Kernel Power error after Win 7 and RAM upgrade
Hello,
I posted earlier on the subject of win7 and ram upgrades. I did both and it seemed to go fine. I did the ram first ... replaced a 667Mhz 1gb with a 800Mhz 2gb. A couple of days later the computer just shut itself down and restarted. Since then it has done it another 5 times, seemingly at random. Yesterday I decided to spend some time looking into it and found the 'event log'. All the shutdowns are recorded as 'critical'. A search on the web/here showed other occurences of the fault associated with drivers as much as anything.
After I did the win update I did update almost every driver with ones from this site.
Other than the shutdowns the only issues I have which are of very mild concern are the length of time the fingerprint reader takes to be present and that occasionally the cursor is unavailable for about a minute after logging on. When you try and control it it jumps about anywhere but where you want it to go. I rolled back the alps driver and that seems to have sorted the cursor issue.
So, details of the shutdown from the event log are as follows.
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 16/01/2011 16:21:31
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)
Level: Critical
Keywords: (2)
User: SYSTEM
Computer: (removed by me)
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
There's more (I've shown it all below) but it's not that important. When I looked into it I found details of the problem on the microsoft knowledge base. Its described here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504.
I believe I fit into scenario 3 for cause and resolution.
So, it seems that win7 and mixed speed ram may be a problem on some computers ... probably only a tiny number, but it looks like the HP3507 is one of them. I did see somewhere that I could down speed from 667 to 266 which might help with memory compatability but I can't see anywhere on the the insydeH20 bios where to do it. BIOS is version F18 .... upgraded from F15 as part of the Win7/RAM ugrade.
Before I swap back to the 'old' memory I'll see if anybody here can come up with any ideas. It may be that I have to sell off the expensive 2gb memory (ddr2 800mhz 200 pin) for £39.99 from maplin at a bargain price and get 2gb of 667Mhz from somewhere.
The full 'detail' regarding the fault is below.
Bye for now.
Phil

Hi DWeiland and Schwede,
Thanks for your replies. Yes I did the runtime engine registry change and also mass compiled the LV7.1 folder and my sourcecode. I still see the problem as I have set the LV adapter as Lv 7.1.1 runtime engine. Now I have changed it to LV7.1 development system. With this setting, it is not giving any error. Thus I don’t see any problem now. The older version of the code had the adapter as the runtime engine for some reason, now I have changed the setting to the development system. I hope that it shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks again!
Thank you,
Sasi

What can I do if I get an internal power error after upgrading to Windows 10?
QuestionWhat can I do if I get an internal power error after upgrading to Windows 10?
AnswerSome laptops with AMD graphics that upgraded to Windows 10 are showing blue screens with error messages regarding Internal_Power_Error. If you receive this error, try the procedure in this article.
First, you'll need to quickly set the boot options to Safe Mode:
1. Hold the Windows key and press 'R' to open the run box.
2. Type MSCONFIG, then press ENTER.
3. Select the BOOT tab.
4. Under BOOT OPTIONS, check Safe boot, then select Minimal.
5. Click Apply, then OK.
6. Click Restart. (If prompted, click Restart anyway.)
From Safe Mode disable the AMD Display Driver:
1. Hold the Windows key and press the 'X' key to open a menu in the lower-left.
2. Click Device Manager.
3. Expand Display adapters to show the two display adapters.
4. Double click AMD Radeon R9 M200X Series.
5. Select the Driver tab.
6. Click Disable, then click Yes to confirm.
7. Click Close.
8. Hold the Windows key and press the 'R' key to open the run box.
9. Type MSCONFIG, then press ENTER.
10. Select the BOOT tab.
11. Uncheck Safe boot.
12. Click Apply, then OK.
13. Click Restart. (If prompted, click Restart anyway.)
From Windows 10 started with the AMD Display Driver disabled:
1. Hold the Windows key and press the 'X' key to open a menu in the lower-left.
2. Click Device Manager.
3. Expand Display adapters to show the two display adapters.
4. Double click AMD Radeon R9 M200X Series.
5. Select the Driver tab.
6. Click Update Driver.
7. Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
8. An AMD driver should be found and installed.
The driver that originally caused this problem is AMD display driver version 15.200.1046.2 dated 7/15/2015.
The driver installed through this process might have an older date, such as 15.200.1055.0 dated 7/6/2015. That's okay.I'm having the same problem. I got error message 21. I went to apple store. they are saying i have a hardware error. Really, my phone was working before the update. Asked me for $150 to get another one when I am due to get a new one and wanted to pass this one on to my child.
Help please,
I will be glad to go back to the older software update -
HDD and RAM Upgrade Questions...
I am thinking about upgrading my HDD and memory. My computer is a Qosmio X870-BT3G23. HDD is about 1TB and also have 12GB RAM. I am not sure how to upgrade my RAM as I heard the other 2 memory slots are not user accessable. How would I go about upgrading HDD and transfer all my stuff over? I think my computer has slots for 2 HDDs, but not sure... Thoughts on both HDD and RAM upgrade appreciated
Qosmio X870-BT3G23Skeet, here are the SPECIFICATIONS for your machine if you have not seen them. And on pages 44-53 of your User's Guide is a very thorough description of the adding memory process. As far as transferring files are concerned, at the Start screen, type Easy Transfer, hit Enter and follow instructions.
The specifications indicate you can have 16GB memory in the two accessible memory slots without concerning yourself about the 2 hidden slots. I personally can't imagine why anyone could need more than 16GB memory and 1TB HDD but, of course, that's your call.

After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow.
After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac to latest on 02/15, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow. even 5 mins song takes 10-15 mins to start. Netflix/Youtube work fine on Apple TV. restarted Mac, router, modem, appletv. reset Appletv to factory setting and re-start.
Apple TV 2 does not appear in iTunes (exception being when connected via micro-usb for restore) as it has no sync capabilities.
See if this helps

After upgrading to 10.6.8, I almost immediately began experiencing multiple random kernel panic errors. I reinstalled the operating system that came with my notebook from the cd (10.6?) and the problem went away. I upgraded again to 10.6.8 and again began experiencing the same error. I have since gone back and installed the operating syatem from the cd and then upgraded to 10.6.7. I have not had a single kernel panic error since, but I would like to upgrade to 10.6.8 so that I can install Lion when it is avaialable. Any thoughts as to how I can do this without experiencing all of the accompanying kernel panic errors?
Thank you. The log is below:

So i purchased a mid 2009 Macbook Pro from a guy with 4 gb of ram and 250gb hard drive. It worked perfectly fine when i booted it with his hard drive and ram installed.
I spilled beer in my old computer (late 2009 15" 500gb hard drive and 8gb ram) but took the hard drive to get tested and it worked fine. i later found out it was from a 2010.
Like an idiot i assumed the pro i just purchased would be able to handle the same upgrades that were in my old computer so i threw in the 500gb hard drive (2010) and the 8gb of ram.
The thing booted up fine, just a bit slow which i chalked up to my hard drive sitting unplugged for a long time.
After about 3 minutes it crashed on me. Confused i replaced the 4gb of original ram back into it. (the 8gb ram was pny i bought from ebay so i thought it could be that) It decided not to turn on or show any lights on the front except for the battery meter.
After this i replaced the original hard drive and still NO LUCK!! im really mad because i am in desperate need of the information on my original 500gb hard drive and im afraid i have destroyed 2 computers and about $1K worth of cash out the window.
HELP please enlighten me on what i have done and if the situation can be fixed.UPDATE: Problem solved with the old hard drive in it, Now the less pressing issue:
Will the computer run my 500gb hard drive with all my information on it? I need to forward a resume and it is on that hard drive. -
¿Why my Windows 7 Pro have Kernel-Power error 41?
Hello, good morning, I installed Windows 7 Professional Edition and each time freezes and restarts, I open the event viewer and I see several critical events would like to see if someone can help me. They say "Event 41, Kernel-Power", I occasionally
happen ... especially when browsing internet through a USB modem ZTE MF-193, but I have also occurred trying to play games like Half Life 1 or Warcraft 3.

I sincerely appreciate your support, I really like windows 7 but Windows XP I never thought such failures in the last hour I had 2 of them in the last 24 hours I've had 4 and in the last 7 days I've had 25.
It is a very distressing situation.YM
These were called BCC116 and are related to a video timeout/failure
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the Blue Screen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".
Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OS's like XP to crash.
As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.
If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.
The first step is to install the newest video driver.
If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.
Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.
Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.
If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.
I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Lenovo Yoga 11s SSD and RAM Upgrade - Great Results
Picked up a Lenovo Yoga 11s from Best Buy. I chose Best Buy for price, color, and processor. They had a slightly better deal than Lenovo.com. The clementine color looks great. Quality is great. I'm very happy with the purchase. It has the i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD.
I upgraded the SSD and RAM and found the upgrade relatively easy. Here is a basic step by step and results. (note the parts I chose increased the cost by close to $400. I chose these parts based on quality, performance, and power usage. There are cheaper alternatives, but I wanted an upgrade and money was not my concern.)
Upgraded Parts
RAM - Patriot Memory 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHZ CL11 1.35V - Purchased at Newegg, but could have saved a couple dollars on Amazon.
I chose this part based on previous experience with Patriot and the low voltage RAM. A lot of the RAM is higher voltage and I wanted to make sure I reduced heat and power usage. When you look for 1.35V RAM, there are not a lot of options...
MSata SSD Drive - Intel SSD 525 Series 240GB Drive
Intel SSD Page
I purchased through Newegg
I chose the Intel drive based on previous experience with Intel. They cost more, but I've found their performance to be good and reliability good. There is also a good review on this drive on Tomshardware Tomshardware Intel 525 Review. Toms review shows top performing drive and low power. I also looked at many other manufacturers and Intel had the lower power consumption. This means less heat and longer battery life.
Cloning Software
Intel provides a free cloning software from Acronis
My Digital SSD MSata external case
I purchased through Newegg.
Nice quality device. I used this to help in cloning the OEM SSD to the new Intel drive.
T5 Torx Screw Driver
I purchased this from Home Depot T5 Torx Home Depot
I read all the reviews, posts and issues around cloning the Win8 SSD drives. Many people have/had issues. I was prepared for problems. Another reason I chose Intel, as they have migration software that I felt would be top notch.
You need to have the Hardware Manual handy. I read how to remove keyboard and top cover. This is required to upgrade RAM and SSD. It was very easy. Take your time. Note, this is very different than the Yoga 13 youtube video for part removal. I think it's easier. Here is the link to download manual Yoga 11s Hardware Manual.
How to clone your SSD
I expect if you're doing this project you can learn how to use the Intel software for cloning. Read the web, watch their youtube video. Read the manual...
Remove your factory SSD and insert new Intel SSD (note, you must insert Intel drive in notebook for cloning. Do not try and clone on the USB external drive. Intel software will not detect drive properly). Create a bootable version of the Intel software on a USB drive. Install your factory OEM SSD in the external MSata SSD drive. Go to BIOS and set boot to support legacy, no fast boot, boot to USB.
Boot to the Intel Acronis app on the USB drive. Then connect your OEM SSD via second USB port.
Then follow the wizard on Intel's software. Cloning process took less than 5 minutes.
Unplug your USB devices, go to BIOS and set all all your boot settings back to factory UEFI, fast boot etc.
The PC booted to windows second try. The first time it said it has issues and went through a process to repair. It then said it failed. I rebooted again and it went straight to windows. Did all my windows updates and everything is fine.
Performance
Windows Performance Improvement
Memory - Factory score was 5.9 - Patriot Memory is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
Hard Drive - Factory score was 6.2 - Intel 525 Drive is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
This pc is crazy fast booting and shutting down. It boots in 7 seconds. Not sure it's really faster than OEM, but I've never seen a pc boot this fast.
Over all performance is fast. I installed Office 2010 pro from a USB drive in under 5 minutes. Web browsing is crazy fast. I'm super impressed with the speed of this pc. Much faster than I expected.
Size, Shape, Weight, color is great. Performance is great. Happy with upgrades and quality of parts. May be my best notebook purchase to date. I don't have any battery life numbers to report yet. Everything is new and I haven't really spent much time off the charger.
Issues I've experienced during this upgrade of parts
I first tried to clone the SSD drive by putting the Intel drive in the USB enclosure first. The intel software would not work as the PC detects the external SSD drive as a SCSI drive and Intel cloning software could not identify the drive as an Intel Sata drive. I called Intel and they had no advice or help. I also tried a few other cloning softwares that ultimately did not work. As a last resort I switched the drives and everything worked great. Lesson learned, swap the drives first and use Intel software to clone.
Factory restore - doesn't work. Not sure why the factory restore is not working on my new Intel drive. Windows works great! All the partitions are there. I suspect I messed up the OEM restore portion of the drive. At one point I thought I had booted to the Intel drive, and tried the restore (I had about 7 failed cloning tries before the final one worked as I outlined above). It went through the restore process and then failed. However, what I later found was that I had actually booted to the OEM drive in the external USB case and I may have corrupted the restore functionality.
I contacted Lenovo Support and explained I could not restore using the 1 key restore. They walked me through some basic troubleshooting and then opted to mail me factory restore disk. I have the disk and will keep them available for when/if I ever need to restore.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I upgraded from the Yoga 13 to the 11S and am happy to report that the machines are so identical that apparently you can just yank the SSD from one and drop it in the other. I had upgraded my 13" to 240gB SSD + 8gB RAM and simply plopped the two components into the 11S and after about 30 seconds of Windows alerting me that it was 'setting up devices' the machine booted normally and has been working perfectly since!

An update from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro has occurred automatically on one of my machines.
Prior to the upgrade (from memory) the machine had an OEM Partition (40MB), EFI System Partition (500MB), Recovery Partition (8.17GB) and OS (C:) partition. Only the latter was visible in Computer.
After the 8.1 upgrade there are two additional partitions, Recovery (500MB) and Recovery (450MB). All the partitions are now displayed in This PC as drives except the 40MB OEM Partition.
When viewed in This PC both the two new drives (that appear to equate to the new partitions) show as 499MB each with the same amount of free space. In Disk Management the first new partition is shown as 500MB and the second as 450MB.
I have SugarSync installed on this machine and since the upgrade it is displaying an error telling me it won't work because the two new drives have the same Volume Serial Numbers.
Clearly something has gone wrong with the upgrade:
Is there any way to resolve the Volume Serial Number conflict?
Is there any way to stop all these drives appearing in This PC?
Do I need the two new partitions and if not how can I get rid of them? There is a fourth path to upgrading to Windows 8.1 provided by Microsoft. Microsoft have been displaying automated reminders from time to time on Windows 8 computers that Windows 8.1 update is available to download - from these reminders it is possible to
choose either Install or Not Now. Just recently these reminders have changed, they are instead notifying the user that the Windows 8.1 Update will be installed automatically or the user has options to postpone the installation for 1hr, 2hrs, etc. The
user of this computer tells me she went away from the machine and Windows 8.1 update installed automatically from one of these prompts.
I have seen these installation prompts on several of my customer's computers and they are not malware related (I deal with malware removal every day and would recognise this). However, I have scanned this computer with Bit Defender and MalwareBytes and there
are no infections present.
The only difference between this Windows 8.1 Update and the others that I have carried out is that it wasn't controlled and therefore I wasn't able to disable the security software (Bit Defender Internet Security 2015). This may be the cause of the problem.
I've uploaded the two screenshots you asked for - the two new drives are W: and Z: and SugarSync is reporting that they have the same Volume Serial Numbers. Note: X: and Y: were not visible prior to the upgrade.
There are two Windows Update logs at C:\Windows\ so I will upload both. -
Hard Drive and RAM upgrades for latest 15" MBP
I'm minutes from ordering a new MBP. Only concerns are whether I get hte Apple upgrades or shop around.
I like this Hard Drive...
http://www.compu2000.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6433
And this RAM upgrade...
http://www.a-power.com/product-10937-311-4
If these are equivalent to the apple options I can save hundreds and get a 320 GB drive, which will make a great portable.
So, does my plan hold water? You're on your own for support when you do your own upgrades like this, but generally speaking, it works fine.
Note that HDD is less risky than RAM. With RAM you run the risk of unstable behavior that is tougher to diagnose. That said, a quality RAM upgrade and some initial testing with any of many available tools is as good as a factory build.
HDD upgrades are less risky, and I've upgraded (well, replaced after HDD death) ones in my MBPs many many times. I crunch my hard drives more than normal and have to generally replace them about every year. Some of the MBPs don't make this easy, and prepare to get all sorts of cozy with little 0 and 1 sized Phillips screwdrivers and some T6 as well, but it is doable (just not quite for the truly faint of heart).
Again, you're on your own for support once you do this, so weigh that in your decision. -

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.

Satellite P850-31L thinks Intel HD GPU driver is old after Win 8.1 upgrade
Hi there,
I have had my Satellite P850-31L since last year and recently updated to windows 8.1.
This laptop has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card and it use to say that on my dxdiag.
Since updating to windows 8.1 my laptop seems to think I have a Intel HD Graphics 4000 and apparently it's out of date.
When I go on their site to test for the update.
I got told my graphics card is 'up to date' yet every thing else - including my toshiba driver manager says it's out of date.
I've tried updating yet I keep getting a message saying my system setting aren't good enough.
Anyne got any suggestions on what i can do.
Can I get my laptop to stop thinking it has a intel graphics when it has the NVIDEA chip> defterniko
After Windows 8.1 upgrade you should visit the Toshiba EU driver page and should update the drivers and utilities to the Windows 8.1 version.
Most people forget to do that they update the system from Windows 8 to Win 8.1 but dont update the drivers.
As mentioned by user IronMan; the installation instruction which is available on the Toshiba EU driver page shows you the driver and tool which needs to be updated and you should also follow the installation order mentioned in this instruction. -
Kernel Panic Error after waking from sleep mode
My MacBook Air (5.2) was purchased in February and has been back to the Genius Bar twice to try to identify the issue causing the kernel panic error that occurs after the computer is placed in sleep mode (running on battery or AC). GB was unable to reproduce the errors when the laptop was left overnight during it's most recent visit (4/18/13). This leads me to believe it's related to my wireless router/printer drivers. Very frustrating and I'm just about ready to turn this back into Apple since I'm wasting more time trouble-shooting than enjoying the computer!

- How do I remove it?

I never should have added ram and a Zif 1ghz G3 at the same time... can't trouble shoot as easily now.
I've done my personal obligatory 2 day search for answers before posting a question....
I've done all the yada yadas with CUDA and battery....
I've found several people with this problem on the net. One gentleman in particualar purchased a new logic board on ebay and WALA it worked... which way do I go?
Any help would be cool. I ebayed the ram but did my research and found it to be compatible. Oh, and the ram was seated correctly too.
Thanks.Ok your BWG3 had a 450MHz G3 and you upped to a 1GHz G3 Zif upgrade and Added RAM.
After any major upgrade its good habit to reset the CUDA/PMU swtich. you said you've done that.
I am going to assume the 1GHZ G3 CPU is from PowerLogix, I know very recently PowerLogix upgraded the CPU/Cache software for OSX Tiger so you should make sure you've go the most recent version for that.
I do not know if a Firmware upgrade is required to upgrade the BWG3 to the 1GHZ G3, i know to upgrade it to a G4 processor a firmware upgrade is mandatory. You should check with the Maker of the 1GHz G3 processor if the computer required any Firmware upgrades.
Your RAM. BWG3's have a 100MHz system bus so if you max the RAM out you would of put in 4x 256MB PC100 168pin 3.3v unbuffered non-parity SDRAM DIMM's. If you used PC133 you should have all 4 DIMMs be the same Speed and Spec. Mixed RAM of different speed is not good.
I sincerely hope when you swapped out the processor and RAM you were wearing an anti-static wrist strap otherwise a static discharge could have easily rendered your computer unusuable in any manner of ways.
not sure much else to ask or suggest. but I do hope you get it to work again. -
Error after 10.7.4 Lion Upgrade to iMac
Computer's local host name .......is already in use on this network. the name has been changed to........
and it keeps adding up the number each time I wake the iMac.
What to do to get it back before upgrade error?Ok worth repeating, hope this works. Finally spoke to AppleCare Support and walked me thru following...restart computer holding down "command" and "option" keys at the same time with letters "P" and "R" when computer turns on. This is what he called a PR restart, clears out discrepancies in memory (if that is what the error message actually is). Then went to Systems Preferences/Network/Sharing and deleted the number that kept increasing every time MAC would wake up.
Even tho this was just done, I am hopeful that error pop-up won't happen again. Fingers crossed!

Using hyperlink to toggle layer visibility?
Okay, I've got a few threads going in other forums on this, and I'm getting a little frustrated with retyping it all, so I'm going to try to be brief... if you have any questions on what I'm trying to do, sorry for being vague, just ask and I'll try
