Keyboard becomes unresponsive after ejecting CD

I have always had a problem with my keyboard locking up and not working until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. (Only with 10.6) Until this point I have thought it was just a bug at random. Now I have noticed that it is when I press the eject key on the keyboard. After this, the keyboard will lock up on all keys but the function keys, and I will have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in to get the thing to work. I am wondering if this is a OS X 10.6 bug, is it something I have set up wrong, or is it just an isolated incident. The latter is probably the least likely, due to the fact that this same setup worked fin in OS X 10.5

Did you ever find a resolution to this?
I don't work with hyperlinks in print, so I've never seen this before, but my initial responses would be to make sure you are patched to 7.0.4 and to try trashig the prefs. see Replace Your Preferences

  • Keyboard becomes unresponsive after using keyboard shortcut for Spaces?

Hi, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have the most annoying bug! I always use spaces, and sometimes after using the keyboard shortcut to a space, my keyboard becomes completely unresponsive and I have to log out and log back in again!! Any known fixes? It's happening on my Macbook and Mac Mini!
    Thanks

Check this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2161076&start=0&tstart=0) for the exact issue. Seems widespread.

  • Sometimes my keyboard becomes unresponsive when using Photoshop CS6, & I have to restart

Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I've found that every once in a while the keyboard becomes unresponsive.  I can't tell whether anything specific that I'm doing triggers it, but I'll be editing an image and will press a shortcut key and find it doesn't work. It doesn't happen when I first open up an image, but usually after I've been working for a while. As far as I can tell (it's pretty random) it seems to happen when I'm using a tool to apply an effect to an image, like this last time it happened when I'd been using the Spot Healing Brush repeatedly on a photograph. (Of course that could be correlation without causality, since I'm a big fan of the Spot Healing Brush and tend to use it quite a bit whenever I'm editing photos). Note that the modifier keys still function, but all of the letter and number keys are unresponsive.
Sometimes - and lately it seems like it happens always, there's a sound associated with the shut off.  It's possible that the times I didn't hear the sound I had my speakers off.  It's a brief clicking noise - and I don't think it's any of the built-in alert sounds on my Mac, since I just listened to all of them and I recall this sound being different - but the sound is definitely coming from my speakers and is not a mechanical sound from the machine.  I have no idea what might be causing this. I saw someone complaining of this a couple of years ago, who thought it might have to do with a Wacom tablet. I own one, but don't always use it, and this happens even when I'm not using it.  The only way I've found to get my keyboard responding again is to shut down Photoshop and restart.
I'm on a Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB Ram; I'm on OS X 10.7.4 (not quite ready to upgrade to Mountain Lion).

Okay - it looks like I've solved my own problem after a few hours searching for related problems on the web.  It's not a problem with Photoshop but with Mac OS X.  The default "Universal Access" mouse and trackpad preferences were set to "Press the Option Key five times to turn Mouse Keys On or Off." So when I use a tool that I'm modifying with the option key, and I use it repeatedly five times in a row, I hear the clicking sound that means turn on "Mouse Keys" (and turn off the regular keys). Turn off that option, and the problem is solved!

  • I just installed latest updates and now itunes becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes

The latest OSX update (Security Update 2013-003) perhaps is breaking itunes.  It becomes unresponsive after 10-15 minutes and I have to force quit it each time.

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Anyone notice that your keyboard is unresponsive after hibernate?

I've been noticing lately that my keyboard is absolutely unresponsive after I come back from a suspend that led to a hibernate. That is to say, suspend ... if batteries dies or you remove it it leads to hibernation... so when I power back (from hibernation) the trackpad works fine but the keyboard is unresponsive. Capslock light doesnt work either. Only solution I found is to reboot (using the trackpad) and all is okay.
Anyone else able to reproduce this?

'Deep Sleep/Hibernation' doesn't happen automatically when the battery goes flat, that's just normal hardware sleep ... any key/mouse click (once MagSafe power applied) will wake from that. The Power button is required for 'wake from Deep Sleep' (and you will see the vram software image loading with the Desktop greyed out)

  • Landscape keyboard becomes unresponsive

When entering a text message and switching to landscape orientation, the keyboard locks up after every few keys. Pressing a shortcut word or backspace makes it work again for a few more keystrokes. Portrait mode works fine.

Found mine to be slow / unresponsive at time in both portrait and landscape.  Did General > Reset > Reset All Settings.  Works now for me ..

  • Safari becomes unresponsive after zooming on a rMBP

On my 2.3GHz MacBook Pro w/ Retina, 16gb memory and a clean install of Mountain Lion, Safari becomes unusably unresponsive after smart-zooming on some pages.
    Here is an example:
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanvardi/2012/07/27/mark-zuckerbergs-big-facebook -mistake/
After smart-zooming on the article body, Safari stops responding for a significant amount of time.
I have tried on 1440, 1680, 1920, and 2880 width resolutions. Also, I do not have any extensions installed, not even Flash.
Is anyone else seeing the same issue?

Unfortunately, I have not found any solutions to this issue.
My guess is that zooming in Safari uses a strategy similar to pixel-doubling on the rMBP. So when you try to zoom to 200%, it actually creates a web page double in size, then limits the viewport to the size of your Safari window. When you couple that with the retina's pixel-doubling, a 960px width webpage might actually require 3840px of processing behind the scenes.
I might be way off in that explanation, but that's how sluggish it feels on certain web pages.
Additionally, the web page itself can contribute to the problem, depending on how optimized the code is. For example, smart-zooming on the Facebook feed seems ok, while any article on Forbes.com will stutter horribly.

  • Safari becomes unresponsive after approx. 24 hours uptime on machines

I have two macs (MacBook 2.4 Core2 Duo and Mac Mini 2.0 Core2 Duo both running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Safari 5) that are experiencing the same problem with Safari. Namely, after around 24 hours up bootup, Safari becomes unresponsive. That is to say, to attempt to open other webpages or scroll through open webpages results in almost perpetual "beach balls". Force quitting and restarting Safari doesn't help the problem.
The only thing that DOES work is to completely reboot the computer. This has been going on for quite some time now and I'm totally flummoxed. I'd offer up more information to help troubleshoot it, but I don't know what else to try.
    Any suggestions?
    Much thanks.

Hey HEY I THINK I may have figured it out. I opened console to watch what was happening when Safari would open. I noticed that right after the evernote plugin would appear in console, safari would being the beach ball bit. I had attempted uninstalling Evernote in the past without any change in safari behaviour. But right BEFORE on console it showed that an app called TastyApps AV was loaded.
I did a google search on TastyApps AV and found this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9492075
THAT AV plugin is for a program called VideoBox, which I actually use now and again. BUT on that thread people had stated to uninstall the Safari AV plugin for wonky issues under Leopard. So I opened VideoBox, and under the dropdown menu there was an option to uninstall that safari plugin. Once I did that, Safari IMMEDIATELY began running faster even before closing out / opening it again.
Once closed / reopened, it still takes a moment to get going (at the time evernote is appearing to start up in console) but after that it seems to be working pretty much ok.
Fingers crossed, I think this may have corrected the problem.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13' late 2013: built-in keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive after HDMI unplug

At my desk I usually plug 2 external monitor (one via HDMI, one via Display port) and an external APPLE USB keyboard and BT touchpad.
Most of the time I unplug the HDMI cable the built-in keyboard and touchpad stop working.
This is very annoying issue because I have to force a shutdown to fix that.
Only sometimes it got fixed by plugging back the HDMI cable.
I already patched with MacBook Pro Retina EFI Update v1.3 and Issue persists.
Is there anyone else with the same issue?
Any idea on how to fix it?

  • 4S becomes unresponsive after Genius Bar restore.

A member of the Genius Bar restored my iPhone 4S because of some 'minor' errors such as crashing apps taking up space. She done it yesterday and now it has become more unresponsive than ever.
Whenever I'm in a call I can't unlock it or use it whilst in a call (FaceTime, FaceTime audio, skype, Facebook call) I have to hard reset the phone which is kind if annoying!
She also said these words "it'll speed up your iPhone making it as fast as it's supposed to be". Its not fast. Not fast at all, infact I can tell that it's more slower and laggier .-.
Can someone please give me some insight on how to fix this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Solutions for 3TB USB 3 Seagate hdd becomming unresponsive after sustained (about an hour) usage on iMac7,1 running Lion 10.7.1?

I am running Lion 10.7.1 on my iMac7,1. After Time Machine warned that my 2TB Western Digital MyBook drive had filled up, I purchased a Seagate 3TB FreeAgent Desk USB 3 hdd for use with Time Machine with the understanding that USB 3 is USB 2 backward compatible. About an hour after initiating my Time Machine backup, I have repeatedly observed that the drive becomes non-responsive, causing finder, or any other program trying to access it to get stuck at a spinning beach ball. After repeatedly reformatting the drive, and repeating the process, I contacted Seagate tech support that informed me that there were seeing many cases of problems with USB 3 devices not working properly (in USB 2 compatibility mode) with Macs. Has anyone else seen this type of behaviour that can suggest a fix?
    Relevant details:
I'm using a 24" iMac7,1 with 6 GB of RAM and a 2TB internal WD hard drive running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1.
I have been using Time Machine in Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Lion with a 2TB USB 2 WD MyBook external hdd with no appearant issues.
I am having issues with a Seagate STAC3000101 drive that consists of 2 reassembled modules.
a appearantly stock SATA drive in a self-contained plastic housing with a bit extra sheilding and mechanical reinforcement on the SATA connector.
a USB 3.0 base that takes external power, and connects to the above module.
The drive was formatted with a single 3 TB Mac OS X Extended (Case-Sensitive/Journaled) partition formatted by Mac Disk Utility
    Testing has revealed that
Copying a > 4GB file to the drive does not cause the problem (This sounded like a Windows 32 bit filesystem issue anyway)
Causing Lion to "Sleep" while in the middle of a file copy did not cause the problem either. (Waking the system made it pick up right where it left off).

I don't recommend using any sort of 'disk cleaning' software - OS X is based on Unix and cleans up after itself very well: no need to use utilities that purport to 'clean' your system and certainly not on a daily basis. If you must use anything I would recommend use Onyx - and just using it to clear logs and caches maybe a couple of times a year.
I'm not suggesting that Ccleaner had/has anything to do with your problem. It could even be out-of-date Wacom tablet drivers.
As for the Unarchiver software, the Mac has zip unarchiving built in and I would suggest using one of the unrar apps available in the App Store if you run into rar files for some reason. Again, it's likely not at the root of your problems, but there are free or nearly free alternatives.
Have you tried upgrading to Mountain Lion, particularly on your 2012 machine? It's supposed to fix some USB problems. Also make certain again that you have the very latest Wacom drivers - that's really the only thing that I can see that might be causing the problem on both of your machines.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
