The keyboard doesn't seem to work while installing windows. It tells me to press enter but my keyboard doesn't respond. What's going on?

Sadly, I don't know and you should not have to buy another KB just to install Windows. Can you borrow one? If there is an Apple or other store nearby, maybe you could test one before buying it. Actually, you most likely will only need it during the install, but it would be good to have in case you wished to reinstall it. There are some really cheap KBs out there - - $10 or so, but unless you can actually try before buy, I would suggest borrowing one.
There might be a workaround that I recall reading here - - when you get to the point where you need the KB and lose it, unplug it, wait a few minutes and then plug it back in. It might just get re-recognized that way.

  • Keyboard issues while installing Windows XP with Bootcamp

    Hi there,
I am running bootcamp and when I am starting to install Windows XP I can't actually move into the setup because the keyboard won't work. Is there anyone who found a solution?
    Thanks.

Same problem..........went back to the old keyboard and everything installed and worked fine in OS X and win-XP. swapping in the new alum keyboard the option key doesn't work during the boot select. once the machine boots to the default OS either mac or windows everything works in that OS.
Something I noticed: during the boot select.... the old keyboard gets power immediately, mouse lights up - keyboard cap-lock light is on. with the new alum keyboard the mouse and cap-lock light do not light until the default OS starts to boot with no boot select in between.
Looks like a boot camp setup doesn't know about the new keyboard even though it is recoginized by drivers in the two OS's. anyone know who to call for help at Apple?

  • My iMac loses connection to the keyboard/mouse while installing Windows 7 on Bootcamp

I have used bootcamp assistant to install windows 7 on my brand new iMac.  I used a flash stick to install the Windows OS.
When I rebooted the system, the iMac gave me an error message that it couldn't find a bootable disk and it asked for a bootable disk to be connected and to press any key.  I did press a key, but it did not respond.  I found later that both my usb keyboard and usb mouse don't have power.
I manually restarted and used pressed the option key to select the flash stick as my bootable device.  It loaded and started to boot and load windows to the point it presented me with a screen to select the language etc.  They key board and mouse seesed to work. I couldnt type nor move the mouse.
I tried again using the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse but I got the same problem.
Is my iMac broken?  Or did I do something wrong.
I have installed the latest version of mavericks and installed all the updates.
    Please help.
    Thanks.
    Tareq

I called the local seller who sold me the iMac regarding this problem.  He confirmed that they had many problems with the latest iMac (Late 2013) Windows 7 installation and recommended that I install Windows 8 instead.
I am not excited about Windows 8 as I need to buy a new license and get used to a new interface.
I downloaded a fresh copy of Windows 8 (without a license of course) just to test that.  I repeated the who process.  I am glad to report that I was able to get past the first screen to select language and local setting and was able to use the mouse and keyboard.  I stopped on the second screen where it prompted me to enter the license number.
My concern is that I go and buy a Windows 8 license to find that it will not install as well.  Any suggestions?
Why Can't I install Windows 7 on this iMac (latest 2013)?  Has anyone else face the same problem?  is there any solution?
    Any ideas?

  • MORE keyboard issues while installing XP

    Hi Guys,
Ok, I made a partition on my harddrive...no sweat. Put the disk in and restarted...
I arrived at a screen that said something like:
    Do you want to:
    (a)install from the CD
    (b)Install from a SCSI drive
and it asked me to select...problem is that none of the keys or mouse on my MBP were working....
Anyone got any ideas? I restarted and held the option Key, and it restarted in MAC OSX....
    ...I'm stumped.

  • Keyboard not responding while installing Windows XP sevice pack 2

    Hi,
I am new to macworld, Just got Macbook and try to use bootcamp to install windows xp, but keyboard did not respond hence got stuck at this point. Please help me. how to make keyboard working while installing windows xp using bootcamp. I know that for non-portable Mac USB mouse and keyboard can be used but whats need to be done for portable Mac like Macbook

I have been scouring the internet on my limited dial-up connection trying to find someone who had a definitive solution to this problem which I too have been stuck with.
What finally resolved this keyboard problem during that critical stage in the win xp setup was by:
    1. Going to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse and check-marking "USE ALL F1, F2 ETC. KEYS AS STANDARD FUNCTION KEYS (when this option is selected, press the Fn key to use the special features printed on each key)" Before starting up Boot Camp,
    2. and Unplugging the Mighty Mouse from the keyboard while my mac was rebooting.
Switching out the apple keyboard for a standard USB keyboard did not work (perhaps in hindsight, i should have plugged it in first before boot camp rebooted and tried to install win xp;)
    Attempting time after time again did not solve the issue;
    Neither did doing all the software updates, firmware updates and such while borrowing an ethernet cable connection from my local library;
    I did not need to find another Win XP with SP2 nor did I need to find a USB keyboard;
Not even updating my Mac OS X from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 or installing the new firmwares for the Apple aluminium keyboard was necessary it seems.
Just a simple checkmark to make the apple keyboard's F-keys primary and unplugging the Mouse from the keyboard before the WinXP install kicked in, allowed me to press Enter to proceed with the installation.
I also turned off the special functions of the mighty mouse like the center click and roll ball, but I felt obligated to post the solution to this problem - Do as you would be done by.
Hope this helps others who encounter this same problem, please confirm if I am correct. Good luck.

  • Error while installing 10.4.9 - now it won't shut down or restart!

okay. I think there are more than "just a few dozens" experiencing this problem with the 10.4.9 update. My co-worker just updated her powerbook, now it will not shutdown or restart. Mail crashes immediately upon opening. Same with Safari. For some reason Microsoft Office does not crash (thank goodness). Here is one of the error reports, can you help me fix her problem in any way? Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of some filesystem corruption that should have been fixed first, or not having installed the update properly (e.g. applications running while installing it), or having ignored Apple’s “Important: Please read before installing” warnings, etc.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update using the combo installer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
If you cannot do this by normal means, but have an external HD with Mac OS X 10.4 installed from which to boot your Mac, or have access to another Mac with Mac OS X 10.4 installed and with a FireWire port to which connect your Mac in Target Disk Mode, you may be able to fix the problem by starting up that way, verifying/repairing the disk, then reinstalling the combo update (on the disk that doesn’t boot, not on the disk from which you’re booting to do this).
If the problem persists, you’ll have to consider doing an Archive and Install, but make sure first that all the filesystem issues, if any, have been fixed, that you have enough space available on disk, and that all your data has been backed up (which again you can do connecting your Mac in Target Disk Mode to another Mac if you cannot do it by other means).

  • IPod touch won't charge while installed in vehicle through direct interface

    Hello,
This just began happening about two weeks ago. The touch won't charge while installed in the car directly through the interface. I have tried three different set-ups so I know it is not the iPod cable or stereo. It seems to charge and hold said charge fine through wall plug or CP but while in the car it only seems to charge enough to continue playing and then when the car is off, it acts as though it is no longer connected and dies so when I start the car the next time, I have to wait for the unit to charge enough to play...
Oh and it is a 1st gen 8gb touch.
Is this the battery or a hardware issue with the touch itself?
    Thanks for any help...
    Nick

I have the same problem with my Audi and started when I installed the 3.0 update. Besides I can't use the Hi Fi Apple device, which I bought 3 years ago. I'm sure the update didn't take in considerations old interfaces and the HiFi.

    2. Safari and Other Apps Like AppStore freez sometimes, and i need to force quit everytime, because its not           responding.
    3. Bootcamp Windows 8.1 <---- NOT 8 Support (Bad Keyboard- Facetime camera- drivers,
Icons (brightness, sound) are ugly on retina screen) + GPU Drivers i can't update (maybe that's normal).

  • Keyboard dies when waking from sleep

On my MacBook Pro 15" SR, when I wake from sleep sometimes they keyboard isn't working. The trackpad works, but the keyboard seems completely dead. Not even the NumLock or capslock keys light up. This is sometimes rectified by putting the computer to sleep and waking it up again, but often the keyboard dies a few minutes after I wake the computer. Also, connecting an external USB (Apple Aluminum Keyboard) keyboard doesn't work either. The same situation happens.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm having exactly this issue. I have a 15" MacBook Pro SR as well. It's happened four or five times since I installed Leopard yesterday. The trackpad works but the keyboard is completely dead. Also, choosing "Restart..." from the Apple menu doesn't work, as other apps fail to quit and (if I quit them with the trackpad) I get an error that the finder has failed to quit. As with JGB5, this happens after the MBP wakes from sleep -- sometimes resleeping/reawakening it fixes it, but sometimes the keyboard dies a couple of minutes afterwards anyway, and a restart is required.

  • Errors while installing ESXi 6.0 on a Workstation VM

    Hello!
Got errors while install ESXi 6.0 (using VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0-2494585.x86_64.iso) on Workstation 11.1.0 VM. The VM for ESXi was created almost with the default settings. The screen with errors is attached. When the pop-up is on the screen caps-lock light on the keyboard of my physical PC also turns on. What a magic? The same issue was observed on a different PC with Workstation 10.0.4 (cpu has been disabled pop-up and caps turned on). In some cases I get a lot of consequtive errors without pop-up and installation process hangs. Earlier ESXi 5.5 was installed and worked well on the same PC (RAM, CPU, MB, etc have no bugs). What to do?

    Hello!
Just successfully installed the hypervisor on a VM. The system requirements of ESXi 6 for RAM is minimum 4Gb as stated in the setup guide. Previously I created VM with 3 (or 2) Gb of RAM for my test purposes. And setup process was unsuccessful. When I try using VM with 4Gb, all became fine. Does the installer check the available RAM and go mad if it finds all but without a single byte? If it does why not to warn during setup as vCenter Server installer does? The VM log is attached to make things clear. Thanks for help.

  • Error while installing OWB

    Error while installing OWB
    after 50% install.. it says
"Error in writing to file c:\oracle\ora9201\bin\oci.dll
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
Apparently I have restarted the workstation and closed all oracle related services in services and no other program is running expect the installer.
Can any one help in resolving the issue. Or can I hit the ignore button and continue installing?

Always install OWB into a new ORACLE_HOME unless the Installation and Configuration Guide states otherwise. This has only happened twice. OWB 9.0.2.62.3 was the last version to allow installation into an existing ORACLE_HOME. Another thing you can do is go to www.sysinternals.com and download the utility LISTDLLs. It is great. From a command prompt, start it with the syntax: listdlls >log.txt
This will output the DLLs in use and which executable is using it. Search for the DLL in the log.txt and scroll up until the double line. The executable name locking the DLL will be above the double line. If you have the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service running on the client, it will lock Oracle DLLs. This has been a common issue in the past, going back to the days of Data Mart Suite. This was documented in the Release Notes for it and may still be in the system in a note somewhere. It is in: DMS: Unable To Install; Filesopen/Service Running On Compaq Server Doc ID: Note:1080977.6 and Certain Files which need to be Reinstalled are Being Used Doc ID: Note:117672.1
The first note I wrote back before 2000.
