Keyboard bottom row quit working

The bottom row of keys on my wireless kleyboard just quit working. All of the other keys work, except for z -/ and the space bar. Any suggestions or do I need to replace the keyboard?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Jeff:
I believe you have a hardware problem. You did not indicate the KB manufacturer - if it is Apple and in warranty, they will replace it for you.

  • Command key + z,x,c,v,b (bottom row) not working

So this is the weirdest thing I've experienced with my macbook pro.
Basically any shortcuts using the left command key + z,x,c,v,b... (the entire bottom row) stopped working all of a sudden.
And here is where it gets really weird. Pressing the left command key + a,s,q works just fine.
So I can select all, save, and quit an app with the left command key but nothing using the bottom row works. I can still type those letters though. (as you can see)
The problem only seems to occurs when using that specific combo: left command key + bottom row.
I have no idea what's going on. Already reseted PRAM and SMC.

If you rest PRAM and SMC
You can try reset Keyboard>shortcuts> Restore Defaults
Otherwise I would have it looked at

  • My Keyboard and Mouse Quit Working and Computer Slow to Boot Up

Last week my iMac wireless keyboard and mouse quit working. (Batteries are OK). That same morning the computer started taking a very long time - several minutes - to boot up. I've been using a wired keyboard and mouse but I'd rather get back to the wireless ones.  The other discussions I've read all refer to Bluetooth but I don't find  that on my computer. Help!!   Thanks.

    Hello cindycat,
Love the name ... so evocative
Go to Apple menu > Systems preferences > Internet & Wireless.   There you will find bluetooth.   Click on it and In the bottom right corner is a purple ?.   Click on that to learn about setting up bluetooth.
Incidentally, batteries are often not okay (though you may think otherwise).   The only batteries that are okay are top quality unused batteries.   And even then you should check the contact points inside the mouse in case there is corrosion.
    Keep us advised.

  • My keyboard shortcuts have quit working - HELP!

    All,
Can anyone tell me WHY my keyboard shortcuts—new window, close window—have quit working.
It's a pain in the tuckus to have to open a window with a menu.
It happened suddenly and would appreciate a fix if anyone has the same problem.
    Thanks!

I change my Spotlight shortcut to Ctrl + Space and have no problems. I've never had a problem with use the Space Bar to get the Hand tool.
Try restoring your preferences first before you take the trouble to reinstall. Here's how:

  • Ringer, Keyboard sounds, etc. quit working

I noticed yesterday that my ringer seemed to have quit working, and also realized that the keyboard clicks and lock/unlock sounds were not sounding, and neither were the text message notifications.
I turned the phone on and off to see if that would help. When that did not, I restored the phone, which worked for a few minutes. The chime sounded for a text message, but when I received a call soon thereafter, it vibrated, but did not ring.
Any ideas? I need to get this phone to last another 2.5 months until I can upgrade to a new one. I'm really hoping I can prevent it from dying before then.

Yes. I've had the phone for quite a while. I have actually tried switching the switch on and off to see if that could be the problem.
Oddly, the sounds have started working again. For no reason that I've been able to ascertain. I'm hoping it isn't a loose wire in the phone, as an out of warranty fix will be as expensive as replacing the phone in 2 months.

  • Lock screen and keyboard sounds have quit working.  The settings are correct and the device is not muted.  What else can I do to get the sounds working again?

Four days ago the lock screen and keyboard sounds quit working, but was able to reset the settings.  Two days ago I had to do this and turn off the device and then restart it to get the sounds back.  Today they suddenly went out and I can't get them working again.  The settings are correct and the device is not muted.  My OS is up to date.  What else can I do to get the sound back?

    Summary
In some situations, you may need to reset your computer's SMC.  Learn how to identify these conditions and reset the SMC.
    Products Affected
    Desktop Computers, Portable Computers
Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described below. In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method to resolve the issue, however, an SMC reset should only be attempted after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosingRestart.
Shut down your Mac by by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications. For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
Shutdown the Mac. Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary. After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:Fans

  • Keyboard/pad quits working

My MacBook's keyboard and trackpad quit working at random intervals. Once this happens, I am forced to restart using the power button.
After a typical restart, the keyboard and trackpad work, but will quit working within 1 min to 2 hours.
I can connect a mouse to the USB port and that will work after the keyboard and trackpad have stopped working.
I have tried zapping the PRAM, but that does not seem to have helped. I have also checked for software updates, but I am current on that end.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation.

Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation. The tabs on bottom of all apps also work fine.
I have already tried holding down the power button and home button for 10 seconds, but no difference.

I've had this problem on and off for the last few weeks (around, but not directly related, to upgrade to 6.1...can't remember if was before or after)....I'm very convinced it's a software problem (as there have been times when the bottom row works perfectly, without any need to "press" differently or anything).
However, it seems to be a rather resilient software issue, as a full restore does not consistently fix it, and it applies to more than just the keyboard; if I open a drawing app, there's definitely a row (about 4mm up from the edge of the screen closest to home button) where I cannot draw.
It's happened 4 times now.  Originally it went away with a restore from backup, then worked for 2 more days.  The second and third times, it went away with a full restore (although I did two full restores in between those two restores that did nothing, so restore didn't consistently fix it)....and it seemed to return in the most random of circumstances.
I paid very close attention to what apps I was using the last time it was working so that I could spot which app, if any, might be causing the issue.  I deleted several apps, I stopped using the games and many other apps.   I only used three apps between it working fine and starting up as a problem again: mail, safari and messages.
I was convinced it was mail, as it happened this morning when I picked up my phone off the bedside table to respond to a new email.  It was working when I went to bed.  I picked up the phone when it buzzed, hit the email app, hit reply and started to type....**** bottom row wasn't working again.
However, tonight I did 2 things....one of them worked because it went back to normal (sorry, I don't know which as I was exasperated and trying a number of things).
The two things I did between a broken keyboard and a working keyboard were:
    1) adding a second keyboard (English(Canada)), changing to this keyboard, and changing back
    2) disabling Siri...and then turning it back on...and then disabling Siri's "Raise to Speak"
In retrospect, I wonder if it actually was the "Raise to Speak" that was putting the phone into a weird state, and might explain why the phone would just "suddenly" start behaving strangely when I picked it up.  Of note, the "raise to speak" hasn't actually triggered Siri to come on in months anyway.
Regardless, the keyboard is back to normal now...and I'm just going to leave "Raise to Speak" off.  I've put the keyboard back to just "English" with no alternates and Siri remains on otherwise without issue.

  • Bottom row of keys not working

The bottom row of letters on my cordless keyboard stopped working.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem.

I'm assuminig the keyboard is defective, because of other posting reporting the same problem but none have any resolution. Replace it with a wired keyboard if you can buy one, they are less prone to glitchy behaviour.

  • My keyboard on my 4s will not type the letter p or 0 in vertical/portrait position and the whole bottom row in horizontal sometimes does not respond

My keyboard does not type the letter p or the number 0 in portrait/vertical position. And when I use the horizontal keyboard from time to time all functions on the bottom row do not work at all like the space bar, return key, etc. It has become a bit of a nuisance. I have just installed the 7.1 update but was having this issue prior. I have also had the glass replaced (not by apple) about a year ago with no issues until now. Is there anything I can do? I have not reset all settings. But I really don't want to have to do that because I doubt it will help.

    UPDATE
Called HTC... No help, suggested factory reset ,which I didn't mind as I have no data on the phone yet, after reset must call *228 to reprogram. Did not work. Next suggestion, download a keyboard app, the free ones are crap. Why should I have to pay extra to make the device usable? I thought a working keyboard was apart of the initial $200.
On my own I tried *228 option 2 which is some sort of roaming update. That did not work either.
