Key Commands Printable List
Does anyone know of a printable list (posibbly pdf) of the most commonly used key commands por Logic?
Thanks for the help.
Someone posted a very nicely done PDF of the default key commands in the "Tips and Tricks" section at http://LogicProHelp.com

10.1's Key Command Preset list now, for some reason on my testbed Mac, includes a Pro Tools preset which was selected by default.... after the update
Had to manually change it back to U.S. preset....
This testbed Mac has never had any version of PT installed on it nor any Avid products....
This key command preset was not present prior to the 10.1 update
The fact it was selected by default after the upgrade is a little worrisome....Maybe it is a hint that Apple secretly bought Avid (finally) and ProTools will be merged into Logic into the next update "Logic Pro XI"

Is there a key command for "none" when making a list but I'm finished
When I am making a numbered list, Pages automatically adds numbers to the next line when I hit "return."
for example
1) sdjfskdfdsjdk
2) ahfghfdghfdhnvbcnbncbv
3) tereteewtrterwtret
4)
In this case, there are only three elements, but Pages goes ahead and thinks I'm going to keep going with the list.
Is there a key command I can map that will "de-number" the fourth line so I can keep typing without having to go up to the task bar and select "none"?Pages User Guide which is also for you claims :
As pressing return twice doesn't behave well here, I decided to use the second sceme return + delete which works well every time.

Need key commands list - complete
can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:

How do I find out if the pressed key is printable?
I have made a game and now I'm working on a hiscore table for it. But with my function the program doesn't know if the pressed key is printable or if it's shift, ctrl or something like that. And I made it possible to enter maximum 40 letters as name, so if the user holds the shift key for a while then the whole String is filled with shift characters and nothing shows on the screen and he/she isn't able to type in any more letters... So is there any way to find out if the pressed key contains a printable char?
This is what my function looks like now. My program is quite big so I just post the function and try to explain what is happening
/* high is an array of
int score;
String name;
boolean WritingName;
boolean GAMEOVER;
boolean newgame;
public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
if (GAMEOVER){ // checks if the game has ended
char button = e.getKeyChar();
int keyCode = e.getKeyCode();
if (newgame){ // this is false if the hi-score list is showing otherwise its true. i.e. its true when typing name for hiscore list
if (keyCode == 10) { // check if the pressed key is enter
WritingName = false; // Tells an other function that the user has finished typing his/her name so it can save it and start showing the hiscore-list on the screen
} else {
if (keyCode == 8){ // check if the pressed key is backspace and if so removes the last char from the string
if (high[99].name.length() > 0){
high[99].name=high[99].name.substring(0,high[99].name.length()-1);
} else { // if any other key is pressed then add it to the end of the string
if (high[99].name.length() <= 40 ) high[99].name += button;
paint(getGraphics());
} else { // checks if space is pressed to stop showing the hiscore-list and start a new game
if (keyCode == 32) newgame = true;
}But with my function the program doesn't know if the pressed key is printable or if it's shift, ctrl
or something like thatProbably the easiest way is to check and see if e.getKeyChar() < a space character or if e.getKeyCode() >= 127. You can use e.getModifiers() to get the modifier, etc... -- take a look at the documentation for java.awt.event.KeyEvent class.

Key Commands - Assignment not working?
I'm trying to add key commands to have everything 'at hand' but they get listed and don't work.
Example:
I open key commands, search for 'automation', select "View Track Automation" and assign it 'Control + T'. It's in there, it is also in the arrange window's view menu. But when I type 'Control + T' nothing happens.
Still works in the pull down menu.
Am I missing something?Im having a similar problem. i assign apple space to the 'play from beginning' command but it doesnt work. im following the instructions in a the martin sitter logic pro book so i dont believe im doing it wrong.
if it was already assigned to something else then why would it let you assign it to a different command?
anyhow, its clearly not in my case - when i press the keys all that happens is the cursors toggles to scissors. in fact it does that when only press the apple key. So its just ignoring my assignment, is it?
of course, i know it doesnt 'ignore' it in the irrational sense i imply - there must be a reason. i want to know what it is. -
Hi. I know this may be trivial but I've been searching everywhere for a key command for toggling cycle mode with no success. Anyone who knows would be so kind to help. Also, is there a list of default key commands anywhere that can be found? I looked for it in the manuals but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance.
Did you customise that yourself, or is it one of the language/region differences?
I've been with Logic since Logic 1.x. I've been known to customise my own key commands plenty (which is the key to a powerful, fast, efficient and bespoke workflow).
They evolve over time, of course. Like how they stopped letting you assign the tab key in LP8. Tab has been my "set rounded locators and play and cycle selection" for fifteen years until LP8... grr...
I set up what makes most sense to me, not what makes most sense to some random guy in Hamburg.
No one else works in Logic the exact same way as me, or uses the same functions in the same way. I set up the things I need to keys that make the most sense. I may constantly use function X and therefore assign to a single key, and never use function Y and so deassign it. You may rely on function Y but never user function X at all. So how can a generic set of key commands work optimally for every persons unique workflow and requirements?
If you already know where to look & how to search!
Yeah, of course. I'm just talking general cases really...
The main problem is often not knowing what something is called, therefore not having the ability to easily search the documentation. That's where other users can give a valuable heads up.
Eg type "key commands" into the search of the manual... -
Hi everyone
I'm woking on Gem Xpresso card which support scp 02.
I can Authenticate successfully and Install and load my applet on it. but I have problem in put key command.
my first key set is:
47454d5850524553534f53414d504c45
and this is the key that I want to set as my new key:
404142434445464748494a4b4c4d4e4f
with the algorithm that I use the encrypt value of this key will be :
33173C8ECDA55BDF7E50625531BE4FC5
and its check value will be :
8BAF47
so this is the APDU that I send for Put Key command:
80D800814301811033173C8ECDA55BDF7E50625531BE4FC5038BAF47811033173C8ECDA55BDF7E50625531BE4FC5038BAF47811033173C8ECDA55BDF7E50625531BE4FC5038BAF47
but I recieve error 94 85 (invalid check value)
do I calculate my check value wrong?
does different versions of jcdk or different versions of globalplatform hav different ways for calculating check value and keys encrypted values?
I'll appreciate any help

Strange Key Commands Issue - Please Help
I understand how to make/delete and export key commands.
I made a key command preference that I like that doesn't involve the screen set key commands ... herein lies the issue.
I delete the commands (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) that are assigned to screen sets because I want to use them for other things. I save the preset. If I keep logic open everything is hunky dory, but if I close logic and re-open it the screen set key commands are suddenly part of my preset again.
I'm running Logic 8 btw.
I thought Logic might automatically be initializing it's key commands from their provided key commands list, but after removing them I found that was not the case.
I also tried deleting my com.apple.logic.pro.plist file but still the screen set key commands keep showing up.
Does anyone know a way to keep Logic from adding them back into the key commands everytime I start it up?

YESSSSSS.
thanks again for your help!
LOL, OK, you never mentioned the keypad... I just assumed you were after the top row number keys... but those on the numpad are indeed available (or set in limestone). Good persistance! And thanks for reporting your solution.

What keys to assign Key Commands to
Is there anyone out there that has really got a good system for assigning Key Commands to groups of keys? My KC system has developed sort of spasmodically as I have got to know the Logic over the years.. and without proper 'town planning' things are getting over crowded on my Apple Keyboard.
I would appreciate comments from anyone who has a 'logical' mind who thinks they have a good system/choice for which keys to programme groups of key commands for ease of workflow. In particular I would be interested in:
- Score Editor
- Midi writing
- Automation
along with a word about favourite key commands
thanks in advance
MSSuggest orienting as many of your key commands on the LH side of the keyboard so that you can keep your RH hand on the mouse.
The following is just a sampling of my k/c assignments; at this point I've been using these so long that I couldn't tell you if any of them resemble the factory k/c assignments, but anyway, here's a short list that don't use any modifier keys:
F1 = event editor (lists)
F2 = matrix/piano roll (within arrange)
F3 = score editor (arrange)
right below that...
1 = event editor (opens separate window)
2 = piano roll (sep. window)
3 = score editor (sep. window)
ESC = close window
Q = quantize
A = catch on/off
V = toolbox
D = MIDI out toggle (in editors)
C = cycle
H = hyperdraw autodefine
F = continue (need to press it 2x to play when Logic is stopped)
B = browser (media)
L = library
X = set locators to region and play
Note how except for "H" and "L" (a new addition for L8) they're all on the LH side of the keyboard, and no modifier keys needed.
Some RH-oriented key commands include:
\[ = set left locator w/o rounding
] = set right locator w/o rounding
Those plus SHIFT give me the same functions but with rounding
As for key commands with modifiers, you might want to set up a system for yourself where you reserve specific modifier keys (or combinations of modifiers) for certain categories of tasks. For example, you could reserve CNTRLSHIFTkey for score editor-specific commands, such as:
D = defeat interpretation
F = force interpretation
B = beam selected
U = unbeam selected
. = add staccato to selected notes
- = add tenuto to selected notes
< = crescendo
">" = diminuendo
( = slur below
) = slur above
# (actually, "3") = enharmonic shift #
@ (actually, "2") = enharmonic shift b
...and so on... Note that these aren't all LH oriented, but I like the idea of using character shapes ("<" = cresc.) as mneumonics where possible.
In general I'llI use CNTRLOPT+SHIFTCMD for "dangerous" (global) operations such as changing all tracks to READ or TOUCH. Speaking of automation...
I have F9 programmed to turn plug-in automation on/off. But toggling this without having the automation prefs visible means that you'll be toggling this function in the blind. So I have F10 programmed to open the automation prefs panel.
Ultimately I'd suggest that you set up your key commands so that they make sense to you.

Desktop vs laptop key commands.
I just recently picked up a 15" i5 MBP which is the first laptop I've ever used for audio.
Key commands for a full key board with numeric pad are so ingrained in my mind that I'm hesitant to "learn" variations for the laptop. Believe me, I'm not complaining about having to excute for few extra mouse pad clicks.
How are other folks juggling desktop vs laptop key strokes?
I suppose I could get a full size wireless keyboard (as the MBP USB ports are already spoken for).
Input appreciated.
Cheers.I played around with the key board preferences (US with numeric pad vs just plain US)
I once created a list of the differences between those two presets. Here it is. I realize it's tough to read on this web page, but that's because this forum won't let me use html table tags. But if you paste the text into a spreadsheet or word processor, it will instantly format as a table (because tabs are embedded) and be easily readable.
The first column is the US with numeric keypad, and the second column is the plain US. Any commands not on this list are the same in both presets.
Anyone confused by any of those symbols can find an illustrated guide here or here.

And although 1.0 release says OL6.5 and later I cannot find the OL7 pacakges on the public yum server. The only ones I can find are http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-openstack-ol6.repo which is clearly OL6. I tried them on OL7 and the install fails.

If you have an Oracle Openstack install running I'd love to hear how you did it and what you did to accomplish it.
Right now I'm running OL6.6 with a RDO icehouse packstack install and I'm running into problems mounting volumes.
Openstack will be awesome once I get it running
Thank you for any assistance.

Open Window Key Commands Disabled?
Since 7.1, command-1 no longer opens an arrange window, command-2 no longer opens an event list editor, a few others don't work either. The "windows" menu flickers, indicating that the command is doing something, and each selection in the "windows" menu shows that these are still the correct key commands. I tried restting the commands in the key commands window, no luck. Anyone else notice this?
Best...HI dont have Logic 9 but in L7 there was a fault in display of Key Commands. Often you had to mess about for ages to see the Key Commands, especially frustrating as before in Logic 6 etc it was really easy to see Key Commands
All this to say that at least L8 ( and presumably L9) is consistent in the following behaviour:
• When you open the Key Commands window, you cannot see any key commands. If you click on the triangles, nothing is displayed....
• You have to enter a known word in the Question box on the right hand side.. say "nudge" or "record" - (this fact of life crucial to the use of key commands is not mentioned in the Manual so far as I know - it is one of those idiot frustrating idiosyncrasies only know to Forum types .. and you can waste hours messing about puzzled as I did at first)
• the KC page then displays all those relevant Key Commands..and from then you can explore other Key Commands...
.....or - and this is crucial: you can type a letter( or combination of modifier + letter) from your keyboard and the display will jump to show which Key Commands that combination is associated with.. though surprise surprise - I just tried this and it doesnt work...
This decrease of functionality from L6 annoyed a lot of people, because in L7 the whole display of Key Commands became buggy... and inconsistent for many users. Then L8 it was put right with decreased functionality which is at least consistent and usable. But so far as I know, we have never returned to the simple usefulness of L 6 and previous of opening the Key Commands, tapping in a key and the display would immediately show what it was associated with.
To sum up: enter a known search term in the Question window on right hand side and TAB

Does any one know the hot key / command to hard delete from an external Drive
Does any one know the hot key / command to hard delete from an external Drive (i.e. delete direct without having to put in trash first)?
Nothing happens on a hard drive that doesn't involve the computer.
Here's a list of all the keyboard shortcuts. I don't see anything such as you have described, so perhaps you once used a keyboard macro or have not described what you mean properly. -
I found an old post about this, but it didn't seem to have a solution to the problem.
Some key commands I assign simply don't work. They even show up in the menus, but don't do anything (one example, I tried assigning shift-m for Create Marker without Rounding).
Also, when the key command window is open, typing some key commands jumps to the assigned command, but with others it doesn't (I can see one of the menus at the top flash, as if it's trying to actually do the command). One example of this is command-m which is assigned to open movie. (oddly, getting rid of open movie and changing command M to create marker without rounding worked, although it still didn't jump to it in the list)
If the function to show used key commands isn't working, how am I supposed to know what's free for additional key commands?
I'm using the standard US keyboard, standard key commands in tiger (which don't seem to overlap any of the ones I'm tweaking).
Any ideas on this? It's very frustrating and a big waste of time.It's also a pain that the key command window shows codes for the keys instead of what the keys actually are. <<</div>
Actually, there are 2 methods for simultaneously assigning/viewing the assignment; one shows you alphanumeric charaters and one shows the key codes. But it is true that some key assignments won't work unless they're assigned as key codes.
I agree -- it's time to either revamp this window (with all of the features you mentioned) or offer an explanation as to how it actually works so that people like us aren't left pulling our hair our because this window's functions don't always seems to work properly. Something like:
"Hi, this is the Apple/Logic guys. We realize that some users find the Key Commands window to be problematic. Well..."
and then it could go on in some of the following ways...
a) there are a few things that don't work properly, such as X/Y/Z... We're hoping to fix the problem in the next release of Logic..."
or
b) if you're trying to assign (whatever) to (a function) and it doesn't work, try this instead...
or
c) if you're trying to assign (whatever) to (a function) and it doesn't work, please know there's an issue with this particular aspect of the Key Commands window that will be fixed in a future release...
That's the kind of thing I think we'd all love to see.
Maybe that's enough venting for now. Wouldn't want to attract the attention of the "venting police" LOL
