Kernel Panics often - can anyone decipher error message?

Hi, I am running a MacBook Pro 17" mid 2009 with Yosemite (connected to an Cinema Display)
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8gb 1333 MHz DDR3
SSD Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256mb
I work often in Adobe software, and I typically keep iTunes running playing music connected via Airplay to external speakers.
Lately I have been getting the black screen and the resulting error report. I am not tech-savvy enough to be able to decipher this report.
Does anyone know what this report is telling me? Looks like something with iTunes possiibly?
Any advice? I really don't even know where to begin looking for help - and I live hours away from the closest Apple store. There is a BestBuy with an Apple section and rep, but I don't think they offer comparable help.
Thanks so much!

Ok, thanks again! I am confused why my Mac tells me I can use 1333 Mhz DDR3 memory, when you are telling me I need to use 1067 MHx SDRAM?
Is there something I am missing or doing wrong here? Could the RAM I have in there now have gone "bad" somehow?
Sorry for confusion - I do appreciate your help - I'm just trying to understand and make sure this is the issue before I spend more money.
I also realized this morning that I had less than 10% free space on my hard drive, so I fixed that ... I know sometimes that causes issues.
Thanks again!

  • Kernel panic log - can anyone help me decipher?

I posted this in the Leopard discussion group, but didn't get much response. Can anyone here help me figure out what is causing kernel panics on my iMac G5? Here is the log for the latest one (they all seem to be the same):

This is what I've tried so far:
Ran hardware test: no problems reported
Ran memory test using Rember: 10 loops, no problems reported
Repaired disk permissions: two were repaired
I just replaced my hard drive and installed Leopard. The hard drive seems to be functioning perfectly, so I'm suspecting it's related to Leopard. I never had a kernel panic until the upgrade. I'm considering going back to Tiger. Thoughts?
Thanks for any help with this.

I upgraded 3 days ago to leopard and have had 5 or six kernel panics. I had the machine running panther for years and never had one before. All similar to what has been described in this thread. I have not been able to get through a time machine back-up all the way yet. I am afraid to leave the machine with time machine active now because the panic mode I get into usually puts the fan on full blast- Can't be good to run for hours like that. I am backing up a lot of files so I wonder if the size of the initial backup is causing the problem. I have gotten through about 150 GB worth with time machine before the crashes set in. If I make any progress I'll post.

  • Panic Log: can anyone decipher?

I've had 4 kernel panics so far on my 4 day old MBP, each time occurring while watching video of some sort (DVD and iTunes). I'm attributing it to heat, and I'll be taking it back to the Apple Store this weekend. One of the point of interest might be the fact that I've been using the iSkin over the keyboard since day one. According to their website, heat shouldn't be a problem, but they did not specifically mention testing on the MBP. At any rate, I've got this panic log, and I was wondering if any one could decipher it and lend some more insight into what's going on. Here it is:

In my crash reporter logs are two logs. One for "mdimportserver", and the other for "Frontrow". The funny thing is that for the time recorded for both of these crashes, I don't recall having a crash. So I don't know how useful it is. The crash event that happened this evening is recorded in the first log below at "Wed Jun 13 19:09:38 2007 crashdump[143]: crashdump invoked as panicdump"
At any rate, I don't want to waste anyone's time. I'm going to take this back to Apple in a couple of days. I'm sure they can figure it out. I was just curious about what this was all about, so if anyone is into challenges like this, feel free to chime in.
Here is a log from Console, under "/var/log > crashreporter.log":

  • My Late 2008 MacBook Pro has started rebooting itself due to kernel panics.  Can anyone review the log to help me troubleshoot?

I'm not sure if any recent activity spawned this activity but here's what I've done lately that's new...
I booted to the recovery disk and and ran the disk repair utility on my hard drive.  Then I ran the RecoveryDiskAssistant to create a bootable USB thumb drive, and then I attempted to create a disk image on an external USB hard drive.  About an hour after I started creating the image I aborted the image creation process.  Both the MacBook Pro and the external hard drive were very hot.
I was experimenting, attempting to create the disk image file onto an external hard drive that is half the size of my existing main hard drive, and was not sure the image would fit, so aborted the process before it completed once I realized it might be an overnight task.  I'm wondering if the heat caused by the intense disk activity may have cooked something on my logic board.  Or maybe somethign completely unrelated is the cause, like a recent patch or software update perhaps???
Can anyone help me identify a possible cause of the kernal panics from the two most recent log files attached below?

Answering my own question...  I did more research and have a theory that my Time Capsule hard drive may be causing the kernal panics due to a disk error.  I ran the disk utility to repair the time capsule drive (actually a 3TB Seagate USB drive plugged into my Airport Extreme router).  I plugged the drive directly into my MacBook Pro and ran the repair utility.  It noticed a "minor header" issue and repaired it.  I'm leaving all USB and Firewire devices unplugged for a while and will see if the panics return.  Six years without any problem with my MacBook.  Love Apple.  I'd get a new MacBook, but this one just keeps on working...

  • Kernel panic. Can anyone tell me what caused it?

My Macbook Pro has been having a lot of kernel panics recently, especially when I try to shut it down: It restarts before it can go off.
Can anyone pinpoint the hardware or software responsible? Here is the error report from the last one:

  • My mac keeps closing down due to kernel panics PLEASE can anyone HELP?

    Can anyone please help.
My mac keeps closing down at startup saying its had a kernel panic.
I've tried most suggestions as in restarting etc but still it happens.
Also I've noticed my logical volume memory says 499 GB used with only 16MB of memory left! Would this be attributed to my problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Kernel panic log: can someone decipher this for me, if possible?

My brother has an iMac G4 with 512 MB of RAM. This computer used to be fine and then a few months ago, it started having random kernel panics. He wiped the drive and reinstalled the OS and it was fine for about 3 months.
Now it's kernel panicking randomly about 2 times a day, when checking email or burning a CD or just browsing the web. I can cause it to panic every time I try to repair the permission. On a hunch, I removed the user Library folder, logged out and back in again. The OS created a new user Library folder. I then tried repairing permissions. No panic. Through a process of elimination, I narrowed the culprit down to several preference files, including a couple of login-related plists. Individually none of these plists caused the panice, but together they did.
So I deleted those plists and used fresh ones. I tried repairing permissions. First time, no panic. Second time, no panic. Third time, panic.
I can't figure out what's messing his system up. He has an external hard drive, a printer, usb camera, and an iPod attached. Disconnecting those doesn't stop the kernel panics. I also ran Apple's Hardware Test several times and it found nothing.
Here is the panic log. I would really appreciate someone's input and suggestions.

Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • I was Hacked. I also found a suspect file. Can anyone decipher it?

I know I was hacked by my ex-partner (i was pretty much told so and that I was easy to track down (i.e. my computer) through it's IP address using an old email).
I also found a unknown file at the top level of my hard drive. I know everything that is at this directory level.
I opened the file using word and it contained the following:
    DMFRAM -Error( 0): Can't open file: dt05tmp.01 !
    (repeated 5 times)
    Can anyone decipher this?
I am now really paranoid. I thought I was safe with Apple's built-in Firewall set to maximum security so learning this has caused me a lot of concern.
I have since purchased and installed NetBarrier and disabled the root user. Any other tips to secure my computer would be greatly appreciated.
    15" Powerbook 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
I also would like to check my logs to see if I can spot any unusual activity but i can only see the last three days in the ipfw.log? Can anyone tell me where to find older and/or the logs i should be looking at?
    Thanks in advance

Having the firewall turned on is only useful against mitigating attacks that target services you don't want/expect to run. It does nothing against protecting against services that you enable. For example, if you're running a web server you presumably want to allow people to hit it, therefore the firewall needs to allow port 80 traffic in. It's not validating that traffic to see whether it's a real request, or whether the web server software you're running contains a vulnerability (like the all-too-common sql-injection common to many discussion boards).
Even more importantly the firewall doesn't do anything to protect against weak passwords. The chances are your friend knows your name (he is your friend after all), so he has half the keys he needs to get into your machine if you have SSH/Remote Login enabled. Now all he has to do is try different password combinations until one works... pet's name, child's name, zip code, etc. Once he finds a match there's no firewall in the world that's going to stop him poking around your machine, and this is the likeliest cause of any break-ins.
What can you do about it? not much other than to use really good passwords and to disable any accounts that you don't absolutely need.
As for the logs, they're rotated and compressed weekly where the last four weeks' logs are /var/log/ipfw.0.gz, /var/log/ipw.1.gz, etc.
You can use Console.app to view the logs, or decompress them manually at the command line. However, it's unlikely to yield any results if he came in through a door that was unlocked.
What might be more useful is the system.log or secure.log which will log failed login attempts. I'm betting somewhere there (maybe in one of the .gzipped versions) there's a number of password failures (unless your password is really easy to remember.

  • How can we trigger error message in BADI PARTNER_UPDATE

    Hi All,
I have implemented a BADI PARTNER_UPDATE. In this I have validation ( Error Message ) on saving buisness partner.
It is giving the error message but it freeze all the fields. On pressing enter it goes for short dump.
In short dump it gives error The COMMIT WORK processing must not be interrupted.
Kindly suggest me that how can we pass error message and it also does not freeze the fields.
    Regards,
    Narendra Goyal

    Hi Narendra,
How are you trying to display message.
Is it using message service class instance of message statement (which should not be used, as that is for GUI messages) or using collect FM or by adding to genil message class container.
Please try different approaches and see what works for you.
    Thanks,
    Rohit

how i can display default error message in alert window
    i.e.,
i have a text field with datatype Alpha

    In the on-error trigger :
    Capture error_code and error_text in a variable.
Set the alert title to something meaningful.
Set the alert message equal to the captured error information.
    Display the alert.
    declare
    v_alert varchar2(100) := 'ERROR' ; -- name of alert to use
    v_title varchar2(100) := 'Error !' ; -- text to display as title
    v_msg varchar2(200) := error_code || ':' || error_text; -- message to display
    v_btn number ; -- button pressed
    begin
    set_alert_property( v_alert, TITLE, v_title );
    set_alert_property( v_alert, ALERT_MESSAGE_TEXT, v_msg );

@ Alternatively purchase an Elements 9 or 10.  Holding Elements13 but that needs OS 10.8 (Lion) and much of my data is in Appleworks, which is incompatble
Apologies if I am using this incorrectly.  My first time here

Hi.  Thanks for coming back to me.  I am using Mountain Leopard (OSX 10.6.8).  Had major problem and have re-formatted my H/D and re-installing software.  Must have lost a file in the process.  Would upgrade to Lion only I have a lot of vital data in Officeworks, but that is incompatible with Lion.

  • My macbook pro suddenly freezes; screen turns off and computer freezes.  Have to hard restart.  Error message appears upon restart, saying something about kernel, etc.  Can anyone please help on this issue?

For the past month or more I've encountered what I consider to be quite a serios problem with my Macbook pro.  The laptop suddenly freezes without warning, the screen turns black, while the hard drive apparently stals and the system no longer responds.  The only way to resolve this issues is to restart the computer via a hard reset.  After restarting, an error message box shows up asking me to report the error, which I've already done on numerous occassions.  The problem occurs at a frequency of 1 every 2-3 days, sometimes more often than that.  The error message that comes up is very complicated but contains some key words amongst which includes "kernel."  This makes me believe that it's an issue with the video card, and was wondering how I can remediate this problem so as to get the normal function of my laptop back.  If anyone can be of any help, I would greatly appreciate it.
