Keyboard imac pro

Hello everyone ,
So today i've done the Yosemite update on my mac , and i had a little problem with the keyboard . The problem is that my function keys like for brightness and etc weren't working anymore . When i looked at the system preferences i found that these functions were associated to F12 , F15 ..keys . So please help me get back my ancient keyboard functions . i'm currently in mac os x 10.10 (sorry for my bad english )

Hi Thenost,
Based on your description, it sounds like the Function Key setting in the Keyboard System Preference may have been inadvertently enabled during the update process. If that is the case, you may find the steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Newbie asking iMac Pros for Time Machine Backup help

I have tried to do a lot of reading (FAQ & Google Search) about Time Machine. I have to admit it seems more than a bit complicated to me. In fact, perhaps I read and searched too much.
    1) I have a wireless mouse and a wireless key board which work well with my iMac, although my mouse seems to use-up/run-down batteries (I do use rechargeable usually) somewhat fast. I have my DSL modem plugged into the Ethernet slot. I assume that means I can not use an ethernet cable with a Time Capsule drive. Will a wireless Time Capsule drive run as easily as my mouse and keyboard have? I'll be honest, $299 seems a bit steep if my iMac's life is only going to be around 3-4 years. Of course, losing everything on my internal HD wouldn't be a picnic either. I have manually backed up data such as mp3's, photos, and other files onto a Mentor HD, but it is not nearly big enough for Time Machine.
    2) If I were to buy an external drive that I hook-up via USB cable, I need a iMac Pro to give me a good idea as to which ones seem to have had the best "life." I have a 1T internal drive; I assume that I should buy a 1T external drive, although I can't see me actually using that much space. Could I get by with a 500g, I wonder.
    3) Finally, I would really appreciate if you could give me some pointers on what would be the best drive and best way for me to use Time Machine. I can come up with $200-$400 that may be necessary, even if I complain about doing it.
Thanks in advance if someone can help guide me.

    A) Time Capsule is NOT a wireless external HD as such; in other words, I can not just store my Time Machine backup data on it WITHOUT hooking it up to a Network.
well, that would be the most convenient solution.
you can turn the TC's wireless off and, by using an _*ethernet switch*_, could hook up both modem and TC to your iMac's ethernet port. i haven't tried such a setup but i believe it should work.
another option that i haven't tried would be to share your iMac's internet connection wirelessly with the TC by enabling +internet sharing+ in system preferences > sharing.
    B) I can hook my DSL router into Time Capsule, but then I would have to configure Airport in order to connect my iMac to the internet?
yes. the setup is very easy.
    C) ... I do not have a home network.
if your iMac has an airport card, you do
and I have my printer hooked-up to my iMac via USB.
the TC has an USB port for sharing e.g. a printer on your network
I do have a 7-year old working Dell Dimension that is not currently hooked-up to the Internet, unless I remove the Ethernet cable to the iMac and plug it into the Dell.
again, using an ethernet switch, it can be hooked to your iMac along with the modem. or, it could be connected to one of the TC's ethernet ports.
in fact, i have both my Macs and my Apple TV hardwired to my TC. additionally, by using *powerline adapters* _*such as these*_, i have an older airport extreme and two PC's connected to it via ethernet as well.
I'm just not grasping the overall concept too well. I read the section about Time Machine in my "Mac OS X 'In Depth'" Manual. I also have been trying to search the forums and use iMac Basics on the Apple Home Site.
see _*Time Machine 101*_ for more information.

  • I bought my iMac Pro on ebay and would like to change the owner name to my own.

I bought my iMac Pro on ebay so did not get the chance to go through the Set up from the very beginning. I've noticed 2 consequences;  one is that the name of the user is not my own. The second is that when I go to facebook her name and password are in the log in boxes.
How can I change it to my own name?
I am not sure what operating system I have or where it says this.

By far the best thing to do is to do rannable's last suggestion and get rid of the previous user's account. Something they should have done instead of leaving personal information and passwords where you can easily get at them.
Open the System Preferences and click on the Accounts icon. Click the lock at the lower left. You will need to know admin password of the previous owner. Click the + button to create a new Administrator account. Fill in whatever name you want the account to have and choose a password. Click Create Account.
Log out and log back in to your new account. Go into the System Preferences again and the Accounts section. Click the lock button again, only this time, you would use the password for the new account you just created since that's what you logged into OS X with.
Highlight the old account and click the - button to delete it. Click the last radio button, "Delete the home folder" to completely remove the old account from the hard drive. Your new admin account will be the only one left.
Your new account will make the Mac look and behave like it just came out of the box since all of the desktop preferences will be the defaults. Customize to your liking.

  • So I bought my iMac pro 2010/11, and its playing up

So I bought my iMac pro 2010/11, and its playing up, in terms of it, whilst with an app for program running, its started to go to do its own thing.....
It's going from normal to rapid switching of things, closing app's, wanting to shut down the computer etc etc....
I have an antivirus on there, but its not showing any results... Maybe because it wants me to update it and buy it its messing the system about? I have no clue?
I don't even know if its the Bluetooth on the mouse or keypad, was they also start to pay up
    Can anyone help?

Ok sorry, I have every divice there is, so I get confused to each one and their names,
My IMac is playing up, (the27inch one), so the anti virus I'm using is norton app.
I don't often use my desktop's as have the iPad and MacBook Pro to hand.
So what I have done, was updated the system software, and the installed Mavericks.
So far so good, just using Norton to do a scan. So then I ll see after that.
If the problem happens again, I'll do what was suggested (thank you) and re-install Norton again???
    Let u guys know.
    Thanks

  • Installing and Unistalling Windows XP Pro on iMac pro

I understadn from research that I can install Windows XP on my iMac Pro ( don't have it yet...) by using boot camp, this seems fairly straight forward. My question is can I uninstall it.
My reasoning is that currently I am running some PLC programming software that is only XP supported, however there are inklings that these will be iMac compatable. I want to run the Xp version under boot camp, then upgrade to Mac OS when they are available.
Is it possible to uninstall XP once installed?

Go to this url and read all about Bootcamp from the best source.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
You should especially read this guide before attempting any BootCamp installation or you might screw it up badly.

Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.
    Good luck,

  • Hook IMac pro to second monitor, Dell U2410.  Need help on setting from the laptop.

What setting are needed to set up external monitor Dell U2410 monitor.  I am make progress but still need to need the setting internal to the Imac Pro.
I am transmitting to the monitor.  The screen saver is there.  Hit F3 key causes anknowledgement. but open web pages they do not transfer.
I have used the system preferance which acknowledges the presence of the monitor.
Need suggestion if you have them.
    Thanks,

The external hard drive should mount on your old iMac through USB. USB2 is backwards-compatible, only consequence is that you'll have to be patient with the long wait for your files to copy over the slower USB1 or 1.1.
Another alternative is to directly connect the two Macs via the ethernet cable. Instructions are here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh914.html
Note that you most likely need a crossover ethernet cable (versus a standard straight-though cable), based on this article:

  • Can I display the ipod- touch's screen on the IMac Pro

I am a teacher and I was wondering if I can take something I find in an app. and display it on my laptop so I can project it on a screen. Or is there a way I can use the the apps that have in I-tunes on my IMac Pro laptop?

Sorry, but it's not possible by any app or method I've seen that would be available to we end users. Apple uses specially-modified units to display their screens during product presentations such as at announcements and keynote speeches. The only items an iPod can output to an external source are videos and movies.

  • Airdrop: My iMac Pro can send but not receive

My iPhone 5S is discovered by Airdrop on my iMac Pro and will receive files from it, but Airdrop does not work in the other direction. My iPhone cannot discover the iMac Pro even as the iMac Pro sees the iPhone and while the two devices are on the desk next to each other. So, once again - does anyone have an answer to, now, this problem?

    You'll need OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

  • Aluminum wired keyboard & iMac G5 (non-Intel based)

I was wondering if it was possible for me to use an Apple's new aluminum keyboard with an older iMac, in this case a G5 which is about four years old running on Leopard!!

The answer seems to be "for the most part"!
I have a 3rd gen G5 (iSight and 2.1GHz G5) and the keyboard works fine when the machine is up, but it appears to have difficulty waking it from sleep. No key presses are detected. The Caps Lock LED won't light either. Still reading the Support pages for a fix.
I just could never adopt my hunt and pecking typing skills to the full key Apple keyboard. I would always end up missing some chracters (sorry!).

  • I just spilled Apple juice on my white keyboard (iMac)

I just spilled Apple juice on my white keyboard that came with my Imac. I have removed all the water and excess water both on top and under some of the keys, however some of the buttons dont work like the 'a' button and the command button. My question is does the AppleCare Protection plan cover the damage or at least replace me with a new keyboard, or am i just in for a bad luck

Here's the full monty. No idea if this will be successful, but it's what I'd try if it happened to me.
You have nothing to lose. Get a gallon of distilled water. Pour enough into a clean shallow pan and soak and agitate the keyboard. Make sure the keyboard is covered in water. Do this until you have no more water left. Allow the water to drain after each soaking. Once it is drained, swish it in a bath of 70% isopropyl alcohol for 15 minutes, let it drain, then replace with new alcohol and swish for several more minutes. This will help displace the water and may help remove any traces of the wine. Then let it dry out for a number of days. Do not try to use it until you are reasonably certain it is completely dry. Letting it sit in a container of rice, which will act as a dessicant, may also help the drying.

Maybe your Numpad is set to mouse keys? There is a function to use the Numpad as mouse replacement. You can turn this off and on in System perferences -> Universal Access -> Mouse & Trackpad.
