Keyboard boot keys (option) do not respond..

Hi all,
I have white intel 2 iMac's.
Both of them do not respond to the OPTION key while booting.
Nor the they respond to C, D, X, etc. etc.
I tried both types of keyboards. The white one that came with the iMacs & the new aluminum ones.
I went to the an apple store where they hooked my iMac to a white keyboard, and it worked immediately. The same keyabord I tried @ home!!!
Ok, I thought.
Must have been some stupid thing I did wrong, but upon testing it at home again, no success.
So, has anybody else had this happening to them?
Is it fixable? It seems like the keyboard firmware is out of date or something like that.
Software update indicates that everything is up to date.
Ideas anyone?

Hi -P5ycHO-
There might be a compatibility issue with the new Aluminum Keyboards depending on which iMac you have.
However, it is strange that the Keyboard at the Apple Store worked and not the original one that came with the iMac. Perhaps you are not applying and holding the Option key and the proper time or the Option key is busted?
Suggestions:
1. Try holding the Option and other Startup keys right after the startup chime.
2. Take the Keyboard to the Apple Store and test it to see if works on there iMacs.
3. Update your Discussions Profile and iMac to 10.5.8 the current version of Leopard.

    Hello Sp2sun,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Use this article to troubleshoot touchscreen issues
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response

Tip: To isolate an issue related to a portion of the Multi-Touch display, follow these steps:
Open the Maps application and double-tap each corner, then the center, to verify that it zooms in to each section.
If a specific area is affected in another application, note the location and try to verify touch functionality for that location in the Maps application.
On iPhone and iPod touch, you can also use Calculator:
Open the calculator app to test all but the top row of the screen. Press each button on the calculator and verify activity.

  • The keyboard in my MBA is not responding. The power button works fine and backlight is operating, but nothing else. I have tried SMC and Terminal but nothing helped. Would anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thank you for your time.

MBA keyboard not responding. SMC didn't work.

If the USB keyboard still works after you log in, then the machine needs to be repaired.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • My keyboard and trackpad occasionally do not respond for 1-2 minutes.

I bought my MBP new in July of this year and since I've had it the keyboard and trackpad have randomly stopped responding. It happened when I had lots of programs running at once and when I wasn't running anything. I took it to the Apple store and the genius said I needed to "ground" it by plugging the magsafe charger into the wall socket with the extension with the 3rd bottom prong. I've since done this and the keyboard and trackpad continue to freeze. I saw the update for this problem and it wouldn't let me download it because it said my computer didn't need it. I assume this is because my computer already has the update on it because it was made after the update came out? Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

This isd a common problem for users who bought there Macbook Pro before March 2008. You should try installing the update again. If that does not work try to use an external mouse and keyboard to test if this is a logic board problem which could effect the USB ports causing them to not work either. If that's the case take the computer to apple and have the do a full diagnostic on it to save you anymore headache. You could in theory do the Apple hardware test yourself by taking you original Leopard install DVD and booting into the hardware test by holding D when you start up.

  • Problem with Youtube and Flashplayer : some options are not responding anymore

I have a very strange problem since few days only on Youtube (other famous flashvideo websites are working without problem) I tried many things already without success.
I can still play videos on youtube, excepted the buttons under the player are not responding AT ALL. I can still see them but it's not responding (or for exemple when Im going on the youtube player "Sound" icon the bar volume doesn't appear)
I tried already to uninstall flashplayer and update it to the last version (10...38) but no changes. I have the same problems on all browers (IE; Firefox and Chrome). I also reset all Firefox and IE without success. Reinstall Java. And I have the last drivers for my graphic ard AMD.
Here is a few pics to show my problem :
You can see clearly that the button for resolution doesn't appear at all.
Picture of my youtube player :
    on Firefox :

    on IE
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/225/29761205.jpg/
Quite strange also on IE you can see that there is a kind of bar who seems to block me the access to the control of the youtube player icons :
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/812/ie2q.jpg/
Im on Windows 7 64Bits, but i'm using the 32Bits version of Firefox and IE, I tried also to turn OFF my Avast Antivirus and my firewall. But no changes.
If anyone has an idea, i would really appreciate because even if i can still watch video, i cannot change the audio volume of it and change the resolution or even activate the google subtitles options. The only icons who are responding on the youtube players are the two on the right (to enlarge the screen).

  • Can't sign in (user id); keyboard has keys that do not work (can't type password)

After about 20 days of inactivity, I went so sign in to my MacBook.  I selected my user id, and the password box comes up.  I cannot type in my password, because it contains the key "M".  "M" is no longer working on my keyboard.  So I am not sure if the keyboard or the actual user id is the problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Boot Keys (Options)

Is there a document anywhere that lists all the boot keys and the options they invoke along with some explanation of the usage of each? E.g.. "boot t" invokes Firewire target mode and "boot c" invokes the stand alone Disk Utility (which is pretty self explanatory.)
    Thanks

  • Caps Lock Keyboard "G" key causes hanging notes

When I use Logic Pro 8s Caps Lock Keyboard the "G" key causes hanging notes. The only way I've found to end the hanging note is to start and stop the sequencer. This behaviour happens when auditioning instrument sounds and in Record or Record Ready mode.
It's not a mechanical problem, as the "G" key doesn't cause multiple entries in text documents etc when pressed and released quickly. It only seems to be misbehaving inside of Logic itself, when using the Caps Lock Keyboard.
Is anyone else having this trouble?
Does anyone know why it happens and/or how to fix it?

    can someone help please?
I opened up a new song, blank, and the caps lock keyboard worked fine.
seems to be a problem with older songs, which leads me to think maybe its a setting i have changed, ie when playing with uc33 midi contoller.
    thankyou

  • Power option settings not responding

HP e9237 c desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Power settings for monitor and computer do not respond for sleep, hibernate or power off functions. Screen saver does not work using Windows version or third party ones. In addition, the auto play for the CD/DVD drives do not work. This started several months back and I have exhausted all tests that I know to do.  Any help would be appreciated.  Ted

    Hello tevans9129,
What you seem to be referring to is a system recovery which will recover the system back to it's original state. However, if you use system restore this restores the computer back to a specific point in time. Say you know the computer worked January 1st. You can go into System Restore on your computer and tell it to restore your system back to how it was working on January 1st. The entire process shouldn't take more than an hour.

  • Keyboard modifier key remap suddenly not working

I am using a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I use a third-party USB keyboard that is laid out (naturally) Windows-style, with the Alt keys inside (closer to the space bar than) the “Windows logo” keys. I use the Modifier Keys button in the Keyboard preference panel to remap these to the standard Mac configuration, with the Command keys on the inside and the Option keys on the outside.
Today those modifier keys are suddenly reversed back to the default Windows layout. The Keyboard panel still shows my preferred (remapped) configuration, but it is not being honored. I have tried reverting to the default layout and then back again, I have rebooted the system, nothing works—the modifier keys are still stuck in the Windows configuration. I rely heavily on keyboard macros in my work, most of which use the modifier keys, and those keystrokes are built into my fingers as second nature. The reversed modifier keys are driving me crazy. Please help: what can I do to make the keyboard honor my settings in the Keyboard preference panel?

Same problem here. Been working fine for a couple years and now suddenly the modifier key mapping is being ignored.

  • File and keyboard commands in Illustrator CC not responding.

I'm having massive problems with Illustrator CC. The open and paste commands work once or twice and then nothing. Unless I quick the program, they will not work. I have tried everything. I took the drastic step today and erased the hard disk today and loaded EVERYTHING again. And I mean everything.  I even tested it with no fonts activated to see whether it's a font conflict. Still not working. I'm done. I have nothing left to test. What else can I do? Has anyone else having this problem? I need help.

    All fixed for now Larry.
Anhkil's time from Adobe helped enormously after I had wiped the hard disk. Seems there was only one avenue to look at after that. The user account permissions had become corrupted. Not sure why after wiping and starting from new. Created a new user and deleted the old one. (This move didn't work before wiping the hard disk). All working well at this time.
