Keyboard doesn't light in the initial log-in screen

Hello, I have a MacBook Pro with retina display (late 2013), and since I installed Yosemite my keyboard when I'm in the log-in screen stays off.
Also pressing the keys to enhance lighting nothing happens ...
anyone can help me to bring back my keyboard light even when the screen log in?
thanks

Hello fabrizio888,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with system issues. You may want to consider a PRAM reset which may address the keyboard lighting issue you've described:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
If your Mac doesn’t seem to be remembering your speaker volume, display resolution, or the disk it should be using during startup, you may need to reset your computer’s PRAM.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Important:    To print these instructions, click the Share button  in the Help window, then choose Print.
Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

    Hello,
I recommend you contact AT&T's dedicated BB Support staff (call their front line, request escalation to BB Support) and have them check to be sure that your account with them is correctly configured for this device. Sometimes when switching devices things don't fully automatically move behind the scenes, and only they (ATT) can validate that.

  • I recently got a used macbook pro, and the backlight on the keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I was wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed..

MacBook pro keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I don't know why and I was wondering how much it could cost for repairs.

If there is Warranty or AppleCare it will be covered at Apple Store. If no coverage, Apple does not repair iPhone 4 Power/Lock Button, for $149 they will give you a perfect replacement iPhone 4 exactly like yours with a 90 day Warranty. For the time being or as a permanent solution you can use perfect Virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap the new small white screen button > Device > Lock. You can even use this button to turn the iPhone OFF. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, ie charger or USB port of computer.

had the same problem and it worked!

  • My keyboard doesn't work from the login screen, but when I login as a guest user it works fine (minus the brightness buttons, playback buttons, etc.).

I've already switched out the batteries and the keyboard works fine, so I fear it might be some sort of bug? All the methods of restarting or resetting certain settings can only be done from the login screen or from within an account, when the keyboard doesn't work, and the guest options are limited to non existent.

Try doing a SMC reset, you may need to do this 2-3 times as sometimes the reset doesn't always "take" the first time. To do a SMC reset, shut down the computer, unplug the power cord from the wall and computer, wait 15-20 seconds and restart normally and test. If after 2-3 resets it still does not work test another keyboard. If that keyboard works then this indicates your keyboard has failed and needs to be replaced.

    Dear fellow Apple owners,
Is it normal that, when I try to share something on my iphone 5, be it via e-mail or textmessage, my keyboard is no longer touching the bottom of my screen, it 'floats' in the middle of my screen, making it impossible to choose the addressee?

    Has anybody seen this before?
    I had it in 6.1.2, 6.1.3 and 6.1.4
All of them have the same problem...
    Does anybody have a solution?

    Hey StevenKusters,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! First I would try backing up and erasing all content and settings, but if that doesn't resolve the issue you can use iTunes to restore your iOS device - part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.

  • MacBook Pro w/10.6.8 requires me to sign in twice at initial log-in screen before loading

My MacBook Pro w/10.6.8 requires me to sign in twice at initial log-in screen before loading.. In addition, after Safari 5.1.7 has been open for a few hours the browser stops loading pages and then the entire computer  freezes and I have to do a forced reboot with the power button. The first push of the power button brings up the four options screen: "sleep, restart, turn off, logout" but they don't work. I have to force shutdown.
I don't have either of these problems from a safe boot. However a boot from a clean "Test" administrator account still requires me to login twice before the desktop loads.
If I login once as either Test or my User Name then choose the " back" button then switch to the other login option before pressig the return key, I only have to login in once at the new login screen.
This problem began after I partitioned my 500GB HD with a 10.6.8 partition--the problem partition-- and a Lion 10.7.4 partition (to avoid iCloud issues with Snow Leopard). The Lion partition does not require double login. I have not done anything yet with the Lion partition except software updates.
I have also been having LCD problems  (according to recent Genius Bar visit, not related to the NVIDIA 8300 problem). Sometimes (every 2-3 times I start the MBP) the MBP will reboot but the screen will be so dark I can't see the cursor and can barely see the desktop. The brightness is set at max and pressing the buttons up/down don't affect the dark screen. Usually I restart and the screen appears normal. This problem occurs with Safe, Test and User Name boots.
    Thanks for any suggestions

I have the same issue and eventually revirted to logging in web wise to emails and have found that its not so bad- but the moment app wants to access mail it slows down and have had had issues again.
I know that Mac products when accessing emails have a tendancey to semi download images- and was told that this can be the issue by a friend( not sure how rellable this is) but have noticed a coralation between the two factors.
I know that there are issues with hotmail when on certain devices ( had the warning form hotmail's site)- but still have yet to be shown how to remove my email from Mail- if yo have any ideas I might try it.
Please if you have any advice of how to remove main email that would be great and it may be a  option for you.

  • Mac air keyboard doesn't light up for login

After Yosemite install, the keyboard on my Mac Air does not light up until after I login.

    Pushkin,
I found that if I turn on FileVault my keyboard backlight doesn't come on at initial Login screen from boot. Nor can I adjust the brightness of my screen or keyboard backlit. The moment I turn off FileVault I can then adjust those things and everything works fine.
I say initial because if I log out of my user and am taken to the login screen I can adjust both keyboard and screen backlights.
You can see if you have FileVault turned on by going to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> FileVault (Tab)
Also I think that its important that we let Apple know this is going on. If you feel up to it I would send them feedback. I mean if you would like to that is. https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
    Hope that helps,

  • Italian keyboard doesn't work under the gui

I have an italian keyboard on a x86 Solaris 10 installation.
All the patch available using Sun Update applied but the keyboard doesn't work, it still works only as a USA keyboard.
Forcing it as a Italian layout at startup (pressing esc and using the boot utility) make the keyboard work in the consolle with the correct layout but under the gui, after the dtlogin startup, the key doesn't work correctly. Every key is "shifted" of one position, so inserting "root" result in "eiir"
Even applyng the 118966-08 patch as suggested doesn't work.
Obiouvsly I used the gnome panel to set the correct keyboard under gnome but with no result
Both the two type of italian keyboards don't work, the standard one and the 104 "ibm" italian layout.
All this keyboards work fine on the same PC with both WindowsXP and Linux Ubuntu.
Any suggestion to fix this ?

The solution was to reconfigure the X-Server: In a console-window I called kdmconfig and corrected the keyboard settings: it was a US-Keyboard. Nobody knows ... At installation time I configured a german keyboard.
A remaining problem is that my mouse and keyboard are connected via USB and they are frozzen after boot. First when I physicaly detach both and reconnect them they start working in an ordinary manner. I saw a forum entry which talked about BIOS-settings.

  • Blackberry 8330 keyboard doesn't work for the 2nd time

Hi, this is the second time that this has happened to me. The first time, I had finished a text message, and left it on my bed, only to come back an hour later, and the entire keyboard didn't work. The only thing that worked was the trackball, but it could only move around; I wasn't able to click it or anything. After many battery pulls, I looked online, and saw that I could try to reload the OS using application loader. I did that, but I was left with the same error. I eventually ended up having to go to the store, and as I was still under warranty, got them to replace it for me. All in all, a huge hassle. Lo and behold, two months later, the same issue is back. I've tried the battery pulls, and reloading the OS, but nothing seems to work! Any ideas? I don't want to have to keep going back to the store to replace it.

I have the same problem on My Blackberry 8310 Curve..

  • The initial or second screen in Swing launch

On SDK 2, when swing launches the first screen that appears is a blank one until it is filled by the second screen, the "Episode 2" screen, which disappears and the frame is resized by the third and actual Swing app being painted-- the initial Internal Frames tab and icons popping down the tool bar.
    My question is this:
How can I avoid the initial blank screen --the one BEFORE the screen of Episode 2 shows?
And moving on, how is the second screen --the "Episode 2" screen created and then uncreated?
    I'm very curious about this

You're right, my Swing application does open that way, except that the period where the blank grey screen (my choice of colour) appears is less than half a second, so I never noticed it before. That may be because the blank white screen catches your attention more than a blank grey screen.
Anyway, I looked at the source for the SwingSet2 demo and it appears that the relevant code must be inside the show() method of JFrame, since that's the only method called. Unfortunate, that. (If you want to know how the splash screen business is done, you could look in the source, it's in the directory "src" below where the jar file is.)
    Try
frame.setBackground(Color.lightGray);If nothing else, you may find it less annoying.

  • My keyboard keeps popping up in the middle of my screen instead of the bottom u keyboard keeps popping up in the middle of my screen instead of the bottom.  How can I get back to appear at the bottom of my screen?

My keyboard keeps popping up in he middle of my screen instead of at the bottom.  How can I fix this?

Press and hold the 'keyboard' key at the bottom right of the keyboard and after a second or so you should get a popup - slide your finger up to 'Dock' on that popup and remove your finger from the screen and the keyboard should move back to the bottom of the screen.
You can also turn off the ability to undock and split the keyboard into two halves via Settings > General > Keyboard > Split Keyboard 'off'

  • My keyboard doesn't work well : the letters don't appears

    Hello,
I have a problem with my IMac bluetooth keyboard.
No one of my keyboard letters work once the system has booted.
(if I boot in safe mode, all letters are working)
To access to the keyboard configuration, as I have a password, I tried to delete it with these commands :
    fsck -fy
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
Now, each time I boot my Imac it launchs a first use configuration asking me language, country...
And when it arrives to the keyboard's config, it only propose me 6 languages (the 6 ones looks like to chinese)
Anyone I choose, it returns at each time to the beginning of the config.
Can someone give me an advice ?
Is it possible that a virus do this ?
Thanks a lot ! (excuse my english mistakes)

Boot in single-user mode as you did before and restore the file you unfortunately deleted:
    touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You must get this exactly right or it won't work. You should then be able to boot in safe mode and log in.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in safe mode.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    for k in {,/S*}/L*/E*/{,.?}*.kext; do test -f "$k/Contents/Info.plist" && /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print :CFBundleIdentifier" "$_" | egrep -qv "apple|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|CalDigit|HighPoint|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID|stex" && echo $k; done | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook;; sudo crontab -l; }  2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    Repeat with this line:
    { crontab -l; ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la*; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 4
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, Steps 1-4 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.
