Keyboard Backlight does not work

I just got my new 2009 13" MacBook Pro.
I have installed Vista and loaded my Boot Camp drivers.
The Keyboard Backlight does not work.
Any suggestions?

My keyboard backligth does not work.
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, early 2011 with MAC OS X Lion 10.7.3.
I already set the preferences to be on in autmatic mode with low ligth on but this did not work.
When I turn on the computer the keyboar lights on but as soon as the computer finish the log on the keyboard goes off.
I will appreciatte any advise.

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to OSX 10.8.4, but now my keyboard backlight does not work and there is nothing I can find in the Keyboard section of preferences to turn it back on. Anyone else had this problem?

One of these steps should help.
1. Restart.
2. Press F6 key couple of times.
3. System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard
                       Uncheck the box next to "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light"
4. Reset SMC

hello, I have a problem with my iphone 4. Yesterday I set the alarm, and the screen went black. The phone still works but the backlight does not work. Can you help me ? Plz

I have turned it on under settings.
I have reset it.
I have restored it.
I have got my Ipod for at least six months.
I am using the latest firm ware.
My Ipod used to work well, but some day while I was running it froze. After that I have rested and restored several times and what is happened is some times it is still freezing or keeping change the music without playing (like searching). Additionally, I have noticed tha the back light do not turn on. I realy want stoping reset and restore my Ipod, almost every time I use it I have to perform these procedures.
Any help?

Double Click on Keyboard shortcut does not work

I want to change a keyboard shortcut. I have a Norwegian keyboard and the key combination for change active window in an application (multiple mail messages or Word documents) is not available. The Keyboard shortcut is set to ' - on my keyboard the ' character is <. The key combination < does not work unless I change layouts to a US keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts says that a double click on the shortcut will allow me to change the combination. This does not happen. I get an error bing instead. Any ideas of what is going on and how to change a shortcut in Leopard. I think this worked in Tiger. I have tried a hardwired as well as my bluetooth keyboard.

Solved this one - you have to click on the key combination itself and not in the text area that describes the key combination.

Custom shortcuts addee via Keyboard.prefPane does not work..

I read several sites that all refer to a way to create a shortcut for a menu command without one, ref.: <http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/keyboard.html>
However, that does not work at all for me. Never has. So what I am doing wrong? In particular, I would like to add a shortcut to open the main window of Address Book, after closing the window leaving the app running.
Anyonw could do me a run through? Cause the above mentioned procedure does not work.

PS: Oh, and in iPhoto I am not able to create a new film roll for the selected photos, even though I am following the exact procedure mentioned in Help..

The issue is typically a matter of focus. Particularly in Firefox. In IE, when the page loads and is presented, the Flash object (your Captivate movie) is given focus. So the keyboard shortcuts work. But that doesn't happen in Firefox. In Firefox, you must first click somewhere on the Flash object to give it focus. From there forward, shortcuts work because the Flash object is now listening for them.
In every class I facilitate I demonstrated this and advise that it's a good idea to have a button on the first slide. This serves two purposes.
It forces the user to click to proceed
It keeps the first slide paused until the user is ready
Yeah, before someone comes along and says: (in an annoyingly nasal tone) Mr. Man, you KNOW there is an option in Captivate to keep it paused at the start... I'm well aware that Captivate offers this option without adding a button, but I prefer it for the reasons above.

Keyboard illumination does not work. No light.

Hi every one,
I have a problem. My keyboard's illumination does not work at all. I tried pressing on F8/F9/F10 and nothing. Then something happened and now I have to press FN + F8/F9/F10, or even sometimes when I clicked on those, a thing popped on the screen with a "blocked logo" or "restricted logo" kind of a thing. I tried the Lab Tick and no good. I did PRAM reset and saw no difference. So, basically there is still no light at all.
BTW in System Preferences>Keyboard>limitation is checked.
So basically
1. How do I fix the illumination/light on my keyboard?
2. Why did the F8/9/10 work after I press FN at the same time?
Help please...

Show Reading List keyboard shortcut does not work

The Show Reading List keyboard shortcut (shift-command-L) does not work in Lion Safari 5.1.

Problem has been fixed. I reported the bug to Apple from the Safari menu. Also, I had a different application that used the same keyboard shortcut for one of their hotkey's which I disabled. Then it worked fine. Shift-Command-L now shows reading list in Lion.

Keyboard shortcut does not work on first slide in Web Browser

I'm using a workbook to learn Captivate.
I added a keyboard shortcut, the Enter key, to buttons on the first and second slides.
When I preview the project in Captivate, the shortcuts all work.
When I preview the project in a Web Browser (specifically Firefox 3.6.16), the shortcut does not work on the first slide, but does work on subsequent slides.
Any ideas why this would happen?

My backlight does not work

The backlight of my Video Ipod does not go on, but it works perfectly. What do i do?

I suggest a reset.. PUSH and HOLD the middle button and the menu button at the same time for 10 seconds..
If that does not work you might want to try a restore.

Keyboard shortcut does not work on ML

Hi everyone!
I've been in love with one smal feature of Lion: to send email with chosen file just out of the Finder by simply pressing cmd+shift+1.
In spite of that this feature is available in ML disability access preferences it does not work at all. I'm not sure if TotalFinder caused this failure, because it worked perfect during times of Lion.
Has anyone of you know some suggestion?

Never heard of that shortcut before. Where exactly do you see it? In Accessibility? Which section?
If I set up a shortcut with that combination, I do not get any warnings that it is in use.
You would have had to set that up yourself or a program was helping you do that.
In Mountain Lion, if you right-click, there is an Email option in Share.
You could also create an Automator Service to do what you want and assign a shortcut to that.
It quite possibly could be TotalFinder interfering with whatever you had set up before.

MacBook Pro Mid 2010 13", Lion 10.7.2, keyboard backlight / ALS not working

Since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion I have had problems with keyboard backlight and the ambient light sensor. I realized that the problem seems to be caused by ambient light sensor or hardware detection issues. LCD is not auto-dimming with light intensity variation. Since then I've done a Snow Leopard clean install and upgraded to Lion with no success. Then I have done clean installs of Lion using USB Keys with versions 10.7.0, 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 and the problem persists. Under Snow Leopard everything works like a charm.
SMC and PRAM reset did not solve the problem.
When I press F5 and F6 to adjust the backlight nothing comes up on the screen.
No settings under Keyboard menu.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

I have the same model MacBook Pro as you. Have you tried erasing your internal disk, reïnstalling Snow Leopard from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, and running Software Update to get it to 10.6.8, to see if it also misbehaves under Snow Leopard?

IPhone 4S keyboard dictation does not work - associated with Siri?

I have not been able to get the built-in iPhone 4S keyboard dictation to work. I talk into it, then tap "Done", then the phone "thinks" for a few seconds (the purple dots pulse and I see the network icon on the top bar spinning) and then nothing happens. The screen I was typing on comes back with nothing added.
Probably not coincidentally, I can't get Siri to work now either - she is "sorry, having trouble connecting to the network."
I've rebooted my phone and even reset the network settings, which doesn't help. I'm surprised the network would be so congested before 9 AM eastern USA time.
So, my question is, does the keyboard dictation tool go through the same network as Siri? Is this why it's not working?
FWIW, I got Dragon Dictation to work fine.
I think it's questionable design to make keyboard dictation work only with a network connection. I can understand this with Siri but not with ordinary keyboard dictation. It's a lot of overhead to go back and forth over the server if you are just dictating text.

My problem is similar with a variation. Siri is working fine. The dictation feature, however, has suddenly stopped working (and I was so excited about it when I started using it - and I haven't used it that much). I don't have text enabled, by the way, so I can't use Frank's suggestion above.
I have a 4-bar 3G connection (I live in Wilmington, NC - the town where my provider has its HQ, so the connection is not the issue). However, when I attempt to use the dictation feature, all I get is a spinning wheel next to the 3G icon and 3 pulsing purple dots, which don't stop until I hit the Home button or some other key. The dictated text never materializes. This makes me quite sad and frustrated. Up until now, I have been unequivocally in love with my IPhone 4S, and I want to be completely in love with it again.
I'd really appreciate a helpful solution.
**An update - Siri can take the dictation that I wanted to use with the microphone icon (she just wrote up a note for me, for example), but I really want to be able to go straight to the application and hit the microphone icon, to use fewer words/keystrokes, etc.

Boot camp 3.2 windows xp keyboard wire does not work key volume and brightness, etc.

I bought today a new apple keyboard with wire.
The old keyboard had a broken button, but the control keys f1-f12 all worked with both os mac or os both windows.
Now I change the keyboard, but I do not work anymore keys f1-f12 under Windows XP, but they work under Snow Leopard.
I updated bootcamp in XP until version 3.2, but the problem remained.
What can I do?

Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.
