Keyboard buttons all wrong

Hi,
I have just bought my first mac and am very confused with the tiny silver keyboard, the main letters are fine, but all the other keys are everywhere!
For example to get a ? I have to press the key that would normally give you a dash or an underscore....

When I go into System Preferences - Keyboard and mouse - there is no further option to change the keyboard type....just keyboard shortcuts....
When I go into International - Input menu - I changed it to Spanish, which is the country I;m in and where i bought the mac, but its the same...there are 3 headings ;character palette, japanese kana palette, keyboard viewer ........ should i do anything with these? They are unmarked at the moment...

HELP: keyboard button outputs wrong letters/symbols

I just got a bootcamp windows 7 on my macbook pro. after doing this, i cannot seem to type the "~" key next to the number 1 key. instead of "~" it outputs "\" and "|" when pressed with shift.
has anyone encountered a similar problem or know how to fix this?
I do not know whether this problem has to do with the bootcamp, but it used to work before.

The best way to do this is to download Sharpkeys, an open source software available at http://sharpkeys.codeplex.com/
You don't need to install anything, just execute the .exe.
On the main screen, ADD a "rule".
In the window above, use the "Type Key" button.
Just press the ~` key on the top left of the keyboard and you will see the window above. This is the key code for this key, which is interpreted wrongly as |\ in bootcamp. Click OK.
You now have to choose the new mapping for this key, as in the next image.
Then click OK, and don't forget to write to the registry, using the button at the bottom right of the main "rules" window. Reboot and that's it.

All I get on web pages is the letter "A" it looks like a keyboard button.

Not all the type but most on some pages is just a keyboard button looking letter "A".
I'm assuming it's a font issue but I don't know for sure.

Setting Jbuttons to function as keyboard buttons

Hi
I would like to know how I can set a jbutton to function as a keyboard button. In my application I have a keyboard with alpha numeric keys with
"Shift" "Caps" "Enter" and all that. I want them to function as keyboard buttons, like when I press the jbutton labled "A" it should print "A" on my the text area of my program. if I press Shift and then "A", it should print "a" in my text area. same with all the rest of the buttons. It should be like a on-Screen Keyboard. can anybody help me with this. I will be greatfull

The buttons are named Q2 and Q4 and are placed in a different cell then the content (both BOLD in the code)
How do I assign these two buttons to make the text scrollable in the cell?
You can't do this with HTML alone. Scrollbars are a browser function.
The best you can do is wrap content in a division with CSS height and overflow properties.

Keyboard Buttons Stuck

it seems as if i have random keyboard buttons are stuck, not physically, but its as if my mac thinks they are. ive had the 'Return Key', 'Page Down', and other random keys suck at different times, and it kinda fades in and out and ive yet to find a reasonable trigger that makes it do so. Ive tried it on my white wired keyboard, white bluetooth keyboard and aluminum wired keyboard they all go into this continuous loop. This problem even happens if there is no keyboard plugged in.
(you have no idea how hard it was too search through sites and post this with this problem =D)

You're not the only one seeing this.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, just upgraded to 10.5.2 and the repeating keys problem just appeared.
Apple posted a firmware update for Macbooks, but I'm a bit wary of applying updates willy nilly when it appears the problem is not confined to my hardware, lending weight to the theory that it's not an issue related to MacBooks.

In addition, I have gone thru all the recommended checks with universal access and have booted from snow leopard dvd and the left arrow still does not work.
I have tried using the left arrow key in all of applications I use such as: excel, ms word, address book, calendar, iphoto, terminal, & highlighting an icon and using the arrows to move to another selected icon.
Here is the kicker! In addition, I purchased a logitech solar bluetooth keyboard and the arrows work fine with my ipad but do not work when paired with the macbook pro. All other keys work fine on the macbook pro using the bluetooth keyboard.
I believe this says that the problem is not in my macbook pro keyboard. So where can it be?
Can anyone think of any other rabbit holes I can search?

I would also like to add that I've reverted the two cd drive and hard drive mods I did and the laptop is back to factory hardware and there is 0 corrosion or mold visible.

[SOLVED] MSI GT70 keyboard buttons not working

Hi! I am a normal user of computers that like games, so I bought this awesome notebook MSI GT70 i7 16gb ram GTX 675MX 128ssd+750hdd, with a keyboard by steelseries.
Everything was ok, using the notebook as came when I bought, with OS windows 8, with no format nor modifications by me, using it since January 2013.
The problem is that about 1 or 2 weeks some shortcuts of keyboard arent working anymore:
- Wifi button isn't working and isn't becoming orange when pressed, and Fn+F8 isn't working either;
- Screen shutdown button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
- Cd-dvd eject button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
- I tried also Fn+F9 and Fn+F12 shortcuts, and I think they arent working either.
At the same time, the Cooler button and the Backlight's Keyboard button are working correctly. Turbo button maybe is working too but I don't know if something become overclock when I activate it.
I would really appreciate some help, since I love my notebook very much, and I hope it's not a hard problem to solve.

I followed your advice:
1. uninstalled SCM, restarted
2. installed SCM, restarted
3. tried to update .net framework, had it already
4. resat the EC
But unfortunately it did not change my GE60 2OC's behaviour: when i press the back-light button it opens my browser with dragoonarmy/msi.com>/ BUT NO LIGHT.
Do anybody have a suggestion to solve this??

I do not see ANY of the new features claimed for Firefox 4, and moving the home button all the way to the right is very inconvenient. So what's so great?

I have used (and liked) Firefox from the first time it was offered. I
typically upgrade to newer versions as they come out. Sometimes
the newer version doesn't differ markedly from the previous one, but, until now, they were not usually a step backward. Upon installing Firefox 4 the welcome page indicated several new features. Specifically an app bar, and a bookmark button next to the home button. However neither of these features are on my copy of the program. Frankly, the only change that I see is the new position of the home button; and I don't like it. Moving the home button all the way across the page from the other commonly used buttons makes absolutely no sense to me, especially if the touted bookmark button doesn't exist. The new speed, if it continues, is nice, but other than that I see no real improvement over Firefox 3. So what's so great?

The new interface is only default on Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it on Windows XP you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.

Colors in Photoshop all wrong but OK in other apps. (For example "Whites appear yellow.")

Q: The colors in Photoshop are all wrong. They have a neon look or are discolored with a blue, red, green or Yellow cast. I look at the same pictures in other applications and they look just fine. How do I fix this?
A: Recalibrate your monitor using Adobe Gamma (OS9) or the Displays Control in System Preferences (OSX). Photoshop uses your monitor profile to display your images other apps don't. Be sure you start the recalibration using a fresh monitor profile (sRGB or the profile that came with your monitor for example). If you try to recalibrate using the old corrupt profile you will still have a corrupt monitor profile and your color will still be bad. Also, if you are using OS 9 make sure you are using ColorSync 3.0.4. The 3.0.4 patch is available on the Apple web site.

Thanks. But it looks like in all my frustration, I wasn't sure my original call for help had posted, so must have submitted the same question again.
But I just had a new thought on the problem. While reviewing a story I received from another website, I noticed that the photos attached to the article looked a lot like what I described in my message. It made me wonder if I have a software problem at all . . . or if it's the screen on my Mac that needs recalibration!
It only took 2 minutes to find a website that discussed it — with sample screens to help determine if that was what I'm dealing with. Since a screen supposedly showing a mix of numbered, grey boxes looked totally white to me and I could only see the white numbers on a screen that supposedly contained boxes in varying shades of black, I think I might be on the right track. Just not sure, since I had to reach the bottom of the page before spotting the pitch for a product that supposedly will recalibrate for me. I'm not sure I want to tackle recalibration on my own, but may call the Mac Geniuses at our local mall and see if my hunch is right . . .and if so, what they would charge to do it for me.
BTW, if it sounds like a calibration problem, do you think moving my computer from one desk top another (just 5 feet away) could have caused it? I'm not sure, since it wasn't on my mind at the time, but I think that's roughly when I first started to notice discrepancies in color.

IDVD 6 Chapter Menu Buttons all leading to 1st Chapter/New problem.

I've got a pressing issue never previously encountered. iDVD 6 Chapter Menu Buttons all leading to 1st Chapter! I've tried reloading the iMovie file after checking chapter markers. The problem has persisted. This is due to client tomorrow. I've been trying to understand the problem since yesterday, but a workaround solution is acceptable now. Please respond soon. Were your chapter markers placed in accord with: Setting chapter markers at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/6.0/en/imv1110.html ?
It reads in part: IMPORTANT: You cannot add a chapter marker to the very beginning or end of your movie. (iMovie HD automatically adds an initial chapter marker at the beginning of a movie.) It's also a good idea not to add a chapter marker within a transition, or within one second of a transition or other chapter marker. If you do so, other applications may have trouble recognizing the chapter markers.

Special keyboard buttons not working

Hello, everybody
I have got a HP G62 notebook and some of the "special" keyboard buttons are not working ( in other words, nothing changes ).
For example:
- display chooser button ( i.e., either just the laptop, either the projector, either both, etc. )
- sound on/off button
Anyone had any experience with this ?

While the keyboard binding part might not be that hard, I am stuck with figuring out how and what to get for the VGA and HDMI port switching ( see below ).

I am running 10.8 and I am trying to get a E-mu 1x1 midi/usb connector to work with my keyboards. It's not working with any keyboard at all. I believe it is a Mainstage/Mac issue. Mainstage can recognize the the interface but it won't work.

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing. The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as). The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue). However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens. It will not change to highlight that user.

LOve Firefox but it's annoying that if I'm using a search engine (I use lots of subscription legal search databases), when I press the back button all the data I entered in the search boxes has disappeared. I'm sure Firefox didn't use to do that?
