Key Figures and Aggregation options

Hi All,
There are three aggregation options:Minimum,Maximum,Sum on the Aggregation Tab when creating a Key Figure  on the Admin Work Bench. I understand that these aggregation rules are set for the Key figure BEx default settings. Does this affect at all how the data is loaded into the cube?
Another question. If I have a Key Figure that I have set to Maximum, and would like to change to Sum.. Do I need to unload the data in the cube and load it again?
Thanks.

Indeed: these are report relevant settings only.

I'm not sure about this one: Since it's a report-relevant setting only, i wonder there would be a reason why all the cubes where the KF is used should be empty...
(you can always change the setting directly in table RSDKYF, field AGGRGEN)

  • Cumulative key figure and non cumulative key figure

    Hi BW Expertz
Could any one give me the clarification about cumulative and non cumulative key figures .Why we go for cumulative key figure and non cumulative key figure. If any docs could u just mail to the following [email protected]
    Thanx In advance
    Best regards
    sankar prasad

Cumulative values are those key figures (KF) that are cumulated using all characteristics, thus also using time.
    Ex: Sales revenue, Quantity....
Non-cumulative values are those key figures that are measured in relation to a period in time; they cannot be meaningfully cumulated over time. Non-cumulative values are summarized over time using so called exception aggregation.
Ex: Number of employees, Inventory, Stock prices, Account balance,.....
    AGGREGATION TAB
Non cumulatives are evaluated by non-cummulative values. Non-cummulative values are special key figures that are different from other key figures (cummulative values) in data transfers and saving as well as in aggregational behaviour. These are measured in relation to a period in time; that is to say, they cannot be meaningfully cumulated over time. Non-cumulative value are summaraized over-time using exception aggregation.
Non-cumulative values such as 'number of employess' are cumulated using characteristics such as 'cost center'. It does not make any sense, however, to cumulate the number of employees using different periods. The result at the end of any particular period would be the sum total of number of employees for each posting during the period. This would of course be wrong.
Instead, the aggregation of the KF can be defined as exception aggregation wherein an additional references characteristics is utilized to tell BW which value to use during the period, in this case, 0CALMONTH is used, in the above example, to indicate that only the last value of 0HEADCOUNT, updated by costcenter, is to be taken for any calender year and month.
    Cummulative vs Non-Cumulatives
The purpose of non-cumulatives is to optimize the data transfer in BW, the data retention and the database access. The data transfer from OLTP to BW is minimized and only the meaningful data is saved and processed.
It is recommended that you use non-cumulative values for areas that dont change frequently such as warehouse stock or number of employees.
Non-cumulatives are modeled in BW using a non-cumulative value with the fields belonging to it for storing the non-cumulative or for inflows or outflows.
Non-cumulative values are stored with special KF that differ in terms of data transfers and aggregational behaviour.
Features of NON-Cumulative Values Transfering and Saving Data:
    - NC values are mapped uisng one KF for NC changes or two KF for inflows and outflows.
-NC are transferred in an initialization run and the change runs that follow (initialization can also be omitted here)
    - A non-cumulative value always has a time-related exception aggegation.

  • Definition of Non cumulative Key figure and web template

    Hi all,
Can anyone define a Non cumulative Key figure and a web template.
    Thanks in advance.

A non-cumulative is a non-aggregating key figure on the level of one or more objects that is always displayed in relation to time.Examples of non-cumulatives include headcount, account balance and material inventory. If the non-cumulatives change infrequently, you should choose non-cumulative management with non-cumulative key figures.

  • Selection Key Figures and Key Figures

I am building a query and I need to combine Key Figures and Selected Key Figures so that they appear on the same row.  However, when I try to do this I get a message that you cannot put the elements in the same structure.  However, if I put in different structures they will not be aligned.  How can I overcome? Thanks

if i undertd your issue correctly..u have one KF struxture and one characteristic structure. In characteristic structure,u r having restricted characteristics and u r tyring to have a KF in char structure???if so,it is not possible..where exactly u r getting error?it will not allow you to drag and drop Kefigure into Query deisgner except into KF structure..
in char structure,if u r gng with new selection,u will not have option to select any KFs.
it could be better if u provide an example rather than explaining theoritically.
please note that u cant have a KF in characteristic structure .u can have a char in KF strcucture with a KF combination i.e. Restricted KF.

  • Virtual Key figures and Chars

Can someone explain me what are virtual key figures and how to populate data for them.

    Kunal

    AHP,
Thanks for the help, one last question, i posted same on sdn week back, there was no proper response. I have standard LO datasource and enhanced with around 25 fields, the major problem is none of these fields are delta capable and they are coming from 13 diff tables, with great difficulty i could tie the relation between them. Most of the fields change and none them are picked,
is there anyway i can write a program for all this fields for delta enabling. The last option which iam left is to load the data every week as full load though data volume is less, which is not practiced.

  • What is diffrernce between key figures and characteristics?

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to SAP BI....i am doing Masters in ERP(SAP)....I have confusion about what is basic difference between key figures and characteristics?
Why do we have to define attributes in characteristics?
If any one can refer me a thread that answers my questions or explain with very lucid example I will highly appreciate it.....please answer this question as I have just spend 4-5 months studying BI and have not really implemented in the Industry but we do have access to SAP BI where we perform tutorials....
Also please let me know the links to materials where basics of BI are explained in a very simple way.....
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Rahul

KF is anything which can quantitatively measured: Amount, Number, Value, Price... whatever you want to measure is called Key Figure. This key figures are also called KPI (Key Performance Indicator). If you want to know the number of sales orders, the number of deliveries, the amount of deliveries... all are key figures
And to add to that, key figures are also divided into two:
Cumulative KF: Like I said, amount, value, price
Non-cumulative KF, this is different kind of key figures which shouldn't be summed up, for example: Age, Inventory, Number of Employees.  When  you measure this key figures, you don't add the age of every body, because that doesn't make any sense, but adding the sum of all deliveries, or adding all Sales does make sense, that is the difference between the two key figures.
Characteristics: are anything which couldn't be quantitatively measured: material, customer, plant, employee ID and so on...
Aways, in BI you measure the KF against the Key figures..
    thanks.

    Dear Mayank Gupta
    Thxs for ur reply
We are creating a EBIDTA Report which is already developed in R/3 and these result will be stored in Z table.
we have created a DSO which will store this Z table data.
Now the req is we have a created a field called ZVersion which is there in the Key fields of DSO. ok
But in report we want to use the condition TOP1 on the version. as the version is a not a key figure we cant create the Conditon on the characteristc.
If we use version as a key figure then the records are summurised in DSO as u have to insert it in Data Field.
we want to use version as a primary key.
so how to go abt it?

  • Restricted Key Figure and : Change Variable in WAD

    Hi everybody,
I have a restricted key figure in my query, which is restricting all sales volumes of a product by time variable.
I am using this restricted key figure instead of a real filter on the whole query because I have to view the total volume of this product and the volume in this year.
This works very well, but I have no possibility to change the value of the time variable in the restricted key figure in WAD by a generic navigation block.
    How can i do this?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi...
The Web item Generic Navigation Block displays the navigational state of a query view in the Web application in the form of a table. All characteristics and structures in the query view are listed in the table and their filter values are displayed. You can change the navigational status of the query view. You can filter according to single values and remove the filter again.
You want to see the results in tabular form and to be able to navigate
through those results using key figures and characteristics.
    1. From the Start menu, open the Web Application Designer and start the Web
    Application Wizard
    a) Choose Start → Programs → Business Explorer → Web Application
    Designer → Tools → Wizard.
Choose Next to skip the start page.
    2. Select the Generic Navigation Block item and accept the default settings for
    this item.
    a) In the Select Web Item dialog box, choose Standard Items → Generic
Navigation Block, then select Next to transfer the item into your Web
    template.
    3. Assign the query Customers/Sales  as a Data Provider
to the Generic Navigation Block web item. After assigning the Data Provider,
accept the default values for the item attributes.
    a) Choose Query.
    b) The Open Query / View dialog box appears.
From the Roles, select the query for Reporting→ Unit: BEx
Web Application Designer → Lesson: BEx Web Application Wizard →
    Exercise → Customers/Sales .
Choose OK. The dialog box closes and you return to the Web application
Wizard. Choose Next to reach the Edit Attributes dialog box. Since you
want to accept the default properties of the item, choose Next.
    c) In the Overview dialog box, you see all the items you have selected so far.
Add the Table Web item to your Web template and accept the suggested settings
    for this item.
    a) In the Overview dialog box, choose Add Item to add an additional item to
your Web template. In the Select Web Item dialog box, select Standard
    Item → Table.
Choose Next in order to transfer the item into your Web template.
    5. Assign the same Data Provider to this item as you did for the Navigation Block.
Accept all the default settings for this item. Arrange the Web template to have
the Generic Navigation Block before the Table.
    a) Both items in the Web template use the same Data Provider. Therefore, you
can use the same entries for this item. Choose Next.
    b) Leave the properties of the table item unchanged. Skip over the Edit
Attributes dialog box by choosing Next.
    c) Both Web items now appear in the Overview dialog box. Change the
sequence of the two web items so that the Web template starts with the
Generic Navigation Block. Use the up and down arrow icons to move your
    web items. Choose Next.
    6. Save the Web template.
    a) You do not have to make any entries in the Save Web Template dialog box.
Choose Save to save your Web template.
Save the newly-created Web template in your Favorites.
    give Description: ..................
    give Technical name: ...........
    7. Display the Web template in the browser.
    a) Choose Display theWeb template in theWeb browser .
    8. Exit the Web Application Wizard.
    a) Choose Exit. The Wizard window closes and the Web template is opened
in the Web Application Designer where you can make additional edits
    as required.

  • Diff between Calculated key figure and new formula 6extra functions why

    Hi Friends
In BEx query designer we have Restricted key figure & Calculated key figure. In the case of Ristricted Key figure And new selection the difference is Global and local.
But if we come to Calculated Key figure and New Formula the difference is same global and local. But in New formula we have 6 extra function. My question is does is there any certain reason for this or SAP AG not be able to develop those functions

  • Restricted & Calculated Key figures and Structures

    Hello Gurus,
I'm using a BW Query to create my universe and all I see is a class called Key Figures and few objects. I don't see my restricted and Calculated Key figures.
Also I want to understand how are the Structures in BW Query brought into Universe? All I see is a column class and row class with corresponding objects in it.
    Environment: BO XI 3.1
    Appreciate your help.

    Hi Ingo,
Sorry for getting back a little late on this issue. I've been trying to fix other issues. I'm creating my report out of BW Query and I'm not able to see all the Restricted Key Figures. Also when I try to create my report out of existing key figures and verify the data with BW analyzer the data seems to be different.
What happens is in my universe I've two classes naming Rows_xyz, Column_abc etc and there are like 25 objects in Rows_xyz when there are supposed to be like 60 key figures and in Column class I have a single object. When I pull in this coulmn obect and pull like 3-4 key figures (which I made sure have data from BW Query Analyzer) doesn't return any data. It doesn't even throw an error as No data to fetch.
I took the MDX Query that is generated by this report and ran it on the backend and see that there is no data even there. But from the BW Query Analyzer I can see data for this Column and the key figures that I pulled in the report.
    Thank you for your help

  • New Key figures and Macro updates

    Hi,
Is there a way to ensure that a change in the data view design  by adding additional key figures and changing the positions of the key figures/macros DOES NOT result in changes in Macros already present. This seems a little ridiculuous when i compare this to spreahseet functions, where only fixed references in the cells  are impacted by changes in rows and columns, adding columns and deleting rows etc, else the formulas/macros in excel adjust automatically. The Macros in my planning are adjusted and deactivated after inserting some more key figures and shuffling some up and down to organize the book for some new functionalities. Is there a report/technique to reset the macros so that they work as intended with proper references as defined.
    Regards,
    AS

    Hi
As Somnath says this is unfortunately the "normal" behaviour of the system. The macro workbench basically allocates a number to each key figure internally, so if new key figures are introduced, or even if you change the order of key figures in the data view, then this can affect the macro functionality.
As long as the new key figure is introduced and placed at the end of the list in the data view then this will not normally affect the macro, it just needs re-activating.
I find it frustrating when I have to re-order key figures in a data view then I have to check all macros are still working correctly and that the key figures used in the macro are the correct ones but unfortunately SAP will just say "as designed"!!

  • Sort the Key Figure and put a count on it

    Hi Experts,
I have a  situation where I have to sort the value of the Key Figures in ascending order and put a count on them.
Kindly elaborate me a little on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kannan

    Hi Kannan,
If you want to do this setting at the Query Designer level, then select the Properties section for the
desired Key figure say K1.then select the "Calculations " tab.  Under the Local calculations for "Calculate Results as" select "Counter for all detailed values".Save the query.
Open the query (say) at Bex Analyzer. From  the context menu for the key figure K1, select "Properties"-->then under Sorting tab select the required order.
The options mentioned above, i.e  "calculations" and "Sort" is available on web too in the context menu for the key figure.
The above mentioned setting wil be a display setting>You can modify it as per your requirement at Query Designer.
    NOTE:
If your requirement is such that K1, should always display the counter , then while creation of the K1 itself , you can select the Exception Aggregation of Type "Counter(all values)". Then, the setting will be permanent.(design time)
    Hope the information helps!

  • Calculated key figures before aggregation

    Hi,
I'm having trouble creating a new calculated key figure. Here's the situation.
I have two key figures: stock, value A. Now I want to create a new calculated key figure (in 3.x) using both key figures. The calculation would look something like: "stock * (value A == 0)". Now I want this key figure to work before aggregation. When creating this calculated key figure however I am unable to set the aggregation setting to before aggregation. Now, with any other key figure besides stock, this is no problem. Something like "profit * value A == 0)" works fine and I can set the aggregation setting to before aggregation. I suspect the reason I can't use stock in a calculated key figure set the calculate before aggregation is because of the exception aggregation of the stock key figure. It's set to last value in exception aggregation.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

The reason that somtimes the propertie is available or not depends on the key figure type - e.g. if it is complex or not. I think that here is a lot of info available in the forum.
