,"maximum battery live" power sheme, brightness level 3, wlan on. Newest switchable graphics driver, power manager and power management drivers installed, SU4 didn't find newer drivers.
Power consumption is between 12-16W most of the time, whereas it was close to 10W on XP, from what i heard from a friend, i installed win7 on my machine right after i bought the thinkpad.
When waking up from sleep( i think hibernation as well) power consumption is abnormal, because both GPUs are activated. You have to switch to to the dedicated and back to the integrated via power manager to deactivate the ATI, which is very annoying.
Is lenovo working on these issues or are there any workaroungs already?I've got similar problems on a T400 with hybrid graphics running Windows 7 x64 Professional, upgraded from Vista x64 Professional. I've upgraded everything to the latest (driver, bios, etc etc) using System Update.
When I boot up from cold, and switch to using batteries, the power consumption is around 8w. Very good.
Then I suspend, and resume from suspend, and the power consumption shoots up to like 20w. Horrible.
Then I manually switch to "High performance" and then back to "Energy saving", the power consumption comes back down, but to >9w, which is like 13% above the original 8w level. Acceptable, but not good.
This seems to indicate there're at least two problems with the power management aspect of T400 + Win7 x64:
First, there is the well-known problem that both internal and external graphics cards get turned on upon resume. Lenovo, please fix this problem. It's completely unacceptable to have to manually perform that switching every time one closes, and then opens the lid, or loss 60% of the battery life. And I do need to use the external GPU from time to time, so disabling it at BIOS level is not acceptable either.
Second, there is the more subtle problem that some other hardware/driver besides the graphics card makes the T400 draw an extra >1w upon resume.
I really wonder if these problems occur with T400 preinstalled with Win7 x64. If they do, shouldn't every major laptop review sites take notice of the defect and warn people. If they don't, then I do not really see why it's so hard for Lenovo to provide earlier users with the right driver/registry patch/etc to enable the correct behavior. As far as I know, these problems have not been fixed since Win7 came out.
Finally let me add that other that this, I'm extremely satisfied with my T400/Win7 system. The thermal dissipation, noise level, and durability are just top-notch. But this just makes the above mentioned problems more of a thorn in the side! -

Installed Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 and whenever the computer sleeps, it completely hangs on wake. I've installed the system twice and the behavior is the same. Tried pulling each of the RAM sticks. No difference. Anybody else?

External display issues when waking display from sleep
After waking my external display from sleep (the entire Macbook was not asleep, just the external display), the garbled colored dots kept appearing at the top and bottom of the screen, only then for the entire display to go black, then about 5-10 seconds later the images comes back, but with the garbled colored dots at the bottom. It will keep doing this over and over again.
It's only happened once so far, but I seem to remember reading about some issues when waking from sleep with the new unibody Macbooks with regards to external displays. Is this a known issue with these Macbooks? There have been similar reports. However, not all external displays in combination with a MacBook will exhibit this problem. Thus, it seems either display specific or something that is caused by a cross between one display and a MacBook.
I assume that you are using one of Appe's mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters to connect to the external display. In that case have you installed the latest firmware update for the adapter? -
Screen issues when waking up from sleep
Very strange things going on with the screen on my new MBP, it has only occurred on a very few occasions now, after waking up from sleep. I noticed two strange effects happening, not at the same time so I don't know if they are related or not.
1) Sometimes the screen shows a varying brightness pattern at the bottom, I think caused by some of the LEDs from the backlighting having a different brightness then others.
2) Sometimes the entire screen has a blueish hue.
Both issues are fixed when I restart the computer.... anyone know what might be going on...?Also when it wakes up from sleep the screen flashes, don't think its supposed to do that.
Here is a picture I took with my phones that shows how the screen looks like, notice the difference in brightness in a pattern.

Can't use mouse/keyboard/trackpad when waking iMac from sleep mode
Basically as the title says. When I wake my iMac from sleep mode I am unable to use my keyboard/trackpad/mouse during the login window. Once the screen goes black by itself, after a minute or so I can then log in properly.
Yes the keyboard/mouse/trackpad are all connected when it wakes from sleep as I can use any of them to wake it from sleep, I just can't move them or type with them in the login window.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Kernel Panics when waking from sleep? 2012 MBA Base Model
I've been having some trouble with my 2012 MacBook Air. It was running perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when waking from sleep, I am getting Kernel Panics that force the restart of my Mac. I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on the issue.

Alternatively you can boot into Safe Mode which will not load those device drivers, and see if you panics cease. If they do, then you can uninstall the software. BTW, the current version of Virtual Box is VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-OSX. -
Occasional Kernel Panics when Waking From Sleep
I bought my black MacBook a couple weeks after release and have had no problems so far. However, twice I had a kernel panic directly after waking from sleep. It happens so infrequently that it's a real curiosity to me when it does happen, since I've put the machine to sleep and woke it at least twice each day since I've owned it.
Yes I do have third-party ram, but it tests out fine with memtestx and Apple's own hardware diagnostics. I'd point the finger at it as well if it happened more than 2 out of probably 100 sleep/wake cycles.
Here's the panic.log:

Darwin Kernel Version 8.7.1: Wed Jun 7 16:19:56 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.9.72.obj~2/RELEASE_I386Since kernel panics may be caused by hardware, OS, and software you'll need to take a very systematic approach. But if your computer is panicking only when waking I'd look at hardware hardest. Do you have any peripherals connected? If so disconnect them. Also, be sure that once you've put the computer to sleep that you don't disconnect any firewire or USB devices. The Mac seems to really hate that. If you are connected to a USB hub the hub could be the issue. And unfortunately a Mac isn't the best test bed for memory checking so even if your memory is coming up okay from memtest it could still be marginal.

Mid-2012 macbook pro gets kernel panics when waking from sleep
Hi all,
I got a new mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) at the end of Oct which started kernel panicking pretty much from day one. The kernel panics only occur when the computer is put to sleep and reawaken after more than an hour or so has passed. I get a grey screen that eventually shows text like "Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Please wait a few seconds or press any key to continue" and then the OS boots up again. Bizarrely, this doesn't usually happen if the computer has only been asleep for a short time - i.e. 15 min or less.
Below is the kernel panic log, which seems to suggest there's an issue with the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Advice is much appreciated.

Kernel Panics when waking from Sleep
I'm getting many panics sometimes a couple of times of day with a MBP 2.0Ghz. No funny USB devices plugged in.
So there is an extra 1GB ram, but a 5 pass Memtest shows the memory as fine. Hardware Diagnostics shows no problems.
Is this a hardware fault with the Core Duo. I'm thinking that because of the 'cpu 1 caller 0x0019CAEF' in the first lines of the panic logs. And the error is always the same one.

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 8.6.1: Tue Mar 7 16:55:45 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.9.22.obj~1/RELEASE_I386A lot of things can cause a kernel panic, but let's first try resetting the SMC. Here's how:
Turn off the computer (if you just had another kernel panic, this is especially convenient! :D) and remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for at least five seconds.
Put battery back in and turn the computer on.
See if this solves your issue. If not, you might want to try an archive and install, or you could just call AppleCare for assistance (who will in turn probably ask you to do an archive and install). To do an archive and install, just put in the OS X install disc, go through the steps, but when you click "options," choose archive and install.
If you still get the kernel panics after the reinstall of os x, you've got a hardware problem on your hands. -
I get a lot of gray screens of death on my MacBook Pro ever since I went to OS 10.8. Never had issues with the 10.6 versions and now miss those days. The kernal panics seem to occur most frequently just waking it up from sleep, regardless of where i am or what is attached to it. I can't help but wonder if it is a problem with the video drivers under 10.8.x.
I get these daily, so here is the log that gets sent to Apple, but I'm not really sure anyone looks at them. Perhaps they would if other people experienced the problem too, but perhaps I'm in the vast minority.

If so, or even if they don't, you should take your MBP into an Apple Store or Apple Certified Service center along with a printout of that article. They will test it to see if it is that problem and replace the logic board for free up to three years from date of purchase. That time is likely close or already passed.
