Kernel panic.. with new logic board

Hi,
So I recently replaced my logic board after trying EVERYTHING to fix a somewhat frequently occuring kernel panic. Now however.. it has happened again.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I honestly feel like I've tried everything. Could it be bad RAM? I've changed the hard drive, done a fresh OS X install (perhaps its something in my settings from migrating my old stuff back over?), new logic board.. reset PRAM, every suggestion I could find.
Here is the old discussion before I changed the logic board. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3902490
Attached the latest crash log.

Any help at all or new fixes I could try would be greatly appreciated! Very frustrating!

Cheers - I've run Rember a few times and it hasn't come up with any errors, but I've heard it's not a 100% accurate test. Looks like that's the only thing left it could be!

  • Kernel Panic Log, New logic board, new ram....same problem.

I have had continuous problems with my computer. First Apple said it was the Ram...replaced...same thing still happening. So they said oh, must be the logic board...replaced...still happening. Glad I have apple care or i might be more angry. ha.
Basically not sure what is going on.. i have tried to figure out if its a software issue. But it happens at different times. It did seem related to internet use. But turned all that off and worked in photoshop and it happened anyway.
Love the gray screen with all the languages telling me my computer is whack and wants to restart, they must know how i like to brush up on my foreign languages...but i feel that i have learned all i can at this point.
I am copy and pasting my panic log, so anyone who might understand what it is saying. Please shed some light on what i can try to do now.
I use airport to connect to internet. FYI.
Here it is (its long, happens frequently after all)

Cheers - I've run Rember a few times and it hasn't come up with any errors, but I've heard it's not a 100% accurate test. Looks like that's the only thing left it could be!

  • Help! I have had my iMac G5 fitted with new Logic Board but it doesn't work

Help! I have had my iMac G5 fitted with new Logic Board but it doesn't work
I have just had my iMac G5 First Gen 1.8Ghz fitted with a new Logic Board under the Apple Repair Extension Programme for iMacs.
I got the iMac home from the repairers and switched it on and everything was working fine for about 2 hours and then all of a sudden the Error Page came up on the Screen (with a big On/Off Switch Logo) and it said I had to shut down.
So I shut it down waited a few minutes and then tried to re-boot it but nothing happened. All that happended was the Power Light in the Right hand corner came on..but nothing else....
Help! Any ideas what to do please?

If you have an external firewire drive (it has to be firewire, USB won't boot on a Rev A), plug it in to the firewire port and turn it on, then boot your iMac and see if it shows on the screen.
Have you tried to hit the eject (up arrow, the last button on the top row of the keyboard) button when you boot, perhaps the repairers left a disc in the drive? Then try and put your install disc in.
    Miriam

  • Can applecare be extended with new logic board

My Imac is with apple having a new logic board fitted for the second time and before that they replaced the computer. Since my cover runs out in August 09 has apple been known to extend the cover when replacing the logic boards, if so how do you go about it.

If your iMac is still less than a year old, you can purchase the extended AppleCare out-of-pocket. If you already have an extended warranty, then you can no longer extend it any further.
Technically, replacement parts (such as a logic board) can have longer warranties than the rest of the computer. This is because replacement parts are covered by either a 90-day warranty, or the remainder of the limited/extended warranty, whichever is longer. This means that if you had a logic board installed on the last day of your warranty, the logic board would still be under warranty for another three months even after the computer's warranty had expired.

  • Many kernel panics, possible dead logic board?

I hope someone can help my diagnose my recently quirky iMac G4 1 ghz 17 in flat panel. I currently have a 250 G Seagate hard drive, 1 G memory. It's running Tiger 10.4.11...or attempting to run it.
This computer ran beautifully until several weeks ago when I foolishly attempted to upgrade to Leopard. Only about a third of Leopard got installed when the system froze and crashed. I managed to access the hard drive and did a complete wipe and install of good old Tiger, upgraded to 10.4.10 which ran without a glitch in the past.
However, even after this clean reinstall I continued to get freezes and kernel panics. I repaired all permissions carefully after each upgrade and I ran Disk Utility with no problems detected and no repairs needing to be done. I tried to run Disk Warrior to double check but continued to have system freezes and kernel panics while running Disk Warrior!! The panics were/are intermittent. The computer behaves fine until I've used it for a few hours, then crashes, usually while I am in Safari or iTunes, but occasionally I will get a panic at start up.
I have replaced the hard drive with a brand new one as it was still under warranty. I tested the memory and determined by process of elimination that the stick of RAM on the logic board was not functioning. I replaced that.
So, I have a new hard drive and functional memory and tried a Tiger fresh reinstall yet again today. The system continues to crash episodically...used the computer for a few hours this am before I got a kernel panic. This afternoon it resuscitated itself enough to let me put upgrade 10.4.5 on it and crashed in the middle of the upgrade! Bear in mind the machine's run all these upgrades and functioned fine in the past.
I think I obviously have a hardware problem and since I've recently replaced the hard drive and both memory modules as well as done a fresh reinstall of the OS version this iMac used to run perfectly, I'm thinking I have a logic board issue.
Any opinions or suggestions on how I might get these issues worked out would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for responding. Yes, I've already followed all those suggestions to the letter. Unfortunately I do not have the original Apple Hardware Test disc that came with this computer. I have oredered a copy of Tech Tool Pro and plan to run it but it has yet to arrive.
I let the computer rest overnight and it booted right up and so far no freezes or panics, I've been using it about a half-hour.
Of note, in the kernel panic log folder it says,

  • Old PBG4 17 with new logic board doesn't show "built-in" AirPort

I just replaced the logic board in my summer 2003 PowerBook G4 17" which should have standard built-in AirPort. But when I go to Network, AirPort doesn't exist.
Does anyone know what the problem/cause may be? Did I miss re-connecting something? Or is the AirPort built into the logic board and the new one just didn't have one???
Please tell me before I take it a part again...
    Thanks in Advance!
    Dan

I've tried to reset all of them and now only the Extreme shows up in the Airport utility.
But I can find the Expresses as Wireless Clients. Somehow the Extreme doesn't recognise them as Airports.
With my PC I can access them all through Airport utility and they are well whithin range and respond to changes I make to the settings.
It must be the settings of the Extreme that's I've messed up.
I'll try another reset and start from scratch, again...

reinstall the original video card to install leopard
That should work fine. In my case, that wasn't an easy option because the Mac arrived from Apple with the upgraded card in place and my client would have had to buy a video card just to install the OS.
It's been years since I had a version of MacOS that required inits for specific machines. It caught me by surprise, but was totally understandable. The machine was made after Leopard was released and it did come with a proper DVD with the required video drivers, but my client had misplaced it. His Family Pack Retail DVD was the version of MacOS that was on the shelf at Amazon at the time and normally this isn't a problem for anyone because they are always out-of-date and require the user to bring up the OS to the latest version.
I suppose Apple replaced the DVD with an newer version because of the special order status of the machine.

  • Kernel Panics with new security update

Anyone else having this problem? Downloaded the new security update, installed, restarted (took a very long time to restart) the computer rebooted itself and then began to kernel panic every time I booted it. Works fine if I boot into windows so seems to be something the new software update broke. Anyone else having similar issues?

Well I am having a weird problem. This is my first post so I am not sure if I need to make a new post, but here goes.
I installed the Security Update 2007-005 (PowerPC) on May 31 on my MacBook Pro. I can't be certain but I think since I installed it I have a spinning ball and can't do much of anything. Like something is bogging it down. It will eventually stop but will start again the minute I do anything... something is just not right. I have tried all troubleshooting techniques but found it is not possible to even try them.
Safe Boot... It automatically decides to shut down before it gets to the safe boot screen.
Disk Utility... Restarting off the disk, yes, but when I run the program I get "could not unmount disk"
Trying to run fsck -y, in single user mode (command s)... I get "Volume is journaled. No checking performed. Use the -f option to force checking.
I have no idea what to do next. I guess I will try to reinstall my system off my disks. Does anyone have any ideas... please help this is taking up so much time.

  • C2D Display issues fixed with new Logic board. READ before this is deleted!

While searching on Google for answers regarding logic board problems, I found an interesting MacFixIt article. Unfortunately I'm not sure how many of you read it because I could only access it now through Googles cache.
    From the article:
We continue to report on an issue where their MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (Late 2006) displays flicker or suffer from appearance of horizontal distortion lines. This issue is reminiscent of a problem that plagued some iBook G4s, generally resolved by logic board replacement.
It now appears that Apple is replacing specific parts to remedy this issue, though a parts shortage problem may be causing delays. It also appears that this issue is not directly related to any defect in the display, as that is not the part being replaced in most cases. Instead, the logic board seems to be implicated.
I hope this may be of some assistance to those of you suffering screen problems.
As to this post being removed, well two of my threads regarding my logic board problems (core duo) were removed. Another thread regarding a possible delay in MBP C2D because of screen issues was removed yesterday. So read and reply quickly.

  • Kernel panic with Logic X

I'm having constant kernel panics when using Logic X. Anyone else having this?

    YeS!!!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22524265#22524265
Despite all of the generous help, I'm still getting kernel panics.
Load an empty project, create a Drummer tracks. Computer crash!!!
An empty template causes kernel panics when switching between a few screen sets.
New project with one track causes kernel panic when I attempt to view a web page of a Logic X tutorial.  Poof!!!
So, you have a newer, more powerful MBP than I do.  Unbelievable!
Funny thing, with a minor modification of the info.plist, I'm running a stable version of Lx on my Mac Pro 1,1 with OSX 10.7.5 which is not a supported system for Lx.
My hope is that OSX Mavericks will help as it's supposed to run much more efficiently.

Sounds just like what was happening with my Alum MB. I took it in and they replaced my battery. It seems to be ok now. I don't know what it is, but my battery was fine before 10.5.6 and the same timeframe of the firmware updates when they came out.
My battery health was jumping around but was fine before all of this happened. Unfortunately at 381 cycles I don't think you have much chance of getting the battery for free. Perhaps you can complain about the battery saying it was fine until 10.5.6 or whatever. Not sure when your computer was made, but perhaps you are eligible for this program: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/

  • New logic board, still boot problems with Turbo Fans

I bought a 2Ghz dual G5 from a guy on craigslist and he told me that the Geniuses at the Apple Store said it had a bad logic board. So I bought a brand new logic board from DVwarehouse.com, and installed it along with a new set of matched RAM from Crucial, a new HD, new PRAM battery, new video card and a new superdrive. The only thing original are the processors and power supply (and fans, of course).
When I start it up, after the chime it quickly goes into "turbo-fan mode", which I have read that means the Op Sys didn't load correctly. Many restarts later, I was able to reset the nvram in the Open Firmware, but that didn't seem to help at all. I also pressed the SMU button (according to Apple's directions), but that didn't help much either.
I've had a few successful boots, but always with the fans going full blast. I though that once I got Leopard loaded onto the HD, then it would calm down with a software update. But before I ever get that far, the G5 hangs. Sometimes the G5 will boot and access the HD but hangs soon after. Sometimes I can get it to boot off the Leopard DVD. But most of the time it just boots and sits there slowly spinning up the fans into turbo mode.
The few times it has booted to access the HD or DVD, the fans go turbo right away. Other times it will boot with a chime, but then it won't access the HD or DVD and I get noting on the display.
I should say that this behavior is almost identical to how it was acting before I replaced the logic board. But how can that be? It should be a new computer, unless the problem is in the CPUs. Is that very likely? How would I find out if the CPUs are bad?
I've been reading alot about the problems I'm having with this G5 and what I've been having seems to be very common. But I've run out of fixes. Is there anything I can do to fix this machine or is it just money down the drain?

my iMac 20" G5 experience since December 2004, even though I love this machine,it has gone through 3 power supply (661-3350) replacements and 3 logic board replacement since late 2004. Pretty crazy for a single machine but I still love it. The last logic board replacement did NOT fix my boot up problem, as I expected, and the genius finally agreed to replace the power supply and that fixed it. SO: My recommendation to you is "replaced the power supply" here is one place you can get one: http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Power-supply-180W-for-iMac-G5-20--100v-661-3350---614 -0353-----NEW-p-25613.html
