Key words in stock photos

I have some stock photo PhotoDisc CDs and am cataloging them in Lightroom. I know there are built-in key words on each photo (because the CDs come with Portfolio for searching key words in each photo) but the key words don't appear in Lightroom. Any ideas how to get them to appear?

In the Library module, open the Metadata and change the default to All. Scroll down the list and see if you can find the keywords in one of the other Metadata fields. If they are not there, then the keywords may reside in the Portfolio database. See if you can see them in Portfolio. As I recall there is a command in Portfolio that allows you to export the keywords in the Portfolio library to the individual files. Of course the files will need to be on a HD as you cannot write to the CDs.
Hope that helps,

  • Using Key Words to Find Photos

    I've figured out how to apply key words to photos in my iPhoto Library, and I know how to find photos by typing in a key word. But how do I search using multiple key words (e.g. woman + brunette) or by excluding key words (e.g. woman - brunette)?
    I assume the answer is in video tutorial "Finding Photos" at
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#iphoto-organize-4 but it won't play for me.
    Thanks.

    Go to the search field at the bottom of the iPhoto window, click on the Magnifying glass button and select keywords to bring up this window:
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Migrating from Extensis to AP 3 - key word challenge

    I bought AP 3.x and am migrating all of my photos from Extensis Portfolio. I am using the "referenced file" approach. I want AP to see all of the key words I added while my photos were managed by Extensis. To do this, I embedded my key words into the photo files within Extensis. Then I simply open up AP to see the difference. The problem is that AP seems to just process my updated photos in chunks or batches (300 or so files). When I minimize AP, then return to it, it processes another batch. This seems more manual than it should. Is there a setting I can make within AP so it processes all the files in one session?

    Sounds like Aperture is still Processing the install. Allan

  • I would like to know what application I should use for this specific job.  I have 6 photos in Iphoto, and I would like to print them out on one piece of paper with the title and key words showing.  Please help.

    My objective is to print photos on on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper (4 per page).  I want to include the photo title and the photo key words.
    I am not sure how to go about doing this.

    In iPhoto, create an album with the images you want to print.
    Once created, open the album and select all the images (type Command + A)
    Go to the menu View and make sure Titles and Keywords are checked.
    Go to the menu File > Print
    Choose Contact Sheet
    In the lower right corner press the customize button
    In the next window that opens, at the bottom of the window change the column slider to "2"
    You should be good to go. If OK, then press Print at the bottom right corner of the window.

  • Using stock photos in photoshop, resolution, size

    Hi. In PS CS4 on XP.
    I wanted to know what the deal is with stock photo sites.
    I have copied a stock photo before from the web, pasted it in Photoshop (which would place it in a new document) & it would be whatever the size the photo is at 72 dpi.
    I made a second blank document, letter size @300 dpi. I have dragged the stock photo onto the new document and it looks and prints clear (especially since I only needed the photo an inch by an inch)
    I guess my question is, do I really need to purchase the medium or high resolution photos @300 dpi if needing a small size? Especially if they are $300-400??
    What is wrong with the low resolution @72 dpi placed on a 300 dpi document (again, if needing a smaller size only).
    Now, I have another concern.
    I often will blow up images at 300dpi large (for trade show displays) and they are usually originally in the 6-8" range and are enlarged about 3x that size and do come out clear. I just was wondering I guess if you see a stock image thats for example these prices/sizes (below) can't you just get the medium one. Is there really a need to purchase the very high resolution images?:
      $ 325.00 USD
    Medium resolution300 dpi | 4.7 x 7.1 in | 1415 x 2123 px
      $ 425.00 USD
    High resolution300 dpi | 8.6 x 12.9 in | 2577 x 3867 px
      $ 475.00 USD
    Very high resolution300 dpi | 11.3 x 17 in | 3399 x 5100 px
    I just feel ripped off sometimes. That's part of why I use iStock, but they have the same options.
    Thank you. just wondering!
    (ps- not looking to steal web photos, but I often will use them as placeholders til deciding to buy)

    hi Stella,
    I work for a trade show display company and get asked about image resolution and "how much do I need" on a regular basis...
    The short answer is, it depends...
    You need as much as you need, and it depends on your standards, and what you want and are willing to accept.
    When pictures get blown up (especially for trade show display graphics), if the image resolution isn't high enough, they will look pixelated (that is, you will see the individual pixels and the image will look "chunky")... We see this a lot when people pull low-resolution images off the web. To explain the problem, we made a page with pictures that show what happens (sometimes a picture is much easier to understand than a lot of words). You can see it here: ( http://www.pinnacledisplays.com/image-resolution.htm )
    So you need your images to be high enough in image resolution so they won't pixelate.
    But if the image is something like a sunset, then you can get away with much lower resolution.
    But if it is a computer circuit board with fine detail, you need a LOT of resolution.
    It also depends if you are going to look at it from a distance, or if you want to be able to look at it up close.
    And it depends on if the photographer took a good (focused) picture in the first place!
    As for your comment on istock versus more traditional stock photography websites, we generally recommend people look at istock first since the images are much less expensive there. But you won't always find what you want, and you want to make sure the image is high quality, so it's also good to look at the traditional sites, if your budget permits.
    And if you really like the image and think you may use it for multiple things, it is better so spend the money for the highest resolution image rather than deciding you need it later and have to buy a second higher version image.
    Hope some of my rambling comment helps! Steve

  • Problems with the key word function

    Have recently acquired Lightroom.   I uploaded my photos into Lightroom and have pretty much key worded all of them. I have had something happen which I am not sure why and hope you all can enlighten me.  I did a search for Flower and my flower photos showed up along with a bunch of other photos. These other photos did not have the key word flower yet they appeared in the group. Any idea why?  Thanks in advance.
    Mike

    Thanks for responding.  I did try your suggestion and only those photos with flower appeared.  I just solved my problem though I don’t know why it happens.  When I selected text at the top of the window, I left the other fields alone.  This time I changed any searchable field to Keys words and that caused only the key worded photos to appear.  I till don’t understand why leaving “any searchable field” the way it is would cause this.  I could understand if all the photos then appeared but they don’t only a few.
    Anyway thanks for responding, I appreciate it.  I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

  • Importing key words and ratings from iphoto

    I have a bunch of folders from the last 5 years on an external Hard drive with ratings and key words from iphoto...I now want to consolidate them all into iphoto 6 because it claims it can handle 250,000 photos...so the problem is when I import them the key words and ratings dont come with it, which for thousands of photos is a nightmare..any solutions..
    thanks'

    James:
    What form are the files in? Are they just jpg files that you exported out of iPhoto to save as jpg files? Did you use the Share->Burn menu option that creates a CD with a mini library on it that can be viewed and imported back into iPhoto?
    Since they are in folders on the external HD and not in another library, they will not have keywords embedded in them. iPhoto does not embed keywords or any other metadata in the files. It keeps the keywords, ratings, etc. in database files for use within the library only.
    I'm afraid you're out of luck on that.
    Do you Twango?

  • Importing files with key words

    I run Lightroom on my laptop for field use.  When I get home I want to transfer the files to my desktop sys which is much more robust for graphics handling.  My problem is that if I assign keywords to the photos on my laptop I can't get them to transfer to my desktop system.  I'm obviously missing something.  Can anyone help?

    If you "Import from catalog", you'll import everything, including edit history, VCs and collections.
    Otherwise, you could select all on laptop, then hit Save, which will write metadata to the files, and you'll have your key words. If files are RAW format, you'll need to copy over the side cars (.xml) that are associated with the files after saving out metadata.

  • Key words not attaching

    I have recently exported my LR catalogue and images to a new computer.  No problems there.  BUT, my key words have not attached themselves to the images.  If I click on an image in a folder no keywords appear in the key word box, but, if I select all the images in the folder then all the key words for that folder appear in the key words box with asterisks beside each key word.  Now I do know that if I then selectively go through the folder I can retype and reattach each key word to its proper photo, BUT, I have over 100,000 images and this method may take half a lifetime.  I'm not going to live that long!!! Help please.

    Randy, when you open the Keyword Manager, are your keywords shown there?
    From the Window menu:
    Window > Keyword Manager  ⌘K
    That will tell you, if your photos have the keywords you assigned. Are all keywords listed, that should be there?
    Are the albums that are missing smart albums, based on keywords?
    Then try to recreate them using the command "File > New Smart Album" and select a rule "Keyword is ...."

  • Adobe Stock Photos Stuck in Trash and Photoshop CS2 won't run!

    Okay, I apparently did something stupid. I'm not even sure how this happened, but I realized that Adobe Stock Photos folder was sitting on my desktop (I'm using OS X 10.5.6). I don't know when this happened and I didn't think I needed it so I dragged it to the trash. NOW I cannot run any of my Adobe software (includes Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 and GoLive CS2).
    I can see the folder sitting in my trash, but it won't let me drag it back out. So, just as a test, I tried dragging out the one other file (.jpg) and I can't get that one either. I know this isn't a Mac forum, but I'm desparate and cannot find anything to help me.
    Probably I am going to have to reinstall everything and (of course) I can't find my CDs!!! Please don't get angry if I'm asking the wrong question. I've done an internet search and I cannot find any solutions.
    Thanks, Anne

    Adobe stock photos does not even exist anymore.
    Have you tried deleting your trash? I have no Adobe stock Photos on my computer and everything works. try restarting the computer.

  • Simple Bridge script will not read metadata and triggers Adobe Stock Photos

    I have been trying to learn to write scripts for bridge but can't get past the most basic tasks. When I run the script on an open window in bridge it throws an "Uncaught exception metadata" error. The most bizarre thing is it sometimes causes an Adobe Stock Photo script to launch in the extendscript toolkit and throw and the "Uncaught exception metadata" error in that script. My script is as follows:
    #target "bridge"
    if (BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge")
    var items = app.document.visibleThumbnails
    for (i=0; i< items.length; i++)
    item = items[i]
    md=item.metadata
    md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/";
    Window.alert(md.Title)
    Window.alert(i + " "+ " Files Finished")
    Basically I was asking to extract the title of each thumbnail from the metadata and show it in a window. I figured if I could do something as basic as that then I could move on and tackle the more complicated tasks that I need to do.
    Any ideas of what is going on? Has anyone else accidentally triggered Adobe Stock Photos?

    Another bit of info....   As I looked at this further, it seems to be occuring only on those photos where I previously ran camera raw from CS3. I've upgraded to CS5 but have not rerun camera raw since. I understand the camera raw engine in CS3 was different. Could this be involved? Could Lightroom be changing the metadata because the engine is updating the information and I have to save TO file to get this to synch?
    update about this camera raw engine possibilty..... it would not appear to be the answer. I have some files that synch even tho lightroom develop says they are using the 2003 process version. I have some files that are on the new version that won't synch.

  • SAP Mobile app Stock photo not work for network location

    Hi Experts
    I found if we use network location path (e.g.
    servername\pic folder\) in SAP Business One General Settings -> Path, Picture Folder, then if we logon SAP B1 Mobile app from iPad/iPhone, and try to open stock photo, we will get error:
    Processing Failed
    Internal server error: contact your system administrator
    It looks like it only work for local path, e.g C:\pic
    Even we put path as :
    local pc name\pic folder, it is also not work.
    Any idea about this?
    Thanks

    The first link is a temporary fix for a machine that only one or two people will use. This will not fix the Library Machines that some 3000 users can use at anytime. I can not pre-add all these users every time we image a machine. We also loan out laptops and I need these machine to wirelessly login dynamically to the domain. But I also need these machine to allow access if these machine are removed from our campus and the wireless access is not available.
    Thank again for the help and I hope someone at Apple can fix this soon. I going to have a hard time telling the client that thay can not use the OS that came with they're machine.

    When I first synced my iPhone 4S to my iTunes on my macbook pro, I got a bunch of stock photos and icons used on my computers. I cannot delete them on my iPhone like you would delete a normal photo; the option to delete the photos is disabled,
    The pictures take up a lot of space and I want to get rid of them.

    There are 488 of these photos and they are in an album called "last import- from my mac"

    Do you mean that you synced them from iTunes to your iPhone?  If so, you have to sync to iTunes again and change the selected synced photos.
