Kernel Panics Appear to Be Gone!
Hey, so after trying everything recommended here, I called Apple and they sent me two new memory modules for my new iMac 24". I replaced the 2GB of RAM that came originally on the iMac with the ones that Apple sent, reformatted the hard drive, re-installed the system, did all the updates, etc. and voila! Less hum, no kernel panics in the last three days, no problems with the iMac emerging from sleep or doing random crashes. Judging by what MenuMeters says, my Mac is even using Memory more efficiently! : ) So... back to enjoying life with Maggie (iMac 24").
Congrats first off. I find it interesting that every time I had a problem it must be my 3rd rate, 3rd party Ram according to whatever tech I got on the line not Apple's superior Ram.

My macbook from 2008 which I bought used worked fine for 3 weeks and then suddenly it started restarting and now it restarts, goes to grey apple screen and a code saying something about a kernel panic appears and it restarts again and again. Help?
Restart the computer and immediately hold the Option key down.
Select the Recovery partition and continue.
On the next pane, select Disk Utility and continue.
When DU opens, select your hard drive in the left column, click the First Aid tab, the click Repair Disk.
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way. -
Time machine cause kernel panic
I've updated to 10.6.4 yesterday, today when time machine running the kernel panic appear. what should i do... i'm very new to mac, i'm just upgraded from pc 3 days ago.
Hi, and welcome to the forums, and Macs.
Sorry for the unusual introduction to a kernel panic.
Turn Time Machine OFF via +System Preferences > Time Machine.+
Assuming Time Machine had been working before the update, something may have gone wrong with it. Try downloading and installing the 10.6.4 "combo" update. That's the cleverly-named combination of all the updates to Snow Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards. -
Kernel Panic -- can't get around it
A KERNEL PANIC appeared out of nowhere requiring a reboot. I obliged (several times) and each time the computer reboots, the Kernal Panic message appears immediately again. No time to even move the mouse.
To remedy, I've done the following:
1) Unplugged all peripherals and disconnected power. Reconnected power and restarted... no help.
2) Cleared the PRAM (CommandOption+PR)... no help
3) Booted in safe mode (shift)... Kernel Panic appeared in safe mode!
4) Performed hardware test (d)... did not take me to the hardware test dialogue.
I am unable to open the optical drive so I cannot boot from a disc. As mentioned above, I cannot access anything once the CPU boots because the kernel panic appears less than 1 second after boot.
An hour of searching the forums has resulted in no solutions thus far. I will continue to search, but any help offered here would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated!Addendum...
I just booted in single-user mode and ran the fsck utility which verified my boot drive was okay.
Interestingly, the next step in all the documentation I've found thus far is to insert the OSX disc into the disc drive, yet I am unable to open the disc drive because my cpu locks up before it even starts up. I finally tracked down instructions for opening the drive while the system boots. Elementary, I'm sure, but I didn't know it was as simple as holding the eject key after the startup chimes.

Kernel panic on MacPro medio 2010
Does anyone know have to read this crash rapport?
I have had a lot of them on my MacPro medio 2010.
The kernel panic appears in different situations but especiallly, when I am rendering 3D drawings in Vectorworks 2011
I suspect the RAM but I am not sure.
I checked at Apple Store what kind of RAM that fit and I could see that Apple recommended 1333MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM but when I checked what kind of RAM that was installed at my MacPro it was 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC.
Is this the cause?

Mac Pro 65lb tower uses Error Correcting Code (ECC) Memory. Eight additional check bits are stored with each 64-bit word in RAM memory, and when read back, single-bit errors are corrected on the fly and your Mac Pro keeps running. The errors are reflected in About this Mac > ( More Info) > Memory as modules whose status is other than "OK".
Double-bit errors that cannot be corrected cause an immediate halt with a Machine Check to avoid poisoning your data.
When you get all eight modules installed, it is common for your Mac Pro to back off maximum memory speed from 1333 to 1066. That is not a defect. -
Black Screen with Subsequents Kernel Panics at Gray Loading Screen
I remember seeing a few threads about the Mac Pro and the legacy 8800gt. Most of the problems seemed to pop around 10.5.7. However, I just recently ran into a problem running 10.5.6. And I'm almost certain it's the graphics card, since it can't get out of the gray Apple OS loading screening before it panics.
Once I dig out the stock graphics card from the closet. I can at least verify that system still works. Please feel free to comment if you have any insight.
System: 2006 Mac Pro: 2.66ghz dual core, 4gb ram, Nvidia 8800gt 512mb
Situation: This morning in Stormwind while at bank. I was running full screen mode at the time. Firefox was on in the background.
Problem: Screen went black but monitor said signal was still being sent. I waited 30 seconds to see if it corrected it self and tried to window mode as well. Upon hard shut-down and restart, the kernel panic appears during the gray apple screen with the wheel loading. All subsequent kernel panics followed this behavior.
What I tried:
I first tried resetting the PRAM. Received kernel panic.
Tried booting in safe mode. Received kernel panic.
Tried loading from install disk. Kernel panic.
After backing up in Target Disk Mode, I retrieved 1 log from Mac Pro. See below for contents.

It makes me wonder since World of Warcraft was the only graphic intensive program I ran why this would fail. I mainly focus on audio production and haven't had any problems in Digital Performer. -
Tiger freezed while usage, I shut it down and tried to reboot Tiger (10.4.3), but now kernel panic appears every time I start my mac with "... ... hanging here" message log.
I already tried to repair permissions with disk utility in tier installation dvd. According to it there were nothing to repair. Also tried safe boot with no luck.
I don´t have an external hard drive or other mac to help with this problem.
Should I just reinstall tiger? There are some not backupped files in the hard drive, so clean install is not an option. Should I go with the simple install or archive and install?
I´m open to any other suggestions too. I just want my tiger to roar again. I would truly appreciate your help.Hi Aleksi_M,
Kernal Panics are very serious usually (But no always) related to a hardware problem. Common cases are logic board problems and RAM problems. I would not recommend re installing Tiger but I would strongly recommend that you take your PowerBook into your Local Apple Store or Phone Apple if that works better for you. Better to be safe than sorry with these things and Apple may be able to save your data.
I also have experienced consistently reoccurring kernal panic problem where I could not get the computer to boot. This was down to the logic board. I took it into an Apple Store and it was repaired in 1 week. (Had the part been in-store they could have done it on the spot)
Hope this helps

Help needed to interpret kernel panic
Hello everybody
Recently I've had a couple of kernel panics on my MacBookPro 13'' (OSX Lion 10.7.2 version, 2,26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
The last one occured today : I was opening Google Earth (the last version) to see the GPS position of a boat( from a link with the GPS coordinates taken from a website). Itunes and Safari were running, and also a PDF document.
The Kernel panic appears few seconds after opening Google Earth.
I also replaced memory and hard drive few weeks ago, and I just hope I didn't do something wrong.

Samsung Sata Dvdwr and Kernel Panic
I bought a new sata dvdwr(samsung sata dvdwr sh-s223c) but when I plug the new dvdwr, at boot kernel panic appears. well I try to plug the device from ICH8 chip of the motherboard and my system works on fakeraid0 on the same chip. On the other hand if I plug the device from jmicron onboard controller, there is no problem.
BTW there is no problem with my ubuntu install.

Posting a single word or useless message (bumping) to attract attention to your thread is not allowed. Do your own research, continue to troubleshoot, post the results, and be patient with the community. If people are reading your thread without answering or offering help, you may try supplying more details, or ask to be pointed in the right direction. Often, the reason for posts remaining unanswered is due in large part to the sparse details in the original post itself, or, the obvious availability of solutions in the wiki, on the forum (by using the search function) or on the web, and the community's unwillingness to point out the obvious.

Anyhow, at what point during boot does this happen? Did you check the logs for a kernel panic stack trace message?

Kernel Panic after installing Mac OSX Lion
I have a late 2009, 15" Macbook Pro that I've upgraded to mountain lion about three weeks ago and when I upgraded the first time I kept getting kernel panics like no tommorrow. I used my flash drive which had lion uploaded to it to "downgrade" to lion in case this happens. I also had mountain lion on the flash drive to so I did a clean install of mountain lion through my flash drive. After that, kernel panics still seem to appear. I got frustrated and called apple support, and lets say that after many hours of testing, installing, and configuring that they just told me to simply go to an apple store, which was a two hour drive from Pine Plains, NY to Danbury, CT only to have them reenstall mountain lion (again) through a network. When I finally got it back and tested it for an hour I thought things would be fine... But lo and behold, another kernel panic appeared. I've taken the liberty to track the programs that I've installed and used during the testing as well as the kernel panic that was reoccuring.
Macbook Pro "Panic" Run test
Software installed:
Adobe Shockwave Player
Adobe Flash Player
Adobe Reader
Software Used:
Safari - Surfed the web to test system stability.
watched a youtube video to test system stability.
Terminal - Changed, created and deleted test directories to test system stabilityiTunes - Downloaded a song and played it to test system stability. Cinch - Installed and ran cinch to test system stability. iPhoto - Installed and ran iPhoto to test system stability.Notes:
10 min - system appears to be stable, changed the energy saver setting from "Better Battery Life" to "Performance".
24min - installed software (see software installed) and used Safari, Terminal, and iTunes. System still appears to be stable.

I'll try to figure out how to read this as soon as possible, but until then I need your help to solve this problem. That panic was not caused by third-party software.
If the panic is recurrent, the possibilities are (1) a damaged OS X installation; (2) a hardware fault, which could be internal or in a wired peripheral device; and (3) an obscure bug in OS X.
You can rule out the first possibility by reinstalling the OS. Probably there will be no change. In that case, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or unless it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at leasttwo independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Mountain Lion - endless kernel panics - can anyone diagnose?
Been having issues with Kernel Panics since Mountain Lion came out. I downloaded and installed a few months ago and got Kernel panics, so I formatted and sent to apple and they replaced the RAM, which did absolutely nothing. So I went backwards to Snow Leopard, and then recently came back now that we're on 10.8.2 to use Mountain Lion and I am still getting kernel panics. Can anyone diagnose where I could begin as far as removing software, etc, from this kernel panic? I'm pretty comp savvy but the kernel panic appears an endless stream of nonsense to me:
PS: You will notice in this kernel panic I have some FireWire audio interface connected. Just to be clear, this kernel panic can come with or without any periphreals plugged in

Persistent kernel panics on iMac G4
Hi folks. Over the last few days I've had persisent kernel panics. I've gone through full troubleshooting including Hardware Tests, Tech Tool Pro tests, running fsck -fy, zeroing all data and reinstalling. At last, I've managed to obtain a full panic log, which reads as follows:

Can anyone advise? I'm assuming it's possibly a bad block on my hard disk, but I'd be grateful for advice from anyone who is skilled in reading panic logs.If I had to guess, I would say the persistence, despite your actions, suggests knackered hardware - logic board maybe.
Sounds like it needs checked by Apple. I was pleasantly surprised by the £30 cost of just a diagnosis my local centre charged (although repair was going to be £350 so scrapped the machine

After I updated to Mountain Lion, kernel panic appears time to time. I tried some method which I found on the forum, but none of them works so far. I got this report when I restarted my computer. Really want to know I can I fix it. The kernel panic usually happens while I open a video file with quicktime and use photoshop. Any one can help?

OSX Lion 10.7.3 kernel panic & Recovery HD
Hello,
Recently I have updated to 10.7.3. My system became unstable and kernel panic appears often. I wanted owngrade to 10.7.2 but no chance to. So I bought an external HD and used as time machine for backup. After that I started as Recovery HD and reinstalled OSX (Still 10.7.3), At least today I did not get any kernel panic but Time machine is saving new 14Gb that I did not downloaded. Somehow, I guess it is what Recovery HD did.
I wont those extra 14Gb since I don't know where they are and what are they for.
I beg information about what happened
Thanks in advance.
Javi.I hope this help you then:
I get more kernel panics when USB are connected at turn on the computer. Actually, I live without EyeTV and kernel panic comes every 4-10hours instead 1-3h when eyeTV plugged. No idea what the logs are saying because nothing is understable for me.
Bluetooth, Wifi, ethernet are enabled, few thirdyparty apps too.
I believe USB is doing something to this issue.
Besides that, after using recovery HD and download those unknow 14Gb I left the machine in idle for every night with EyeTV and time machine drive plugged on and no kernel panic yet -
Kernel Panic when plugging Firewire devices
I have a Kernal Panic each time I plug something in the Firewire ports. I already have tried many things to solve this issue, in vain (see here, in french : http://www.xrings.net/xrings/forum/viewtopic.php?t=216 )
If somebody has any suggestion... Thanks !Thank you jeffdc, but I have done it.
In fact, I've done all the things I could think about : they are listed in the link referring to an other forum (in french) in the first topic of this discussion :
http://www.xrings.net/xrings/forum/viewtopic.php?t=216.
I translate it here in english :
MY MAC. Power PC G4 800 MHz 256 Mo. System : OS X 10.4.2.
ISSUE. Kernel Panic each time I try to connect any kind of device (HD, iPod) to any of my Firewire ports.
CABLES AND DEVICES. I changed external Firewire cables and devices to be sure that the problem was not coming from them. The kernel panic appears systematicaly after connecting to the Firewire ports, when the computer is switched on as switched off with a reset...
FIREWIRE PORTS. I followed the instructions from the Apple Support Site : disconnect evreything (USB and all ports), switch off and disconnect the computer from the electricity alimentation cable, wait a few minutes, reconnect, switch on. Nothing changed.
HARDWARE TEST. I reboot on the Apple Hardware Test CD. Results were OK. I've done it twice : first time with iPod connected on the firewire, second time with nothing connected on the firewire port. First time the result was OK : firewire was indicated as "present". Second time it was OK too : it was indicated as "absent". So the computer is able to detect the Firewire device... (PS. I don't have any trouble with the iPod, nor with the software nor with the hardware, when the connection is with USB, so the iPod and its software are OK.)
AUTORISATIONS. I have of course repaired the autorisations with Disk Utility. Nothing changed.
NVRAM. I have done a reboot in Open Firmware (pommealt+of) to reset the Non Volatil RAM (reset-nvram, reset-all). For no result.
CORRUPTED, HIDDEN FILES. I've tried to do a big cleaning with Applejack utility (corrupted files etc.) in Open Firmware again. Again in vain.
NEW SYSTEM ON A PARTITION. My HD is divided en three partitions, so I've done a reboot on the Installation CD from my old 10.2 System on a partition containing only documents. I made a reset on that System, done a few upgradings (System, iTunes and iPod), and now that partition is 10.2.8.
NEW FIREWIRE TEST ON THE REINSTALLED SYSTEM. Under that freshly reinstalled System 10.2.8, I tried again to connect the iPod on the FireWire port : Kernel Panic again.
QUESTION. So, what does happen ? Is it a software or a hardware issue ? Or an original bug in the 10.2 system ? What can I do ?
Thank you again to all the people who have already read my post and took time to give me an answer, and to all the people who will do it.

DF: New feature request NNTP access
Hi, It would be real good if some (if not all) of the discussion forums were available through a news reader via the NNTP protocol. Reading forums with e.g. Mozilla News would be fast and nice experience. NNTP protocol allows for user authentication,

Can I import CS5 Illustrator files that were created in CS5 for Windows to CC on MacBook Pro?
I have some logo designs that were done in Illustrator CS5 on a PC. Can those files be imported into CC Illustrator on MacBook Pro or will I need to recreate or perhaps import into CS6 first?
