Key Words/Meta Tags etc.

It's been several years since I last created a website! I
have dusted off my Dreamweaver MX2004 & now created one on my
hard drive. Before publishing it I remember that, in the last one I
did, I inserted some keywords/meta tags, etc. I have remembered how
to do this in design mode: By going to HTML in the insert drop-down
menu & then to Head Tags. However, that then gives me 3
options: Meta; Keywords; & Description. Does anyone know what
should I be inserting in which category please?
Steve Jonas

Just do a description for each page. This is what
Google/others will show
you when your page is listed in the set of hits. The others
have no/limited
use.

  • Is there a way to identify the key words being used for SEO when I'm visiting a web site?

When I am on a web site, looking at a product for sale, is there an app or add on I can use to see what that site has for key words, meta tags etc? It would be helpful when adding products to my own site to see what works elsewhere.

Do search engines even look at those anymore? URL, title and page content are what's relevant.

In any case, you can look at the source code. Click the Firefox button, then Web Developer, then View Source. You can also press Ctrl+U.

  • Cannot create title tag, meta tags for iWeb site, per Google requirements.

I created simple website in iWeb to meet art show deadline
    www.barbaraturnertigrett.com
but when I tried to submit to search engines (via GoDaddy "Traffic Blazer" product), several issues or errors noted...no title tag, meta tags, keywords, too little text, etc. Was told by Apple, there is no fix at this time...no way to access to actual HTML code, to add title tag or meta tags, etc...since iWeb is merely a consumer, not professional enterprise, product. Researching further, I even tried to submit to Google directly, not via GoDaddy "Traffic Blazer", but could not "verify" my url site (because meta tag missing and/or could not upload entire html file, as required. I'd produced client websites in past on Adobe GoLive and was learning Dreamweaver, when someone alerted me to simplicity of iWeb. It is clean and simple, but wish I'd anticipated these other issues. Is there a solution to this with iWeb or should I finish learning Dreamweaver and start over? Thanks for any advice you can share.

Both these last postings were helpful. THANKS. I could not open home.html file with "text edit", but when using Taco HTML Edit, it would open...so I dusted off (novice) HTML skills and entered the appropriate title tag and meta tag, per Google's requirements. Then, went to my GoDaddy hosting control center and (I think) I uploaded new file with new tags. Seems to be major lag time with any changes, so not sure my site is now successfully "verified", on Google. Hope I did not mess anything up, in the process. There seems to be various lag times before any changes take effect (right??).
So now...I'm very glad to find out about iMap and will buy it and watch the tutorial video, as instructed...since I am unsure if last 'fix'...fixed the problem, etc...and always eager to learn more. This is my first Apple discussion post, and certainly impressed/grateful for expert help. THX again.

  • HTML tag checkers don't recognize my title tags, H1 tags, etc

    Hi,
I am trying to check my title tags, meta tags, etc to make sure they are recognized by google crawlers. Every HTML checker site I use says I am missing all the tags for title, keyword, H1, description etc
Yet when I view source on my site http://landscapingcalgary.org all the tags are visible. Is google seeing these tags ? why don't these free html checker sites see my tags ?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • How to tell web host no meta tags or search words please?

I am getting ready to upload files to my new site but want to make sure there will be no search words for this site other than the URL.   I use DW4.  Thanks.

Meta tags are placed in the HTML. Your webhost has nothing to do with the content that you place on their servers, other than making it available to the world.
Look in files you created with Dreamweaver and see if you added any meta information, it would look something like this:
    <meta name="typeOfMetaTagHere" content="The Actual meta info here">
If you don't see anything that starts with  <meta... then you don't have any meta information on the page.

  • How do I Change sub category to a key word tag in Elements 6. When I right click the sub category is the possibility to change not selectable

I want to change a sub category to a key word tag in Elements 6. When I right click the sub category is the possibility to change not selectable. How to do it?

If you want to change the category you need to change the feed, which means changing it in WordPress. You need to pick one category and, if there is one, one sub-category from the official list here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#categories
It is possible to have further categories, though I don't know whether WordPress will allow that, but you should put the most relevant one in first.
Once you've amended it simply re-upload the feed and wait for the Store to catch up. You don't need to resubmit.

  • PSE8 Organizer - Odd Key Word tag search result

Question by tagging example in Elements 8 Organizer.
I have 2 friends Bill and Sandra (key word tags) they belong to same subgroup "Friends".
Now, when I in PSE8 Organizer seach for Sandra e.g. by check the "Sandra" check box. Then a lot more pictures than only Sandra appear the results set. For me this make no sense at all.  BUT on the other hand, if I create a subcategory "Sandra" and tag the same pictuters with that, then I have no problem. Only Sandra  (as subcategory) tagged pictures will shows in the results set.
Many thanks for any clue or help.

    Hi,
Here are 2 screenshots showing the 2 scanarioos. Note. when Reacreated the issue made me understand the PSE query little better. But it still make no sense for me. Because I have never seen or heard of any query tool where clause inheríts upwards in a hirarchy.
In other words. A query maikng sence for me look somethin like this:
    - » SELECT all pictitures in 'abc'  WHERE tag = "X"   (with or without hirarchy daughter tags to "X")
As I interpret the PSE8 query result. The PSE8 query look something like this
    - » SELECT all pictitures in 'abc'  WHERE tag = "X"  AND include also all tag "X" sister tags AND also include an unpredictable set of tag "X" mother tags Her doughter tags.
For me this is a very strange logic of behavoir for an application and/or query tool.

  • Meta tags or descriptions

Are Meta tags or descriptions the best way for your website to get picked up by Google, Bing, & Yahoo?  Or do you have to pay them for better results?  Thanks!

Since some months I use "Dublin Core Metadata".
    Here the link: http://www.metatags.info/dublin_core_metadata_element_set
On the other hand – what concerns "Olde Worlde Lace's “that neither it nor this forum  say much about“ there was a very interesting thread here in the forum about SEO, which I remember.
    1) Fully understand your markup language.
    2) Work first BEFORE anything on CONTENT not on black hat "tricks" and or on white hat inbound links.
    3) Expand the content so that you become an authority on the subject of the keyword phrases you wish to appear well ranked for.
4a) Avoid the error of going all over the internet looking for the "ONE WAY TO SUCCESS" posts. There is NO such thing. Google does not rank all sites and blogs by the same values. Some are simply in the top ten for middle to complex keywords and keyword phrases because of their AGE and the AUTHORITY factor (that they contain original content with good outbound links WHILE OTHER BLOGS AND SITES are listed in the top ten ON REGIONAL search because of inbound links (example: You are better ranked on Google.FR if you have FRENCH blogs from FRENCH servers linking to you as well as being yourself hosted on a FRENCH dot fr domain or a in France hosted dot com). And there are certain pages which are ranked simply by the volume of search requests for that page. And then there are others which appear and remain in the top ten because they are rated by Google with what is called PageRank .... and on and on.
In other words before you end up getting depressed and giving in to purchasing Adwords (sponsored links) try the following:
4b) Set a routine. Make this routine involve an hour at least per day to UPDATING and EXPANDING your content. Use PDF files (learn how to optimize meta tags and onpage PDF alt text and Accessibility). Expand with images which have BEFORE YOU UPLOAD THEM been right clicked to add (on your computer) meta information to the image files. Make sure to name your image info TRUTHFULLY (Google can read the content of images) so do not call it PARIS HILTON and ME unless it is a photo of you and Paris. Use the "+" sign between keywords. Per example if indeed it is a picture of you with Paris Hilton in Saint Tropez in the summer of 2008 then you might wish to name the image: YourFullnameInOneword+ParisHilton+SaintTropez+France+2008.jpg - note that some image formats do not allow for meta tags. Also be aware that as soon as you start tagging your images these keywords will be READ BY THE ROBOTS as they crawl your markup - so DO NOT SPAM your image titles and have DIFFERENT image tittles. Also place your images in a 2 deep folder system on your server AND ALWAYS LINK TO THE IMAGE WITH THE FULL URI / URL.
4c) Next spend a few hours reading a good BOOK about SEO. There are several. The best I have found is by DAVID VINEY and called "Get to the Top on Google" (Published by Nicholas Brealey Publishing - London, Boston). This book will give you tips and techniques to get your site to the of the search engine rankings and stay there. Also read the archives of Vanessa Fox's Blog - www.ninebyblue.com/blog/ (HGD now > http://www.ninebyblue.com/blog/seo/).
    5) Set your objective to 3 keywords or keyword phrases per page.
    6) Start to NAME YOUR PAGES with your keywords and name your folders as well - but try to do this ALL in small letters with dashes between words.
    7) Install Google Webmaster Tools.
    8) Make and add a XML sitemap and update this on Google Webmaster Tools. (And get Google Analytics)
    9) Start to seek IN THE TEXT BODY PageRank 5 and higher "follow links"
(see here info about NOFOLLOW links on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nofollow).
    10) Take a break and start again - the key to success is WORK. Nothing else will give you lasting success as honest effort.
    11) ... and as Nancy O. said: only a short time ago: patience!

how / where to write meta tag and page descriptions on

i'm currently can't find where to write down my key words and
descriptions on the meta tag and page description place on
dreamwave . please advise step by step as i'm a beginner
    thanks in advance
you can e-mail me at : [email protected]

The code you show *already* has a keywords and description
    META tag in
place. So - what is your question? You would either modify
    the currently
existing ones or replace them with new ones. And the keywords
    meta is
pretty useless as has already been suggested.

  • Meta Tags in Dreamweaver

In websites, meta tags are meant to be used so that it helps
the search engines robots to position your website in the relevant
ranking of the website. But how do you use it. Are you meant to use
one word at a time, eg. damian, quinn then repeat it after a while
or do you just use it normally eg, damian quinn, website
    designer...etc?
If you want more explantory, then please by all means ask for
it. I'm not sure what I'm on about!!!

Be my guest. You'll not find keywords in meta tags on

  • Templates & Meta tags

    Hi there,
    DW 8.0.2
I use templates for the sites I work with. But, unfortunately
    the
meta-tags are locked in a non-editable region. Is there some
    way to
change this? I want the meta tags to have key words
    specifically to the
    page it is on.
    Any help will be welcome.
    Deon

Any template properly created by DMX or later will have two
    editable regions
in the head of the page - one for the title tag (doctitle),
    and another for
anything else you want to put there (head). You can place
    meta tags,
javascript, or embedded styles in that second editable region
    - so that each
page has unique content. Does yours have these regions? If
    not, then you
have not made your template properly.
Don't worry too much about meta tags. The keywords are no
    longer used by
    the major search engines.

  • How to add creater/author meta tag - DC.creator?

I've never heard of "metadata" before yesterday - I'm still kinda new to web-design. But I added a description + key words so far, and want to add my name as the "creator".
1st question - Will I have to add "meta data" to each individual page? Or does it apply to the entire site?
    2nd question - This site: http://webdesign.about.com/od/dreamweaverhowtos/ig/Meta-Tags-in-Dreamweaver/Part-6--Add-Yo ur-Own-Meta-Tags.htm
said I can add an author by going to insert > html > head tags > meta, then using DC.creator as the name, then my name for the value. But there's nowhere to type DC.creator, unless that goes under value, and my name goes under "content."
Anyway, this is what I ended up with - is this correct?
    <meta name="DC.creator" content="my name" value="my name" />
    thanks all!

thanks - but that's the same link i posted. lol
I was wondering where to type what - Does DC.creator go into the "value" box, and my name into the "content" box?
    It gives me : <meta name="DC.creator" content="my name" />
    I changed it to : <meta name="DC.creator" content="my name" value="my name" />

  • Spry Meta Tag

Is it possible to add Spry Data to Meta Tag Contents and key words ?
I am using HTML format for Spry Database and I like to add the titles and description of my books to be part of Meta tag as well to make it available for search Engines.
Kindly guide me how to do so.
    Thank you

Sure it would be possible, but its not wise to do so unless you are using Spry on a server side javascript environment.
Spry is a client side library that will execute it self once the page has been loaded. Because Spry is build in JavaScript it requires users to have JavaScript enabled to be run. Most search engines do not understand JavaScript, so they will have no clue what you are currently doing with your meta tags or description.
So yes, its possible to have Spry in your meta tags. But this will not make content available for search engines.
