Keyboard illumination does not work. No light.

Hi every one,
I have a problem. My keyboard's illumination does not work at all. I tried pressing on F8/F9/F10 and nothing. Then something happened and now I have to press FN + F8/F9/F10, or even sometimes when I clicked on those, a thing popped on the screen with a "blocked logo" or "restricted logo" kind of a thing. I tried the Lab Tick and no good. I did PRAM reset and saw no difference. So, basically there is still no light at all.
BTW in System Preferences>Keyboard>limitation is checked.
So basically
1. How do I fix the illumination/light on my keyboard?
2. Why did the F8/9/10 work after I press FN at the same time?

Recently I noticed that the keybord illumination has stopped working on my mac. I looked in System Preferences > Keyboard, and i do not see an option for Automatically adjust keyboard lights.
Any Suggestions?

MacBook Pro 13-inc, keyboard backlight does not work

My keyboard backligth does not work.
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, early 2011 with MAC OS X Lion 10.7.3.
I already set the preferences to be on in autmatic mode with low ligth on but this did not work.
When I turn on the computer the keyboar lights on but as soon as the computer finish the log on the keyboard goes off.
I will appreciatte any advise.

Double Click on Keyboard shortcut does not work

I want to change a keyboard shortcut. I have a Norwegian keyboard and the key combination for change active window in an application (multiple mail messages or Word documents) is not available. The Keyboard shortcut is set to ' - on my keyboard the ' character is <. The key combination < does not work unless I change layouts to a US keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts says that a double click on the shortcut will allow me to change the combination. This does not happen. I get an error bing instead. Any ideas of what is going on and how to change a shortcut in Leopard. I think this worked in Tiger. I have tried a hardwired as well as my bluetooth keyboard.

Solved this one - you have to click on the key combination itself and not in the text area that describes the key combination.

Custom shortcuts addee via Keyboard.prefPane does not work..

I read several sites that all refer to a way to create a shortcut for a menu command without one, ref.: <http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/keyboard.html>
However, that does not work at all for me. Never has. So what I am doing wrong? In particular, I would like to add a shortcut to open the main window of Address Book, after closing the window leaving the app running.
Anyonw could do me a run through? Cause the above mentioned procedure does not work.

PS: Oh, and in iPhoto I am not able to create a new film roll for the selected photos, even though I am following the exact procedure mentioned in Help..

The issue is typically a matter of focus. Particularly in Firefox. In IE, when the page loads and is presented, the Flash object (your Captivate movie) is given focus. So the keyboard shortcuts work. But that doesn't happen in Firefox. In Firefox, you must first click somewhere on the Flash object to give it focus. From there forward, shortcuts work because the Flash object is now listening for them.
In every class I facilitate I demonstrated this and advise that it's a good idea to have a button on the first slide. This serves two purposes.
It forces the user to click to proceed
It keeps the first slide paused until the user is ready
Yeah, before someone comes along and says: (in an annoyingly nasal tone) Mr. Man, you KNOW there is an option in Captivate to keep it paused at the start... I'm well aware that Captivate offers this option without adding a button, but I prefer it for the reasons above.

Show Reading List keyboard shortcut does not work

The Show Reading List keyboard shortcut (shift-command-L) does not work in Lion Safari 5.1.

Problem has been fixed. I reported the bug to Apple from the Safari menu. Also, I had a different application that used the same keyboard shortcut for one of their hotkey's which I disabled. Then it worked fine. Shift-Command-L now shows reading list in Lion.

Keyboard shortcut does not work on first slide in Web Browser

I'm using a workbook to learn Captivate.
I added a keyboard shortcut, the Enter key, to buttons on the first and second slides.
When I preview the project in Captivate, the shortcuts all work.
When I preview the project in a Web Browser (specifically Firefox 3.6.16), the shortcut does not work on the first slide, but does work on subsequent slides.
Any ideas why this would happen?

Keyboard shortcut does not work on ML

Hi everyone!
I've been in love with one smal feature of Lion: to send email with chosen file just out of the Finder by simply pressing cmd+shift+1.
In spite of that this feature is available in ML disability access preferences it does not work at all. I'm not sure if TotalFinder caused this failure, because it worked perfect during times of Lion.
Has anyone of you know some suggestion?

Never heard of that shortcut before. Where exactly do you see it? In Accessibility? Which section?
If I set up a shortcut with that combination, I do not get any warnings that it is in use.
You would have had to set that up yourself or a program was helping you do that.
In Mountain Lion, if you right-click, there is an Email option in Share.
You could also create an Automator Service to do what you want and assign a shortcut to that.
It quite possibly could be TotalFinder interfering with whatever you had set up before.

IPhone 4S keyboard dictation does not work - associated with Siri?

I have not been able to get the built-in iPhone 4S keyboard dictation to work. I talk into it, then tap "Done", then the phone "thinks" for a few seconds (the purple dots pulse and I see the network icon on the top bar spinning) and then nothing happens. The screen I was typing on comes back with nothing added.
Probably not coincidentally, I can't get Siri to work now either - she is "sorry, having trouble connecting to the network."
I've rebooted my phone and even reset the network settings, which doesn't help. I'm surprised the network would be so congested before 9 AM eastern USA time.
So, my question is, does the keyboard dictation tool go through the same network as Siri? Is this why it's not working?
FWIW, I got Dragon Dictation to work fine.
I think it's questionable design to make keyboard dictation work only with a network connection. I can understand this with Siri but not with ordinary keyboard dictation. It's a lot of overhead to go back and forth over the server if you are just dictating text.

My problem is similar with a variation. Siri is working fine. The dictation feature, however, has suddenly stopped working (and I was so excited about it when I started using it - and I haven't used it that much). I don't have text enabled, by the way, so I can't use Frank's suggestion above.
I have a 4-bar 3G connection (I live in Wilmington, NC - the town where my provider has its HQ, so the connection is not the issue). However, when I attempt to use the dictation feature, all I get is a spinning wheel next to the 3G icon and 3 pulsing purple dots, which don't stop until I hit the Home button or some other key. The dictated text never materializes. This makes me quite sad and frustrated. Up until now, I have been unequivocally in love with my IPhone 4S, and I want to be completely in love with it again.
I'd really appreciate a helpful solution.
**An update - Siri can take the dictation that I wanted to use with the microphone icon (she just wrote up a note for me, for example), but I really want to be able to go straight to the application and hit the microphone icon, to use fewer words/keystrokes, etc.

Sound and Keyboard Illumination Keys Not Working!!!

This is very strange...
I just spent a few days in the hospital. Fortunately, one of the amenities provided was free Wi-Fi. As it turned out, many people took turns using my Powerbook while I wasn't using it myself.
Most of the people that were there visiting, are not Mac-savvy, and when I got my Powerbook back, I discovered a strange surprise.
I have no sound. But it goes further than that, because the sound keys have been completely disabled! So have the keyboard illumination keys!
The icon is grayed out, and there is a circle, with a slash through it, beneath.

Try this:
The little 'do not enter' symbol you see means that is turned off...
For sound, the F3 key toggles the sound on and off (but does not adjust the volume). If the sound is on, the F4 key turns the volume down, and the F5 key turns the volume up. But with this, the F3 has to be touched to be on, and that symbol will disappear... then use the F5 key (you have to keep tapping it for it to move the volume. Only tap the F3 key once to turn it on, and once to turn it off.
The keyboard is much the same way. The F8 key turns it on or off, while the F9 lowers the intensity and the F10 raises the intensity. Again, one tap on the F8 for on and another for off... with multiple taps on the F9 and F10 to decrease or increase illumination.
That same screen you saw, should be seen but with hash-marks either grey (off) or white (on)... for both. While the sound has the arching sound waves from the horn if it is on, not when it's off. The keyboard has the curved hash marks around the top.
You do have it, if that screen shows... it's just to keep tapping the F5 and the F10 to increase both so you can see/hear the effects.

Keyboard Brightness does not work Automatically

Hi,
I have a new Macbook Pro Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2014 and since the day I opened it, the auto keyboard brightness doesn't work. I've ticked the option to adjust automatically in low light, I've reset the SMC, go into safe mode and it still won't resolve the problem. I always need to manually adjust the brightness. On the other hand, Screen brightness work normally with no problems at all on adjusting itself.
Can anyone help me to resolve this ?

Have you tried holding down the fn key at the same time?
Does the brightness control slider in the Displays pane of System Preferences work on your monitor? In normal operation, the brightness keys actually move this slider too.

Boot camp 3.2 windows xp keyboard wire does not work key volume and brightness, etc.

I bought today a new apple keyboard with wire.
The old keyboard had a broken button, but the control keys f1-f12 all worked with both os mac or os both windows.
Now I change the keyboard, but I do not work anymore keys f1-f12 under Windows XP, but they work under Snow Leopard.
I updated bootcamp in XP until version 3.2, but the problem remained.
What can I do?

Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.

Keyboard character does not work - cant enter password to log in

I have a new Blackberry curve. Unfortunately the e key is not working (possibly after condensation forming on the device).
Luckily my password does not contain e
Unluckily I entered the password incorrectly. And now I have to "enter BlackbErry to continue"
Unfortunately I cant type the E.
Any way of figuring a way to get round this, either by getting the E to work, or by circumventing the "BlackbErry to continue " check? Thanks

Since I upgraded to iOS 8 my keyboard shortcuts sync between iPhone 5s and iPad Mini Retina do not work... I tried to use another Apple ID. Also tried full restores, but no effect yet. Any ideas?

Update on shortcut issues... the only solution that is reportedly working is detailed below. This has been used to fix both the reappearing shortcuts issue and/or the keyboard shortcuts crash on iOS.
(1) On any affected iOS device go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content And Settings
(WARNING this will obviously delete everything so you must be willing to go this far with no guarantee)
(2) If you also have a Mac(s) proceed to step (3) otherwise skip to step (6)
(3) On Mac, go to System Preferences > Keyboard >Text Tab and delete ALL the shortcuts you have there.
(4) Using Terminal app on your Mac, the following command will place a “Real iCloud Drive" folder on your desktop which will allow you to see ALL the hidden items in iCloud Drive:
ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/ ~/Desktop/Real\ iCloud\ Drive
(5) Open this new iCloud Folder alias (you must choose to view it in a Finder window as list view). Inside this folder is the folder called "Settings" and inside that, "Dictionaries.” Delete the “Dictionaries” folder and empty trash.
(6) Set up your iOS device(s) as NEW. Meaning, you must manually reinstall any apps, settings, etc. Do NOT restore from iTunes or iCloud backup as that will just leave you with the same corrupted issue. Before going through all the time that takes, start with singing into your device with your Apple/iCloud ID and see if the shortcuts issue seem to be fixed and when you enter new ones they sync between devices and/or Mac.
- This solution was suggested to me by a developer and it seems to have worked for my iOS shortcuts crashing & syncing debacle. The issues have not reappeared for the last week and all the shortcuts are properly syncing between an iPhone, iPad and 2 Macs. Please don’t get angry with me if you try this and it doesn’t work for you. I’m just sharing an option.
- I continue to submit feedback to Apple about the issue and have still been having followup calls with AppleCare. They just keep saying “a fix will be in an upcoming iOS software update.” They’ve been saying that to me me since iOS 8.0 and we are now at 8.1.3…
