Keyboard - input layout - Word

I have read in the forum that some people have experienced problems using the input layout (in order to change fonts or keyboards) while working with MS Word. It seems that the problem comes with Word itself, because the input layout works with Page or TextEdit, for instance. I have heard that it also works with Word 2004. Do some of you know if the problem is solved with Word 2008 or with OS 10.5? Thanks for your help.

Did Word `08 for macs hit the shelves yet, I know it's coming? I love writing in Pages, my only problem is I am a student and must export all my theses to PDF's for submission. They don't export correctly from Pages`08 to Word `04, they lose format. Anyway, do you know for sure Word `08 is released? I will not write with it, only export documents from Pages to Word. I had much difficulty with Word `04, I deleted it. I just bought iWork `08 and it is the best overall document writer I have ever used. I tried it in my new iMac, but I am waiting for 10.5 to be out there for a while before I switch. I cannot get away from my Tiger yet. Did I answer your question, or just ask more? Let me know.

  • Keyboard input has stopped working in MS Word - Yosemite

I made the mistake of upgrading to Yosemite in December.
The latest issue is in MS Word (2011, version 14.3.6)
When trying to switch between two Word documents, the keyboard input stopped working. I am using the built-in Mac keyboard. The trackpad still works, and keyboard input works in some programs (Safari), but it's impossible to type anything into Word. I've tried "Esc" in case some menu was selected, but to no avail.
I've also had this problem in EndNote.
Curious if anyone has a solution - and if you have tips for how to get Word to run faster in Yosemite, please post!
    Thanks ~

There have been a couple reports of keyboard failures, mostly initial key presses. Mine initialy caused USB bus timeouts and startup problems and then failed completely. Call Apple or take the machine/keyboard back to a Apple store for a replacement.

  • Firefox and Thunderbird are suddenly not accepting keyboard input

Keyboard shortcuts still work just input in any kind of input field fails so I can still use ctrl+C / CTRL+V to somewhat use firefox and Thunderbird But all input fields are completely unresponsive to keyboard input
The problem suddenly arose while I was browsing.
I have the same issue on all program's based on the Gecko engine and I confirmed them so far in Firefox, waterfox, instantbird, thunderbird and fossamail. However chromium / windows / basically everythign n
To fix it I tried the following:
    Restarting firefox
    Restarting firefox in savemode
    Rebooting
Changing the keyboard layout in windows
    Using a different keyboard
    Again rebooting
Pressing F7 to check for caret mode which was disabled
pressing winkey + F9 (Whatever that does)
    I am running windows 8.1(x64)

Solved, Changing the keyboard layout again and rebooting fixed it. I tried using the on screen keyboard which worked so I changed the keyboard layout again and rebooted and now it works just fine. I still wonder what caused a Gecko wide issue like this?

  • CS3 Language Keyboard Input Error

    Greetings All,
I have been trouble-shooting this problem for a while, but still it is not resolved. Any help or ideas would be gladly received!
Background: We have a correctly functioning installation of Win XP, and PS CS3 Extended which appears to work normally in every other regard. No obvious errors; no crashes, no start-up complaints; nothing seemingly out of order. I use several installed languages in Windows (EngUK, Russian, Swedish, etc). All of these work normally. All of my installed fonts work correctly in every application on the system except for CS3.
There would appear to be something wrong with CS3's keyboard mapping in foreign languages. When typing with a non-English keyboard setting (any other language) and using TrueType fonts (not Open), only 'missing character' boxes appear in the artwork. The Layers menu displays the typed text correctly, but this will not appear in the artwork. If I use an old install of PS7, I can type using these same fonts correctly in any language. These layers can be imported into CS3, and these WILL display correctly on the artwork. However, the Layers menu in this case displays nonsensical characters. Ergo, I suspect that CS3's keyboard input data is errant.
Where does PS3 keep its information regarding language / keyboard layout? It is possible to edit this file(s)? Are there any other ideas regarding this problem and what might be wrong?
    Thanks

  • Keyboard Input OS X 10.9

A student changed the MacBook keyboard input to a foreign country keyboard.  It is changed at the log in screen too.  I can't figure out how to change it back.  I can use an external keyboard and log on and type and I have no problems. I just can't use the keyboard on the laptop.  This MacBook is using OS X 10.9.

    Hey Sweet 1971,
Well let’s see if we can get the keyboard back to what you need. If you can log in to the account, go to System Preferences > Keyboard and go to the Input Sources tab and remove any keyboard that you do not want and you should be good to go. I have also provided an article on how to change the keyboard layout at the log in window and it talks about OS X Lion but will be the same for OS X Yosemite.

  • [Solved] Programs hang on keyboard input (uim-xim)

Update: I've narrowed the issue down (via trial and error) to uim-xim.  If it's running, it causes this problem (in XMonad) and if it isn't, gnucash has no issues.  Oddly enough, when I start uim-xim by hand after gnucash, it works fine too.  Starting uim-xim by hand before gnucash results in the same issue, and so I'm inclined to believe it's either an issue with XIM implementation, or simply uim-xim.  Might also be a mixture of XMonad and uim-xim, as it works fine in Openbox.
I've noticed lately that certain GTK programs (I'd list them, but I haven't paid close attention until today, where I was using gnucash) work fine until I try to input anything via the keyboard.  The moment I start typing (or, at the latest when I hit the shift key or backspace key) the program will hang (without any error message).  I originally assumed that this was an issue with the program - not my window manager.  However, I tried one of the problem programs (gnucash) in Openbox today, and it works just fine.  That leads me to assume it's caused by my configuration in some way.  I have absolutely no idea where to start debugging this issue.
    A bit of information:
I use UIM (in both openbox and XMonad with identical configurations), run a script for a Japanese date format in XMonad (piped to dzen), and load the same xmodmap file in both window managers.  Also, I start all my window managers using CDM (Console Display Manager), but in the case of XMonad I supply a bash script instead of the binary, in order to preload certain files.  Also, I use a german keyboard layout.

  • Multiple Keyboard inputs...

I've finished up a version of Pong for extra credit for a Java class i am taking, and i ran into an interesting situation.
I cannot figure out how to have a two player version of pong have both players control their paddles with the keyboard. The specific problem i run into is, when i enter one paddle to move, and the other attempts to move it stops the first paddle from moving, also there is the whole issue of the key delay that occurs when a key is held down. If anybody can help me out, i would be incredibly greatful.
It seems like it could possibly being done, for example, in games ive played before a character has been able in mid run(holding arrow key) press another key(such as shift) and jump into the air, while still running, to perform a run-jump.
I have tryed setting up a keyboard input test so if both keys are pressed both paddles move. This works for one movement, but have you ever tryed hitting two keys at once in word? they both will display once, their will be that short delay, then one of the two keys will continously repeat.
Any advice? I have it working with one Keyboard input, and the other Mouse input, but the mouse clearly has a big advantage over the keyboard player...
    Thanks,
    Sean Green

and the repeated key thing still happens as well as the delay....I guess you'll get this as long as you use keyTyped() for player1. Is
there some reason why you're doing this?
    What I was thinking of was along these lines:boolean up1, up2, down1, down2;
    keyPressedHandler()
        if key is w up1=true
        if key is s down1=true
        if key is up, up2=true
        etc
    keyReleasedHandler()
        if key is w up1=false
        etc
    drawingCodeOrWhereever()
if(up1 && !down1) player 1 is on the way up
(else) if(down1 && !up1) player 1 is on the way down
if(up2 && !down2) player 2 is on the way up
(else) if(down2 && !up2) player 2 is on the way downYou may want to handle the case of up and down both pressed
    differently.
If getting rid of keyTyped() doesn't help, post some code. An example
simple enough to just show the problem woule be good. Say how
you would make a dot move left-right and up-down indepently.

  • PPC apps (on intel): slow startup, no keyboard input, Excel-Office crashes

    Hello,
It seems, that all apps that are using rosetta don't work properly.
    - The startup time is extremely long, some minutes, spinning wheel is visible
    - input via keyboard isn't possible
    - Office v. X (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) apps are crashing at startup
A test with the Calculator.app switched to open with rosetta showed also this symptoms (no keyboard input possible)
Curiously all this happens *only with my account*. So first I thought it is a problem of the preferences or fonts. But deletion or substitution from backup does not succeed. Also I did the tip sudo "update_prebinding -root / -force" but it didn't help.
I mad up a fresh account and compared all the files in the ~user/Library path, if there is a file missing in the brocken account. But didn't found some.
Is there anywhere a file outside the ~user/library path, which has user dependend informations (for rosetta)?
Many thanks in advance for any idea

    Yeah, I've got it!

I didn't look for the single fault in any of this files, but maybe someone has an idea, which file is related to rosetta and likes to post it.
Best regards and thanks to everybody who thoughts about a solution for my problem

  • Firefox not responding to keyboard input

I'm having issues with Firefox temporarily no longer responding to keyboard input.
I have two machines, both running Windows 7. On my laptop, I never have any issues but on my desktop, I find that Firefox sometimes blocks keyboard input. It will allow me to enter one character in any text field, and no more. Any further input is ignored. This applies to the address bar, the search box and any text fields in the displayed web page, in any tab. All keyboard navigation seems to also be ignored.
I've tried Reset Firefox and Safe Mode, they don't appear to change anything. I've also tried uninstalling Synergy and changing from my regular English-International keyboard layout to US English, but this still seems to occur. I am also running Workrave which can interrupt keyboard input, but since I can add 1 character, I suspect that Workrave is not the problem.
Sometimes it can seemingly be unblocked by pressing Start+F9, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, restarting firefox or opening a new tab, but this seems to only be a temporary solution, the problem soon reoccurs. This bug has been present for some time, I first noticed it in v28 (although it may be even older), I am currently using v31.
One thing I've noticed is that it never occurs until after my screen has been locked at least once.
The trouble-shooting information attached will not be entirely accurate because I'm using my laptop to type this - Firefox is not accepting keyboard input right now on my desktop! However, the two environments are similar.
    Thanks, Tadhg

Some have reported that pressing F9 and the Windows key simultaneously one or more times has worked to fix issues with the keyboard not working.

  • Input layout for Guest Account

    Please gave me some help.
I need change the default input layout for the guest account.
In Italy we have two keyboard:
    Italian and Italian Pro
Now guest begin with Italian Keyboard layout but now we have Italian Pro Keyboard.
Yes I no that the guest can change in Preference but after log out the next logIn is more the wrong Italian.
Very boring. I will change the setting one time forever.
We dont have more keyboard with Italian layout (too old).
Thanks for your help and sorry for my very bad english.

Thanks for the advice but these were the roads that I had tried before looking in the forum.
    I have try again.
    sudo "/System/Library/CoreServices/Language Chooser.app/Contents/MacOS/Language Chooser"
    sudo "/System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/MacOS/Setup Assistant"
Workgroup Manager from Server Admin Tools
Unfortunately all of these approaches dont work.
they can not change the keyboard layout.
    I found also this
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=13288615&stqc=true
    that is almost the same
    but unfortunately no answer.
Surely it is written in a file system preference ... but where?
P.S. Tom you live in Flagstaff, very nice. I was there this summer with my family - wife and son - and was the third time in my life.
I like very much Arizona, and new mexico, and Colarado, Utha…
maybe I love all the west with a rent car on the road ... maybe all the USA.

  • How to input chinese words with emulator?

Netbeans6.8 is on stage now. But there is no downable plugin for WTK2.5.2. It means JavaME SDK 3.0 is offically mature. But I find there is no way to input chinese word with emulator.
    Any advice is welcome.

Don't try to jailbreak it 3d party software is not always 100% qualified stuff. E.g., yesterday I've put Russian localization pack on my iPod and got a lot of "surprises": crashing keyboards & iPod apps, crappy not smoothed fonts etc.
There is also no Russian || Ukrainian keyboard on iPod. That's Ok, but adding / changing contact details in the Address Book or editing iCal event is a really weird thing. Why should I use translitaration or write everything non-native language?! That's stupid that localization doesn't include language inputs.

  • Games don't recieve keyboard input

I have tried a few games so far, minecraft (Java + LWJGL) terasology (Java + LWJGL) and assault cube (SDL and C++?) and every time, the applications refuse to accept most keyboard input. The only keys that work are the arrow keys and the numpad keys.
It is odd because in assault cube, when I try to set a keybinding, it says something like "key binding failed". So it detects the input but chooses to reject it?
    I have xf86-input-evdev installed.
Input works perfectly on every other application.

    Hi,
so, I use a swedish keyboard layout, I have this in my ~/.xinitrc
    setxkbmap se -option caps:none &
In minecraft, some "special keys" does not register. As far as LWJGL is concerned, they are NONE, or KEY_0. If I change to us layout with
    setxkbmap us
I can bind those special keys just fine, like GRAVE for example. With SE (or DK, or NO...) they register as KEY_0. How can I solve this?

  • Automatic keyboard input

I have a pre-packaged program (an installer) that when it is run, it comes to points where it needs keyboard input from the user.
    "Choose one of the choices:
    1 - do this
    2 - do that
    3 - do something else"
    waits for input
    User: "1"
    continues on
Is there a way of emulating that user input so that a java program that runs the installer could input the keyboard information to the installer without any user input. In other words, I want a java program to run the installer from start to finish without any user intervention.
I don't have access to the installer so there isn't the option of changing the installer (and even if I did, I wouldn't have it as an option).

  • Keyboard input lost on desktop actions

If I change the name of a file on the desktop, I find that often this can result in complete loss of keyboard input as far as file names are concerned – i.e., it becomes impossible to change file names, name new files or make any keyboard input whatsoever. This can happen almost at once, or after an indeterminate number of file names have been changed; there seems to be no pattern or logic to the phenomenon. Suggestions?

I am having a hard time finding any common thread to this event. The last time it occurred, last night, I was running the following applications:
    Firefox v 2.0.0.1
    Entourage v 11
    Word 2004 v 11
    Photoshop CS v 8
    Preview v 3.0.7
    QuickTime v 7.1.3
    Silverfast launcher v 2.1.2
    Microtek Scanner Finder v 3.24
    Otherwise:
Startup item: Microtek Scanner Finder v 3.24
APE extensions: Don't think any; I don't recognise the term.
Attachments: Printer (Epson Pro 3800), Scanner (Microtek i800), external hard drive, USB modem. However, I had these attachments even before the problem cropped up.
Finally, I have also run repairs and permissions corrections from Disk Utility without discovering any problems.
    Many thanks for your help!
