Key/erase a harness wire

So, as soon as this posts I'll probably see five how-to's on the "Discussions like this" box, but here goes...
I've been using the chroma key effect successfully to get different backgrounds behind a subject, but now my daughter wants to add a "flying" effect.  I.e., we want to film her running in front of the green screen and jumping, and we have a harness/pully system to help her jump higher and faster than six year tolds tend to naturally.
Is there a name for the technique used to edit the harness wire/rope out of the clip, or could someone point me to a tutorial?  I've been searching online, but using terms like "fly" and "wire" I'm returning all sorts of diverse subjects.
Thanks again!
Usual

Try the Garbage Matte effect...this can be used to eliminate the "wires" and the keying to eliminate the background.

  • Backspace Key erases message

I've been having trouble with 2.0 software: when typing message with iPhone kybd, sometimes if I hit backspace a couple of times in a row, it goes nuts and starts backspacing automatically, erasing my message. Hitting another key stops it.
    Anybody else see this behavior?

Yes - I get this on my new iPhone 3G. Its happened a few times, so I thought I needed to be slower with the backspace keypresses, but even allowing over a seconds pause it still goes nuts an erases all the message (usually as I'm screaming at it!). It happened yesterday under 2.01 so if its a bug its not fixed.
The iPhone isn't running any smoother

  • Backspace key erases whole text typed!!

The key when pressed, is supposed to delete a single character, rather it gets locked(as if it is a real key in a keyboard) and erases the entire content.
I am not able to stop it from erasing !!
Does this sound familiar ? :O
Is this a BUG or a FEATURE ?

It's a bug. Occurs when delete is pressed after a combination of capital letters and periods (e.g. U.S.A). If you're quick enough, tapping any letter key stops it.

  • WPA key erased after every shutdown

    Hi
I have two wifi connections setup on my laptop:
CTO (for when I'm at uni, WPA-PSK)
frogs (for when I'm at home, WPA-PSK)
I do not have any problem with the connection "CTO", but I can't say the same with "frogs":
Every time I shutdown my PC and then turn it back on, I cannot connect to the network "frogs"!
I have noticed that every time, the WPA key of the network frogs is replaced by 0s.
I therefore need to put the original key back, and then it works fine...until the next shutdown.
I tried to lock the controls of the network connections, but on the next reboot, I find them unlock!
I tried to delete the connection and then create it again, but that did not solve the problem...
Any ideas on what I can do?
    Thanks

Or Internet Connect/Networks... wherever you made them in
    the 1st place?
yes, that's what I was talking about.
(ie: no save password box when creating the connection)
Have you tried the Menu Item... Repair Keychain or whatever
    it's called?
yes, I did a verification, which found an error:
    Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for Timothy Stubbs (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/Tim
    Checked login keychain
    Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain may cause the keychain to be locked
    Current values: lockOnSleep=no, autoLock=never
User differs on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, should be 501, owner is 0
    Checked default keychain
    Checked keychain search list
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked contents of /Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain
Problems were found; you should choose the Repair option to fix them
    Verification failed
I then did a repair which was successful.
After that, I tried to delete & re-create the connection hoping that the ownership of the file was causing the problem...but after a reboot, same problem
It asks for a password, but surprisingly, the admin
    password does not work...
I just checked, it actually ask for the "keychain password".
I don't remember setting that up...and if I did, I most likely put the same as my admin password.

  • Erased "E" Key on keyboard.

This may be a silly question but why would a keyboard letter key erase (i.e. the key itself no longer shows the letter and even the black seems to be fading)? The key itself is fine and functions but the E on it is melted, you can almost see right through the black to the other side of the key. I'm assuming it was something on my fingers but it didn't happen to any of the other keys.

In general (and I have tried with a number of keyboards over time) either it works out of the box, or you will be asked to identify the keyboard. The instructions are clear: press the key to the right of the left shift key. . . etc. The only problem with the external is usually finding the Command key as opposed to the key marked with the Windows symbol.
As to Rod's suggestions of remote access, if you can do this over a network (not sure if there is no one logged in), you would enter the password on the remote computer -- easier to pull the keyboard for a couple of minutes.

  • Key figure value in a level

Hi is it possible to identify which key figures values has introduce a user ? and which CVC has the user uses for inserting the key figure value?
    REgards.
PS :We have APO DP 5.0

    Javier,
It is possible to identify and track the inputs of specific users contribution to that Key figure using the following method, Provided you follow certain prerequisites first.
Its should be known before the certain people are responsible for certain data selections, like if there is a change in certain Sales org, we should ideally know who is the assinged planner to that Sales Org. or that sales org has been assinged to which Planner
Next, Develop to Lag reports in BI using the regular snapshots of the the data extracted out of DP before and after the changes have been made for that particular KF.
Compare the changes using the versions of snapshot before changes and after changes, or perhaps create another calucalted KF showing the different between two versions. The BI team should be able to create reports that enable you to run this report on all levels for that Key figure.

  • .INI files vs .TXT files for changing default values in a .EXE?

    Hi,
I have a two-part question related to updating the default values of controls in an executable:
I am creating a LabVIEW executable for installation on two different production-floor computers.   I need to be able to change the default values of the front panel controls (as I would do with the “make this value default” command during development). From reading prior posts, I understand that I could use the “Write Configuration Settings File.vi” and “Read Configuration Settings File.vi” to generate a .INI file that would be read by the .EXE and would establish the desired values of the controls. However when I took a look at the block diagrams for those configuration .VIs, they don’t appear (to me) to be any easier to use than just reading values from a spreadsheet file. IE: Instead of using these configuration files and a .INI file, could I not instead just read values from a .TXT file that contains the desired values?   I’ve never used a .INI file before, or had to worry about “keys” and “sections,” so from my (perhaps naïve) perspective, the .INI method seems less easy to use. Is there any advantage to the .INI format?
Regardless of whether I use the .INI file or a .TXT file, I have this additional problem: One of the things that changes when I install my .EXE file on a new computer is the COM port numbers used by two serial devices.   (On my development computer, the two serial devices use COM5 and COM6, whereas on the two production-flood computers, the COM ports will almost certainly be different).   I suppose I could use the Device Manager on the production-floor computers to change the COM ports to be the same as those on my development computer, but I’d prefer to be able to (again) change the default value of the COM ports in my .EXE.   However, I’m not sure how to do that.   The configuration VIs, have options for reading / writing Booleans, strings, paths, and numeric, but not, (so far as I can tell) for a VISA class.
Any thoughts / suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
    Solved!

    Thanks for your reply, Yamaeda,
Great that I can use a string to open a VISA session - I had no idea.  I'll try that.
And - ah - you are right about the .INI files.  I just did an experiment in which I re-ordered the sections and randomly changed which letters were capitalized in the key values, and the "read configuration settings.VI" still read the file correctly.  Thanks for that.
Unfortunately, in my existing code, the controls on the block-diagram aren't all co-located together; they are scattered throughout the block diagram - some of them in case structures and loops.   I suppose that means I'll have to move them all to the left side of the block diagram, route them to these "Write Key.VIs" and then wire them up into the cases and loops with fairly long wires.   It's just a hassle, and is going to make my block diagram more complicated.  Well, I suppose that's how one learns...
    Thanks again.

Assuming you have a state machine and an Init state it's a fair use of Local Variables to update controls from the ini-file. The same goes for saving the values.

  • How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc

    1a)  Here is very useful article from PCWorld.com. The article is entitled "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" and means just what it says. The article also has links to Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and legitimate Windows 7 ISOs from Digital River, a licensed distributor of Microsoft software. The article lists "Step 1" as;
"Find your Windows 7 product key: Typically this 25-character alphanumeric string is printed on a sticker affixed to your PC or on documentation included with your PC. Alternatively, you can use a keyfinder program such as Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to pull your product key from the Registry. You need your product key to reinstall Windows."
1b)  Using a key finder, however, is only useful if the Windows 7 product key was printed on a sticker (Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity) affixed to your PC, on documentation included with your PC, or sent via email by Microsoft. Assuming your computer came from one of the big brand computer manufacturers... HP, Sony, Dell, Gateway, etc... as most do, it uses a generic "mass activation" OEM SLP key. Trying to use this key by itself isn't going to work. This OEM SLP key needs to be mated with an OEM SLP certificate and an appropriate OEM BIOS with a proper SLIC table.
1c)  Here is where ABR Beta With Windows 7 Support comes to the rescue. Follow the "How to use it" section of ABR for Windows Vista for information and instructions on how to use ABR. The steps listed for Vista apply to Windows 7 as well. Perform the "activation backup" to "backup" and save the OEM SLP key and OEM SLP certificate. Save the entire ABR folder to an external location for later use. This will allow you to pre-activate your "clean" Windows 7 install on the computer you pulled the key and certificate from.
1d)  Now install Windows 7 from your new "Windows 7" disc or USB stick, following all prompts as needed. Don't enter a Windows 7 product key if request. Also, don't allow Windows to try to auto-activate. Once Windows is fully installed, run ABR "activation restore" to "restore" the previously backed up product key and certificate to the new Windows 7 install. Verify that Windows is activated, repeat "activation restore" if needed.
    2)  Here is another useful article, this time from SevenForums.com. This arcticle is entitled "Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7" and provides detailed steps required to backup your computer, audit current hardware and software, locate software and drivers, install and activate Windows 7, and create a Windows 7 Backup Image of your fresh install.
    Good luck.
Links to additional Windows 7 SP1 "Editions" and "Languages" can be found HERE and HERE.
Link to "ei.cfg Removal Utility". The "ei.cfg Removal Utility" is a simple tool that will remove the ei.cfg  from any Windows ISO disc image, thereby converting the image into a "universal disc" that will prompt the user to select an edition during setup instead of being forced to use different discs for different versions of Windows 7.

    ervis,
Before formatting the hard drive you should have been able to use the HP Recovery Manager to create your recovery discs or perform a system recovery. This is provided the recovery partition wasn't already corrupt or damaged. If the "D:" HP Recovery partition is missing or damaged and you don't have a set of HP Recovery Discs, you will need to use the information in my previous post to get your computer up and running again.
    The information in the document referred you to applies to several different "types" of installations;
Using ABRbeta is only needed if you have an active OEM factory SLP (system locked preactivated) installation of Windows. You use ABR to pull the factory key and certificate off the computer, to reuse it on the same computer with a clean Windows install.
If you are just installing Windows and are going to use the Windows 7 product key on the COA on the side of your computer, all you need to do is download the same version of Windows that your key is for and burn the ISO. Now install Windows answering or following all prompts as needed (except do not enter the Windows product at this time... it will be entered later). Once Windows has completely installed, enter the key and activate it. Your Windows 7 OA key should work on a SP1 install without issue.
The only thing I see that could mess things up, is the language of the install. If you are still having trouble activating Windows, please reference the ISO you download and a post a photo of your Windows COA
with the key erased or Xed out.

  • Creating an image of a GUI

    Hi!
Just had a quick question. Does anyone know how to create an image as a gif or jpeg of a GUI in a program. I want to capture the image to use in a Powerpoint presentation, but have now idea if it is possible to create an image of the graphic user interface.

be a creature of most fun. i really like your harness
screen capture idea and i think i might write one just
for fun.A creature of fun, yes, but also of practicality. Many years ago I did this type of harness for DOS programming under Turbo Pascal. It was a test suite. The tester would run through the program, and when they saw an error on the page they'd hit a hot key. The harness would come to life, snap the image on the screen, ask for information about the error (change/error, category of error, description, etc), and log it out to file. The file was then sent to the developer who could then use the complementary app to read the file and scroll through the issues/errors at leisure, or just print the entire report. Back the file would go again for the tester to sign off on.
now that i think about it.. indeed, it wouldn't be bad to recreate this for apps today. JUnit only does so much on the "I know this to be right" arena, and doesn't allow for human understanding of "what's right".

  • Finder Crashes All The Time - Mountain Lion.

    Helo there,
My iMac used to work just fine, but now after a year I got it, Finder crashes all the time. It doesn't show my folders, only some of them. I have to search to see them. When I open Finder, and try to work with it, I will get the loading colloured cirkel. Also Finder's sidebar doesn't show my favorites, airdrop or all my files. I can only see shared computers and extended drives and usb's. I've got two extended harddrives connected to my Mac, both of 1TB. One of them is my TimeMachine and the other is my old drive with movies. When I open the TimeMachine drive, I works just fine but when I open my older drive it will load very long and then show nothing. If I want to upload a picture on facebook or something like that, and I get the window to choose the file, it will lagg, stuck and not work, cause I can't see anything. I have to search it then with spotlight, and then select it. When Finder chrases and stuck with the spinning wheel, I restart Finder with second mouse option. Then I will have to wait very long until it opens again. The stuff on the desktop dissapears and I can't draw a selection area anymore. Also other programs crashing a lot more often, like disk utility and activity monitor. I thought it was immposible to work with a computer that crashes all the time. So what I did was:
Checking my harddisk with disk utility, and recover the things
    Still stuck with the problem
    Then
    Make a TimeMachine backup.
Reboot the iMac holding the option key
    Erase harddisk
    Reinstall Moutain Lion
    Reinstall backup
Repairing disk with disk utilities again
After this, I got the same issue and it drives me crazy. I've been to two local Apple resellers and told them my problem. They told me that it probably was a hardware issue. I have no idea my self so I ask you guys if you can help me out with this.
    By the way:
one time when I restarted Finder, it wouldn't open and I got error code 600.
Last software that I installed was Paragon, I thought that it was causing the problem, so I deleted but it dind't helped. Now I got Paragon again.
Is this a software or a hardware problem and how should I fix this?
    Thanks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Updating Calendar Event Information on Event I'm Invited To

Is it possible to update information on my own calendar for an event I accepted an invitation to?  I'd like to put notes and address in for myself.  For instance, the event said location SanDiego.  I'd like to add Courtyard Marriott and the address so that I have it and can get the map in Maverick. I currently have Maverick on Mac and IOS 7 on iPad 1 and iPhone 4S.
Seems silly to me that I can make that kind of change on my own calendar.  I'd have to enter the event twice this way, if I want specifics about the meeting added for my own travel and planning ease.
I have opened it. Tried to delete a location with a delete key, erase it, type over it... double click it... nothing works.
    Thanks.

  • E mac only starts up in safe boot

Having accidently pressed a few keys on the keyboard while not paying much attention to what was happening to my computer it just switched itself off!!! (I think it was the F15 button that was pressed!) Now it only starts in safe mode and I can't get many of the applications to work, internet connection to name one. How can i get it to start in normal mode again?
Can anyone shed some light on what I've stupidly done and how can I solve it please?
    Thanking you in anticipation
    e mac   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

    wim,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Do you mean the Mac always starts up in Safe Mode, without you pressing the shift key? You could try starting with the keyboard disconnected to see if it starts normally. If that's the case, check that the shift keys on your keyboard aren't stuck. You can jiggle the keys, or carefully pry them up and check for anything gumming the key post contact (keyboard keys pry off coming straight up and are replaced pressing straight down; on long keys such as the spacebar, shift keys, and Enter key, there's a wire spring that needs to be folded into the clips underneath).

  • How to impose a logo over video in FCPX?

Hey there. I am working on a video clip and I want to impose a logo over the video as it plays. The file is a jpg file. Someone told me to convert it to a png. I just dont know how to do this. transparent image?  I need some help here....step by step....lol

drag the picture over the clips in your timeline
resize it by using the Transformation settings, position it
=> you get a tiny rectangle with your logo
if your logo is NOT an rectangle, the graphic file has to contain alpha-info = transparency; jpg is a codec which doesn't transport alphas ...
    example:
on left, a logo, jpg, rectangle
open it in Preview, app (pre-installed on any Mac)
click on Selection, choose the Magic Wand for transparencies
click into the white 'background' and drag the mouse to in-/decrease threshold
    release mouse, background selected
hit the back key = erase selection
save new version as png, check alpha
dragging THIS png-version onto the clips in your timeline keeps the individual form, use the transform settings to make it smaller and positioning  it ...

  • Failing MB Drive? Please HELP!

I would very much appreciate any help that anyone can give on this issue.
Apparently, my MacBook2,1   Intel Core 2 Duo  2.16 GHz, 1GB memory, 149.05 GB drive, Black case  running: OS 10.6.8 is not able to recognize the internal drive. It went to “sleep” normally and froze when the user tried to wake it up. Flashing Grey Folder with Question Mark is visible.
I can hear and feel the internal drives seeking. Nothing I’ve Tried Works, which makes me think that the internal drive has failed.
    Have tried:
    • Unconditional reboot: CTRL-CMD-POWER
    • Forced Internal Drive Boot: Held down “D” key while starting to force internal hard drive to be the boot drive.
    • Zapped PRAM: CMD-OPT-P-R
    • Firewire target drive mode: Held T key down with Fire wire 400 connected to my MB Pro.
    • Cleared NV RAM: CMD-OPT-N-V
    • Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) by disconnecting,  removing battery and holding power button for 5 seconds.
    • Boot from CD: In order to boot from original Leopard CD: 1) Started with “C” key down  as well as by 2) pressing: CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DELETE. Also inserted the Snow Leopard CD. Nothing!
Choose Volume: As far as I know, I do not have a firmware password. Yet, when pressing Option key at startup a closed padlock appears instead of a volume to choose. Entering my computer password yields a grey screen and nothing more.
All of the above result in either a grey screen or the same flashing grey folder with a question mark.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I would like to avoid having to pay some Apple “genius” $100 to get the info off this drive.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks so much, frederic1943 for that case link. I suppose one should have one of those regardless.
I have not done any tinkering with the innards of a Mac for  quite a while. It is time! I don’t like the fact that the machines, given the cost—at least the mechanical parts— only last a max of 3-5 yrs. I’ve had a couple of drives go bad in the past and had a Mac “genius” tell me the computers—just out of warrantee—were “doorstops.” lol
Now that the SSD drives are out, I shall try to repair those old “doorstops.”  I love things that last “forever.”
