Keyboard and Mouse no longer recognized when Boot Camp'ing into Windows XP

Mac Pro early 2008, Mac OS X 10.6.2, all updates applied. WinXP SP3. Standard wired Apple smooth mouse.
I normally use Parallels 4.0 to access my Windows XP on this Mac. That's been working fine and continues to do so. I upgraded to Snow Leopard not long after it was released. My Parallels is set to use the Boot Camp partition as the basis for its virtual machine.
I haven't started Windows directly from Boot Camp in some time. It used to work fine also. I am not sure I have accessed it directly from Boot Camp since I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
In any event, when I try to boot into Window, my slim wired Apple USB keyboard and mouse are not recognized. I get to the opening Windows Log-In screen and at that point, I can't move the mouse cursor and I can't type anything into the Windows password input box. The red mouse laser light flashes once every 7 or 8 seconds but also doesn't stay on.
Starting Windows under Parallels still works fine. I downloaded the BootCamp 3.1 Windows 32-bit upgrade from Apple. I tried running it in Windows under Parallels. Something ran for a while when I did that but there was no installation screens or dialogs after I clicked the "run" button.
Not sure what to do next.
Thanks.

Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.

  • Keyboard and mouse no longer work when booting into Rhapsody

I still have a bootable partition with the last release of Rhapsody (aka Mac OS X Server) on my Power Mac G4 but it's been a while (years!) since I actually booted it up. The G4 also has bootable partitions with Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 (and is in daily use running 10.4.11).
I used to boot into Rhapsody occasionally, mostly for interest's sake, occasionally to test Unix software on legacy systems; I haven't tried to do so since installing 10.4 until now.
When I booted up from the Rhapsody partition today, all went well -- the system started up fine, and the login screen appeared -- but the keyboard and mouse no longer work. I even got out the original keyboard and mouse that came with the G4, with no luck.
I assume that recent firmware updates have bypassed support for Rhapsody. I guess I'm not surprised -- it was a developer-only release, after all. But has anyone a solution?

  • Keyboard and Mouse no longer work after update

Earlier today I ran pacman -Syu for the first time since the 18th, and initially everything seemed to be working properly.  However, upon my next boot, both my mouse and keyboard (both USB) no longer worked, leaving me stuck at the login screen unable to move the cursor or switch to a different terminal.  Unplugging and reconnecting my keyboard and mouse did nothing.
A related topic (which could be solved by reconnecting the devices) suggested that booting with runlevel 1 might help, and this allowed me to use the terminal, but any attempt to start X resulted in getting stuck at login in the same way.
Disabling and re-enabling hotplugging via xorg.conf had no impact (there was a note in Xorg.0.log indicating that since hotplugging was enabled, mouse and keyboard drivers were being disabled.  Apparently it's a fairly standard warning).
The only package that was updated that seemed to be input related was xf86-xinput, but downgrading to the previous version did not fix the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this issue?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • I have os x 10.6.6 and I need to remove a partition from boot camp and I no longer have a boot camp assistant...HELP!!!

HELP!     You've heard of builders who never get their house finished?  Well, I have a husband who could do this and a friend of my husband's who can also but they REFUSE to help me or at least keep forgetting (conveniently).  I'm at wits end and am contemplating taking it to the shop.  UGH!!   I no longer have a boot camp assistant (I tried to do this before last year and gave up and bought a pc as my work programs wouldn't work with Mac.)  What can I do?
    Thank you!!!!!

Niels approach to get the BootCamp Assistant back is recommended because usually the correct way to remove your Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.

  • Installing Parallels when Boot Camp already running Windows

I'm considering installing Parallels on my MacBook Pro, which I already have partitioned with a drive running Windows using Boot Camp. What I need to know is, do I need to eliminate the partition with Boot Camp and if so, will I have to completely reinstall Windows and all my Windows software? I don't want to waste the partition that's dedicated to the virtual drive, rather I'd prefer to have the entire hard drive available to MAC. I really want to have parallels, as it's easier for me to be able to work on Windows and MAC applications at the same time, without having to stop-shut down-restart each time.

Parallels can use your existing Boot Camp partition for the VM, if that's what you're asking. However, if you want to have all one partition (without the Boot Camp one), then yes, you'll have to reinstall Windows when you install Parallels, unless there's some way to "import" your Boot Camp" setup that I don't know about.

  • Will i be able with Mac mini to connect a wireless keyboard and mouse (via USB) for first boot ?

Please answer . I ask that because I saw on a video showing its first boot , saying" connect a Bluetooth keyboard" . So I am worried . It's about its latest version . Thanks!

If your devices are using a USB dongle, the Mini will
likely see a mouse or keyboard connected via this method as
"wired" devices.  These dongles are configured this way
so that the host computer need not know anything about
    the wireless connection.

  • Win XP - keyboard and mouse

    Hi,
I recently installed windows xp using boot camp and initially everything was fine. However, after installing mac drivers with the mac OS X cd, the keyboard and mouse no longer work when running windows XP. Does anyone have any exerience of this or know how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Third party keyboards and mice may not work when booting from CD.
However they should work when booted from Mac OS X. One reason they might not, is you installed an older version of their software than is supported by that version of Mac OS X. Normally Mac OS X's built-in software supports third party keyboards and mice.
Steer Mouse and USB Overdrive sometimes work with multibutton mice when the third party mouse software manufacturer's software does not.
Also third party mice and keyboards have been known to fail after putting the machine to sleep and not work again until the machine restarts. This is because of their using non-standard USB power requirements. Sleep happens when you close the lid, or manually select it from the Apple menu, or when Apple menu -> System Preferences - > Energy Saver tells the machine to sleep after a period of inactivity.
If none of these appears to apply, see if the problem persists in a second user with admin privileges by creating one in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts and logging out from the Apple menu, and logging into it. Let us know the result if you get this far.

  • HT1752 I have an old iMac (the rounded type with monitor).  I need a new keyboard and mouse.  Will any work?  thanks for any help!

I have an old iMac for 2002....it's the rounded type that has an attached monitor.  The software is way outdated (OS X 10) and I only really use now to access 3,000 plus songs and old video of the family.  Both the keyboard and mouse no longer work.  Am I able to use any keyboard/mouse and plug in using USB?  Thanks for any help!

Most any USB mouse or keyboard should work. Borrow one if you can and just plug it in.
If the USB circuits are at fault then you can access via Firewire Target Mode with another Mac in order to get at the files.

Another alternative would be to remove the hard drive and use a USB adapter to access it as an external  drive.

'Power Source Optimized' from the Lenovo Power Manager puts the computer to sleep after a prescribed time.
To rewake it appears that one must press the power key  briefly.
The login screen for W7 appears and prompts me to enter my password.
Only problem is - the keyboard and mouse refused to wake up. Could anyone tell me what the trick is?
    Thank you!

if you use an external keyboard and mouse, would they work when you wake up the computer?

  • HELP:  Keyboard and Mouse stop working

I plugged a 4GB flashdrive into keyboard; received low power notification; plugged it into computer instead; it loaded on desktop, HOWEVER, keyboard and mouse no longer work - shut down computer for 5 minutes, still not working, unplugged and replugged in connections; removed flashdrive, shut computer off for 30 minutes; still does not work. The only positive thing, I have a laptop so I can ask this question. All the files I need are on the other computer, however. HELP

Hello! If the usb ports tripped out you'll have to reset the pmu. With all the external cables (usb/firewwire/monitor/a/c etc) unhooked press the pmu button once then reconnect and restart. Below are a couple of example of the pmu location. Tom

  • My DVD drive is now not recognized in boot camp.

I just found the Matshita DVD-R UJ-898 is no longer recognized in Boot Camp Win 7.  Tried uninstalling in Device Manager but the driver fails to load upon restart and also fails when trying to update.  The DVD drive works fine in OSX Lion so I know the drive is ok.  It worked fine when I first installed Windows 7 in Boot camp last year.  This is an early 2011 macbook Pro 17 with Lion.  All updates have been installed.  Hadn't used the drive in Win 7 for a long time so not sure when it ceased to work.

Found the solution.  Microsoft Fix-It found and made the driver repairs automatically.

  • When I disable my left windows key for gameing using Microsoft keyboard and mouse software, I can no longer type in firefox. How can i fix this?

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Software that you install with Microsoft keyboard and mice, (latest version) allows you to disable your windows key so that you don't accidentally hit it when gaming. When I take advantage of this feature, I can no longer type in Firefox. Typing in Firefox is completely disabled. Other browsers, windows, applications work, but not Firefox. What is it about the windows key that firefox needs for typing. Strange problem, but annoying because I have to use a different browser while game. Certainly not a deal breaker, but kinda strange.

  • Boot camp not recognize keyboard and mouse when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit

    Hi,
I have some issue when installing windows 7 pro 64 bit using boot camp. after done partitioning the windows drive and when boot to windows installation process, i've got stuck in the first screen when choosing the language. it seems that the keyboard and mouse are not detected.
i'm using boot camp ver. 5.0.
does anyone have similar problem with me?

I have finally successfully installed Windows 7 x64 on MacBook Air 13.3" (2013) thru Bootcamp.
Problem:  After Windows 7 install thru BootCamp, I got to the first login screen and not input devices (Mouse, keyboard, USB) worked.   I tried to boot into Windows Safemode, but I received the error  "Windows can not complete installation in Safe Mode".
Cause:  WIndows 7 does not have native USB 3.0 drivers, included on the install images.
Resolution:  I downloaded the latest device drivers with thru BootCamp and copied them to the USB Flash Drive that had my bootable Windows 7 x64 install on it.  The second option in BootCamp is "Download Support Media".  This does more than just download drivers.  It creates a file called "autoattended.xml".  This is key as it tells Windows during the install process to use the device drivers that you download.  Otherwise, you need to do it manually, which you can't because you have no mouse or keyboard.
NOTE:  I had no need of a super drive because I had all the files on one USB flash drive.  Therefore, I don't think it matter which side of the MBA the USB drive was plugged in, as other solutions suggested.
