KeyAgent and MacHAL didn't install when installing Vista x64

Hi All,
I have seen a couple of sketchy posts about this, but nothing that really explains what's going on here.
I tried a clean install of Vista x64 last night on BootCamp, and I loaded the new Mac Pro BootCamp drivers than are available for download on the web (they are supposed to support x64 now).
I got two errors... KeyAgent and MacHAL wouldn't install. As some people have mentioned, the installation said I didn't have the correct permissions.
Anyway, the installation proceeded when I selected 'ignore' to these errors... and on the face of it, all seems well with my Vista installation.
However, question is, what do KeyAgent and MacHAL do...?? Do I need them...?? Is there a way I can get them installed...?? Etc..
Many Thanks

Hi, Just hit the same problem with installing Vista Ultimate x64. KeyAgent & MacHAL failed to start, did the ignore and everything looked OK. Installed the Mac drivers, but no Bluetooth, Airport etc, plus the BootCamp control panel and system tray were missing.....
Removed the BootCamp partition completely and reinstalled this time with x32 version of Vista,
no problems at all, Mac drivers load and everything works. Hate having to corrupt my first Mac in 8 years, but need Windows for specific PC applications.
As a side note. I had to create a 50Gb partition, due to file sizes. Downloaded MacDrive7 from MediaFour, absolutely brilliant. Lets me see the Mac Partition and my Mac 750Gb Seagate backup from Windows. One small issue, when you load software that has both Mac & PC installs, if MacDrive is turned on you can't see the PC install. Workaround - disable MacDrive7, reboot, PC version installs OK and then reset MacDrive7.
Cheers

  • Upgraded to Mavericks and Epson scanner software was quarantined.Powered on the scanner, plugged in the USB, clicked Software Update, and clicked Update for the Epson printer software. Update occurred by I chose "not now" to a dialog and it didn't install

Hi, upgraded to Mavericks and Epson scanner software was quarantined. Powered on the scanner, plugged in the USB, clicked Software Update, and an Epson Printer Software Update appeared in the App Store Updatees area.  Clicked Update for the Epson printer software.  During the download, I was presented with a dialog asking me if I wanted the software to be automatically installed. I chose the "not now" option and as far as the App Store in concerned the software was installed, but it has not been.  Where did this go to and how can I force it to install?  Or is there some way to force the App Store to go through the download process again.  Many thanks!   Joseph

  • Documents stored as Firefox pages have been changed to Chrome HTML and I didn't install Chrome

NYT pages were stored as FF pages in Documents. Now the FF icon for all docs has been replaced with a Notepad Icon and the Group Heading of Firefox has been replaced by "Chrome HTML." I had downloaded Chrome but did NOT install it. Instead I deleted it.
Currently I must right click on the Chrome/Notepad icon and choose what program I want to open the document.
How do I get all the Chrome HTML docs back to FF?
    Thanks.

Sorry that this did not work for you. You can try this little piece of information.
Go to Tools and then Options.
    Switch to the Applications tab.
Look in this list and see if you see anything that says Google Chrome. If so, change it to Always Ask or Mozilla Firefox.
If that does not work, you can also try to right click on one of the icons that now have the notepad photo on it and then click on Properties. You should then see where it says Open With. Click the change button. This should bring up a list of applications. Find Mozilla Firefox and highlight it. At the bottom, check mark "Always use this program with this type of program"

  • Satellite L350 - Can't install Vista and how can I backup my data?

    Hi to all
I have a Satellite L350 and recently I've installed Vista Home Premium in a different language (the OEM Vista was in English) hoping I could activate it with the OEM key, but I didn't succeed.
When I wanted to re-install the OEM Vista from WinRE I realized I can't access it and then I had a "brilliant" idea that if format the C partition with the Acronis Disc Director it would boot from WinRE. It didn't.
Fortunately Ive burned the recovery discs before. The only problem is that the recovery disc formats the entire HDD and I have data on the second partition I've would like to retrieve.
I tried to install again the retail Vista to backup the data from the second partition (yes, I'm an idiot, I didn't do it before) but it stops after the first reboot. I get a black screen with a low dash blinking.
I really need that data, please help!

    Hi!
I can tell you why you cant install a retail version of Vista by using the product key. This is pretty easy because the key on the bottom side on the notebook belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and cant be used by a retail version.
However, I think the best way to backup your data would be that you put the HDD in an external HDD case and then you can backup your data on another PC or notebook.
Such external HDD cases are not expensive but very useful.
    Bye

i have vista x64 installed.  You are going to have to be more descriptive and clear.
Mike moved your post and gave it a topic; he didn't offer any advise on your issue.
4 GBs of RAM means you have added more memory.  Are you sure this memory is compatible?  Have you tested the stability of the upgrades with Memtest86+?  Does it work without the extra memory?

  • P6N diamond - Vista x64 install problem

    Hey.
I’m the happy owner of a MSI P6N Diamond, but I have some problems when I try to install Vista.
My system as it is now:
    CPU: E6600
    GFX: 7900GT
    RAM: 2x1gb Cell Shock PC6400
Running XP SP2 without problems on 2x36gb raptors in RAID0
Yesterday I decided to try Vista x64, because I have 2gb extra ram that I want to use. So I took one of my old IBM PATA 120gb HDDs, and tried to install vista x64, but then I ran into a problem. When I get to the point where it says "Completing Installation" and "Your Computer will restart several times during installation" It restarts but then nothing happens. The screen just went black (and the monitor is switching off), and I can hear the computer is still running (and there is still light in mouse and keyboard). If I try to restart, the the vista loading bar appears and then the same thing happens. Black screen and then nothing.
    What to do?
I have tried disconnecting all my other drives and I have tried with only one memory block (1gb)
    Hope somebody can help me
    /Christian

    Inside,
I had similar issues when I first installed Vista and I don't think it installed correctly as it is...
One thing I noticed was that the Memory in particular is undervolted with this board if the bios is set to auto. Make sure you manually set the voltage to your RAM manufacturers voltage. Do the same thing with the timings and speed...
I had everything set to auto at first and I couldn't even get Vista to unpack 100% until I manually set things...
I need to reinstall windows I think because my installation is still messed up as I didn't change the timings until I started getting BSOD on first boot... Try it let us know if it works.

  • Trying to install vista 64 on a separate internal drive with boot camp

    running into a wall here,
I'm able to install vista x64 when I divide an internal OS X drive that works fine, but I want to load Vista on it's own entire internal disk (bay 4). Bays 1,2, and 3 I use for OS X they are all 1TB drives. When I go through the boot camp assistant and divide a disk 50/50 between OSX and Windows and then boot to the vista install disk, the vista setup screen shows a PARTITION as "disk x partition x BOOT CAMP" and it works to select that partition, format and load windows... No problem. However when you choose the option in Boot Camp to erase an entire extra disk (in my case bay 4) and create a single partition for Windows and then boot to the Vista install disk the disk that was erased of the mac formatting, it doesn't show up with "BOOT CAMP" in the name inside the Vista setup screen, nor will it let you install vista to it, even if you pick the right one and format it inside Vista setup.
I've tried removing all internal disks except the one I want to load vista on and booting directly to the vista set up disc, and formatting with windows command line diskpart inside setup too, unsuccessfully. It simply keeps giving me messages that windows cannot be installed on the volume... I changed it from a GPU type disc using the "clean" command in diskpart but it still won't work! Man!!!
How can I get vista loaded on a separate disk on my mac, boot camp or not? It seems silly that a disk must have an OS X partiton on it before windows will load on it... Is there a way to load Vista x64 on it's own dedicated internal disk? Gratitude for any real help, I'm positive I'm not the first guy to want to load vista on it's own disk LOL!

So I figured this out myself, there was some kind of glitch in boot camp, i bypassed it and formatted the disk with the os x disk utility as a fat 32. pulled all the other drives out, and booted to vista setup. it formatted the disk to NTFS and lets me install vista 64 yahhhooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • X58 Pro will not install Vista/7

    Specs:
    Mobo: MSI X58 Pro MS-7522
    CPU: Core i7 920
    RAM: Corsair TR3X3G1333C9 Triple-Channel DDR3 1.5v 9-9-9-24
    PSU: Thermaltake PurePower 500W +12V-14A and +12V-15A
    OS Installed: Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Primary HDD: Seagate 750GB 7200 RPM
    Secondary HDD: Seagate 200GB 7200RPM
History: Original BIOS always gave me a delayed POST issue. Fan spins at full speed for 15 seconds before POST'ing. If running for 15+ hours, a restart will cause the fan to just spin at full speed and NEVER POST unless I turn the computer off, reset the mobo, wait about 20 minutes and then boot it and it will do the 15 second thing. I just got used to this and dealt with it.
Finally I updated the BIOS to 8.6 when it was the current version and that delayed POST problem was history! Then other things happened. "Host process sevice" would stop working and force a 1minute scheduled shutdown that I would have to terminate by typing 'shutdown /a' in the shell.
Recent events made me decide it was time to just wipe it and move on to Windows 7. I already have it on laptop (i'm on right now), so I'm using the same disc to put it on this desktop. I have tried a Retail Vista disc and this Retail Win7 disc and both of them yield the same result: I boot to CD, it loads the prep files and just when you think the installation program is going to begin, the monitor goes to standby and the computer just runs doing nothing. It simply keeps running without anything happening.
I went back into windows and wiped my alternate HDD and decided to try just installing the new OS to this alternate disc. I wiped it in Disk Management, turned off the computer, disconnected the primary HDD so that only the one I wish to interact with is available. Same result, install hangs just after prep
Assuming the only thing that's now possibly affectin gthis is either the BIOS or the RAM. I flashed the BIOS with the newest version, 8.8. Same result, I flashed again with 8.7; same result. I decided maybe I need to go back to what I had when I installed it the first time, so I flashed it with 8.1 which is just a tiny bit more recent. Guess what, the delayed POST with the full-speed fan issue came right back, but the install gave me same result. I'm usually pretty good about things like this, but I really can't figure out where to go from here> Someone please give me a little insight, I really appreciate it.

My Video card is an ATI Radeon X1900XT PCI-E card that I've never had issues with in the past.
    I am running the 64-bit Win7 disc right now....fingers crossed....(only 1stick of RAM currently installed)......fail :(
    EDIT:: OH MY GOODNES!!!!!!!!
Okay, so thank you for mentioning the video card because I would have continuted pulling my hair out. The fix? drumroll please.......The prep showed in one monitor but when the program actually got to the "install now" page it was sending it to the 2nd monitor which I only turn on when I'm doing web work.
Removed 2nd monitor from equation, rebooted and the install is running. Wow I feel so dumb right now.

  • How to install Vista off Recovery disk without setting partitions?

    Hi,
I have my recovery disk and I installed a new 320gb HHD.
When I installed the recovery disk, it re done the partitions 160gb in each (2 partitions plus 1 recovery partition)...
But I want to dual boot with XP pro due to software issues and I prefer it sometimes...
    I have redone my partitions, 1st- 51gb for XP pro(32bit), 2nd- 51gb for vista(32gb) and the 3rd- 210gb is for storage
How do I install with Toshiba vista O/S and stuff that comes with it on the recovery disk, just on to the 2nd partition without touching how I have set the hard drive up....
I already have about 100gb of pics, music and cam vids on the storage, with nowhere to put them so I cant risk them as some are only copies (so it might be a good idea to let me know how do I back up whats on my storage partition to DVD's please)
If I cant, then can some1 please tell me how I get my OEM Toshiba vista off this recovery disk or link one to me?
Hope all this makes sense lol... thanks
    Shane

If you have so many important material best back up is to buy external HDD and copy all this stuff there. I recommend you to buy small 2,5 external HDD and when necessary you can take it with you and connect to any computer if you want to show or copy this file. External HDDs can be connected to other computers with delivered USB cable.
    Back to your partitions.
When you use original Toshiba recovery installations DVD you will have 3 partitions.
-WinRE partition and it belongs to Vista OS. This partition is not visible and this is not a kind of Toshiba recovery partition
    -partition C for Vista
-partition D/or/E for DATA. On this partition is saved recovery image in folder called HDDRecovery
I don't know which notebook model do you have but this configuration is on all new Toshiba notebooks delivered WITHOUT recovery media.
Using Toshiba recovery media you will be able to get exact mentioned partitions structure. Using recovery installations media you WILL NOT be able to install Vista on second partition.
So if you want to have dual boot with WXP you can do follow:
-At first you will install Vista with recovery media and on second partition you will install your WXP version
-At first you will install WXP and then you can install Vista on second partition but you must use Microsoft installations disc. Recovery media cannot be used.
That's all I can say from my experience with this stuff.

  • Help Please: Big Bang-XPower: hard drive not found while installing Windows7 x64

I bought an MSI Big Bang-XPower MB and was trying to install windows7 x64. I have a WD raptor 150GB and Samsung 1TB hard drives. Both drives show up in BIOS. SATA controller setting is in IDE.
after I clicked at the "install" icon, a window showed up telling me that no hard drive was found. I have seen this problem before with my old MB. All I needed to do with that MB was to load a driver for the hard drive and problem solved. Does anyone know which driver (name and version, please) is the right one for this MB? I went to the MSI driver page and there are several of them. and some of them give me about 50 drives to choose from (I tried about 10 of them but neither worked).
Also, is IDE or AHCI more appropriate for this MB with Windows7?
    Thanks for any help.

i downloaded and unzipped the file to a USB drive. it instructed me to press F6 to load the driver, but i couldn't find this screen while I was installing windows7. at about what step does this normally show up. i can see this if i were installing xp or vista.
anyway, when i click at the load driver with the IDE setting, nothing was found. There was a driver when i changed sata setting to ACHI, but the computer told me that was not a valid driver.
does the drive package have to be loaded in a floppy disc?
anyway, called tech support and was told that the xpower was one of their newest MB. and the tech rep told me that he had never heard of this problem before. he had no idea what he was talking about. Fail! lol
