Kernel Panics getting more frequent

Hi,
I have a Late 2008 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 15 inch MBP.
It has recently started shutting down with the Grey Screen of Death. It has happened on more than one wireless network too.
I haven't installed anything new recently and can't understand why it is doing it now.
I have 2 x External Discs connected and it is constantly charging.
I repaired Disk Permissions only 1 day ago.
Here is my report:

• Kernel shutdown becoming more frequent (MBP, Yosemite)

Hi, I am currently running a Mid-2012 MBP with version 10.10.2 (14C109) of Yosemite.
Since mid-2014 the laptop has been 'shutting down due to a problem', it was a regular occurrence at first but became less frequent.
I searched through the discussions and several blogs finding different methods to try combat this issue.
I have tried
-Reseting NVRAM/PRAM
-Uninstalling suspected apps
-Cleaning caches
-Verifying disks etc.
I thought the basis of the fault was mdworker (spotlight) from the CPU readings in the Activity Monitor but then Google Chrome helper and other apps started using up higher CPU (I believe google chrome helper is a different problem anyway)
Eventually I gave up trying to fix it because I had planned on replacing the HDD with a new Crucial M550 SSD. I swapped these out at Christmas and placed the HDD in place of the optical drive. Everything booted fine and the mac was back to normal and a lot faster. Three weeks in a kernel panic occurred again and I have been trying to get to the root of it since. Then early last week the whole system crashed and I had to start fresh. I reinstalled the OS with a version on the SSD and the HDD as backup. I re-installed the apps I need (After Effects & Premiere Pro) and got back to work. This morning it has crashed consistently everytime I start using Premiere Pro, even with no other apps open. I dont know if I need Trim with the SSD, if its spotlight thats causing it, maybe an unnecessary app.I really need help with this because I have to meet deadlines. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I have logged all reports to apple but here is the latest one from today.

• Casio Brigade rebooting in the middle of calls and getting more frequent.

My Casio Brigade reboots in the middle of calls. It was usually preceded by a humming noise but it is happening more frequently and no longer hums just reboots. The battery is fine and has a normal life. The phone has never been dropped or wet (the Brigade is supposed to withstand both anyway). No, I do not have access to another phone so Verizon can tell me to reset it. I already reset and it didn't help. I programmed it again yesterday so it is up-to-date. Only reboots during calls (for now). Occasional dropped calls are expected but rebooting is not acceptable!
Can anyone help?

It is an awesome phone....if it worked right. I love the keyboard and the ruggedness of this phone. If only it wouldn't reboot in the middle of calls and/or Verizon had a solution that worked. It had this problem since day one and they had me reset it several times. It was OK for awhile. Then it started again but infrequently so I just lived with it. But now, it was every other call. I tried resetting it again several times and it is now out of warranty, of course. The last tech guy told me to uninstall all of the programs like navigator and backup assistant and THEN reset it. But it wouldn't let me remove backup assistant.
Anyway, I am back on my old phone that I only stopped using because of the poor sound quality. But, I guess I'll have to live with it until my contact for the other phone is up. ... NEXT JUNE. I believe this to be a software issue.. The phone itself is probably great. Good luck.
Oh, I also learned that it is more prudent to buy an unlocked dual-mode phone that accommodates both GSM and CDMA so that your phone will be usable if you decide to switch to another carrier. Verizon is about the only one using CDMA now. If you want a Verizon phone, get one that is "global ready". They have both modes. Hope it helps...

• Kernel Panics with more then one iPhone or iPod plugged into your mac?

I recently bought a new iPhone, and noticed problems when trying to charge the batteries on each, when plugged into the same machine. I would get mount errors, and the mac (both on my desktop and laptop) would crash, needing restart.
In my case, the fix was simple - both devices plugged into the same USB hub will interfere with each other (duh!) and cause problems.
Sooo, make sure you've got them plugged into DIFFERENT USB slots on your mac, and all should be fine.

This seems to be a fairly common issue and not just related to charging, although particularly with 'Windows' PCs where users who seldom appear to know with certainty if their USB ports are USB1.x or USB2.0 - the difference being significant (it appears), particularly for the iPhone.
You're right about using different hubs and port-sets to spread the overall USB load anyway, but even one iPhone on an early USB1.0 (even if not shared with other ports) cannot be expected to display the same characteristics is on USB2.0, either in terms of loading or in terms of throughput.
See how many XP users complain about timing-out when trying to do updates as one example of 'likely' problems of users not checking the details of the (USB) technology before starting out....

• Firefox crashes getting more frequent - maybe associated with Symantec PGP?

In January Firefox crashed 6 times. On 1/22 I did a full reinstall of Firefox. Did not crash again until 2/25 but then crashed 3 times in 4 days. In March has crashed 5 times in first 12 days. Don't know if crash report is simply blocked from occurring while my computer is locked, but most of the crash reports seem to be at whatever time I arrive in the morning and do the first unlock of the day. But not every day! This computer has full drive encryption with Symantec PGP. Maybe when locked, Firefox has problems? But why not every time it is locked? In the evenings I do the Windows locking but do not log off. The open pages vary.
Latest crash report is bp-7dee8df1-e410-4fb7-95ed-3bf252140312
I have disabled all of my add-ins.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Tiger install kernel panics: get rid of all SCSI!

I have a G3 Bluetooth Mac, and could not install from the OS X DVD. I went nuts trying things, including buying new memory (which is now supplementing my original memory) and doing restarts and re-restarts.
Finally, based on a hint, I unplugged an external SCSI Zip drive I was using. I got a little further, but not completely.
This Mac had an Adaptec SCSI card, and it was running an internal Jaz drive as well as one of the computer's three hard drives. I removed the card (the hard drive was not where I was going to install anyway) and the installation made it all the way through.
I have not yet reconnected the SCSI card, but I have downloaded the latest driver to see if the beastie will work okay under 10.4.6 again. Anyway, take all the SCSI out of your Mac (if you can) if you're having install problems.
This should be included in the help page for Tiger installs.

Do you have the Default Tab extension?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

Try to disable Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 and above by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash "mms.cfg" file located in one of these locations: [46]
(Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
(Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
For example, on a Windows 7 64-bit system, open the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, copy the file "mms.cfg" to the desktop, open it in Notepad, add a new line ProtectedMode=0 and then close Notepad, saving your changes. Next, go back to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, rename the original file to "mms.cfgBAK" (to save it as a backup) and then drag and drop in the modified "mms.cfg" file from the desktop. [47] [48] [49]
Note: To re-enable Flash Protected Mode, either restore a backup of the original mms.cfg file, if you saved one, or else re-edit the mms.cfg file to remove the ProtectedMode=0 line you added. Updating Flash Player or installing a newer version does not automatically re-enable Protected Mode

• I get a memory stacking kernel panic when I startup Mac osx

Can only boot into safe mode... When booted normally a black and white screen comes up with the aPple logo and a bunch of kernel code errors. I saw a pic online of someone else getting the same error message and the problem was referred to as a memory stacking issue where the ram may be bad in the iMac... Does anyone know how to fix this error so I can do a normal restart and not have to boot into safe mode? I have tried to run the apple hardware test, but I no longer have the system CDs...

• Please Help with Frequent Kernel Panics

Hi,
Over the last week I seem to be having constant kernel panics when using my 2011 iMac (OS X 10.7.4), they seem to happen primarily when using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and happen from about 5 minutes of using the program to about 30. Even if I am not using adobe though the kernel panic still happens after about 30 minutes. I uninstalled Adobe and all seemed fine, so I attempted to reinstall it, but part way through the process it kernel panic's again. I was wondering if it could be when I am doing stuff on system intensive programs, so I tried running a game of Civ V, and that didn't seem to have any problems.
Here's the specs of my iMac if it helps:

• 2010 iMac - frequent kernel panics in ML

Hi All,
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I'm getting (seemingly) random kernel panics, but I'm not sure what the cause is.
I've seen some indications that this may be a Google Chrome related issue, however I've seen one of these panic's whilst using Firefox, rather than Chrome.
I've ran a memory test, which found no issues.
Any ideas what this might be?

• Upgraded and now get Kernel Panic

Upgraded tonight and immediately got Kernel Panic's and now cannot boot from disk or in safe mode. Please please help. This is why I didn't want to upgrade.

I've been running SL for over a year on my 24" iMac. SL isn't the issue; most likely, bad RAM.

• My MBP suffers from DAILY "kernel panic" attacks. This has happened ever since I downloaded Lion. It appears to happen much more often than the Apple support page suggests it does. Once the MBP re-boots, it works fine, zips along in all programs.

My MBP suffers from "kernel panic" attacks on an almost daily basis. This has occured ever since I downloaded Lion. The Apple support page suggests that this is a rare occurance, but it happens to me almost every day. Most often, if I let the computer go to sleep or close the lid, I'll find that it won't "wake up" without a complete re-boot. It always sends a report to Apple and for a couple of days I thought the issue was resolved, but now it's happening again with increasing regularity. I've reinstalled Lion once already... Any suggestions?

We can't help without the KP. In the meantime, see

• Kernel Panics in Lion?

I was getting increasing KP,s in Lion so I took my early 2009 MBPro to the Genius. They returned it after 2 days and didn't tell me if they fixed it. Brought it home and it looked like they reinstalled 10.7.4. I had gone back to 10.7.3 and both 10.7.3 and 10.7.4 had frequent KP's when hardly running anything, including downloading from the App Store. I was getting KP's about every 10-15 minutes. Took several restarts to successfully download Mountain Lion. Installed it a few days ago and have had no KP's since.
I suspect that with the imminent release of ML, Apple did not want to solve the KP issue that so many have complained about. By my evaluation, this was not a Chrome or Safari issue, it was a bad 10.7.3 or 10.7.4 combo upgrade.
Anyway, if you want to get rid of KP's, try Mountain Lion. It solved my problem.

Installing an upgraded OS never solves a current OS problem. After posting the latest KP, see these:

• Kernel Panics for months now!

Before we get started, don't tell me to zap PRAM, do a permissions repair or a hardware test, I've done them all. I did replace a failing drive a while ago that was giving me trouble. Since I replaced it, the panics have been less frequent. I even re-installed my OS, which also helped a bit, but it still happens. The hardware test showed that all my hardware was fine, which I don't actually believe. It seems to me that the CPU or GPU are at fault, but if the GPU were at fault, I figure it would only occur when it was in use. I'm hoping it's a software issue. I'm a video editor and this happening is totally unacceptable. I'm clearly not the only person it has happened to either. I am frustrated beyond belief and refuse to have my computer shipped in to have repairs done as it is the source of my living. Even if a kernel panic occurs once in a while, I can still use it for work. It's a 2010 i7 MBP with a hi res screen. It's running 10.8, but I experienced this with 10.7 as well. Also the panics occur more frequently when the computer isn't plugged in, even at full charge.

...how did you got that info from the log?
I had the same thing happening to my MacBookPro6,2. Search here or elsewhere for "NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100" and find that you and I are not the only ones.
KPs can happen for a number of reasons. I'm not saying I can read all the logs, haha, but the one you posted here I can read very well...

• Kernel panic fun

I'm after a kernal panic log translation (see below)...
(I also posted this in the MacBook forum but got no responses...)
I have a 4 year old black MacBook, running SL, fully up to date. Been getting increasingly frequent KPs though not reproducible apart from that they're especially likely (pretty much inevitable, sooner or later) when running movies - streaming, iTunes, and one on the Apple site.
I've done all the usual - permission repairs, Disk Utility test, memtest. Archived and installed - no difference. Reformat and clean install - no difference. Unplugged the external HD - no difference. I've swapped out the RAM (2 x 1g, from Crucial) see if it was one or other card, but that makes no difference either. The only other peripherals are a screen and (old Mac white) keyboard, with a wireless mouse off it.
From what I've read, it seems the only possibilities are a screwed motherboard, or maybe bad RAM which memtest hasn't caught. Here's the kernel panic report - all thoughts gratefully received. I was looking in TM files on the external hard drive at the time, though it's not running.
