Keyboard in Spanis
Hi
I’m from Mexico. I have recently bought an Apple iMac with Mac OS X Leopard.
I configured the keyboard with the Spanish layout. The problem is that special characters like @, parentheses, ampersand, etc do not match with the keys in the keyboard.
For example, the keyboard has the @ with the “2” key but, in order to type an “@” I have to press “alt” and “G” key.
Could anyone help me to configure my keyboard properly?
Go to system prefs/international/input menu, uncheck the box for Spanish and check the box for Spanish ISO. See if that helps.

Trackpad and Keyboard intermittent Freezing
My trackpad and keyboard are freezing at random intervals for random spans of time (usually for a few seconds). I havent downloaded any recent software that has cause this to my knowledge. Any help would be wonderful because even typing this is frustrating.
I just took delivery of a new MacBook a couple of days ago. When I started it up I let it restore all of my user files, applications, and everything from a Time Machine backup. That worked fine, but now Time Machine wants to perform the initial, lengthy backup on a new machine. I find that when that is running, the trackpad and keyboard both freeze and I can't do anything. Strangely, if I plug a Logitech travel mouse into one of the USB ports, that is able to drive the mouse cursor. The keyboard is still frozen until I turn the backup off though.
I'm going to plug the MacBook directly into the Time Capsule to get the backup to go faster, but I still wonder: is there a way to reduce the priority of the Time Machine process so I can use the MacBook while the backup is running? -
Keyboard not working after suspend to ram
Hi,
I have this problem since I have my notebook. Is a sony vaio cs.
After suspend to ram the keyboard does't work.
I've read in other forums that is a general gnu/linux problem, not only arch, and I think is related with the i8042 driver and generally hp pavillions have it.

Please ask me for more info if needed.I had this issue for almost a year with my Sony CS190. After a clean install, it still exists. So,
After suspending the keyboard doesn't work, and unbinding/binding i8042 only helps touchpad, not keyboard.
EDIT: PS: Keyboard & Touchpad work fine after hibernate.

Keyboard Shortcut Unresponsiveness
Greetings potential allies in my fight against minor inconveniences!
I recently acquired a MacBook Pro after having endured years of Windows use, and am enamored with it. I am especially fond of the Exposé and the View Desktop keyboard shortcuts. Unfortunately, due to the default hardware mapping of all of the F# keys, Exposé must normally be accessed through Fn+F9. This is especially troublesome for my hands to reach, and limits my ability to instantaneously impress users of other operating systems. Thus I desired to change my shortcuts, and as I have no reason for a Dashboard keyboard shortcut, I hoped I could swap the defaults for the two functions (Dashboard to F9 and Exposé to F12, which lacks any hardware association). I did just this in system preferences, and all works fine. However, when I shut down my computer and reboot, the shortcut for "All Windows" magically reverts back to F9--a most grievous problem. No matter which key I map "All Windows" to, it always defaults back upon reboot or log out to F9. This is untrue of all other shortcuts, as I can change any other default successfully--so I am baffled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is one of very few problems which mar an otherwise flawless system.

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)One thing you might consider trying is to invert the function of the fn key. This is controlled by the "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features" checkbox, which when ticked means that you no longer need press the fn key at the same time as the F9-F12 keys. Of course, to alter brightness, volume etc. you must then press the fn key, but this is usually less of a problem as the relevant keys are well to the left making them easy to span with a single hand.
As for retaining the change, I have not encountered this problem, but you could try deleting the User—>Library—>Preferences—>com.apple.systempreferences.plist file and subsequently resetting your preferences.
In any case, shutting down and restarting a computer is a Windows habit—there's little or no point in doing this on a Mac. When in "sleep" mode, the machine uses almost no power at all. I regularly have machines running continuously for 10 weeks or more!

Keyboard space bar not working
Hi,
totally novice and new to mac here,my keyboard space bar working fine.. but with in an time span of 3 hrs something went wrong and now whenever i press it it gives thet error sound.But it works normal when i keep the shift key pressed.
so far which i can recollect the settings i have working before this event is:
1)enabled fast user switching.
2) changed the computer name
3) installed transmission and was dowloading 2 files
4) installled sun download manager and downloading solaris
5) enabled "announce the time" in clock preferences
my keyboard firmware update is uptodate
EFI firmware is 1.1 and up to date

How can I cancel span class="text" ?
I've been working on a web page, and I've spent much of my
time deleting
<span class="text">, along with the closing
</span> tag. Dreamweaver is
inserting them automatically. Is there some way to turn this
feature off?

That's how I used to insert apostrophes. I just visually
selected the
character that looks like an apostrophe - ’ - and
used it in all

I was going to ask another question: How does one create
stylized, or
literary apostrophes that gracefully curve as you increase
the size of
your text? I could have sworn ’ did take on a
curved appearance as
it increases in size.
However, I just pasted it alongside one of those simple
slanted
apostrophes with no numerical code, then increased the text
size in my
browser and see no difference. Neither one looks especially
cool.
Honestly, all this special character stuff ranks with SQL
injection as
one of web design's biggest mysteries. ;) -
Buying an E72 with Scandinavian keyboard outside o...
For some reason it seems to be impossible to buy an E72 with Scand. keyboard from outside of Finland.
I am living in Italy and my employer wants to buy me a phone. Fine. I tell them to buy E72 with the above simple specs. But, no one provides such a phone in Italy. Even the Nokia flagship stores deny of any ability to deliver such a specific type of phone in Italy. Same with Nokia stores either in Finland or in Italy. Both sell only within their land-borders and cannot help me with this great adventure of trying to make business with Nokia.
I even requested help from the Nokia on-line store in Finland and the email response was that "sorry, we cannot help you here."
Am I only one facing this problem, and has someone perhaps found a store in Italy who can deliver or a store in Scandinavia who can ship such a product to me.
After tens of calls to all kinds of suppliers (including Nokia itself), I am slightly feeling tired of this bouncing around.There is a very high demand for a Dual SimCard GSM phone. Many like me have to carry two mobile phones because of:
1. Mobile operation connectivity in different areas
2. Frequent travel domestic and international
3. Different business and personal numbers
4. Price of calling different mobile networks
5. Old phone number which needs to be gradually phased out
6. Support engineers having to carry bersonal and support mobile after office hours... etc
These are all compelling arguments for having products with dual sim capability and this perhaps why Smasung has launched 5 different dual sim models in a short time span.
I dislike samsung because of its usability and try to only stick with IPhone or Nokia when it comes to mobile phones.
India is a huge consumer base for mobile phones and a dual sim phone in my opinion can go a long way to increase the market share of apple.
Web search engines show a large number of search hits for dual sim phone and dual sim ghost cards. For travelers like me it has become a higher priority to choose a mobile phone with dual sim capability over camera and other features. -
Command-S keyboard shortcut is not working

On our (pre-iSight) 17" iMacG5 running 10.4.6 my son (logged in to his own account) can't use the keyboard shortcut Command-S to save documents (confirmed not to work in Pages and TextEdit - both made by Apple). Using the mouse he can select and use the Save command from the Edit meny.
In all other accounts everything is normal.
There was a topic called: "Keyboard Shortcut not working" that spanned from Nov 15 to Dec 30, 2005 but the topic was then for some reason archived.
In this topic the last post stated:

Well I kinda have the same problem. It´s just another combo, that´s not working. It is "command+s" for saving files in various apps and it doesnt work in a single app. "Shiftcmds" for "save as" works just fine.
I did a lot of restarts, checked the keyboard shortcut prefs, repaired permissions but the problem still remains. Anybody an idea what to do? Ersaing any .plist files or something?
Oh, and it still works when I switch to another user!"
That user had a MacMini (no details).
In December 2005 there was no 10.4.6 and the other user had a MacMini, so this has to be a problem NOT with a specific Mac-model or a specific version of the OS.
Maybe with Apple-software?
Anyone got a clue!?!?

Macbook Pro freezes after attempting sleep mode -trackpad and keyboard stop
I bought this computer on April 2008. It has the latest OS X 10.5.6 and it did not accept the trackpad firmware. I tried to install and the software said "this computer does not need this update".
This has been happening a lot when I am using Skype while talking to someone with video and sound. The computer tries to go on sleep mode because I am not typing or touching it - it thinks I am away because I am just talking and watching the person on the other side.
I have to keep touching the computer to avoid getting on sleep mode. If it attempts to sleep, it freezes and stops the trackpad and keyboard. I continue to listen and see the other person on Skype with no problems, and they continue to see me and hear me, but I cannot move the "mouse"/trackpad cursor on the screen or type anything. Neither can I force to quit anything. The only thing that works is to close the computer and open again, that forces the computer to go into sleep mode then I can make it wake up again by opening it and touching any key on the keyboard. But that interrupts the Skype call and the video and the internet connection. It is a very frustrating interruption.
This have been interrupting Skype calls and my website usability study I am conducting. I have to keep touching the computer trackpad to not let it go on sleep mode ever, but I forget sometimes when I focused on the study.
I am concerned is something with the battery or maybe it needs some kind of firmware. I am also concerned that if I never let it sleep it will shorten the battery's life span.
This is very recent, just started happening this week (beginning of March 2009). I have not added any new software or any hardware to the machine.
What can I do to make the trackpad and keyboard stop freezing when the computer tries to sleep?"...No, I haven't. I am assuming it will take too long, they might not have the answer, and I don't have the time for a long phone call now.

1. The phone call will at the very least get you a case number and they can advise you if this is a current issue.
2. Making an appointment with the genius will at the very least cut down your wait time. -
Macbook Pro early 2011 keyboard back light discoloured
Ive just gotten a Macbook Pro 2011 from a friend as a gift, i believe its the early 2011 model which he won at work for a prize. Everything is perfect on it, however on the keyboard backlight, on the space bar at the bottom nearest to the track pad, about 2 thirds of the way towards the right, there seems to be a brown sort of tint in the backlight which spans about half a centimetre. This may be abit OCD, ive had the space bar off to have a look and it seems to be under the surface layer if that makes sense.
also, apologies for the terrible picture, it was really hard to manage it without the glare of the light affecting the picture.

Question for MBP owners that span their desktop
I recently ran into the following bug with the latest beta of Parallels (http://www.parallels.com):
With the PW console window in my main iMac display, the mouse and keyboard work as expected (need to hit Cntl-Option to release keyboard and mouse from the console window). When I drag the window to my second monitor (I span displays with my iMac), any mouse click within the console window will release the keyboard and mouse (rendering the mouse useless within the Guest OS).
I'm wondering if a MBP user can duplicate the same issue I am experiencing on my iMac.That's tempting, but without full-screen and without video acceleration, I'm leary of putting time into it. I perused the forums briefly and it seemed (subject to my vague recollection) that there were a lot of shortcomings that the developers plan to address before the final release.
Maybe if I get bored enough… Like that's going to happen…

Increasingly FCP runs to 104 degrees C when operating. This can damage MAC BOOK PRO RETINA components, shortening their life-span.
Can you suggest what I should do apart from shutting down word documents and other software, Parallels, Windows 7 when using FCP?
I am gravely concerned with this high heat. I have to use a remote keyboard it is so hot, but gravely concerned with with the damage the heat is doing to to MAC BOOK PRO RETINA.
ironic - given I switched to Mac from PC this year JUST for FCP editing.
BTW - I am a film lecturer advising thousands of K-12 teachers and a have a report to deliver to the Education Department shortly.

My suggestion would be to optimize all of your media to ProRes .
Even though PR is a much larger file it's much easier on the CPU. Playing back compressed media is like rendering all day.
I routinely use an old 2007 MBP with a core 2 duo and FCP7. I can cut and color correct with no problem at all using ProRes LT files. The only time it gets hot is during long renders.
I have the laptop elevated on a pedestal that allows air to pass underneath . During long renders I point a small fan at it which often cools it enough to shut the internal fans down.
All that said, I know the retina is a more compact design and components are much closer to each other.
So, I'd be interested to hear from another retina owner.

In older version of iMovie, you used to be able to play from the event viewer, and hit shift-left and shift-right to select in and out points. This seems to have gone away in '11. What's the new way to do this via keyboard shortcuts?

DROID 3 Sliding out keyboard resets phone
I have had quite some problems with the Droid 3. After receiving FIVE refurbished phones(give or take, one or two, honestly I've lost count), the last three(received over a span of two weeks) have had the issue where sliding the keyboard open with a moderate amount of force resets the phone. The third refurbished phone I received as a replacement degraded to the point of ANY slight movement with the phone would cause it to reset itself. After working with customer service, the most viable option was to receive a "similar" phone, the LG Enlighten for $39.99(cost of the battery mainly, along with the phone). Not very similar, needless to say, in terms of specs. I won't even bother to detail the issues with the other refurbished DROID 3 phones.
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution, other than you may need to slow down. But, one feature of the keyboard is probably to add the period and start a new sentence automatically when double-tapping the space bar. If you hit it repeatedly, it may be registering two of those, adding in the (assumed) appropriate punctuation.

Why bolding or italicizing in Design View, it strips wanted empty span tags?
I do not know if this is a bug, a setting, or whatever, but when I edit in Design View my empty span tags with class are striped. I actually want that span tag to stay, because the span will eventually displays an icon via CSS.
For example, I have the following code in the code view:
<p><span class="icon-dropbox"></span> Titles Goes Here</p>
When I bold or italicized a word using the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+b or command+b) inside the <p> tag while in the Design View, it strips out the <span class="icon-dropbox"></span>.
Is there a way to prevent it from stripping empty span tag with class when in design view? I personally hate editing in design view, but I got some people who do (because looking at code give them headache). BTW, I am using Dreamweaver CC 13, and this issue is on both Mac and Windows platform.That looks like a bug to me. It does it in DWCC 2014 as well. I've never seen it come up before here, but you have some fairly specific things going on there.

As a work around, you could add your bold and italic as classes themselves and use those rather than the old <strong> and <em> tags. Also, putting any content (a non breaking space works well) between those <span></span> tags also appears to stop the insanity.
