Kernel panics, upon waking
I am wondering if someone can help me understand my latest Crash log.
I have had my new Mini for only a month and had 9 Kernel panics in that time. I am stumped because I never had a Kernel panic in the 8 years I had my iMac. My iMac had Leopard but my Mini has Snow Leopard...
Lately the panics happen when I try to wake my computer up from sleep; nothing happens. I have to press the power button to restart, and upon restarting I get the error log.
I just ran Hardware Test and it found nothing wrong. I also repaired permissions. My external hard drive is not plugged in. I do have Glims (a Safari plugin) and Growl (a notification system) installed, but both are supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard.
Here is the latest Log:

I'd start by eliminating possible causes and seeing if the problem goes away.
Then add things back, one by one, and see which factor triggers the problem.
So ...
Turn off Glims and Growl -- and in System Preferences > Energy Saver, set the computer to never sleep and set the hard drive to not sleep. You can still have the monitor set to sleep.
If that stops the panics, then add each factor back in over time and see which one brings back the panics.
If you've done a RAM upgrade, you might also consider that as a possible cause.
Be sure to also run DiskUtility and verify your hard drive, as forced shutdowns and crashes can be hard on the disk.

Hi,
I have an Imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop which I have upgraded to lion.
Recently I keep getting kernel panics when waking from sleep mode and I cannot figure out what it is.
I am not very computer savy - I.e. I use a computer but don't know programming etc.
The computer then asks me to shut down and restart.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.
An example of the latest kernel panic log as as follows:

DaveHi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

Kernel panic when waking from sleep
My eMac (1Ghz, 256 Mb RAM, dual boot OS 9.2.2/OS X 10.2.8(upgraded from 10.2.4)) has a recurring but intermittent issue where it suffers from a kernel panic when waking from sleep.
In the past I managed to fix the issue by resetting PRAM and NVRAM, but this doesn't seem to work anymore.
Things I've found out until now:
- Apple Hardware Test and Techtool Deluxe can't find anything wrong (all tests are passed).
- No kernel panic log is written - apparently the kernel panic occurs before the log can be written.
- Crash appears to be network-related. My IP address and network card address are shown at the bottom of the panic window.
- After restarting, Finder windows revert to a state from two or three days ago...
- Login items aren't the problem. I removed them all - this doesn't make any difference.
- no weird things in the startup items folders, AFAIK.
I'm on the verge of reinstalling OS X, but I think I already did this a couple of years ago, and it didn't help.
Please help.
ThomasNominally, you'd download the OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 after reinstalling 10.2.4, then use Software Update to identify any additional security and other software updates. There was an issue with early builds of 10.2 failing the 10.2.8 udate if done directly, but working fine if one first updated to an intermediate version such as 10.2.6; I think that problem affected 10.2 through 10.2.3 and your 10.2.4 should be good to go directly to 10.2.8, but if there are any problems, you can go back to 10.2.4, then search the Apple Downloads link for 10.2.6, then 10.2.8
With 10.2.x, it's prudent to run Repair Permissions after each OS and security update before moving on to the next. -
Kernel panics on waking from sleep
Hi
I have a problem with my MBP, which is up to date with all the latest OSX and firmware updates as far as I can tell.
Quite often - at least once a day on average - the computer will go into a kernel panic on waking from sleep. It's not every time, and I haven't noticed any pattern in terms of battery state or whether it's connected to the power adaptor.
The computer wakes, and responds to keyboard/trackpad for about 2-3 seconds before grey comes down the screen and I get the box asking me to restart the computer.
I didn't have this problem before 10.5.6 although I did have some more minor problems with an earlier version (10.5.4 I think).
Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? Could it be anything to do with using an external HD networked to my router for Time machine backups?
Thanks
julianThe problem seems to have become less frequent since I installed 10.5.7 and (ii) turned off automatic Time Machine backups to the NAS. I now just run TM manually when I know the computer is going to be on for a while.

I get kernel paic upon boot. I did that hard drive cleanup and reinstalled Lion. What about memory? Anyone think I need to upgrade my memory? I have 8 G of upgraded RAM. (20 inch iMac core 2 duo)
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode. -
Kernel Panics after Waking from Sleep
Hey everyone, having some problems with my iMac I'm hoping you could help with:
I'm running a 2o" G5 iMac 1.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, with OS X 1o.4.7.
What is happening is that if I put my iMac to sleep, and then wake it after a few hours, I get Kernel Panics and have to restart 1-3 times(this has been going on for about a month). I'm also having programs unexpectedly close on me after being able to restart it(mainly Mail & iTunes). This doesn't happen if I only leave my iMac asleep for a 1-2 hours or so.
So I get 3 types of errors, the kernel panic with the different languages after waking the iMac. The kernel panic that displays white text on black bars running down the left side of my screen, after being able to reboot(randomly). And unexpected program shut downs, primarily when using Mail or iTunes.
What I've done:
-Reset the PRAM
-Removed all external hardware except mouse/keyboard.
-Ran the hardware disc check which determined I had a bad stick of RAM, so I removed it, and left the stick provided by Apple in.
-Deleted the plists Powermanagement & autoawake, deleted the cache files(per Apple support).
-Safe boot(still got the panics)
-Erase & Install after backing everything up.
When I re-tested using the clean boot for about a day, I didn't get the errors. However, when I reloaded my initial setup from by backup disk, I started getting the kernel panics after a few hours of sleep again.
I think the fact that I didn't get the panics running the clean boot has hopefully ruled out a hardware problem, so am I looking at some software that could be the culprit? Is there any easy way to narrow down what it might be, or if it's another issue altogether?
Thanks for any help provided, and let me know if I need to provide any further info!
20" iMac G5/15" PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)Thanks for all the helpful ideas everyone(Miriam especially).
I tried logging in as another (new) user, and experienced the same problems. Nothing showing on the activity monitor that I can see as the problem either.
Looks like I'll be heading back down to the Apple store to see what can be done. I had taken it down before, but it was after I had done a clean install, and they couldn't recreate it after 1 hour of sleep, and I didn't want to pay $75 to keep it over night. But I have my crash logs now, and hopefully they'll be a little more receptive the second time around.
Thanks again!

Kernel Panics when waking from sleep? 2012 MBA Base Model
I've been having some trouble with my 2012 MacBook Air. It was running perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when waking from sleep, I am getting Kernel Panics that force the restart of my Mac. I was wondering if anyone could provide insight on the issue.

Alternatively you can boot into Safe Mode which will not load those device drivers, and see if you panics cease. If they do, then you can uninstall the software. BTW, the current version of Virtual Box is VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-OSX. -
Kernel panic upon first attaching new Apple USB keyboard
Brought home a new Apple USB external keyboard today -- I love the feel of it. I barely have to touch the keys at all. I attached it while the MacBook Pro was powered off.
Upon powering it on for the first time, imagine my surprise to see a kernel panic over the login screen!
Figuring +post hoc ergo propter hoc+, I assumed it was the new keyboard that had caused the kernel panic, but now I'm not so sure. Here's the log:

The good news is that I've restarted a couple times since, and it proceeded normally past the login screen without a kernel panic. But should I exchange the keyboard for a different one while I can? What's oddest is that this doesn't look like a USB-related crash to me. Any advice would be appreciated.Brought home a new Apple USB external keyboard today -- I love the feel of it. The good news is that I've restarted a couple times since, and it proceeded normally past the login screen without a kernel panic. But should I exchange the keyboard for a different one while I can? What's oddest is that this doesn't look like a USB-related crash to me. Any advice would be appreciated. -
Kernel panic when waking PowerBook from sleep on a new network
I occasionally take my PowerBook from home to work, and lately there have been several instances of my PB having a kernel panic when I plug in the ethernet cable and wake it from sleep. I have not tested this extensively, but it seems to occur under the following conditions:
1. PB is disconnected from network location 1, and the lid is closed so that it goes to sleep.
2. PB is moved to network location 2, the ethernet cable at that location is plugged in, and then the computer lid is opened, causing the computer to awake from sleep.
3. The computer has a kernel panic immediately on awaking.
I believe, but am not absolutely positive, that this does not occur if I awake the computer first, and then plug in the ethernet cable. Unfortunately that order of doing things is counter-intuitive to me, as I tend to want to plug everything in before waking the computer up.
Possibly a factor: At my home location I have a manually assigned IP address and other location-specific settings, whereas at work I change the network settings to fully automatic once the computer starts up.Hello DistantThunder
In most cases kernel panics are a result of a hardware error on some cases a software error.
I would suggest you look at an excellent procedure for resolving these issues on Dr Smoke's website.

Power Mac G5 Kernel Panics After Waking From Sleep
My G5 has been kernel panicking intermittently the last few weeks. I brought it in to the Apple Store and they ran Apple System Diagnostics (ASD) on it, but found no errors. However, they were able to get it to kernel panic after running it on a full processor load for a couple hours.
After getting the machine back, it has been pretty stable, but it will kernel panic within a minute of waking it up from sleep. Therefore, I can't put the machine to sleep anymore. Once in awhile, it also kernel panics during the boot process.
A few times, including today, the memory also shows up incorrectly in the System Profiler. Right now, my G5 says only 3 GB of RAM are installed when there are actually 4 GB. The Profiler shows six 512 MB chips when there are actually four 512 MB chips and two 1 GB chips in the machine.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this and how I might be able to fix it?
Thanks. Thanks for the suggestion. I disconnected the MyBook drive from the Firewire 800 port, then put the G5 to sleep again. When I woke it from sleep, it ran almost five minutes, then kernel panicked.
So I did a test with half the RAM and had the same problem. Then I tested the other half of the RAM and the same kernel panics happened. I tried different DIMM slots and it kernel panicked no matter what I tried. The last few times, it just froze without displaying the kernel panic screen.
The kernel panics started happening when I installed the August security update. So I decided to install Leopard on a secondary internal drive. The installation went smoothly and I ran some programs for a new minutes with no external drive attached. Then I put the computer to sleep. When I woke it up about an hour later, the cursor was gone and the screen was frozen.
So I am pretty confused. The computer runs fine as long as I don't put it to sleep. But if I wake it up from sleep, it is a ticking time bomb before it crashes. Is there anything else I can try? -
Occasional Kernel Panics when Waking From Sleep
I bought my black MacBook a couple weeks after release and have had no problems so far. However, twice I had a kernel panic directly after waking from sleep. It happens so infrequently that it's a real curiosity to me when it does happen, since I've put the machine to sleep and woke it at least twice each day since I've owned it.
Yes I do have third-party ram, but it tests out fine with memtestx and Apple's own hardware diagnostics. I'd point the finger at it as well if it happened more than 2 out of probably 100 sleep/wake cycles.

But if your computer is panicking only when waking I'd look at hardware hardest. Do you have any peripherals connected? If so disconnect them. Also, be sure that once you've put the computer to sleep that you don't disconnect any firewire or USB devices. The Mac seems to really hate that. If you are connected to a USB hub the hub could be the issue. And unfortunately a Mac isn't the best test bed for memory checking so even if your memory is coming up okay from memtest it could still be marginal.

Kernal Panic upon waking from sleep
Has anyone had an issue with kernal panics upon opening the macbook pro after it has been sleeping for a bit. It seems to happen when the computer is closed and I open it and it has been unplugged and then plugged in right when the computer is turned on it kernal panics, below is the entire error log, not sure if this will help anyone help me find a solution to this very annoying problem! Any help would be appreciated and I am curious if others have this issue. I am hoping that it is something that I can fix though..
Thanks!

It seems as if I have the computer closed for an extended period of time, I would get an immediate kernel panic when I opened up the computer. So far, according to my panic.log, i have had 9 such crashes.
I did a reset of the PMU, disabled hibernatemode and none of that solved the problem. I'll try reinstalling everything (next week after I get my new external HD) and see if that solves the problem. Maybe this is caused by a hardware flaw? It just recently started to happen, and when I first got my MBP, this type of crash didn't happen. Other than that, my computer has been perfectly stable. Here's a sample of my panic.log

Kernel panic on waking from sleep
About three months ago I had a persistent issue where waking my Powerbook 12" from sleep caused a kernel panic. I resolved it by resetting the PRAM (holding down cmdoption+pr while booting), but now it seems to have started up again and zapping the PRAM isn't doing it. It doesn't happen EVERY time I wake, but it's definitely been a theme in the last few days.
It started right after a DVD got stuck in the drive and wouldn't mount, or eject, even when ordered to do so through open firmware. The DVD came out a day later, after a kernel panic, followed by an error prompting me to eject the disc on log in. I'm really not sure if that's related...
Any advise would be greatly appreciated! The Power Manager is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of the PowerBook and iBook. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

32 bit Kernel Panic upon upgrade, 64 bit Kernel boots fine.
Greetings,
I just did a regular update from 10.5 to 10.6, and upon completion of the upgrade I can't boot into the 32 bit Kernel without a Kernel Panic. I can freely boot into the 64 bit kernel, and it works fine. Anyone else experience this? I could do a full re-install, but before I go through all that shenanignas I would just like to see if anyone might have some advice for me.
Thanks!
DavidHave you tried both ways: booting normally and booting holding down 3-2?

Mid-2012 macbook pro gets kernel panics when waking from sleep
Hi all,
I got a new mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) at the end of Oct which started kernel panicking pretty much from day one. The kernel panics only occur when the computer is put to sleep and reawaken after more than an hour or so has passed. I get a grey screen that eventually shows text like "Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Please wait a few seconds or press any key to continue" and then the OS boots up again. Bizarrely, this doesn't usually happen if the computer has only been asleep for a short time - i.e. 15 min or less.
Below is the kernel panic log, which seems to suggest there's an issue with the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Advice is much appreciated.
