Keyboard backlight - 1/2 doesn't work

I have a Sept 2007 MBP 17" and the left half doesn't light up in the dark.
It is actually more than half. Only the area under U,J,and M and to the right of that lights up.
Wonder if this is covered by Apple Care? If not how hard is that to fix.

When I had to use Apple Care for my motherboard before, I had to drive it over, leave it, return to pick it up. 400 miles total. Then after 2 days, the backlight quit working and I had to drive over to have them plug the wire back in. 200 miles. I had 600 miles driving for that Apple Care.
Was worth it, but for a keyboard light... I don't know??

I have a Mac Pro, and have used an Apple Keyboard with a number pad (not bluetooth) with it for quite a while, with no problems. But then my keyboard broke and I ordered a replacement Apple Keyboard with a number pad (not bluetooth). This keyboard doesn't work with my Mac Pro. I have it plugged in, but I can't get the Mac Pro to consistently recognize that there is a USB keyboard connected to it. What magical stuff do I have to do to get the keyboard to be fit for purpose?

It would not hurt to try an SMC Reset. (But if it does not help, it adds credence to lllaass assertion that the keyboard is not working.)

Keyboarding password CDE window doesn't work

I don't manage to enter the password in the password window of CDE.
The password I type is the good one, it seems to be a keyboard issue, it is locked.
Is it possible to kill this CDE console and start it again.
To be more specific, this CDE is launched on the system console.

By default the router will use admin for either the password only or for both username and password. If it doesn't work you might have changed this before when you ran the setup cd the first time. Is the cisco connect software installed in the computer? You can check thru cisco connect what the router password is. Just go to "router settings" then check what the router password is. With cisco connect, your network password (wireless security key) is the same as the router password. Otherwise you'll have to reset the router for 10 seconds and it will goback to the default "admin" password or you may run the setup cd again.

Keyboard of MacBook Pro doesn't work anymore

Hello to everybody!
I hope, that somebody out there can help me as fast as possible.
I spread a coffee over my 1-year old MacBook Pro keyboard and as fast as I could I turned it head down, so that the coffee could come out of the keyboard. I cleaned the keyboard and tried it out, if everything still works... in the begining it worked, but then some letters begun to not work anymore or I couldn't write some big letters anymore... so I desided to put my extern keyboard from an other computer on my MacBook Pro so I could at least write with this extern keyboard. But now as I wanted to put this extern keyboard away my MacBook Pro keyboard doesn't work anymore at all. Now I have the question, if I need to give in somewhere an order on my laptop that I want to use again the laptopkeyboard instead of the extern-one? The problem is, that normaly with windows I was used to just put the extern keyboard away and my computer realized on his own that it needs to use the own keyboard again, but with the MacBook Pro this doesn't work, so I'm a little bit confused and don't know, if my keyboard is now totaly damaged or if I just need some computer-language-order to tell my computer to use the normal keyboard again.
Please HELP me!!!

i'm not suggesting it also, but it could work .
Btw, i will take off the keyboard from the MBP, disconnect the conector, so you can really give him a bath and shake it.
and, as it is dead, what do you have to loose ?
to take off a keyboard is quite easy, google will give you some tutorials on that.
another , may be the best method, is to clean it really, but it's like a pain in the a.s to dissassemble it.
I have done that on Apple Pro keyboard and apple Imac G3 rev 1 keyboard, and they are working as usual now, but it took me some hours, with a real good tutorial from sterpin.net(in french, useless for your topic)
so, a good bath in distillate water, with a lot of shaking, you can also press on keyboard keys, shake it, and so on, and 2 days under a august sun..
distillate is not expensive, and I will suggest it better than alcool, as it will not damage any of others components. Have in mind that it really need to be dry, so, 2 days are not so much, and, when the keyboard is under the sun , shake it too from time to time, just to be sure that some water can't make a "water bubble" in a place.

Bluetooth keyboard and magic pad doesn't work after sleep

This only recently developed, once my 2013 iMac goes into sleep mode, when I tap the keyboard to wake it up to put in my security password, the bluetooth keyboard doesn't work. Also, the track pad shows no point, i.e. I have a sign in screen, but can't sign it.

The keyboard of my computer doesn't work

**** apple community, i have a very serius problem with my macbook.
Today, i iniciated my computer to start working as usual, but i discovered that my computer do not recognize the keyboard or the trackapd that are attached to it. These are not external devices, they are built in my computer. Also, my macbook tells me that she can not find a bluetooth keyboard/mouse. My Macbook is normal macbook model mid 2009, with OS X (Lion) 10.7.5.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

So who you're talking to here is a peer to peer network of Apple users.
That said if your keyboard was failing, the power button is integrated into the circuit of the keyboard itself. So it wouldn't be surprising that the power button circuit would fail as well over time.
Normally a repair depot will replace the entire upper case and that's what's probably so expensive. However your Apple store should be able to preform a "Depot Repair" which would be a flat $300.
It is possible to buy a new keyboard for around $30 (Price for a 2011 13".) but the replacement is massively labor intensive. Everything has to come out of the MBP, the keyboard back light has to be carefully peeled away. There are over 80 #0000 Phillips screws that have to come out, the new keyboard carefully fitted and 80 screws put back.
Don't hold me to the 80 screws, I did try to count them but gave up and the count appears different depending on the keyboard.
I've done 3 so far!

Keyboard na mause (ps2) doesn't work

When i started my computer - the mause and keyboard sometimes hang. When reboot the system (win 2000 or XP) its working or not. I don't know what is teh problem. (In the past my Celeron 2.0GHz was broke in this motherboard - 845PE Max)

Also please spec. your MoBo model + 3,3 +12v amps on the Powersupply.
What happened to the Celeron CPU that broke ?
Are you overclocking ?

Keyboard backlight for MacBook Pro not working after update.

So I had an update for my Mac pop up yesterday, I completed the update and all was fine. I've just turned on my MacBook Pro again today and there's no backlights on the keyboard. I've tried adjusting it using the F5 and F6 keys but nothing happens other than a pop up on the screen (Pic attatched below) any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks. :-)

I just purchased the late 2013 macbook pro , new Mac user here and I was loving it until a few moments ago
Basically my keyboard is lit and everything "appears to be working"
But neither the keyboard or keypad is responding at all , the only thing that works is the on button
But that's no help because the on button seems to put my Mac only on standby as opposes to restarting it completely like on windows
What should I do ? Why are all of the buttons unresponsive except for on ?

If you press hold the power button for about 1.5 second slleep function will be initiated.
If ypu press and hold the power button for 5 secondsor more, Mac will shutdown.
Keyboard

    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.

Satellite P10, internal keyboard: The pipe key doesn't work anymore

Hello everybody!
I have a Satellite P10 with WinXP(SP1) for ca. 1 year.
Symptoms: It's about the internal keyboard. I've used the pipe key <|> indeed not everyday, but it worked. And suddenly I see that it's not doing anymore: it's "dead", whereas all other keys are working properly...
My following steps:
1) I've deinstalled the standard keyboard driver (101/102 keys) or Microsoft Natural Keyboard (PS/2), and it was successfully found after Windows starting up. There is no hardware conflict according to the Device Manager or System Information, the driver is running properly...
2) The keyboard layout is German. But I've tested already the English (US) one too: the result is the same.
Questions:
1) Is the key physically damaged?
2) If not, what can I do to fix the problem? Where can I get maybe a newer driver?

Hello Mischa
If you can not use the button at all I assume that the button is defective. It is not known to me that driver update can has influence on just several buttons.
If the unit is about 1 year old the warranty is still valid. You can contact service partner and let them exchange the keyboard.

When I type, all is fine using English/UK QWERTY keyboard but when I try to type a ! with the !/, key I get a ' and when I try to type a ? with the ?/. I get a "
How can I rectify this problem please?

The ' and " are alternate selections for those keys. If you press and hold on those keys you will see those choices.
Apparently, when you are typing, you are holding the keys down too long and getting the alternates.

I have a macbook 15 retina, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 Memory Go 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34).
I'm trying to install Bootcamp, but when they ask me to choose the language I'm not able to move or write. So I can't install windows. I tried to do everything from the beginnig 3 times by following carefully each step. I'm using windows 7 professionnal to install boorcamp. I'm sorry with my english, I'm french speaker.
How can I resolve this problem?

1. Did you use Bootcamp Assistant?
2. Did you build a USB with Windows 7 ISO and Bootcamp drivers?
3. You should use a USB2.0 disk, not a USB3.0 disk (flash drive).
4. What year is the Retina MBP?

I have read your post on how your wireless keyboard's sleep key doesn't work. Is your computer able to enter sleep mode by itself after a certain period of time? Are you able to enable sleep mode using a different keyboard?
