Keyboard froze today on my HP pc and on my Acer laptop. both run on Windows 8.1
Is anyone experiencing a freeze in their keyboard running on Windows 8.1 ? I not seeing a bug on the net that matches my symptoms : the mouse is working good and the PC seems fine but I cannot type anything and number 1 is lid up on the keyboard. Similar issue same day on my Windows 8.1 Acer laptop . I can type my password but as soon as I go to the Google toolbar to search there is no keyboard response at all...

I understand that you are having issues with Windows 8.1 on two different computers where you keyboard freezes up when you click on the Google Toolbar. I am providing you with a WinHelp document: Internet Explorer 11 Troubleshooting that I would like you to review and use to disable the Add-Ons in your browser. If this resolves your issue I would recommend that you uninstall your Add-Ons starting with the Google Toolbar until you find the one that is causing you grief.

To mostly repeat my question, I am a longtime Firefox user on both an XP laptop and a Vista desktop. So here I get the most "capable" computer of all, a Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop, 64-bit Windows 7, 4G RAM...and it won't run Firefox at all! I have installed an uninstalled both Firefox 3, and just now, Firefox 4. No changes. When I open the software, it usually just locks up for a minute or so, and I finally get a "not responding" message at the top of the screen.
Obviously there is something corrupt in the guts of my laptop. But both IE9 and Chrome work very well--Chrome is blazing fast. I still prefer Firefox because it works best with some particular software I use for work...but I have to go to one of my older computers to do it!
ANY solutions out there? This seems like a very odd problem.
Posting from the Firefox website...using Google Chrome!I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
Is Adobe PageMill 3.0 still available? I use it to run three websites but it does not run on my new desktop which has a 64-bit operating system. However it would run on my laptop which runs under Windows Vista. But the original installation was from floppy discs and I do not have a floppy disc drive.

I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010 and 2012 both running OS 10.8.5. Both using ATI Radeon HD 5770 1052 MB vid cards.
Using the standard Display that came with the Macs, everytime I'm working in Ilustrator CS5 or 6, the Document I am working on gets transparent, and I when I try to move a pallete or the Document itself, the pallet or doc leaves trails from where it was to where I moved it. The only way I can resolve it is to open the Display prefs, choose a lower res, then switch it back to the "Best for Display" option. This started happening on both machines after the 10.8.5 update. I have since gone through all the Pram and Board resets, even had Apple replace the Vid Card and nothing helps. Anybody have this issue. It only happens in Illustrator.Hi Marco@JustALittle,

I use my laptop for travel and want to be able to use my email address on both my PC and laptop. Can I sync both installations so I see all my folders relating to email on both machines ?

Almost every time I load any page containing a video and attempt to view it Firefox will crash and become totally unresponsive. It seems that the Adobe flash player add on is responsible but the crash protection feature does not function and the only way to recover is to terminate either the add on container process or Firefox using Task Manager

Disabling all or any of these does not help.I find that in this exact configuration that Firefox simply crashes with that crash window. I have Disabled ALL extensions and plugins, Firefox works. Then I install ONLY Flash 10.1.85.3 and Firefox 3.6.12 crashes, running on Windows 7.

How many licenses for desktop and laptop, both in dual-boot environment?

My scenario is pretty simple. I own a desktop PC and a Laptop, both running Windows XP and Windows 7 in a dual-boot environment. Let's say I want to have Adobe Photoshop on both machines, all four boots, how many licenses do I have to purchase?
Thank you.Hi, you can install Photoshop CS5 on as many computers as you want, but it can only be activated on up to two instances at a time.
So if you had a single license, you would have to choose which boots you'd want Photoshop running on, and then move the activation between them, if that worked for you.
With two licenses, you could activate and run it on all four boot instances at once, no problem... You wouldn't have to continually switch or change the activations between systems.
This is an improvement in flexibility on how it used to be - until recently, Adobe had a limit on how many cumulative reactivations you could perform with your software license.
If you are going to buy more than one license, you might want to take a look at Adobe Volume Licensing, which gives a price discount plus the ability to run a single copy of the software with a single serial number on all machines and platforms (Windows and/or Mac) that you own, and expand if you need to.

While browsing on safari earlier today I had about 10 tabs open some with YouTube.
I was on a flash website browsing and the system froze and the spinning wheel came Up on the mouse.
I tried to move the mouse to get to the force quit in safari but then the mouse froze too, after a minute I held down the power button and turned off the laptop.
Now I tried to turn it back on, it turns on and loads up as far as the white screen with the grey apple logo and goes no further?
What does this mean, how can I solve it? I'm in panic as all of my school notes are on it, any help or advice would be muh appreciated!Do you have backups of all the data on the startup drive? If not, do nothing else until you've backed up that data, if you still can.

So I just got my 2 Gen iPod for Christmas and it froze today. I was scrolling through songs, and it would not play certain ones. I'd select them, press play, and it would skip 2-3 songs, sometimes more and play whatever was next, but not the song that I selected. Then the whole thing froze. I used the restart with the Menu and Select, but it still did the jumping songs thing. I used iTunes to reset it to factory settings, and it seems to be working fine for now. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen or has any clue what caused it or how to avoid it or whatever. Thanks!
PC Windows XPIt could be happened with a simple reason i.e. corrupted OS files on the iPod, do a Restore with factory settings is not something unusual, so please do not worry with it.

Keyboard Froze; other quirks popping up
I'm having a bunch of trouble with my powerbook, and am unfortunately not able to get back to my external drive to backup for almost a week (which is really killing me right now).
First, the entire system just seems to be... unstable. Safari crashes frequently. Some days it simply will not recognize my bluetooth devices. Sometimes the track pad acts oddly upon waking up (pointer won't respond, or only moves left, for instance). Sometimes the computer will make odd, quiet noises, electronic blips and beeps corresponding to keyboard input (but not the chugging sounds of a dieing harddrive, at least not the sounds I'm too familiar with). Also, the OS search always returns zero items. Even if I'm staring at the file on my desktop. Last night the keyboard froze. Nothing, in any application of finder (yeah, I messed with numlock - it didn't help). A reboot fixed (?@!) the keyboard, but this morning Illustrator started crashing and I can't even open it anymore. The illustrator crashes were associated with prolonged pinwheel freezing, and my HD icon relocating itself to another part of the screen.
First, does anyone know what is going on, and second what can I do?
Things I've done recnetly:
-archive and install the OS (ok, that was a month or so ago, didn't fix the search problem, or safari instability but the rest of the problems I've described are new since then; also, my startup discs are conveniently stored next to my external drive, far away from me)
-trash all my safari caches and cookies
-trash all non-essential new apps I've downloaded
-empty trash
-repair permissions (though I had onyx set do this weekly, it spit back pages and pages and pages of permissions to repair)
Is there anythign else I should be doing? Should I start burning copies of essential files or is it not that serious (can it wait a few days until I can do a full backup on the external drive)?

G4 1.33 Ghz, 768Mb RAM, OS 10.3.9sometimes random freezes caused by failing hard drive, it would be a good idea to back up important files.

I am currently using a USB keyboard (PC Model) and everytime I wake the computer from sleep the keyboard no longer responds unless I unplug and replug it. The USB mouse I am using works fine with no issues and I have already gone through the prompt to identify the keyboard in the settings. If anyone know of a setting I can use to permenantly enable the keyboard so I no longer have to unplug and replug it that would be appreciated.
Thank you.Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was. -
