  • Mouse/cursor behaving badly

Seems to have started recently, maybe with OS software update? My mouse is behaving badly as in it can't seem to capture open Mail windows to rearrange them on my screen - often takes 3 or 4 attemtps to "catch" the window. Also, can't rearrange stacked layers in palettes in Adobe CS4 programs, keeps wanting to bring up dialog boxes for layers instead. Have changed batteries in mouse (Logitech optical wireless) and changed mouse preferences, but seems to be getting worse. Any ideas? Could mouse be getting old? Have had it for quite a few years. Am working on a Mac 2x2.4GHzQuad-CoreIntelXeon, Mac OS 10.6.8.

Bluetooth is turned off. The 'wireless' is a direct wireless and not through the Airport. When I turn Airport on, there are three other networks visible but they are all locked.
But, given your suggestion about the mouse, I just tried the mouse on my laptop - AND IT'S THE MOUSE!! Same behaviour repeated on the laptop...
Thanks. Time to go get a new mouse and lay this one to rest.

    Hi Ramki,
We are looking in to this. We see this happen every now and then. Not really common which makes it very hard to track down the cause.

  • With or without add-ons, and after removing/reloading Firefox, some sites behave badly, though they're fine with Internet Explorer.

The computer in question is running Vista. With Firefox 8, some websites, e.g. Whitepages.com, livefreept.com, behave badly. Spedifically, they require the user to click on tabs. But the tabs don't appear at all. I upgraded to Firefox 10, to no effect. The sites work fine on this same computer with Internet Explorer, and on both our XP and Windows 7 computers using older older versions of Firefox. All three are using the same Norton Internet Security program, with the same settings. Starting in safe mode, with no add-ons has no effect. Help!

  • IPad keyboard behaving erratically.

I am using a new 10w USB charger for my iPad and when I try to use the touch keyboard it starts behaving erratically. I touch a letter and other letters appear and when I touch the delete button more letters appear? When i unplug it the keyboard is fine, is this a problem with the charger?

I would try another charger now. Borrow one if you can or take your iPad and your charger to an Apple Store.
If the iPad keyboard behaves erratically with another charger, it could be an issue with the iPad. If you switch chargers and the problem goes away, then I would assume that the charger is the culprit.
Does this make sense to you?
You can also try this and  see if it makes any difference. Do this while the iPad is not plugged in and charging. Reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Keyboard covers bad idea?

I really want to protect the nooks and crannys of my keys, but I was reading that this could be bad for the air ventalition. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I was considering getting the iSkin keyboard cover for my 1 day old MBP17in.

By glossy, I assume that you are thinking of something like the clear plastic screen protectors used on PDA and camera screens. The RadTech ScreenSavrz, and the similar, but smaller screen saver in the Marware Protection Pack (which I use) are microfiber cloth. OWC sells some made of suede. They are placed on the keyboard before closing the computer up. I like the Marware product, because it has a cover for the area around the trackpad, which can get ugly after a while.

  • Keyboard behaving erratically

    Hi,
Since I bought my iMac around 3 months ago the keyboard has occasionally behaved as if some of its keys were being pressed when they aren't. Sometimes the caps lock will turn on and the computer will make the "Funk" sound (the system error sound) repeatedly. Often, pressing a button on the keyboard will temporarily fix the problem, although it usually comes back moments later.
A few moments ago I heard it start making this sound from across the room, while the screensaver was on. When I checked it was flicking between asking for my password (to exit the screensaver) and telling me the password was wrong.
As far as I know my house is not haunted. Has anyone experienced this? Better still, has anyone managed to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Haven't tried another keyboard, the only other computer I have is a laptop with built-in keyboard.
It's definitely not due to spillage as no liquids have been near it, and it has been doing the same thing since a week or so after I bought it (new). I don't know if this helps, but none of the keys appear depressed (i.e. sitting lower than the others). I originally thought it was a Firefox bug, as it only happened when I had Firefox running, but noticed it was doing the same thing when I was using Safari instead.
    Thanks for the suggestions though.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 2011 (10.9.2) - Keyboard behaving very oddly.

    Apple MacBook Pro 2011 (10.9.2). My keyboard has started behaving strangely.When you press the certain keys you see other characters as well, such as;
    1 - volume up
    2 - `
    3 - §
    4 - ]
    5 - [
    6 - =
    8 - right arrow
    9 - up arrow
    = - 6
    up arrow - 9
    right arrow - 8
I’ve tried resetting the NVRAM / PRAM.
Can anyone offer any other suggestions please?

Do you have a secondary keyboard you could connect.  If that works properly, the other is probably faulty.

I don't have this machine but could it be a matter of adjusting the settings of upper or lower case.

  • Why does my firefox intermittently (and seemingly randomly) behave as though my control key is stuck on, even though my keyboard behaves normally in every other program? AND it will also randomly change my keyboard mapping to an international one.

I will be using firefox, and for some reason, it behaves as though control key is being held down. If i use the mouse wheel, the page zooms. If I press the letter 'o', the "Open file..." dialog opens. But I'm not holding control. If, while this is happening, I switch to another application like Notepad, it behaves normally. But then I'll go back to firefox and the problem is still there. It seems to randomly start and stop.
Also, in a possibly related problem, my keyboard mapping will change from my default US to some other foreign mapping where shift-6 incorrectly outputs '?' instead of '^', for example.

  • Keyboard behaving strangely

I cannot figure out which shortcut changed my keyboard configuration and how to go back.  See if somebody out there can help.
    Two examples.
    1. When I hit enter, Exposé pops up.  I need to hit ctrl-enter to change a line.
    2. When I hit delete (backspace), the following character appears "ç".  I also need to hit ctrl-delete to actually delete a space.
How can I go back? I've been looking at different shortcuts but cannot figure this one out.
    Thanks!

This was it.  Tried a different keyboard and issue solved.

  • ITunes 8 behaves badly on second monitor

Strange problem that I have noticed on my MacPro 2.66. I have two 22" LCDs running on my MacPro with 4GB of RAM and 10.5.5. If I try move the iTunes window on right LCD by grabbing the header bar and dragging the screen will freeze for about 30 seconds. The window will eventually move but the screen will not redraw. If I move the iTunes window to the other LCD it works fine. This only affects iTunes not any other panels on the right LCD. Quitting iTunes and restarting doesn't solve the problem. I did rebuild permissions after I upgraded to 10.5.5.
Can I just restore iTunes 7 from my Time Machine back-up?

kinu wrote:No way with Twinview (or I don't know how to do it). I will try with xrandr.
Yeah, seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GUI, but it seems that it's possible [and necessary] to configure it with Xorg's configuration files if you want more freedom to position your monitors.
Since some extra configuration is needed with the Nvidia driver, xrandr alone might not be ideal in your situation. [I mentioned it before since I never needed to mess with my Xorg configuration, and an .xprofile script based around xrandr works better with my Intel-based laptop. ]
Xorg's config files seem like a better choice for you, and if you need to change monitor layouts on the fly, xrandr should still work once you have a good Xorg configuration. If you choose to go this route, you'll probably find this section of the Xorg wiki page very useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Nvidia_2
Since you'd need to specify a position for your second monitor to workaround this, you'd need to use a line like this, instead of the "RightOf" one in the example configuration: ' Screen       1 "Screen1" x y ' where x,y is the location of the upper left corner of that display.
[If a configuration file already exists, make sure you create a backup of it first. Worst-case scenario, a bad config file will prevent X from starting, and you could just restore the backup from the command-line.]
I also discovered that offsetting it by the exact height of your panel seems to cause problems on your primary monitor [at least with the latest version of the XFCE panel]. Upon rebooting, windows would not respect my panels, and instead would go underneath them when maximized. Although, by offsetting my second monitor by a little more [1920x280 instead of 1920x284], both monitors allow windows to maximize correctly, so if you run into the same problem, something like that should fix it.

  • Keyboard going bad

i bought a new "silver surfer" keyboard (slick looking aluminum
with a white bottom and flat keys) for my macpro in order to replace on with a transparent case and hexagonal 3 dimensional keys (that had funky keyboard action and which didn't match my macbook pro in terms of characters) - and now I am finding both it and the keyboard on my macbookpro have keys that are starting to come loose.
the macbookpro is still under 3 year warranty.
does anyone know what the deal is in terms of returning the keyboard? can I walk into the MAC STORE with my receipt and the defective product and get a cash return?

Standard "no quesuions asked" return is 14 days.
Beyond that, they will repair/replace it for a year.
If you are plugging ANYTHING except a single low-power mouse into any of the keyboard USB ports, the cause of your problem is operator error. The keyboard itself needs almost all the power a standard USB provides, and adding additional loads WILL cause it to malfunction.
