Keyboard and Cursor don´t work

Hi, my MacBook Pro has some problems after installing Leopard. the cursor is reacting quite slowly (like the keyboard). Sometimes it takes almost one minute until the cursor is moving. Will 10.5.1 solve the problem?

No!
You have some issue that must be resolved before doing anything else with your computer.
Do you know if SpotLIght has finished indexing your drive(s)?
What does your console show for system activity?
Have you used DU to check the disk and file permissions?
Have you reset the PRAM and NVRAM?
There are many things you have to check to solve your problem, but 10.5.1 will most likely make the situation worse.
What you are experiencing is not typical of a Leopard installation and not one of the minor issues that 10.5.1 addresses.
You need to supply us with more information about your problems.

  • Keyboard and Mouse don't work after upgrade

Hi, about one week ago, i've made a system wide upgrade and after reboot my keyboard and mouse stopped working. My hard disk is encrypted and without keyboard i remain at the prompt which asks my password to unlock the encrypted partitions. So i don't even arrive to login manager. I tried all the solutions i could find but none of them worked for me.  I saw similar posts on the forum and i'm sorry if i'm posting it in wrong place.
Here is my  Xorg.0.log file, it seems like because of hotplugging, xorg disables mouse and keyboard but i couldn't disable hotplugging with the given methods like adding flag to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
    I 've installed/deleted xf86-input-keyboard/mouse and reinstalled xf86-input-evdev etc and it didn't work.
I tried to downgrade to different versions of kernel, i didn't work.
    There are "00-keyboard.conf"   "10-evdev.conf"      "10-quirks.conf"     "50-synaptics.conf"    files under  /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
So i don't know what to do else, i hope someone can help me.

Post the module names that that finds here.  Also, look in your initrd for modules for the LPC bus driver.  It does not exist in mine.

But, my keyboard and touchpad don't exist in the ISA bus address space.  Things that used to live on the 1980's vintage ISA bus (like serial UARTS and ancient keyboard controllers) are now serviced by the serial LPC bus.  I think you don't have that driver available in the initrd preboot environment
Sorry, i'm not good at these things, so which driver i should install if it's the case? (By the way, i added  atkbd to the MODULES= and "earlymodules=atkbd modules-load=atkbd" to the kernel parameters, but i didn't make any change.)

Note that you shouldn't do this as a permanent solution, but just to get through the bootloader issue for now, manually edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg and change the relevant lines to point to the LTS kernel (in other words, grub-mkconfig should NOT fail, but that's not your biggest problem right now). This way the entry that pointed to the common kernel should now point to the LTS one.
You can find the LTS kernel files in /boot; the names should give them away. Remember to change both the kernel and initrd lines in grub.cfg.
In fact, i also have done as you told(by changing lines to the lts) and read about the error that grub-mkconfig gives me. It says it's ok, error is not important it should work properly. So i have some problem with my bootloader. I can't see the boot option anyway. Problem must be about UEFI because i remember that i had booting problems also when i first installed arch to my computer. I see all lts and lts.img files under /boot directory but somehow don't see as boot option.
Anyway, thanks a lot for all your help, maybe i do something wrong, i can't solve the problen. I'm going to reinstall my system, because i don't have time anymore. I hope at least this post would be useful for somebody else.

  • Keyboard and mouse don't work at all in 1 on 2 times!

When my computer has already been started up once and I start it up again, then the PS2 keyboard and mouse will not work, but only 1 on 2 times precisely! So one time the keyboard and mouse are working, the other time keyboard and mouse are not working. The rest works fine. Quite mysterious isn't it? Who has a solution to this?
If the power has been totally off and I put it back on again, then keyboard and mouse work properly.
I have looked into the BIOS, Integrated Peripherals for something like PS/2, I couldn't find it, I have put out several things in the BIOS, but it didn't work.
Now follows a list of everything I see when I am into the BIOS with the standard settings for integrated peripherals.
Could it help to put items on and off here?

Have you tried using a usb keyboard/mouse?
I don't use any usb, only use PS2. Maybe it is possible to use some sort of a PS2 to usb converter, but I would rather like the PS2 to work.

  • I restarted Windows 8, but now my keyboard and touchpad don't work!

I have an HP Envy M6-1184ca laptop that I got about 4 weeks ago. It's running Windows 8 64-bit. Today, I downloaded and installed VirtualBox and it disabled my wireless adapter for the installation. So, when it was done, I tried to re-enable it, but it wouldn't enable, so I went to reboot. I saw that there were updates available so I chose update and restart. It updated and restarted.
But, when it showed the lock screen, my cursor wasn't there. I tried moving my finger on the touchpad. It didn't work. Clicking did nothing. Typing and pressing keys did nothing, except for the keyboard light key and the brightness controls. I can still log in however since I've got a fingerprint reader. But after it logs me in, everything on the keyboard stops working, even the screen brightness controls and the keyboard light button! I get no error messages whatsoever.
I've tried several hard reboots and nothing fixed it. I'm out of ideas. I don't want to re-install Windows because I have files that can never be recovered, ever. They'd be lost for good. And I haven't backed them up! Please help me!

    Hi,
You should still be able to connect a usb keyboard and mouse to use as a workaround in Windows.  You should strongly consider running Windows system restore and choosing a restore point before 02/03/2013. That should take care of the majority of the issues.
Afterwards do not run the Windows update in automatic mode. Find out which update that it wants to install and do a Google search for issues with it. You can not have been alone in having this happen.
Reinstall the HP Quick Launch software and the HP Software framework.
If you have Windows 8 Pro as your operating system, then you can use Hyper-V instead of VirtualBox.   VirtualBox may have been the root cause.

    Best regards,

  • Thinkpad Yoga 13 keyboard and mousepad don't work

    Hello people!
Last time I went  to US, I've bought this machine from Amazon: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Signature Edition - 12.5" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Notebook PC - Intel i5 Haswell / 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD / WiFi / Webcam / Windows 8.1 - Black
I love it! At least until two weeks ago... after a windows/lenovo update things starts to be really hard.
My keyboard and mousepad simple don't work anymore, totally unresponsive. If I hit "del" to access the bios, the keyboard does work, after that, when windows is loading and fully loaded, I've got only the "tablet" mode.
The only thing that works correctly is the touchscreen, as it only recognize itself as a tablet, not as a ultrabook. The screen also rotates automatacly when windows is fully loaded, so I have to use the tent mode with an external usb keyboard/mouse or type in the screen keyboard...
I leave in Brazil, got in contact with lenovo suport team here, after a lot of procedures, that didn't solve the problem, they told me to get in contact with lenovo US and ask for an original dvd recovery.
Is there anyone with a different approach to solve this problem?

First try SMC and PRAM resets:
    support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free diagnosis.
    Ciao.

  • Keyboard and mouse don't work. (mighty mouse, wired)

I've been using my new intel iMac for a couple of months now with no problems at all, but last night I installed Security Update 2006-007 and then restarted my computer. Now, the keyboard and mouse just refuse to work. The mouse pointer stays in the right-hand corner and the caps-lock key on the keyboard won't light up. I tried unplugging them and plugging them back in again... nothing. I haven't got another usb keyboard or mouse so I tried booting the install CD, and everything worked fine then, so I'm guessing the update did something to Mac OS X that it didn't agree with?
Anyone know how I could possibly fix this? Thanks in advance :]

Try starting in Safe Boot mode - it does take a lot longer to start so be patient

  • Macbook pro keyboard and pad don't work after installing drivers.  Help!

I just installed windows XP SP2 on a macbook pro 2.66 i7 running 10.6.4. I installed the boot camp drivers and everything from my OSX install disk and now neither keyboard, trackpad, nor usb mouse work. Not sure what to do other than delete the partition and start over. Any help is much appreciated!

I have the exact same problem with the same two operating systems and the same exact computer. Needless to say, I would also love to get an answer to this question.

  • [SOLVED] Poweroff, suspend and hibernate don't work

I installed Archlinux on my work desktop on Monday and can't get poweroff, suspend and hibernate to work. The command `systemctl poweroff` sort of works, except it doesn't actually turn off the computer. Suspend and hibernate don't work at all, the computer hangs on the terminal with a cursor on the top left corner of the screen. Here is the log from `journalctl`. There doesn't seem to be any error messages in it, as far as I can see.

Thank you for your replies. Shutdown now doesn't turn the computer off either. About the type of system, I think it was custom built. This is a new install from Monday, so I didn't update the kernel. Poweroff, suspend and hibernate have never worked. The requested output:

  • Wireless keyboard function keys don't work even though updated

    Hi,
like i read in different threads, many others had this problem too.
The function keys of my bluetooth keyboard (aluminium 2009) don't work even though i did firmware update for mighty mouse AND the keyboard firmware update. I also unset the option 'use function keys with fn......' option in system preferences. I also tried disconnecting and connecting the device. In system profiler the entry says it is (still) firmware version 80.
    What can i do?
    I'm thankful for any hint.
    Best, Jörg

wrote this in another thread, but it is relevant here, too.
Wanting to buy a keyboard and reading this thread (and others), I went to a local Best Buy. They had quite a few of the wireless keyboards out. They had MC184LL(A) models and (B) models.
ALL of the (A) models worked perfectly with the iPad (typing, brightness, volume, ipod functions, etc).
NONE of the (B) models worked other than basic typing.
They had a stack of maybe 50 new wireless keyboards on the shelf. All but two of them were (B) models.
I bought one of the two (A) models. It is working perfectly on my iPad.

  • I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function works

I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem.  I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time.  I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Still getting software freezes but found a way to mitigate for the mean time.
Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
    Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.
Hope this helps until the bug is fixed.

  • Non-responding keyboard and cursor, macbook pro 10.4.7

    Hi,
My macbook pro has completely stopped detecting my keyboard and cursor [I am not referring to a usb keyboard, I'm talking about the original typing keyboard], otherwise, it's the keyboard that's malfunctioning. I plugged in a usb mouse and the cursor worked fine, so I suspect that the issue originates from the keyboard itself or some kind of disconnection. Has anyone encountered such issues before? I've attempted to install an apple keyboard update, but the computer refused it because the system did not need the update. I'm completely lost...please...help...thank you so much in advance!!!!!!!!

this is the wrong place to be asking. please post here...

  • Keyboard and mouse won't work

Help!  they keyboard and mouse have stopped working on my iMac.  I had adjusted the universal access features for my mother who is legally blind to try the Voice Over features on my iMac and I thought that I hadn't reset something correctly when the keyboard would not let me type an e-mail this morning.  Now, not only does the keyboard not work, but the mouse is not responding.  I have a Pages document open and am unable to type or click anything in it, the pages menu, or anything on the desktop.  when I move the cursor over the menu options or across the desktop icons on the bottom of the screen, where I should be getting an arrow to select the items I get the bar cursor like you get when you are typing something.  What did I do and how do I fix it!

By the way, the keyboard and mouse do not show up in the system preferences either. And this is a 1.83GhZ dual core, white Macbook if it makes a difference.

  • Keyboard and Trackpad just stopped working completely

Hi, I'm on a MBP 2.4 GHz running 10.4.11. Beginning yesterday my keyboard and mouse completely stopped working. This happened twice. The first time I got them working again with a hard shut down, the second time I got them working by closing the screen, putting the computer in standby. When I opened the thing back up, everythign was working.
Today, though, when the keyboard and trackpad quit, I've been unable to get them working again.
My problem is similar to the ones experienced here by MBP 2.4 and MB Air owners:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7194888
With the difference being that I'm on Tiger, not Leopard and I can't get the key or pad to respond at all. The solutions offered at that thread don't work for me.
I've plugged in an external keyboard and mouse and those work fine.
Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Related to the keyboard and mouse or trackpad not working, I've found of late that the whole lot freeze up and that wretched spinning timer takes over ad infinitum. Only way out is to hold pwr button the customary 6-8 seconds, then re-start with pwr/option.
Problem could be related to (Apple) upgrades as it's after a new one that this problem creeps in.
Makes me want to either revert to Factory settings or, Heaven forbid, give this MacBook Pro the float test and go back to Microsoft or even dig out the old steam typewriter.
The latter may be the best option - my life has definitely NOT improved since I invested in this heap of junk and the almost daily offerings of wonderful software by Apple are now set up for Spam, they're such a waste of time...
    So, that's my Sunday moan.
If I leave this thing alone while I make a cup of tea I'll find it frozen again by the time I come back - any help on this from anyone??? (Steam being a bit pricey these days)

  • Keyboard and trackpad are not working, Keyboard and trackpad are not working

I'm using MBP 15" late 2008 with Maverick OS. A couple of days ago, the internal keyboard and trackpad are not working at all. I did all the troubleshooting. I even reformat it; installing the snow leopard and re-installing the maverick but no good result. I believe there's no problem with my keyboard because i can still do PRAM on my lappy. Everytime i'm booting up my MBP, it always looking for bluetooth trackpad and keyboard. I have not used those bluetooth peripherals from day 1 i've started using MBP. I just read on the internet about the same problem has happened on MBP 13" retina and APPLE fixed it by updating the software. I wish Apple will also do something for the old MBP to fix the intermal keyboard and trackpad problem.
