Keyboard Connection Lost

I use an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (and cinema display) with my MBP at home. Lately, while I'm working, if the keyboard is unattended for a bit, it disconnects. A message ("Connection Lost", with a picture of the keyboard) displays briefly. A few key presses and a little patience are necessary to reestablish the connection (which is accompanied by a brief status message again). Why is this happening? And how can I make it stop? (I haven't been able to find any log entries generated by this behavior.)

Just as a follow-up: I tried the suggested re-creation of the .plist file and re-setup of the BT keyboard; those ideas didn't work. Meanwhile, I've found this link: http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1491345&start=90&tstart=0
What's suggested toward the end of that fairly long thread is that there is a hardware problem in the battery compartment that causes a loss of continuity in the battery power circuit. This problem is solved by putting a small ball of aluminum foil into the battery compartment before putting in the batteries. I'm going to try that and will report here later on whether it works. Just in case anyone else encounters this problem. . . .

  • Wireless Apple Keyboard connection lost message

I couldn't find a better place to post this so I am just posting here. On my Mac Mini connected to my TV I have a bluetooth wireless apple keyboard. Works great except when watching a movie and the keyboard goes to sleep. I get this connection lost message on the screen that keeps coming up at various times. Is there a way to disable that message so the movie isn't interrupted with that message flashing up on the screen?

Interesting, mine were at 68% so I've just changed them, will report back here if that's helped.
But it's worrying if it is the answer since this update is supposed to help save battery power!
I don't really want to keep on changing my batteries when they are still well over half full. I'm keen to know if you still get the problem in the next few days.
One interesting point, I allow my keyboard to wake my mac from sleep. I find that if I sleep my mac, within a minute or so it wakes again and immediately shows the keyboard disconnect pop-up. So what I think is happening is the bluetooth control inside the keyboard is turning off transmit and back on again.
I'm going to ask Apple how to roll-back the update.
Let me know if you start to get disconnected again, I'll do likewise.

  • Wireless keyboard: "Connection Lost" all the time. Super annoying.

I have one of the fancy new bluetooth wireless aluminum keyboards (MB167LL/A) and it throws up the ghostly "Connection lost" popup every ten minutes, sometimes more frequently. The new MBP that it's connected to is about 3 feet away.
Is there a way to stop this? It's driving me nuts.

Not as of yet that I have found???

  • Wireless keyboard connection lost

I have purchased a brand new Mac Pro with wireless keyboard and mouse. The connection is constantly lost between the keyboard/mouse and the computer. At times it is only lost for a second or two, however at other times I have to shutoff the keyboard/mouse and turn it on again to be able to use it. All the lost connections seem random. The batteries are at maximum and the keyboard/mouse is within a couple of feet from the computer. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Sorry, no suggestions, but I'm having the same problem with the wireless keyboard. It happens several times/day even when batteries are fully charged. Turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on seems to fix it temporarily, but it is disruptive.

  • Wireless keyboard connection lost/intermittant

Yesterday, while working, my keyboard lost connection as a message saying so appeared on screen. This was momentary and it seemed to regain connection. This is a new keyboard on the new intel iMac. This morning I could not log in and then the icon appeared telling me I lost connection again. I tried changing batteries, even though the ones in the keyboard are new. I ended up getting a connection with the original batteries while taking them in and out, and as the little light on keyboard appeared. Is this a defect with the way the batteries are resting in the keyboard. The metal screw on end of battery compartment screws snug and can not be made tighter. Has anyone had the same problem. I may have been having this same problem all along for the last month, as once in a while I am unable to log in because nothing happens when I type. I thought the computer was still booting somehow, but now I'm thinking that the keyboard has been struggling to find connectivity. When this happened this morning though, it did tell me with the icon that I lost connection.

This sounds good and a way to save me if I'm unable to log in (I hadn't thought of just connecting my old usb k/b and mouse). The "PRAM" & "SMC" I assume were set automatically for me when I set the new computer up last month. I would have to do some 'figuring out' to reset these and delete from BT, whatever that is. Is that a place where I would delete the current wireless k/b and mouse configuration that is giving me problems? (I'll also try new batteries.)

  • Wireless Keyboard and Mouse connection lost when computer wakes up

Every time my computer wakes up I get the message "Connection Lost" referring to the mouse (Mighty Mouse) and keyboard. I have to wait a couple of seconds for them to start working. I tried to remove them from the list of Bluetooth devices and then pair them again, but had no success. It's pretty annoying to have this happening everytime the computer wakes up.
Is anybody else experiencing this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    richard

I have this issue as well, and havn't found a sufficient answer on the forums as of yet.
I can pair my mouse every day, and it will work fine, until I leave it at night when my computer shuts down. When I return in the morning I have no mouse, and have to go back to the bluetooth setup wizard and re-pair the mouse by turning it off then on again. I can't even just come in and turn the mouse off and on and have it work. I have to actually go through the setup wizard.
I CAN however, go to the bluetooth preferences, click on the mouse, and choose "connect" when it is turned off, then turn it on and it will connect without having to re-pair, but this is just as tedious and annoying as the whole setup process.
It's so annoying to have to have a wired mouse plugged in just so I can pair my wireless mouse every morning. Kind of defeats the purpose of a wireless mouse.
When I orginally bought the mouse and keyboard I had to return the original mouse because it wouldn't hold a connection even when I was using it. Obviously these wireless mice of Apple's need some more TLC in the engineering dept.

  • Connection Lost with keyboard

My PPC iMac G5 keeps saying "connection lost" with a keyboard displayed. The keyboard has new batteries, is paired, and connected. When this occurs no key on the keyboard will work. I can occasionally go to a text editor and get keys to work and then it's OK for a couple of minutes, then "connection lost" again. Does anyone have any thought as to what the problem might be?

    Same problem here..
    I have a Imac 27 also, OSX 10.6.7
The imac is about a year old..
Everything worked perfektly untill the FIRST BATTERY CHANGE.. (about 5 months after imac was bought )
the keyboard and the magic mouse is making a really hard time for me to do my work...
however, i had this issue for a while now, and apple dont wanna do anything about it..
butthe stranges thing is that,.. for about 3 months ago the magic mousestop doing the connection lost thingi..and works perfectly as normal..(strange)
and now only the keyboard is doing it  (batteries in keyboard and mouse allways 100% when i talk about this issue)
so.. bougth an Imac.. everything worked fine.. after 5 months keyboard and mouse starting to flipout..
and about 4 months after that the mouse is fine but keyboard is till flipping out! ( without me making any changes )
Still apple dont seem to care about this...
However i recomend "The Lightbulb conspirisey" - Docymentry film.
It is clear to me that apple is still using PLANED OBSOLESENS in there products,,
and they have no intrest in making sustainable products...
Making economic profit is way more relevent on apples agenda then making sustainable products..
I thought i was paying alot of EXTRA money for the apple products to get the perfection i need..
But noo, they are just masking the usual "PLANED OBSOLESENS" wich is a KEY ingrediens for expanding industries.
And i am very sad that apple dont give a F**** about atcually caring about people. rather then screwing them over...

  • "Connection Lost" on Wireless Keyboard

I'm using my brand new Mac Pro with Leopard and an Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. However, frequently the keyboard is unresponsive and I see a "Connection Lost" icon appear on the screen. My keyboard is literally a foot away from the Mac Pro. How can I prevent the connection from continually getting "lost"?

several folks here have expressed the same problem. I know I did; see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5607804#5607804. It appears that the internal BT module does not work well.
Once I added the dongle, communications problems while the unit is on went away. The only problem remaining, which is kind of a PITA, is that the unit and the wireless devices need to be re-paired on startup. If I put the mac to sleep, the pairing is OK.

  • Trackpad & Connection Lost Issue

I'm not sure whether this post belongs in the connectivity area or this one, but since I'm not trying to connect anything I think it belongs here. My laptop started to concern me today as my trackpad started to act up. I have been experiencing episodes where the trackpad pretty much shuts down. I can still move the cursor with it, but I cant click on anything on the screen. I can still use the keyboard to do commands in MacOS so its not my computer freezing. It can last for anywhere in between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. It is fixed automatically by the screen showing the picture of a mouse and saying connection lost like there is a wireless mouse trying to connect to the laptop. There are no wireless devices, anyone know whats going on?

First of all I'd make sure that bluetooth is turned off (use System preferences/Bluetooth to do this). It may be that a nearby bluetooth capable device (like many mobile phones) is causing interference.
If this doesn't fix it try a PRAM reset. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If this doesn't fix it , then try an SMC reset http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
If still no joy its is possible that a hardware issue is involved.
    Cheers

  • LLost keyboard connection

My G5 iMac wireless (white plastic)bluetooth keyboard suddenly lost connection. tried new batteries and restarting but still not found. Wireless mouse ok but cannot type anything to open. Any ideas

    Hello f:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
If that does not help, go to system preferences>bluetooth. Delete the keyboard. Restart. The BT setup assistant should begin to locate the KB, pair, and then connect.

  • Lossing keyboard connection repeatedly with Mac

Heads up; If you keep lossing a keyboard connection, try replacing your rechargeable batteries. The System Preferences said the batteries were at 100% but the wireless connection would be lost and reconnecting every 30 seconds or so.

    Great tip David, thanks!

  • Bluetooth connection lost after wakeup ( CSR - bc4 )

    hi
after wakeup, my aluminium keyboard cannot connect anymore to my macbook pro. when i go to systempreferences/bluetooth i can see the bluetooth's host name is CSR - bc4 (???). when i turn bluetooth off and on again the hostname does set correctly to the name of my macbook-pro. after the restart of the bluetooth-service my keyboard works like a charm.
    any suggestions?
    greetings from switzerland

I am having the same problem.
If I use the new aluminium wireless keyboard (with my existing wireless mighty mouse) neither the mouse nor the keyboard reconnect to the computer on waking from sleep - it does announce that I have lost the bluetooth connection but tapping/clicking/waiting doesn't facilitate reconnection.
If I send the iMac to sleep again (using the power button - the only way I have to get any signal to my machine at this point - I haven't tried Morse Code yet) it does then recognise the peripherals on waking the second time.
I have also noticed that if I turn the mouse and keyboard off causing the "connection lost" warning and then put the machine to sleep, everything does reconnect on waking (switching them back on of course).
I have it set not to wake from sleep using bluetooth devices, so that I can tidy my mouse/keyboard away without disturbing the mac. Using my old white wireless keyboard (but the same Mighty Mouse) it works beautifully again as it always did in Tiger with only a minimal delay on waking from sleep before reconnecting automatically.
The aluminium keyboard is beautiful. But we need a fix - anyone? Is it a hardware problem? A set of dud keyboards? Has anyone found that a different aluminium wireless keyboard does work with the same setup? Or that their troublemaking keyboard does work on other machines?

  • I am receiving an error of Platform version 1.9.2.13 is not compatable with minversion =1.9.2.14 Maxversion = 1.9.2.14. Also while on it it said connection lost.

While I was using mozilla at night it said connection lost and I was unable to log back on. I had to rest my modem and router to get a connection. This morning I got an error message and mozilla won't open. Do I remove firefox from my computer and reload? or what.?

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • Motorola v262 connection lost

The v262 is essentially the same as the v265 but does not have the camera. I have done a modification to the plist file here http://www.lowendmac.com/macdan/05/0801.html to duplicate the v265 profile and change it to v262. iSync sees my phone. However, when I go press Sync in iSync, I get the following error:
The connection was lost while getting the changes from the device.
    Device "V262" synchronization failed
I've read through various forums on the web and here at Apple and I have been unable to fix my problem.
My service provider is Telus, and I am using a Motorola SKN6311C cable
    Thanks,
