Keyboard and Trackpad shut down
I've had my Macbook Pro since July 2008 and i've absolutely loved it, much better then my old PC. For the first few months it was running smoothly and I had no problems whatsoever. Now I am having a problem with the Trackpad and Keyboard shutting down at random times. I am forced to hard reboot the computer whenever it happens. I took a look on the support page and it seemed like there used to be a problem with this but there was a hotfix. I tried to download it but it said that my computer didn't need the firmware. Any suggestions?

There are a couple of things to try. First, check that your battery has not become swollen or distorted. If this happens, it can exert pressure from below and cause problems.
The other thing to try is to reset the SMC, since that may affect trackpad function:

Yesterday I was working on my computer and I changed English to Lithuanian language on the keyboard. I shut down my computer. Now when I want open it, I can't type correct password to access my account . There is left Lithuanian language on keybord, with has no numbers. And I need numbers to use for my password.

It does have numbers of course, they are made by first hitting the ` key (top most left most on a US keyboard) and then the usual number key. Have you tried that? Such combos often don't work in password fields, but you never know. -
my mac has started freezing and suddenly shutting down on me it seems as if every process has slowed down since downloading this last update of 11.1.4, any solutions? Because it shut down in the middle of a test twice now, saying keyboard issue.
What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.

I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated! -
My macbook pro 13.3 inch i7 late 2011 edition has previously encountered unresponsive trackpad and keyboard. To solve that, I used to open the back cover and then close it. It has been working fine since that. Yesterday, same thing happened, this time I noticed that bluetooth icon is showing a cross sign across it and keyboard and trackpad were unesponsive. After some time , everything worked fine and bluetooth sign was back to normal. Then , suddenly it went back to the problem. I shut it down by holding the power button. When I booted it again, I could not login because keyboard and trackpad were not working. I attached a HP mouse it didnt work. I opened the back cover disconnected the battery and then connected it again, didnt worked. Since then , I have tried many things and nothing has solved the problem.

As you suggested I reset the smc, in the first boot nothing worked. In the second boot, it all worked like a charm. I thought that my problem is resolved now. To test it, I shut it down properly. Next morning, I powered it on, all things i.e, keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth etc. worked and I thought that problem has been solved. When I was just going to visit apple forum to reply you, the same problem reappeared. A sawtooth cross over bluetooth icon, keyboard not working, trackpad not working,no usb mouse working which worked well when it was fine. I reset smc so many times again and again but same problem continued. Isn't it a problem of the firmware?
Next time when it will work, I will update its firmware.
My macbook was bought in dec2011 so no warranty now. -
Internal Keyboard and Trackpad freezes in Yosemite 10.10.3
Dear all,
yesterday I upgraded my mid-2014 15" rMBP with NVIDIA graphics to Yosemite 10.10.3. Just now, the keyboard and trackpad became completely unresponsive right in the middle of work (no sleep mode or anything, also there was only the power-supply attached, no USB devices, external screens or anything).
I had to attach an external USB mouse to reboot the system, after that, trackpad and keyboard were working fine again. I did run a diagnostic check (by pressing "D" during boot-up), which told me everything is "OK".
Before the upgrade, I used 10.10.1 and 10.10.2 on the machine for quite some time without any problem.
Browsing through the syslog I found some concerning entries, such as

yesterday I upgraded my mid-2014 15" rMBP with NVIDIA graphics to Yosemite 10.10.3. Just now, the keyboard and trackpad became completely unresponsive right in the middle of work (no sleep mode or anything, also there was only the power-supply attached, no USB devices, external screens or anything).
I had to attach an external USB mouse to reboot the system, after that, trackpad and keyboard were working fine again. I did run a diagnostic check (by pressing "D" during boot-up), which told me everything is "OK".
Before the upgrade, I used 10.10.1 and 10.10.2 on the machine for quite some time without any problem.

My wireless keyboard and trackpad won't connect and i can't sign in
my wireless keyboard and trackpad won't connect and i can't sign in. yesterday I tested it with my mac air and it worked fine. i deleted the connection from my mac air and tried it again. then it worded. howerver, i shut down my computer correctly and tried it again today. now the same problem again.
HELP!!no, just a usb mouse. but I found an old usb bluetooth hardware. this made it possible for me to make it work. but as soon as I remove the hardware it says "no bluetooth available"! I re-istalled mountain lion but still the same problem.
additionally I deleted/reset the PRAM. still the same problem. -
Unresponsive keyboard and trackpad on pre-installed yosemite macbook pro mid-2014
Hi,
I have a brand new MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). Shipped with Yosemite pre-installed, the version I have is 10.10.1 . I don't have any software installed except Google Chrome, so it is clean/new OS.
I noticed sometimes the keyboard and trackpad become completely unresponsive after waking up the laptop from sleep. Happened several times, the last time it happened I could not reset PRAM or SMC as keyboard was unresponsive even after restarting or shutting down so I had to Re-Install OS.
Right now I have the laptop next to me, again the keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive after wakeup from sleep, and I did SMC reset but did not work. Trying to reset PRAM or go into Recovery mode .. etc, it is not responding to the keyboard, as it is unresponsive at that point as well.
What should I do ? How can I tell if it is Hardware or Software problem ? I ran the apple test diagnostics test and there was no problem reported. And I am not able to install Mavericks because it is shipped with Yosemite pre-installed so it is not allowing me to downgrade.
thoughts ?I just noticed that I have the following in the system log, both keyboard and trackpad are completely unresponsive even when shutting down/restart/sleep. I cannot even reset PRAM.
This keeps showing up in the log, not sure what it means.

Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on newest MBP retina (late 2013)
So I literally ordered the late 2013 model the day it was released (October 23nd) because I had been waiting for it forever. I got it October 25th. That SAME DAY I used it, it started having problems. While I could be scrolling on tumblr or Facebook, the keyboard and trackpad would randomly just stop responding. It wouldn't move at ALL but the computer still works fine. One time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and the keyboard and trackpad froze just the same without me touching anything. I had to hold the power button down for 10 secs (the only button that worked) to shut off the computer which also LOST everything I had open. This has been happening EVERY SINGLE DAY since I used it except one. I called apple support and they couldn't figure out what's wrong either because it can't be anything I installed since I've only had it for a day when it first happened and all I had was google chrome installed.
The tech guy from Apple support told me to do the force quit shortcut on the keyboard if it happened again (which it did, as always) and it obviously didn't work because the keyboard was just not responding to begin with.
This kind of stuff started happening the FIRST day I got my computer four days ago, and it's been happening almost every single day; I don't think the problem is any programs I installed. I'm thinking I got a faulty computer, which would be very unfortunate because final exams are coming up and it would be very inconvenient for me to send it back and wait for another one. I also just put decals on it and that would go to waste as well.....
I waitressed every single night of the week for a month (and counting) in order to buy this for school and I was quite excited to have gotten it...but already problems are coming up with the computer that I spent so much money on.....this is really disappointing. What should I do? The apple support people aren't fixing the problem and there's no apple store near me and it would suck to have to send it back to wait for another because I have exams right now....and also the money I spent on the decal.Model Name: MacBook Pro

Help! Intermittent Keyboard and Trackpad freeze/unresponsive
Hi everyone
I'm pretty new to macs, and got my first one a few weeks ago - 2.4GHz White MB latest model. It has worked well in the first week, but I've experienced some problems with the keyboard and trackpad. At home I usually use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they work fine. I usually leave the MB on at night as well. Sometimes when I try use the keyboard and trackpad, it is completely unresponsive. I've also experienced this at uni as well, where it just suddenly freezes. I can only control it with my bluetooth mouse (at uni) and both bluetooth keyboard and mouse at home. This problem used to happen after waking up from sleep as well, where I would open the lid and the keyboard + trackpad is unresponsive. Sometimes when I'm in class and it freezes, I have to hold the power button down and do a power off and on.
The last time it happened was this morning. My mouse could still function, so I did a normal restart and it just hanged, and the swirly circle icon (not the multi colored ball) just kept spinning. Had to hold the power button down to shut it down and restarted it again.
Problem is, it seems to be an intermittent problem. I can't seem to reproduce it, so how can I take it to my local shop to get it checked out if i can't show them this problem?
What do you all recommend?? I really can't afford this to keep happening at random times.
Also have another complaint with the battery not being flat against the case. It seems to bulge out a bit. I called Apple a couple of weeks ago and they told me to take it to my local reseller where I bought it from (NextByte). I went there and they told me I had to drop it off to them, and it would take 3-5 days for them to take a look, and maybe even longer if they had to get it fixed. I can't afford to be crippled for so many days without my MB as all my uni notes are on it.
Please let me know what I should do. Thanks!Also forgot to mention if I use my bluetooth mouse to turn bluetooth off from the menu, it comes up with a message:

Keyboard and Trackpad freeze on 10.7.2 because of hidd process
Hi everyone,
I am running OS X 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro 4,1 Penryn late 2008.
My keyboard and trackpad stop working randomly and it's been happening for the last few months. Nothing can be done but a restart of the computer.
I found out after doing some reasearch online that it is because of the "hidd" process. Now what I do as a workaround is I use my magic mouse to force quit the hidd process because it seems like bluetooth is not affected (thankfully). hidd restarts automatically and then everything works again.
However, it's getting worse and I'd like to find a permanent fix for this, as it now happens a few times a day. It is SO ANNOYING when I'm working on a design or something else important without having time to save...
I know there are similar subjects on the forum but none of them apply to my case directly. Is there anything I need to reinstall, or a preference file I need to delete to fix this?
I fixed the permissions with OnyX, clean caches and everything, nothing works so far.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Test. Same problem(s)?

Keyboard and trackpad (mouse) unresponsive after waking up
Every once in a while, when I leave my PowerBook sleeping for a while, the battery inevitably drains to the point where it puts itself into the deep sleep (saving all info to the disk). When waking from this deep sleep, my keyboard and trackpad are totally unresponsive. I cannot do anything. However, when i hit the power button it gives me the "sleep/restart/shutdown" window. Only thing i can do is shut down. Any suggestions?

I have a late 2010 Mac mini (in perfect condition) and I love it. It has worked flawlessly till now until I recently installed Yosemite. The keyboard and trackpad are irresponsive (freeze) when I wake the computer from sleep. The monitor would wake up though.
I have tried to restore the default sleep settings and tried every other setting but to no help. Eventually I wiped out the hard disk and reinstalled Yosemite and its not helping either. This problem did not exist before Yosemite installation. PLEASE PLEASE HELP. Its become a big issue and I have to shut down the Mac mini several times each day and I keep losing my work.

OS X: Bluetooth devices become unresponsive -
Macbook 3,1. Clean install of Lion. Two days later my keyboard and trackpad aren't responding.
Left my computer for a couple minutes. Came back. Tried to move my mouse. Wouldn't move. Tried to Command-Tab to a different program. Keyboard wouldn't type. Plugged in my USB mouse and restarted. Got to the login screen and couldn't type in my password because the keyboard, along with the trackpad, still wasn't working. Tried powering down and removing the battery. Nothing.
So I scheduled a Genius Bar appointment. But is anyone else having similar issues with Lion upgrades killing their keyboard and trackpad?So it happens constantly, but shutting down my machine, unplugging the power cable, removing the battery, and hitting the power button/holding it down to reset the SMC works every time. Anyone know what this means?

A couple of days ago, my keyboard and trackpad both freezed at the same time.
After shutting it down and restarting it some hours later, both where still not working.
Than after several shutdowns and restarts, I managed to do a PRAM zap. After that the keyboard and the trackpad came back just to stop working again after two hours.
After that, I never managed to turn them on again. PRAM zapping does not work with a dead keyboard - and even with the help of an external keyboard clearing the PRAM did not help.
Now I'm using my MacBook with an external keyboard and mouse.
Is this a hardware failure or is there any chance to bring my internal keyboard back without having the Mac repaired?The problem has been solved - the hard way.
In fact this is a design problem with MacbookPros. The ribbon cable that you see when you take out the battery is subject to damages from, well, the battery.
Everytime you put your MacBook Pro into a bag, change the battery, or otherwise put pressure on this feeble cable, it gets weakend and finally breaks inside.
So either you got to get it repaired on warranty or - if warranty is gone, have it repaired for 250,-€ At least this was the price they gave me in a German Apple Sales Point.
So what I did was buying a used top case through ebay for about $30 and changed it myself. Keyboard and trackpad work again and to prevend another breakage, I reinforced the ribbon cable with tape.
I'd like to mention that I found zero comments from Apple on this issue.

My wife decided to set up her iPhone on my account and now everything is comingled. I want to set up an iTunes account for just me. Do I have to set that up on a computer or can I set it up on the iPhone?
