Keyboard dropping first letter

My apples is starting to drop the first letter of everything I type no matter what I am in. If I go back then restart my typing it is ok. but the first letter is always missing when I begin. What is going on? Heard about this on an outside forum, does anyone have an idea of where to begin. I have the 27" Mac on the Safari. Thanks for the help.

welcome to macbook forum,
I never had that problem, maybe the first stroke count as a wake up call to the application.
Try to move mouse or touch the pad before start typing.
Good Luck

  • Apple wireless keyboard misses first letter in some words

When I am typing, particularly in Word 2011, with my Apple Wireless Keyboard, it frequently does not type the first letter of a word.  I have searched and can find no resolution to this problem.  I have messed with Accessibility but that is all turned off.  The only other bluetooth device is my mouse.

    Hi,
Thanks for this. It isn't the computer though, as it will happen very quickly. For example I can type in a web address, then look up to read the web page for 20 seconds or so, then if I type again it will miss the first key stroke.
I am starting to get used to typing the first letter twice!
I can see that it is a widely reported issue with Apple Macs, but I can't find a fix for Windows. I am keen not to have to buy a new keyboard!

every wireless keyboard  I have purchased, to date 10 +... has   had  an issue of  repeating the  first  letter i enter every time it  is used...after the  first letter   there are no repeats.the problem  seemed to  have  stopped for  a while until the last  IOS8 update  and  now it is back.  a brand new  ipad retnina and  a new  keyboard. I tried new  batteries but it  did not    fix the  issue. Not  a problem   with the OEM internal  keyboard...

Other's have noted the problem as well. There is a longer thread at:

  • Wireless Keyboard Skips First Letter on PC - Windows

    Hi,
I have an apple keyboard that I use with my ipad. I am also trying to use it with my PC running windows 7. It works well, however if I haven't typed for a short while, even for a minute or so; it does not recognice the first letter of the first word. It is really annoying, any clues as to how I can fix it?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Can anyone help? When I enter the first letter into Google search box, keyboard drops away and I need to start again

find the Settings cog wheel top right.
touch the wheel, select Search Settings and select NEVER SHOW INSTANT RESULTS.
    Save.
    IT worked for me.

The new but not-ready-for-prime-time autocomplete method searches for matches that contain the entered text, not just ones that begin with the string. Your options are:
    1) type in longer strings that narrow the search
    2) use an add-on to search just the beginnings:

    3) install an older version of TB:

What do you mean there was "no effect?" I'm not aware of any effects.
It looks like that Service is also in the App Store. From their screen shots, the services are prefaced with WordService:
You can see an example in the App Store for their app: App Store
After installing, you should now have those text services in your Services menu. You can then add shortcuts in the Keyboard System Prefs.
Most Apple apps have a Transformations menu in the Edit menu. You can Make upper, lower, and Initial caps with those. I would stick with Word Services, but you can make Application Shortcuts for the items in the Transformations menu.
Again, in Keyboard System Prefs, Under Applications, Click the Add button on the right side pane.
    Set it for All Applications
Enter the menu command exactly as they appear in the Transformation menu (separate entries for each),
    Make Upper Case
    Make Lower Case
    Capitalize
    Give them a shortcut.

    Writelady,
I do not know of any such option. I don't think that it is even possible at this time, however it doesn't mean that maybe sometime in the future Apple or someone else will make a way to do such as your request.
I do however think that you should let Apple know your opinion if you have not done such yet. You can give them product feedback at the following link. https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
    I hope that this helps,

  • First letter doesn't type in a new field and keyboard cuts out

When I switch apps (ie from Firefox to iChat) and try to type in a field, the first letter doesn't show up. I will have to hit it twice to get it to show up then can type normally. On top of that, I get random problems where my keyboard will just stop working. I have to unplug it and replug it and it will be fine. What can I do about these issues?

  • LG enV3 First letter always defaults to lowercase when texting using the inside full keyboard

LG enV3 First letter always defaults to lowercase when texting using the inside full keyboard...yet works fine on outside keypad. I have the settings set up properly on the phone to Abc. Even if I change to all caps, it only affects the outside keypad on front of phone, and not the full inside keyboard when flipped open. SW version is VX920V02. I have tried resetting phone, yet did nothing.
    Any help is appreciated!

        Hi jjm12345!
Let's look into this! When did the issue begin? When you press shift, does the letter change to uppercase?

  • Keeps dropping the first letter erratically

The fix came out in February which fixed the annoying habit of this machine of dropping the first letter. Its not as bad but it still happens frequent enough to be **** annoying. I asked a buddy and he has noticed this little annoying quirk too.
From a prior Windoze user I do have to say Apple makes crappy products. Same manufacturer for the OS and the hardware and so many bugs.
Anyone know of a solution beyond the patch which came out in February 08 ?

I've got the same problem. It crops up intermittently, but for the past two weeks, it happens frequently.

  • I don't want the first letter of every line to be capitalized

When I try to put in user id's and passwords on web sites, I don't always want the first letter to be capitalized.  How do you make the Ipad stop doing this?

    Turn off Auto-Capitalization.

  • Getting the autocomplete setting to work by typing the first letter of a word

Before I installed Firefox 5.0, I had made it so that whenever I visited a website that remembered an account/password of mine, this happened:
1.- It asked for my master password.
2.- After entering it, I would click on the form field and then type in the FIRST LETTER of the account.
3.- When entering that exact first letter, Firefox would suggest in a drop-down menu the account or accounts that started with that letter on that particular site, e.g.: say I have a Twitter account that is "koko999". If I went to twitter.com and entered the letter "k" in the form field (after entering the master password), Firefox would suggest the account "koko999" in the drop-down menu.
4.- After selecting the account that I desired from the drop-down menu, Firefox would automatically autocomplete the password.
5.- Then, if I closed Firefox, all my active accounts would close/sign out. So, if afterwards I opened Firefox, I would have to repeat from Step 1 if I wanted to use an account, e.g.: if I closed FF while having my Twitter account logged in, and then opened FF again, I would have to start from Step 1.
Now, I had this setting for a bunch of different websites. After installing Firefox 5.0, this configuration vanished or something. Now, when entering the master password, Firefox autocompletes EVERYTHING. Say, using the example from before, that I go to twitter.com. Firefox asks for the master password, I enter it and then the ID/password for the twitter account automatically fills in without me entering any letter in the form field. And I do not want Firefox to do that!
So, I'm asking for help. I know that what I what to do is not impossible, I just can't find the way to do it! I kinda need the exact steps. Thanks a lot!

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_only_filled_after_entering_user_name
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/signon.autofillForms (false)
If you are in Private Browsing then Firefox wont fill the names and passwords automatically.
You can set the pref <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.privacy_level
You can also use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Active Logins" when you close Firefox.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • How do you change the first letter of a new line from uppercase to lowercase?

In filling in case sensitive id's and passwords, the iPad automatically capitalizes the first letter---how do you change to lower case?

You can shut off Auto Capitalization in the settings to prevent that from happening.  Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Auto Capitalization>Off.
You can change to lower case manually by tapping the "black X icon in the arrow" in the upper right corner of the keyboard to delete the capital letter and then type in the lower case letter.
